I am of the opinion that both plastic and steel affect the taste of my coffee. I know stainless steel is supposed to be neutral but I swear it affects the taste, and plastic definitely does. The "I am not a paper cup" is what i have, it's currently unavailable as far as i know, but there are plenty of knock offs available. Just find one made of ceramic with a silicone lid.
Or a thermos made for hot stuff!
THERMOS FOOGO Vacuum Insulated Stainless Steel 10-Ounce Food Jar, Charcoal/Teal https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LIRIZVU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_zoQFxbNM9AMDY
So grandad thermos would have been glass lined - you don't want that. you want a double wall stainless steel - which is way more advanced than the old thermos of yore.
Zojirushi is what you want to buy.
Though, new Thermos brand products are quite good - I really like this one - this one for example, I've had ice water in for 8+ hours...still ice floating in it...:
http://www.amazon.com/Thermos-Insulated-Stainless-Hydration-Charcoal/dp/B003U583YW/ref=sr_1_30?ie=UTF8&qid=1449421732&sr=8-30&keywords=thermos
and this one, though it's bulkier - this one is 24 hours...and they really mean that...:
http://www.amazon.com/Thermos-Stainless-Beverage-Bottle-Midnight/dp/B0017IHRNM/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1449421838&sr=8-4&keywords=thermos+coffee
Get a food thermo ($13 on amazon), heat food at home and eat it hot/warm at lunch.
I love my Zojirushi. I have one without the infuser, but it keeps liquids hot all day and is easy to wash.
My brother-in-law uses this when riding to the office- http://www.amazon.com/Zojirushi-SM-JTE46AD-Stainless-16-Ounce-0-46-Liter/dp/B00C4OE79K/ref=sr_1_13?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1418589438&sr=1-13&keywords=zojirushi
Just fill it, cap it, and throw it in a backpack and you're all set.
As a non-rider (but wannabe), I also have one and can throw it in my field pack while hiking and it keeps coffee leak-free and warm for 10+ hours. I even use mine just around the office.
Also want to point out that it just 'feels' solid. I haven't used a traditional thermos in a while, but I seem to remember them being somewhat fragile as you didn't want to shatter the glass vacuum vessel. Thermoses might be engineered differently now, though.
I'm not quite sure how this insulates so well, but it seems far more robust and has withstood a few drops on my end.
You should look at the 20 oz Contigo. It holds temp for hours, easy to drink from, and completely water-tight. You can toss this mug into the car and it won't leak. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KR9OMLM/ref=twister_B0195G545A?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I agree, Contigo is the way to go. It has this cool locking method that ensures it is sealed and wont leak. I use mine every day and throw it in my backpack and it gets jostled around and doesn't leak at all. Definitely recommend.

