Willing to bet they lifted it rather than "hit" it. In this case, considering ants weight between 1 and 5 mg (assuming 1 mg in this case) and they can lift 20-100 times their weight (assuming 20 in this case), it would only take 85 ants to lift and move an ant trap weighing 0.06 ounces such as this one: http://www.amazon.com/Raid-Ant-Bait-Red-Box-4/dp/B000BQUUCG. If I had been less conservative (lets say 2mg ant weight and 30x weight lifting capacity), then it would have taken only 29 ants to move that trap.

[Here] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004MSQKX2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_pZzaBbNT028G3) is a set of 4 cuttings for $33 with free shipping. They're all a small branch about a foot long. I have 4 Plumerias (none from that link tho) and that's how all of mine started out.

WOODPECKER

My mom was always very fun to be around with, she was a stay at home mom for most of our childhood. Our parents had us when they were very young, so it's understandable that she was immature, playful and full of energy.
One day, for Children's Day (I don't know if it's a thing anywhere else), she decided that instead of giving us chocolate as every year, she would let us choose what we did that day and she could not say no. She thought we would drag her to the zoo or make her cook endless pots of Mac&Cheese. NOPE! we took everything we found on the fridge and splushed it all over her. Chocolate syrup in one side, mustard on the other, spaghettis all over her hair. The highlight was seeing the dog lick it off her. Great memories. The year after, it was back to chocolates.

I'm more optimistic than most when it comes to growing bonsai from very early stages, but the truth is most people with less than 10 years of bonsai experience have practically zero chance of succeeding in creating a bonsai from seed. And those with 10 years or more rarely go down that path because of the time it takes to do it right (typically 20-30 years).

I think a lot of newbies think of bonsai from seed as "plant a seed in a bonsai pot and watch it turn into one", a huge misconception that is encouraged by crap like this. I think this is the misconception that the folks here often rail against. This pretty much just won't work.

Even adamant seed deniers like small_trunks would admit that one can, in fact, produce bonsai from seed if you plant many seeds to account for failures, and grow them in the ground for 10-15 years with proper technique along the way (grow, chop, grow, chop, etc). But most folks just aren't up for this kind of project, so it tends to get discouraged.

I have all kinds of experiments going with seedlings that sprouted up in my yard naturally (technically from seed even though I didn't plant them). There's probably not a single one that will be in a bonsai pot in less than 10 years, and most will take longer. Many may not even make it that far, although I have high hopes for at least a few of them.

So while I agree that hun technically made a broad and incorrect statement, in actual practice it was pretty accurate.

I'm so glad I was able to help. You've really made my day.

Dragon Tree

Table Lamp

Ikea Desk Items

I really just used these items to give you some ideas, so don't feel like you're stuck using any of those.

You may be able to find a nightstand on Craigslist for $50 or less and paint it to match your dresser. The reason I used that particular picture was because I was dumbfounded over that green item sitting on the books. Seriously...what is that thing? I swear it looks like someone wadded up a piece of sod and threw it in there!

You can probably pick up a similar vase, a pot for the tree, and other accessories in Michaels, and table lamps like that are available everywhere.

As for the bedding, sets like that are pretty economical because they include everything you need, but that particular set has to be dry cleaned. I wouldn't even consider it if you have a pet that likes to sleep on your bed. However, you should be able to find something similar if that bothers you.

For the desk, I really just used that one since it's DIY. You can get a similar effect by going to a home improvement store and getting them to cut a board to any size you'd like and then painting or staining it. You can put it on practically anything: file cabinets, bookcases, kitchen cabinets, etc. It's fairly inexpensive and will give you a custom look.

I had no idea you liked comic books or I would have used some comic covers for the artwork. My husband is a collector and I swear we need a bigger house because his collection is getting out of hand!

I got these, and I love them. THe packaging was good, and the plants looked great. They are doing pretty well, I googled tips on growing, adn they have served me well.

u/DarksideBeforeDecaf · 2 pointsr/pics

Well, you can buy the seeds online. If you could find a grown bonsai it would be fairly expensive (and difficult to ship).
If you choose to buy the seeds, buy a pack of 10 or more. Some seeds don't take and if it does the plants take a lot of work. That's why they're so beautiful.

Edit:TIL Amazon has everything... they're 100 bucks. They'll automatically send you the best one they have in Stock and you can request pictures before purchasing.

Looks like you can buy seeds on Amazon (geez, what don't they sell). Offhand I didn't find anyone selling live plants.

I just found this sub and man I'm so excited!

Thanks for doing this!

Spiral vegetable slicer I love to cook and would like to cook healthier. Plus I could make some cool shapes and cut things out for the kids with food.

Corner plant/picture shelf I have some plants in my kitchen that help to brighten up the space, but they take up to much counter top space. Having this stand would help a lot.

live cup of catapillars I want to do this with the kids. It would be an awesome science learning experience. Plus butterflies!

Storage bins for food Love these things, we only have 2 of these that I got for free a couple of years ago. We need more for leftover food and to take food for lunches etc.

Thuja Green Giant Arborvitae trees Would love to have these in my backyard. We can't have fences where we live and these would help create a privacy screen from our neighbors. Plus they help the environment!

well I am 40 years old and never won any contest unless its the kind where everyone's a winner. If I was to win I would like to have this but anything you choose is fine. Just winning something would be enough.

u/Fuelingthebatchfire · 1 pointr/Bonsai

I've been lurking on this sub for a few months now and trying to research as much as I can about Bonsai. This weekend I finally found an acceptable starter sprout! Never knew it could be so hard to find a perfect sized tree.

Plant in Question

Anyways at the nursery it was labelled a Buddhist's Pine (Podocarpus macrophyllus). Can anyone verify this? Online they seem a lot different, but I'm hoping it's because mine are so young.

I already separated, trimmed roots and potted them, but the first picture here is kinda what it looked like when I got them. It had 5 shoots coming out of the soil. Another question, what now? Should I cut some shoots off?