Buy a small jar of peanut butter and a box of graham crackers to keep in your car, then make little sandwiches:) Pretzels are also good. You could get a small insulate food container to keep fruits and veggies in.
https://www.amazon.com/THERMOS-Insulated-Stainless-10-Ounce-Charcoal/dp/B00LIRIZVU/ref=sr_1_3_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1491571728&sr=8-3&keywords=insulated%2Blunch%2Bcontainer&th=1
Yeah look at this thing https://www.amazon.com/YETI-Rambler-Stainless-Insulated-Tumbler/dp/B00JP9AJC6/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1498485415&sr=8-3&keywords=yeti
You might want to ask around various cooking/baking forums before asking for a bread maker. It seems they get heavy usage for the first 3-6 months, or sometimes even the first year and then enthusiasm for them wanes. I know mine hasn't been used in 6-7 years. Once I learned how to make no-knead bread, there was no knead. (yuk-yuk) I'd give you this one if I had reason to think that you were near enough to make that easy.
If you don't already have them a slow cooker, a dutch oven or a good stock pot can save you money if you cook in batches to make many meals for the week. And like daily_bagel said, a good Nissan thermos can save you lots of money if you brew your own coffee or tea and don't buy out.
Contigo SnapSeal Byron Vacuum-Insulated Stainless Steel Travel Mug, 20 oz., Gunmetal https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00IR77HFE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_qC30AbAF5EWWM I have two of these for that very reason. Coffee stays hot till noon and the kids can’t get the cap open. No more spills or cold coffee.
If you're going to get a YETI (or a an off-brand YETI), I'd recommend one of their Ramblers instead of any of these metal koozie things.
IMO, Koozies are best for the fact that you can fold them and keep them in your pocket. They're good for keeping beer kinda cold and your hands dry, but I mostly use them for finding which beer is mine at a party.
The Rambler cups allow you to smell a good beer - especially hop-bombs with a full nose or something else you're excited to smell while you drink - while also allowing you to use them for coffee, Arnold Palmers, margaritas, whatever-the-hell-you-want. Since the YETI or RTIC koozies don't fold, they're just as useful and transportable as the Ramblers.
During a beach vacation last week, I used my Rambler for coffee in the mornings, rinsed it out and filled it with beer at the beach, rinsed it out and threw in some margarita at night, then rinsed it out for ice water before bed.
I also live in the city, like camping & cooking, so I'll just give you some things I'd like (~sorted by price):
I have two of these and they are awesome - review here. The link in that post helps support hbf. Thanks should you choose to use that. If not direct link
Get an Rtic or Mossy Oak or Yeti mug and put it in there. Beverages stay HOT for a very long time.
Cantigo makes a coffee mug that locks closed so the mouth soiece you drink from wont move or spill. I have been using it for years and no leaks on my bus travels.
Contigo AUTOSEAL West Loop Vaccuum-Insulated Stainless Steel Travel Mug, 20 oz, Stainless Steel https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JE352NO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_LWmsDbXDH7BHY
I bought one of these in white and I really couldn't ask for anything better. It's unbelievable how well it keeps things cold (or warm).
Lifeline 7500 Silver Stainless Steel Growler - 64 oz. Capacity
http://www.amazon.com/Lifeline-7500-Silver-Stainless-Growler/dp/B00AZMICOY/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1398889743&sr=8-7&keywords=growler
I cannot speak highly enough for the travel mug by Teas Etc, I've had mine for over two years and plan to get another as a backup. I bought a little thermos sling for it to carry around with me, which more or less keeps it hot the entire day. But even without the sling, it still keeps hot for quite awhile. I really fell in love with it due to the design though. It being see through whenever I'm out with it people comment on it, either they want one or more likely they have never seen loose leaf tea before, so I usually point them in the right direction.
The trick to keeping it from over-steeping is to use less leaf and cooler water. For anyone thinking this is blasphemy, keep in mind that a good majority of green tea drunk daily in China is just thrown into a glass cup with water added to the same leaves as needed throughout the day.
Right here.
The interpretation of the law used to be that breweries could only fill growlers bought on site, but was clarified within the last couple years to allow for non-brewery/generic growler filling.
The only catch is that the growler can't have any other markings on it. I've got a couple of these, and had one place simply put tape over the logo, just to be safe. I've since replaced that with black electrical tape that stays on all the time.
Having said all of that, and while I haven't had issues at any of the bay area breweries, it's apparently still within the rights of the brewer to refuse filling growlers other than their own... I ran into this issue with Pizza Port, after leaving their growlers (I have two of those as well) back in SF, and instead tried to use my stainless ones.
I wish each brewery listed whether generic growlers were welcome or not. Might have to start a list, and try to persuade the ones who don't.
Is this what you mean by a Yeti Cup?
I got one of these, http://www.amazon.com/Thermos-Nissan-Intak-Hydration-Bottle/dp/B001EGGQB6/ref=sr_1_14?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1344308378&sr=1-14
Big enough opening to put ice cubes in. If you put it near your food it will keep it cool for hours. In the middle of august if I didn't drink much I would still have ice in it 6 hours later. Of course if i drank it all in an hour the ice would be gone just as fast.
I have one of these and I think it's just the cat's meow, although it does get a little brownish with time.
I've used many different ones including the Cointigos, Thermos and Zojirushis. I think it simply came down to this:
I work an office job and mostly drink my coffee in the AM, but might brew 3-4 cups to keep me going throughout the day. So I don't need the ultra high hours specified in some other products (20hrs hot! no no, I need maybe 5hrs-6hrs at most).
Contigo was pretty decent at this but I absolutly HATE the cleanup. Their on the go ones have sucha complicated spring system in the lid that if you leave coffee in there overnight it'll start to gunk everything up and it was a pain in the ass to clean everything 100%. I get grossed out if there's even a bit of residue left over. Zojirushi is similar, but much easier to clean and IMO if you need to drink on the go, then it is the best.
I actually daily my Thermos because it is stupid easy to clean. Bottle brush for the body, and just a regular sponge/pad for the lid. No complex openings/buttons/mechanism for gunk to build up in. It also keeps everything piping hot for 5+ hours and the built in cup is very good for coffee since you can actually smell the drink which IMO is an important part of the whole ordeal.
also I can't believe I wrote 2 paragraphs about thermoses....
I scooped some slow churned chocolate icecream into this insulated mini thermos before when I went camping. I hiked for almost 2 hours around 3-4 pm around June, the trail has no shade, and it was still pretty frozen after I made it to camp and setup my tent. I think the thermos was .16oz according to the amazon link (too lazy to check actual weight atm). https://imgur.com/a/PkoztYe
I also recently saw a kickstarter project that’s a double walled insulated container that can house a pint of icecream, they just drop the whole thing without scooping it out
My favorite mug, by far, is this wide based behemoth. You can knock it around accidentally and it won't tip. Preheat the ceramic with hot water and it holds the temp very well (nice thick walls). Only downside is that it doesn't fit in a standard cup holder. For those times, I use the Contigo Autoseal cup/thermos/mug. The lid cools the coffee slightly and automatically seals, so great for commuting. Not great for the hand warming aspect you said she liked, but then no stainless steel mugs will measure up to a ceramic for this quality.
Just remember that if it's warming her hands, it is losing heat. The only way to make sure your coffee and hands are warmed is with thick ceramic or stone. The better it is one way (hands <-> coffee heat), the worse it will be in the other. Otherwise, you can get a cup warmer to try and keep the temp up. I have the one I linked there, and while you don't want to leave the cup on there 8 hours, it will extend the drinkable time from 20-30 minutes to 2-ish hours. The warmer will get hot enough that you can touch the surface, but won't want to leave you finger on it more than a few seconds (I think it is the perfect temp compromise between useful and dangerous). Lastly, there will be folks in this subreddit horrified by the prospect of heating coffee after the initial brew. Realistically, the flavor is unaffected for about 45-60 minutes, and after that there is a very, very slight difference. As someone that hates cold coffee, that minor difference is nothing like choking down room temperature brew... ick!
tl;dr - 1st mug for home use and hand warming, 2nd mug for travel. Consider a cup warmer if she really nurses every cup or is using a thinner ceramic mug.
Specifically: https://www.amazon.com/Contigo-Autoseal-Stainless-Travel-Open-Access/dp/B009HVH4XO/ref=sr_1_4?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1475164409&sr=1-4&keywords=contigo%2Bcoffee%2Btravel%2Bmug&th=1
I am a huge fan of these: http://smile.amazon.com/Thermos-Insulated-Stainless-Discontinued-Manufacturer/dp/B00004S1CY/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1458506081&sr=8-4&keywords=thermos+24oz
It really does keep a full 24 oz of tea hot enough to enjoyably drink after 18 hours. Highly recommend.
I'm a huge fan of the "This Is Not A Paper Cup" mug. You can now find it on Amazon here...
When I bought mine (many years ago now), I could only find them in the Museum of Modern Art gift shop (in San Francisco, but was also sold in NY, Chicago, et al MoMA gift shops) and they cost $25 each at the time - but Amazon now sells them for $11.46. The porcelain imparts no taste or flavor outside of the coffee itself. The double-walled construction keeps the coffee nice and hot for the length of any reasonable commute (mine is about 35 mins). The food-grade silicone lid fits perfectly and allows for perfect car-sipping. The silicone DOES have a very noticeable plastic-ey smell when new, but mine has absolutely no smell at all now. It takes several washings to get rid of the original silicone smell. I take the lid off when I'm at the office and want to drink coffee at my desk anyway...
I've never been a big fan of stainless steel - I just like the heft and feel of a good porcelain mug. The outside of the mug has a perfect paper cup texture/feel, and the inside is perfectly glassy porcelain. Hope that helps!
I have [this] (www.amazon.com/Nissan-26-Ounce-Companion-Stainless-Steel-Insulated/dp/B00004S1CY/ref=sr_1_4?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1344566868&sr=1-4&keywords=Thermos+nissan) Cant recommend it more
Can confirm. I have this one and I have issues with the food staying super hot/cold for longer than I expect! And no condensation issues.
I have something similar to this for my own lunches and it works very well. It has an interior removable/washable divided compartment so you can store two types of food without them commingling. The only downside is that a four-year-old would definitely need a teacher to open it for him at lunchtime.
My 20oz Contigo travel mug. I fill it up before I leave for work and keep using it at work because it keeps my coffee nice and hot.
While it's probably not as nice as some, I've used the Contigo brand version of Hydroflask for a couple years and love it! The 20 oz bottle fits in most standard cup holders and withstands abuse pretty well. It keeps ice cold and unmelted forever (like 12 hours at a time.) It's also got the snapseal so it's one-handed drinking--no unscrewing a lid when you need a drink. And it's about $20. :)
My mom (who also knows nothing about the show) got me this TARDIS tumbler a few years ago and I used it constantly while I was working. There are loads of different hot and cold cup options on Amazon that you could get before Christmas.
I'm not sure where you're located, but I've always found great stuff at Newbury Comics. They have an online shop, too, but I'm not sure what kind of shipping options they have. If there is a store near where you live, they have shirts, keychains, figurines, and plenty of other things you could get for her.
Edit: spelling
Amazon doesn't give a shit. I made a similar post here before. Go look at the Top Seller for Yeti Tumblers. It's oddly half price of a legit one and is shipping from China. They are fake. All the "top reviews" say they are fake, having pics explaining why, etc.
https://www.amazon.com/Yeti-Coolers-Rambler-Tumbler-Silver/dp/B00JP9AJC6/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1485134565&sr=8-3&keywords=yeti+tumbler
I bought one as a one click buy on mobile and didn't do my research. Got it, and it was a knockoff. All Amazon did was say "lol, just keep it" and refund my money. I've kind of lost some faith in Amazon. Look up any popular movie, tv show, video game, and their are sellers with all kinds of unlicensed bootleg crap. It's beginning to look like Ebay.
Those Stanley ones are killer. You can't drink directly from them, but if you preheat them, they'll keep things hot for like 24 hours. As in still too hot to drink, in some cases.
I have a Thermos-brand double walled flask I love (but it's only ~1L). My Hydroflask and KleanKanteens are also very good at keeping things hot, but they're even smaller. All three of these brands might make larger sizes, if that helps expand your search.
They make a version that has a screw on cup cap I got specifically for this reason.
If you're looking for a growler these, Lifeline 7500 Silver Stainless Steel Growler - 64 oz. Capacity https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AZMICOY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_QazwxbJSM77A1, are my personal favorite. Double walled and vacuum seal keeps your beer cold and light out.
I box 'em up and put it in a cooler. I have a fridge and limited stove privileges where I stay for the weekdays so that helps. Costco uncooked chapati gets a couple of minutes on a plancha then some hummus and lettuce or other veg. It's quick, adaptable, cheap, vegan, and fairly healthy.
Frittatas also work well for me, they travel okay and can do double duty as breakfast or entree. I pre grind coffee and use a Stanley camping French press. https://www.amazon.com/Stanley-Classic-Vacuum-Travel-Hammertone/dp/B00NONDBXI I think I paid US$30. for mine. Milk is purchased at destination, often lettuce as well.
https://www.amazon.com/Contigo-AUTOSEAL-Vaccuum-Insulated-Stainless-Travel/dp/B00JE352NO/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=Coffee+cup+auto+close&qid=1565182295&s=gateway&sr=8-3
These are sealed and do not spill. To drink you squeeze the grey but on the lid. I don’t use it while riding. The advantage of these is that they keep your coffee warm like a flask but also work like a cup that reveals itself.
An easier answer is keep a small kettle and French press at work if you have the space.
I’d recommend this:

Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike
My item! So that my coffee might actually stay hot. I tend to get into a piece or distracted by my kids and-POOF! My coffee is cold. :(
I've been watching Doctor Who in some fashion since I was 6 years old. The Doctor is a Time Lord from the planet Gallifrey. He travels around in a time machine that is stuck in the form of a 1960s British police box. The accepted story is that the T.A.R.D.I.S. (Short for "Time and Relative Dimension in Space) used to be able to change its shape and form in order to blend in to the time and place it was in, but that the circuit got stuck when it was a police box. He travels through space and time, usually with one or more companions, many who are human, but some of whom have been robots, androids, and people from other planets.
In the new series (a 2005 reboot of the classic series which was the longest running sci-fi series on TV) that begins in 2005, the planet Gallifrey no longer exists, and the Doctor is the last of the remaining Time Lords. Or is he? The Doctor is brilliant and some would call him crazy. He does not believe in tyranny or prejudice, and he feels authority should prove its right to be called such. He saves Earth, other planets, and the universe countless times. Over the past few thousand years, he has made many enemies and many friends. He can be kind, compassionate, funny, and frightening, all in the span of a few minutes. In some episodes he can go from galactic hero to interstellar MacGuyver to time and space diplomat in under an hour. In the new series, he's even saved Christmas a couple of times.
I've been admiring this T.A.R.D.I.S. Tumbler for quite some time. Thank you for holding this contest!
EDIT: I fixed my link. Copypasta is hard.
I'm not even going to try to win now, you've nailed it and I'm borrowing this to explain to new converts!
This is awesome: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B008N47HWO/ref=cm_sw_r_an_am_ap_am_us?ie=UTF8
To add on to this, if you're looking for a bigger one, I have had the Nissan Thermos 32 oz since 2007 and haven't had any problems. I've left hot liquids in it for over 24 hours and its contents still stay quite hot.
I'm trying to improve my mental and physical health by getting out of the house more. I've recently gotten my driving licence and a part time job and now I just try to get out and interact with the outside world.
This will help me take my coffee on the go with me.
/u/alydian must have deleted her user name :(
/u/carissalf, you're a sweetheart, I'm glad we've gotten to know each other a little in the chats.
It's a Tea's Etc. I've been thinking about getting one like this, however, it's made of plastic which turns me off.
I'm really tempted to get a Libre, which is made of plastic on the outside and glass on the inside, but the price is ludicrous.
i use one of these with a built in strainer. Looks like the yellow one is the same thing.

Just gotta put in a plug for contigo. Super easy to drink out of. Very leakproof with the locking mechanism. Easy to clean with the new models. I throw it in my bag all the time. They take a pretty good beating too even if they do show some dents after a while. $15 on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/Contigo-AUTOSEAL-Insulated-Stainless-Easy-Clean/dp/B00KR9OMLM/ref=sr_1_1?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1473643077&sr=1-1&keywords=contigo
Get a growler and take some home
This one works great for me
If you have a disposable Starbucks type cup w/plastic lid that has a hole in it or a soda w/a flimsy lid from a fast food joint, yeah, he's going to nail you every time. Whether you think it's legitimate or not, the concern is over spills on equipment. Even some of the ECS rooms with no computers have had ant problems in the past because students spill their sugary drinks and it attract drones of ants. Plus, too many people don't clean up after themselves. You sound responsible (using a paper towel to prevent condensation getting on the tables or wiping it up is a good thing), but you've gotta remember not everyone else is. The responsible folks pay for those who aren't and the school isn't exactly bursting at the seams with money to take on the additional maintenance costs or the cost of replacing damaged computers, etc.
I empathize with your situation, but there are ways around the rule. Get a reusable cup that you can completely seal with a cap or airtight lid. Hydroflasks work wonders as well. He won't bitch at you if you have one of those types of cups. Just make sure you keep it sealed in between sips.
In case you're not sure what kind of cups I'm talking about, here's a few links:

Okay, first:
>The doctor told me to suck it up because she couldn't give me a note because the test was negative, even though she told me she is certain it is the flu.
1.) Get a doctor who is not stupid and useless. Holy shit. You probably have a fever, yes? How hard would it have been to write a "my patient has fever and should stay home until s/he is fever-free without medication for 24 hours." Does your doctor only treat the flu? "Sorry about your cancer diagnosis, but it's not the flu, so my hands are tied." Jesus fuck.
> How do you keep yourself positive when you have to go in sick?
2.) Does your school require you to bring in a doctors note to take sick time? That's bullshit, and unless it's an unavoidable district-wide policy, I would take it into consideration as you fill out your intent form for next year. That would help me stay positive, personally.
Moving on to how not to get sick:
How to go in sick and not die:
Good luck. Not that it helps you now, but it really does get better...most teachers get down to one good solid illness per year after a few years in the job.
Good advice all around in this thread, but I wanted to address only your coffee portaging question. I use a Stanley vacuum thermos with a French press insert and the screw on fliptop lid. It is freaking bombproof and keeps coffee piping hot. I have used it through Colorado winters, at -20F, and had scalding hot coffee after getting to work. I highly recommend them if you have a bar/saddle bag or can fit the larger diameter bottle cages on your bike. This is the thermos I use: Stanley Classic Vacuum Travel... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NONDBXI?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf
I usually take 2-4 grams with this. Usually a 1/2 tbs of coconut oil (even though it's super healthy it's still a lot of fat!), and 1 tbs of honey. It's definitely not delicious since kratom is so damn bitter, but it doesn't phase me anymore.
As I'm sure you know, kratom is difficult to dissolve in water. I've found that it does dissolve while in hot water for several minutes and shaken up a few times. I use this and recommend something similar. A leak proof top so you can easily shake it before sips makes it a lot better.
I found this on Amazon
Tea is the best! And stays hot for hours in one of these bad boys.
I do. I have been using the Takeya pitchers that Soylent sends out to new customers, I liked them so well I bought a total of 7 during the crowd-funding, so I can just throw them in the dishwasher every day. It looks like the amazon prices have started going up, but you "should" be able to get them for about $10 ea, and I've heard Costco has them in a 2 pack for $15.
I use 24oz Thermos hydration bottles when I go out, I bought mine at Walmart for about $20 ea.
Some recipes will need a blender, but I've stop using it for my current recipe. Just shake well in the Takeya, my current recipe also emulsifies really well and tends to stay that way.
I've been trying to increase my water intake too. For me, it has to be COLD and filtered. A brita filter + this water bottle has helped immensely.
Any good thermos will be your friend here if you want to keep your ice cold smoothies ice cold by the time it gets to lunch time. Some will keep them ice cold even up to supper. If you want a brand name i'd recommend a zojirushi like this one:
http://www.amazon.com/Zojirushi-SV-GHE50-Stainless-Vacuum-17-Ounce/dp/B004YB3JP4/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1421051371&sr=8-5&keywords=zojirushi+thermos
Interesting question I'm interested in hearing the answers to.
What I do: make a 24 oz Contigo cup of chicken broth in the morning with a splash of Frank's Red Hot and a tbsp of heavy whipping cream and drink from it throughout the day like coffee. They're OOS on the 24oz but I believe I got mine from Walmart.
here is an example of a 24 ounce (.71 liter) bottle with a counter.
I see a lot of recommendations for Hydroflask here. As an owner of one I can tell you 100% they aren't buyitforlife. Don't get me wrong I LOVE mine and use it every day. But three months in and it has a bunch of dents from very small bumps and like 2 foot drops . The coating is also chipping off on the bottom from normal use.
If you want buyitforlife quality I highly recommend another one I've used for years now, Thermos. Doesn't dent (or at least hasn't on me over the years) Just like hydroflask keeps water cold 24 hours but UNLIKE hydroflask, keeps liquid piping hot 24 hours. I can personally recommend this one since ive used both. Both are great but hydroflask definitely isn't bifl material

Totally non traditional, but I love my kleen kanteen pint glass. It's insulated stainless steel, which means no coaster needed and it stays cold and fizzy for an extremely long time.

...it works 5+ hours keeping water for tea HOT. When I was playing Skyrim over the winter, I would put hot water / tea in there and drink a cup of tea every hour or so, and the last cup was still just as hot as the first.
--Robert
I've got one of these contigo cups, and it works OK: Coffee stays hot for 3+ hours(mine rarely lasts longer than 2 :p); fits in a standards car cupholder. Kind of a pain in the dick to clean the lid though.
e: woops, you said 20+ oz, I linked a 16 oz, but they make larger ones
~£65 for the Hydro Flask or ~£16 for Klean Kanteen.
I too really like Klean Kanteen I use it almost exclusively to drink coffee both at home and on the go. Be aware though that the KleanKanteen lids are not leak proof at all! The lid which will keep your coffee very hot leaks like crazy and is not at all practical for say driving. As far as the stainless steel imparting flavor... That is an issue I am constantly monitoring. When I brew a pour-over I immediately transfer the entire yield to the KleenKanteen. I pour a splash into an ice chilled ceramic LINO 5 oz. Cappuccino Cup & Saucer by notNeutral and another splash into a 2nd preheated Lino.
There is definitely a shift in mouth feel between drinking from a ceramic cup and stainless steel but I have yet to detect a flavor shift. Perhaps my palette is calibrated for stainless. I definitely take the lid completely off to drink as yes the plastic lid is not satisfying to drink through. For me drinking my coffee exclusively from a ceramic cup forces me to drink too quickly. I enjoy tracking the flavor changes in each brew from hot to chilled at a slow controlled pace. Having the option to speed up or slow down the cooling by removing/replacing lid on KleanKanteen is invaluable. I sometimes pour out more coffee into Lino too if I detect flavor changes at other temperatures as well. There are indeed real sensory experience changes between stainless steel and ceramic but not true flavor shifts. But I fully realize everyone has there own sensitivities. I am also meticulous in cleaning the stainless steel. The lid could well be the biggest culprit in imparting unwanted flavor in all brands of Stainless Steel containers.
That's a tough one. There are a lot of brewing devices under $25.
This site has a wide variety of coffee goods. I've linked the "Under $50 gift ideas" section. Try that.
Looking in there, I saw an Aeropress (My favorite way to make a single cup of black coffee), I saw a super cheap v60 pourover device for like $5 which would leave you money to buy some gourmet coffee to go with it.
If he really loves good coffee you could order some stuff from stumptown coffee or blue bottle or one of those fancy places online.
a bag of coffee is never a bad gift for someone who likes coffee. a brewing device is a bit riskier as they may already have one and some of them require other gear and you don't know what he has and doesn't have.
Also worth mentioning are these Zojirushi thermoses. The Zojirushi ones are made with some kind of black magic that keeps heat trapped inside for amounts of time that defies physics. There's the one I linked which pours into a cup or there's the other style that you drink straight from. I prefer the cup style because the coffee stays burning hot for so long that I need to pour it into the cup to let it cool while I sip. I always burn my tongue on the other style though it's better when driving. I have both. Only bad thing is it is a few dollars over your mark. But all the good Secret Santa gifts go a little over. ;)
Anyhow, hope that helps.
Scavenger hunts are too much fun! I should be working! RAWR! Thanks for the fun break =]
1.) Something that is grey. My name is makeup and I am grey! WL
2.) Something reminiscent of rain. This color is called "Naughty Nautical". Nautical = water, water = rain. =D?? WL
3.) Something food related that is unusual. Pretty sure most people don't have teeney shaped veggie cutters. WL
4.) Something on your list that is for someone other than yourself. Tell me who it's for and why. (Yes, pets count!) This is for my two parrots! My quaker especially loves dried papaya. I'm teaching her how to fly right now and have been using food as a reward, but we ran out of papaya a couple of weeks ago, and our local bird store has been out of stock for a long time. Turns out that Whole Foods doesn't carry dried papaya either. Rawr! WL
5.) A book I should read! I am an avid reader, so take your best shot and tell me why I need to read it! The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. I had heard about this when the movie came out in English. I liked the movie and then moved on with my life. Come this spring, I found myself facing a LOT LOT LOT of driving by myself, so I started borrowing audiobooks from the library. I borrowed all three of these books and REALLY enjoyed them. It wasn't at all what I expected. They're murder mysteries with a lot of themes about violence against women. When I learned about the author, it became that much more interesting. The author wrote these books with the intention of making 10, but died after the third one. They found them after he died. The themes about sexual violence stem from a gang rape he witnessed as a teenager. He never forgave himself for not being able to help her, so he channeled all those emotions into his writing later in life. Anyway.....interesting stuff. Good books. I recommend them :)
6.) An item that is less than a dollar, including shipping... that is not jewelry, nail polish, and or hair related! Pfft.
7.) Something related to cats. I love cats! (keep this SFW, you know who you are...) If I was a cat, this would be my JAM!
8.) Something that is not useful, but so beautiful you must have it. Dresses are admittedly useful for avoiding public indecency charges, but not really useful beyond that. BUT LOOK AT THE RAINBOWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WL
9.) A movie everyone should watch at least once in their life. Why? Not on my wishlist (it's on American Netflix though!), but everyone should be aware of the impact of plastic on the environment and our bodies. Education is everything. Plus, there's a newborn baby at the end.
10.) Something that would be useful when the zombies attack. Explain. 1. Stab zombie in the skull. 2. ??? 3. Profit. The reviews rave that it's super sharp and doesn't stick so it probably wouldn't get stuck in their skull like other knives. WL
11.) Something that would have a profound impact on your life and help you to achieve your current goals. I don't know if I'd use the word profound, but it would sure help me out. A big passion of mine is learning to ID birds. I'm pretty good at most birds, but finding information on juveniles is VERY difficult sometimes. I've used this book before to help identify birds in hand, but I think the information regarding juvenile plumage would help me identify young birds from afar. It's even part of my job to identify birds! WL
12.) One of those pesky Add-On items. This is an Add-On item, but it's also a hair addon =P Not on my WL, but I'm losing my hair like crazy so I might have to look into these >.>
13.) The most expensive thing on your list. Your dream item. Why? This isn't the most expensive item on my list (that was #8), but it's the one that would help me the most! When I do field work, I tend to have a lot of gear on me at once, and the extra strain of binoculars around my neck tends to give me some really freaking sore muscles. A harness would be MUCH easier on my shoulders/neck/back. I start field work again in October, so I plan on buying it for myself by then anyway =] WL
14.) Something bigger than a bread box. EDIT A bread box is typically similar in size to a microwave. This is larger than the average bread box.
15.) Something smaller than a golf ball. I am smaller than a golf ball! WL
16.) Something that smells wonderful. This smells amazing!!! I'm infatuated with cinnamon, but had to stop using cinnamon Crest YEARS ago because I developed a bad reaction to it. This stuff is expensive, but the company is very environmentally responsible and I feel good giving my business to them. WL
17.) A (SFW) toy. This seems pretty SFW unless you're playing Cards Against Humanity. evil grin WL
18.) Something that would be helpful for going back to school. I used sticky notes all the time in school! WL
19.) Something related to your current obsession, whatever that may be. I've obsessed with birds since I was 11. I've been obsessed with rainbows forever. I'm currently obsessed with sushi. THIS IS ALL THREE! WL
20.) Something that is just so amazing and awe-inspiring that I simply must see it. Explain why it is so grand. Hear me out! This baby can keep ice for DAYS. Sitting out in the sun for hours on end? NO PROBLEM! YOU'LL HAVE ICE AT THE END OF THE DAY!! Seriously, Thermos needs to pay me for how much I rave about their stuff. My water bottle has still had ice in it after three days AND being refilled twice. No joke.
BONUS
This beauty was made in OR.
fear cuts deeper than swords. She is my favorite character by far :)
Okay, you might be in over your head if you aren't a pro bartender and you are supplying drinks solely to 60 people. That's absurd. I advise to make punches and just pour them as people want them. I have a couple of these...
https://www.amazon.com/Lifeline-7500-Silver-Stainless-Growler/dp/B00AZMICOY
When I handle a big party I just make a Jungle Bird or a Zombie scaled up to this container, leaving room for about 8 oz of crushed ice, shake it like crazy to chill and get a little dilution, seal, put in fridge till the party is about to begin. I always shake the container a bit before pouring it into a glass with ice, smack a mint sprig and put it in there. Easy.
For a third drink you could do a Moscow Mule, people fucking love those. Combine 1/2 oz lime juice and 2 oz vodka in a shaker per order, shake with ice, strain into however many glasses evenly, and top with 4 oz of ginger beer each. Ez-pz. at parties lime juice makes people feel fresh and alive. You can also make a huge batch of margarita.
Have some coke around and do jack and coke. Have some Gosling's Black Seal and do Dark and Stormy's (2 to 1 of ginger beer to rum) with the ginger beer.
This is going to be rough. Try your best to not have to do this, if you aren't a pro, this will be a nightmare for you.
Most travel mugs don't handle microwave ovens very well, at lest the ones I've heard of. Many have metal inside, some in the side and some in the opening mechanism in the lid.
I would not be too worried about the plastic warping, but some plastic types can supposedly release some unhealthy chemicals when microwaved, which can ruin the taste of the coffee (but might also be a bit dangerous to consume).
There are travel mugs that are advertised as microwave safe, but they tend to be less insulated than the ones metal/non-microwaveable ones, like this one.
I brew a chemex every day and store it in a Zojirushi and bring it to work. There is a definite change (in my opinion depreciation) of flavor that results from having it stored there. I must admit my thermos isn't in the most spotless condition, as it's narrow clearance makes it very difficult to scrub. When drinking from the thermos itself, the quality heat-retention makes it hard to decipher whether or not if I will burn myself, as well as ruining any aromatics that may have been a component of the brew. Even when pouring it into a separate styrofoam cup, I notice it's not great, but still better than drinking from the thermos directly.
Would I love to drop dough on a Lido 2, Gooseneck, and Chemex for work? Oh yeah.
Is my current setup more fiscally responsible and acceptable, yes =(
For water, invest in one of these. I've had mine for 18 months now, use it all day every day, and it still works perfectly. Fill it, add three ice cubes, and it'll stay cold all day. (Or use it for coffee in the morning, then refill with water at work.)
The locking lid seals so well you can store it upside down in your bag and it doesn't leak. Seriously worth the money and I bet I've only bought water in a bottle twice since I got it.

Most important: Get one with a vacuum seal. Nothing else works as well. Referencing the comment from /u/0accountability... There are Contigo Autoseals with and without the vacuum seal.
I recently bought two "actual" Thermoses. For something I love and use every day I feel they're inexpensive (mine were $25 and $30 )and after a few months of every day use, I'm a huge fan. My recommendation, look through the Thermos brand products on Amazon and on Thermos.com. Find one that "Keeps hot for 24 hours", then look for other features that you're interested in. (How it looks, does it have a caribeener, does it float, etc.)
I bought one, loved it so much I decided to get one with a caribeener and gave the "old one" to my wife who loves it as well.
Here are links to the two I use:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003U583YW
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000FOOSIQ
I have only used mine for cold liquids, but I've been really impressed by the quality and performance. They both keep drinks cold for 12-24 hours (REALLY!) It does depend on external temp and starting temp of the liquid but I have been astonished by their ability maintain temperature. Judging from my experiences with the cold, I expect the hot to do very well.
Not a whole lot of BIFL things that you can buy for $60, though I'm in full on shopping mode from putting together my wedding registry together so I have some ideas:
I'd buy a single serve coffee maker and maybe a good coffee mug
January 31st and a boy. Tea and something to drink it in CONGRATULATIONS! :D
When I moved out for the first time I went and spent a stupid amount of money at IKEA.... they are NOT BIFL at all. expecially not cookware/plates/glasses. i bought those and within 1 year everything almost broke.. not from me dropping them. but like 2 glasses actually broke in mine and my girlfriends hands when we were holding them! and 2 broke when we were washing them. with that being said..
Dont buy alot of stuff from ikea (some things are OK like the cheap partical board dressers and bed frames you will get a few years out of them if u take care of it but not bifl)
As far as where to invest FIRST think about where you are going to be spending the most time in your house. will it be your bedroom? living room with guests or kitchen if You like to cook or man cave (this is me) and invest in quality items in the location you pick. dont buy everything at once unless you HAVE to. you will wind up wasting money on things u don't need or might want to change
Now that my rant is out of the way....
I use a couple of these. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00IR77HFE
I use a thermos for transport. i can easily fit an O in there. picked it up for less than $1 at a thrift store. and blends in.
I think he was talking about this one:
http://www.amazon.com/Contigo-Stainless-Open-Access-Discontinued-Manufacturer/dp/B009HVH4XO/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1411671148&sr=8-2&keywords=contigo
It's the only thermos I've ever had that doesn't leak all over my car.
Came here to suggest this. I have had this Nissan thermos for a couple years now, and though it is not huge, it has been perfect for me. It is freakin' indestructible! I love it.
Keep in mind, though that I am stuck in the valve or a worn oring. shrug. I too really like Klean Kanteen I use it for a lighter coffee that includes a variety of different types out there (blade, burr, hand).
Depending on how long it is from when you leave home until when you eat you could just bring something you don't mind eating at room temp.
My old office only had 2 microwaves for over 100 people, probably over 150. The office before that had 2-4 and for a few months none. Needless to say there was always a wait at lunch time. I just started eating my food room temp.
Obviously not everything tastes as good at room temp. I've had good luck with Japanese bento style meals; rice, veg, a bit of meat. Just bento cookbook is a good resource. She has tips for making ahead and freezing parts of the meals as well.
If you have time to cook something quick or heat up some soup a good lunch jar will keep it warm until it's time to eat. It great for pasta and sauce.
For a heartier meal and/or more variety mr bento can't be beat. The stuff at the bottom stays warmest. Again it requires some prep time in the morning though
My wife bought me one of thesetravel mug
I throw it my backpack and off to work I go. It has a piece on the lid that locks it so the button you push to drink is stuck closed.

Review:
I don't have a lot to complain about. I think that life would be much better if I could be a SAHM, my baby would start sleeping through the night, my house was clean, and if someone could promise me that my husband's health was totally fine.

This is not war...this is pest control!
Your husband needs this for his morning commute. Hopefully its bigger on the inside for more coffee!
I love the three doctors next to the tardis. I'm decorating my daughters room with doctor who and Firefly stuff :)
Under $5 travel chopstick set!
I've been thinking of getting a Zojirushi travel mug, but my regular thermos still works, so I haven't found a way to excuse the expense. But the manufacturer is very well respected in the BIFL crowd, and I've heard nothing but praise for their travel mugs. Here are a couple both with a filter for leaves and a whole lot without; all seem to be designed for easy cleaning.
Just bought several of these as groomsman gifts. I also got one for myself. Used it for the first time the other day and I like it. Gets the job done well! I want to try to take it camping soon and see how it really holds up!
Yup! And it does an awesome job keeping it warm throughout the whole day. The tea filter is perfect for loose leafs, which is perfect if you take your tea on-the-go!
I have the same problem with this thermos.

Here are the things I want to infinity and beyond ...
Sometimes I just need a Wonka LaffyTaffy in banana, because those other flavors are just a waste of calories, and a Dr. Who cup so I can wash the taffy down with something delightful. Like lemonade.
I've had the Thermos Intak bottle for about 2 years now and use it every day. Seals and everything are still going strong, no issues with leaking and the locking mechanism works just like when I bought it.
There are these and this was the tumblr I was talking about.
Ceramic coffee mug with lid
I think this is your thing man. I would just drink straight from it. 24oz keeps liquids hot for 12 hours.
I need a new mug and was looking at a Contigo. Anyone had both?
Get these: http://www.amazon.com/Thermos-Nissan-Intak-Hydration-Bottle/dp/B001EGGQB6/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1393713004&sr=8-7&keywords=water+bottle
I've bought them at walmart and ROSS (cheapest there, though the color selection was limited). Between my wife and I we have like 6 of them. They go to work with us, stay in cars, go to the gym, go around the house, etc. They work amazingly well, and I've never had one break (even when dropped onto cement/tile). Also, because the top screws off it's easy to scrub inside, or put a bunch of regular ice cubes in, etc. They handle the freezer well also.
They're even easy enough to open/close that I can do that with 16oz sparring gloves on.
This is what I use https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JJBF3EO/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_O8GBxbMJMF0M9
Fill it with ice water for five to ten minutes first. Keeps cold for a long time.
This is the real answer^^^ I personally use a thermos. I make my coffee in the morning and drink it all day. It can stay hot for as long as 24 hours, no joke.
I love my coffee hot. This keeps it hot to warm for a good 4+hrs. Plus it holds 20oz. Love it

This wouldn't be bad either.
I don't know how well they work for cold drinks, but for hot drinks you can't get any better than Contigo Autoseal.

There is an interesting ceramic coffee cup that resembles those disposable paper ones that coffee shops and gas stations give you...I'll edit this if I find the link
EDIT: THIS is the cup. I'm pretty sure you can find it cheaper elsewhere. I saw it on another site for like USD$9.
I take public transit to the office and am typically out of the house for 11 hours on weekdays.
Dagne Dover Legend Tote, black
Yeah, anything glass, ceramic, or stainless steel is what you want. Make sure the stainless steel isn't coated on the inside.
Some suggestions:
A roomate has a plastic reusable tumbler like the one you included in your post. I haven't smelled it, but I have noticed that it's cracked and stained brown. Avoid plastic.
I had this porcelain version of the mug you linked to for years and loved it. I was so sad when I dropped it. I really should buy a new one. Anyway, the inside was always clean, the top was easy enough to clean even if it was silicone, and the insulation was great.
The Contigo auto-seal 20 oz. A sippy cup for adults, and it’s awesome.
https://www.amazon.com/Contigo-AUTOSEAL-Vaccuum-Insulated-Stainless-Travel/dp/B00JE352NO/
Is your contraption different from a French press thermos like this?
I have a 32 oz camelbak, but I feel ya on the dog fur. The rubber mouthpiece is also harder to clean.
THIS 24oz Thermos water bottle has been my daily go-to for 4 years - love it. I've bought two since I dropped my first one once too many times and broke the lid (no fault of the bottle, just my clumsiness).
If the size is a deal breaker, I'd definitely try to find something similar.
No reason for you to have to wrory about this, or eat lukewardm food when something has already been invented to take care of this problem. A thermos
This one works out well. Kid takes his lunch to school in it each day - 4.5 hours after I pack it, it's still steaming hot.
Not sure if you're into Doctor Who, but I have this mug. If I make coffee right before I leave the house, it's usually drinkable within 30 mins (whenever I get where I'm going).
Mine melted right off!
She since replaced it with this so it's all good.
I have a 17 outback and loooovvvee this contigo cup

I've had that Secura press for 3 years now, and I have to say it's been fantastic. If you want to make less coffee I suggest stacking two screens together to get a better extraction with less water.
EDIT: I also have one of these, makes about 12oz with the basket in. https://www.amazon.com/Stanley-Classic-Vacuum-Travel-Hammertone/dp/B00NONDBXI/ref=sr_1_4?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1543551455&sr=1-4&keywords=stanley+french+press
I have this mug, it keeps my coffee hot for hours and it is significantly cheaper than some of the other suggestions here. Also the lid locks so I can throw it in my bag & it won't leak and it is a 20oz mug rather than 16oz. You can get it at your local big-box store for the same price as Amazon ($12).
Thanks guys! Great recommendations. I was not expecting so many useful comments.
I have an aeropress but need to learn to use it more. I already have a at home french press and I will be a buying a moka pot not part of this budget.

Which hand grinder would you guys recommend?
I have Krups Grinder but it doesn't have different settings for the grind size. So what would be the least I need to spend for a good electric grinder?

Anyone have experience with Stanley Travel Press? Wondering which one to buy Stanley or Kohipress.
Also for the electric kettle - has anyone used Doctor Hetzner or Brevo? I am wondering if I should try to save some money here or just go for the Bonavita.

I like the Clever Dipper but found a Chemex style Bodum for less, wondering if it would make any difference.

Once again, thanks guys!
Hey fellow Canadian!
This is what I use: https://www.londondrugs.com/thermos-stainless-steel-vacuum-insulated-briefcase-bottle---midnight-blue---470ml/L3414539.html
I actually have two. One is strictly for coffee. The other for tea or water. While they're not particularly difficult to clean, I don't like my tea tasting like coffee.
EDIT: I just realized it's not really a slim profile like you're looking for. Sorry. I guess you could go all out with a Zoji: https://www.amazon.ca/Zojirushi-SV-GHE50-Vacuum-17-Ounce-Stainless/dp/B004YB3JP4
I have this and it not only keeps coffee hot for more than 24 hours, but it holds 24 oz. Dropped it on concrete several times and has a few scratches and dings, but still tip top shape.
After having leaks and no confidence in the seal or durability of a number of bottles/mugs I got an earlier version of the Contigo 20oz mug and 3 years ago bought the newest version which I use every day. https://smile.amazon.com/Contigo-SnapSeal-Vacuum-Insulated-Stainless-Gunmetal/dp/B00IR77HFE/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1549013258&sr=8-4&keywords=contigo+coffee+travel+mug+20+oz
I am a pilot and just throw this into my backpack with my $1k headsets and my IPad and my log book, and other expensive stuff with 100% confidence that it will not leak. You can was this all the time in a dishwasher and it looks as new today as it did when i bought it. $13 bucks on Amazon.
Without a doubt, get a Stanley mug!
I saw a previous reply mentioning one, which will also be fantastic, but I've got the Stanley Classic Travel Press: https://www.amazon.com/Stanley-Classic-Vacuum-Travel-Press/dp/B00NONDBXI/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=stanley+coffee+press&qid=1550782699&s=gateway&sr=8-5
This thing is simply amazing. I once did a test and left hot water in it- after 22 hours, it was still too hot to touch.
The coffee press also allows for freshly brewed coffee on the fly, which I find super convenient on hikes and camping trips - since I got this mug, I never used my other collapsible hiking coffee drip again.
Still much easier to clean and care for than a glass growler!
These ones periodically drop to below $20.
http://www.amazon.com/Lifeline-7500-Silver-Stainless-Growler/dp/B00AZMICOY
No brainier at that price. I have dropped mine (full) twice with no problems, but I have read of others who have not been as lucky, so I don't necessarily recommend it :-)
Honestly, just buy the Contigo listed in the link below.
It is better than any tumbler that Starbucks sells, has a much better leak-proof lid than almost any other tumbler out there, and you can buy an optional tea infuser for it as well.
http://www.amazon.com/Contigo-AUTOSEAL-Stainless-Easy-Clean-20-Ounce/dp/B00KR9OMLM/ref=sr_1_1?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1418611681&sr=1-1&pebp=1418611655960
This is the one I use and it's pretty good.
Hard boil eggs a few days in advance, bring 3/day as morning snacks. (they won't need refrigerating for a few hours)
Make a bowl of cottage cheese (4% ideal, 2% if you have to but never non-fat) and add fruit to it the night before. Put in fridge for a fast morning meal before you leave.
You can make a protein shake in the morning too - I like AllMax Hexapro because it takes a while to digest and it's thick but get whatever type you enjoy.
Doing the above, my breakfasts are about 450-Cal and keep me full until mid-morning or lunch when I tuck in to the eggs.
Ditch the Hamburger Helper - it's basically sugar, starch, and more sugar, with some spices.
Greek yogurt is GREAT! Just make sure you get the HIGH FAT type - something like 6-8%. Fat is NOT the enemy; sugar/carbs are.
FROZEN FRUIT: game-changer for me. Never goes bad, usually picked at peak ripeness. I stock the freezer up when it's on sale, then take a cup out the night before and let it thaw in the fridge.
There are some awesome insulated containers for keeping food cold on a commute:

There are boxy ones with multiple compartments to:

Full disclosure: I used to love eating all the things I'm telling you not to! The game-changer for me (and I'm a 6'0" tall dude whose weight started near yours) was going LCHF (low-carb, high-fat). My macros are about 30% carb, 35%/35% fat/protein.
Zojirushi's mugs are the best for keeping any liquid hot/cold for ALL DAY long. I would pour boiling water in the morning, and at the end of the day it would be still hot. I use this usually for teas because I drink espresso.. You should check this out.
If you don't need to drink on the go (you get to your desk at work and could pour it into a mug) I've got the perfect solution for you. The Thermos Nissan Bottle. It's fantastic.
It keeps things hot all day and is completely leak proof. It's also got a really cool feature where you barley un-screw the cap and then you can pour out of it into a mug.
I make a full french press worth of coffee in the morning at home, pour it into this thermos and then I've got it at my desk all day.
I don't know how hardcore of an outdoorswoman you mean, but my first thought was a hammock, too. Eno is a solid brand, but you can find hammocks for a lot cheaper with bugnets or other accessories.
But for a more pragmatic person: a water bottle, a winter hat, a pair of gloves, or a tumbler.
Small gifts that will be used often can be more meaningful, at least in my experience. Plus, you can give more than one, which makes the total gift seem larger
I use a Contigo travel mug for coffee. I've never tried it with soylent as I'm worried that the powder/solution would gunk up the works but I can tell you that it works incredibly well for temperature regulation, is built wicked tough, and shows no sign of rust. 10/10 would buy again.
I have two of these. They're awesome.

I'd get two different products - one for insulated beverage storage and one for boiling water over a fire.

Most fancy tea ware is overpriced but there seem to be many options here.
u/Notaprizetobewon I will suggest this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JJBF3EO/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_kJoLDbRYMRWXE
It's a Thermos brand thermos. It literally keeps my husband's coffee hot for 24+ hours. Best thermos out there in my opinion.
Happy birthday to your dad and good luck finding the perfect gift! 😊❤️
This is the thermos I carry. Perfect size and keeps my drink hot/cold all day.
Not sure what kind of lunch you eat, but I prefer the Asian designs for lunch boxes.
Happy birthday! I hope you are having a wonderful day! Maybe this will put a goofy smile on your face!
This one!
But careful as it can keep tea undrinkably hot for 4 hours if it's at around boiling going in.
You could try on of these: I Am Not A Paper Cup
I've used one and it keeps the coffee hot for longer than a standard mug...
Here's one for $30. If you watch it, they will get as low as $23 and work fantastically well.

looks like amazon has them for a little more money:

This is perfect for me because I want a time machine to get me a couple of hours more sleep. Got to go to fecking work though, bah!
Congrats on the raise! Especially in today's economy, it's great that that kind of recognition came through!
I feel a lot like a TARDIS - easily overlooked on the surface, but vast and wonderful on the inside.
One of my twin girls has decided she wants fishing to be her special thing with her daddy. Of course it must be pink :)
Points for the Contico bottle. I have 4 in my household. Best bedside bottle ever. Keeps water ice cold overnight and then some, plus is designed with a top where you can drink easily without having to lift your head from the pillow. Seriously an amazing bottle.
Not only do I need this but we need this.
Eh? Eh?
Hey, I'm in the exact same kind of setup and just recently dumped soda for tea. There's a hot water spigot on our coffee machine that pumps water out at 200 deg F.
I got one of these: http://amazon.com/dp/B004PV6SXS?tag=dimwellnet-20
If you want something with a built-in infuser, try this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003FGW71G?tag=dimwellnet-20
Add that to a box of sample tea bags (I started with a Twinings sample box from Publix, I think) and you're ready to get started.
The mug linked above keeps everything nice and warm for an hour or so.
I'm sure that loose is measurably better, but I'm ignorant and bags are fine. Plus, it's easy to brew a bag while I'm on my way to a meeting and just drop the used bag into the trash before things get started.
Love the poster! Ten is my fav.

Doctor Who travel mug!
I could go on all day :)
My office has one of those weird machines that only takes their gross bagged coffee. Such a bummer!
Cold brew concentrate is a good idea- I opted for getting a good travel thermos and just bringing mine hot from home.
My husband used to take a thermos of hot water (like this https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00LIRIZVU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_.xYaBbVKF3X14) and just warm up the bottle enough to melt the fat.
It is made by brix. Bought it years ago at a (edit bed bath and beyond)

I couldn't find it for sale online.
This one appears to be the same concept

I'm guessing your in the DC area. If so you may want to consider getting one of these and hitting up Port City in Alexandria.
I have the same issues as OP, and I drink that much water a day because im always thirsty, but I pee every hour so it doesnt seem to help my other issues. Going to an endocrinologist and checking in with my nephrologist soon, but in the meantime it's annoying. I keep a sweet awesome water bottle always full, because having a nice one with a counter in the lid keeps me motivated to drink more. I take it everywhere with me, and that one has a lock so it never leaks in my purse.
Anyway, that's a nice suggestion for the OP, best of luck hah
I use one of these mamer-jammers.
If anyone is looking for one, I would recommend a Zojirushi. This one only holds 16oz (one large cup), but it will keep your tea warm for a long time. It also has a tea leaf filter, if you like to leave the leaves in you mug/cup/thermos as you drink.
Thanks, those look really nice. I guess I'm really looking for a tumbler, this and this one looks like it would fit the bill.
I have one of these and it serves me well. I read about it on a thread of recommend containers. I'll see if I can dig it up.
I got it from Amazon. I actually have 2 because I accidentally ordered 2 but this is my favorite as well. My original one got destroyed in a car accident so I am very happy to have a new one!

Just a disclaimer, I love stronggg tea so I usually steep more than the average person hence why mine looks very leafy. Also I know most people don't drink it this way but I love that super fine strainer on top so I keep the leaves in instead of steeping for a certain amount of time. I find it also is a great aesthetic and fills me with peace. Another reason it's such a great tumbler. <3 So glad you like yours also!!!

all the same size. 6xcups, 6xsaucers. probably fits 3oz (half a "true coffee cup" or so. They're designed for espresso, like for after dinner or something.
I filled up my Nissan 26oz Thermos and have been sipping ALL DAY. :)
I think mine is only 24oz but here's a 32 that I'm sure is the same thing. Here
My school has no air conditioning and I swear it was 200 degrees in it todat. My item is this water bottle so I can take ice cold water to school and not worry about bringing a new nonreuseable one with. I have searched my house and cant find one reuseable water bottle, so having one would be helpful. ... Also, Doctor Who :3
It's this over-priced tumbler that keeps drinks cold/hot for a good while.

I just bought this travel mug to make tea while I'm out ( http://amzn.com/B003FGW71G ) and the packaging said to steep less tea at a lower temperature in order to avoid oversteeping/bitterness, since the tea will be sitting in the mug the whole time you're drinking it. I used about 1.5 teaspoons of jasmine pearls and water that cooled for about 5 minutes from a boil (I was at a friends place so I didn't have an electric kettle or anything) and it tasted pretty bitter still; should I use even less tea/cooler water? Or do you guys have recommendations for better brewing methods with this type of mug?
I have a 15-year old stainless steel double-wall Thermos that isn't all too different from this or this. It certainly does a good job of keeping things warm for long periods of time. I've forgotten it on my desk at work overnight half full, and it was usually still steaming a bit the next morning when I dumped it out (24 hours later). The trick with these or anything like it, is to pre-heat by filling with boiling water and letting it sit for 5-10 minutes before filling it with your beverage.
As for flavor, I've never really noticed any flavor loss, but I've mostly used it for coffee or strong black teas like Earl Grey. I would imagine delicate green teas probably wouldn't do so great being kept warm for long periods of time regardless of what they're in.
You can actually do this if you buy "roll your own" bags. Something like this:
https://www.amazon.com/Filter-Bags-Disposable-Infuser-Filters/dp/B010RV810W/
But you will also need a grinder, or pre-ground beans, and in the end something like a portable french press or something like this:
https://www.amazon.com/Teas-Etc-Tea-Traveler-Ounces/dp/B003FGW71G
Might work better.
Thermos Nissan here at Amazon
From a performance test online... this was tested over five hours.
“The Thermos Nissan bottle did the best, with the water at 186 degrees F. — a drop of just 26 degrees. Interestingly, while it holds the most liquid, it has a considerably smaller diameter and is far lighter weight than the others. The heat retention is fantastic — I just wish they made a wide-mouth bottle that was smaller than 48 ounces (6 cups) — while that’s great for Thermos cooking, it’s too large for making yogurt and so I have to use the narrow mouth bottle, which is a little harder to pour the finished yogurt out of. But the extra hassle is well worth it, with the consistently great results I get.”
...and they’re reasonable priced at that amazing link. Please post back here with what you purchase and your experience with it. Thanks, and have fun camping!
I just bought two of these 1L Thermoses and started throwing them in my bag with me when I go to work. You can knock out about half a gallon on the go that way.
