That's honestly a pretty heavy ask on your friend's part, especially on such short notice. Wes Anderson is known for a visual style heavily reminiscent of the mid-20th Century, with rather European bent. Rich textures, vibrant colours, vintage props showcased in loving detail, and symmetry, symmetry, symmetry. Every frame he puts on the screen is a postcard. His movies would honestly be totally insufferably twee if they weren't actually incredibly good.
If you google Wes Anderson style you'll see what I mean.
As for a party... I'd see if anyone you know owns a record player like this Crosley and get some old records from the 40s and 50s (if not soundtracks from Wes Anderson's films).
Don't buy a Crosley. It will damage your records.
This,
https://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-AT-LP120XUSB-Direct-Drive-Hi-Fidelity-Anti-Skate/dp/B07N3S4X3P?ref_=ast_sto_dp&th=1&psc=1
is a good starter table. The U Turn is great too. $200 is a big commitment, but anything less and its gonna sound like crap.
You get a hanpin clone, You get a hanpin clone, You get a hanpin clone; Errbady gets a hanpin clone.
AT LP-120
Edit: The LP-120 is awesome. Here’s a link they are on sale at amazon right now. Use the extra $$ to get some extra accessories like a scale, a brush, plastic sleeves for your records, maybe a cleaning kit, a cork or leather mat, etc
If i had that budget I would get these items:

I also like KEF speakers.
So I'm ordering one of these in every color? Got it. ;)
Thanks for the other specs to look out for, I'll keep them in mind. What's the deal with Crosley though? It's just some cheap shit or does it offend for other reasons?
Well...30 bucks can get you this:
Sylvania Turntable Record Player with USB Encoding. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KADVQV4/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_CwZRub1ZSYBRR
I have to second literally everything you just said. My girlfriend got me one of these turntables with the Thrice Alchemy Index and I absolutely loved it, but was worried what it would do to the vinyl over time. After a ton of research, I ended up with the Pro-ject bundle. The speakers also have Bluetooth, so when we entertain, that’s our music hub.
Edit: link Klipsch R-15PM + Pro-Ject Primary Turntable Bundle https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01FN28H2W/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_WSLzCbGBHQ3QR
Depends man, if ya just want to collect records recordstore.co.uk, tower records.
For turntables, for the love of god stay away from Crosley and any of the ones that look like little suitcases, 50's design etc, unless you're gonna play records rarely. They tend to damage the grooves on vinyl due to the needle heads being far to heavy.
Audio-Technica AT-LP60 USB Fully Automatic Belt-Drive Stereo Turntable https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00EUSMFPQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_1swfAbNJE9F98
AKAI Professional BT100 Bluetooth Enabled Premium Performance Belt-Drive Turntable https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01C8PSRTU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_NAwfAb1BTNJQG
These are pretty good starters, and won't wear out your vinyl collection.
Hey guys! I have a Victrola VTA-200B (link below). Sadly I didn't do my research when I bought my first record player and I got one with internal speakers, now I always run my record player through the external speakers I already own but the internal speakers can't be "turned off", I can turn them all the way down but can't shut them down they are just really quiet. This causes some interference and an odd sound distortion on the lighter records I own. Do any you have any ideas on how to shut off the internal speakers so that they dont cause vibrations anymore? Thanks a ton!

Is this all to use the onboard speakers on a $40 all in one record player? That seems like a huge waste of effort.

Also this thing already has bluetooth?
Also youtube spam.
While the Crosley isn't exactly a tool of Satan that will chew up your record in half a dozen plays, it's nowhere near high-quality either. There's a reason why it's so cheap compared to all those other turntables out there.
Quick rundown of how record players work: the record has grooves in which the stylus/needle sits. When the record spins, the needle is dragged through the grooves and vibrates. However, the vibrations are very tiny and need to be amplified, which is done by the cartridge that connects the needle to the tonearm. Moving magnet (MM) and moving coil (MC) cartridges make the vibration of the needle cause a magnet to move through a wire coil (or a wire coil around a magnet, respectively), which induces an electrical pulse. Ceramic cartridges, meanwhile, use piezoelectricity, which is where a vibration through a certain type of ceramic creates an electrical pulse. MM and MC cartridges also need a pre-amp to further boost the sound before it reaches the speakers, but ceramic cartridges don't, thus making them more appealing to market as an "all in one" unit.
Crosley Cruisers use ceramic cartridges instead of MMs or MCs, because they're significantly cheaper and allows you to forego the pre-amp. However, they require more tracking force (how hard the needle pushes down on the record) to get the same volume level. This means that they wear down records faster. It's not immediately perceptible, but if you use records on it frequently, then play it on a high-end turntable to compare, there'll be a visible dip in sound quality. This is also why it's bad to tape a penny to the head of a tonearm—it makes the sound louder for a ceramic cartridge, but also wears down the record more quickly.
Furthermore, Cruisers have several other design flaws: they don't have an adjustable counterweight (meaning you can't make it press down any lighter), the built-in speakers are mediocre, there's often a noticeable warble or variation to the speed, you can't close the lid while it's playing (the record hangs out over the edge), you can't detach the lid, and there's a risk of it tipping over. Its only real value that it has over other styles is the branding and retro aesthetic.
If you want to get it, ask yourself a question: are you on the fence about collecting records, or do you plan on seriously getting it? I'm sure that for plenty of people on this sub (me included), the Crosley was their gateway to getting interested in the hobby. So my advice is that if you have any certainty about collecting your records, save up your money a bit more and buy a more durable and higher-quality starter option like the AudioTechnica AT-LP60X. If you know you're gonna get into it, why buy a turntable that you're gonna immediately upgrade from anyway? Or better yet, check out thrift stores, Craigslist, ebay, etc. and see if you can get a decent turntable from the 70s or 80s for a good price.
TL;DR if you're not really sure at all if you wanna collect records, it's worth giving it a try. But if you know you're gonna collect records and are just wondering about your starter model, then skip it and go for something that you won't have to upgrade for a while.
Ok more money on speakers than source components is usually a general rule.
I just found this and freaked out then posted in another thread on amp versus preamp + amp versus receivers.
Unless you want surround sound or a radio tuner just get a good integrated amp used or otherwise. At your price point?
Cambridge Audio Topaz AM10 Premium Integrated Amplifier with Phono Stage for just $349 fuck that is a good deal.
http://www.amazon.com/Cambridge-Audio-Premium-Integrated-Amplifier/dp/B003VSFPGW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1396975785&sr=8-1&keywords=cambridge+audio+integrated+amplifier
Orbit, Carbon or RP1???
The Pro-Ject deck is great. The Pro-Ject Debut iii last year's model is on sale at MusicDirect for exactly $299 as well. I have this turntable and find it to be excellent and balanced and built solid like a brick wall.
But I wonder with the finicky little anti-skate weight and the changing speed by removing the platter and moving the belt if always suggesting the entry level audiophile choice is the right recommendation to be making to new folks.
I think the MusicHall USB-1 and/or the Audio Technica ATLP120 are totally underrated in these parts, easier to setup and have built in phono preamps as well not that you need that with the Cambridge amp.
http://www.amazon.com/Music-Hall-Turntable-USB-output/dp/B004EDXCFE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1396975985&sr=8-1&keywords=music+hall+usb-1
or
http://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-AT-LP120-USB-Direct-Drive-Professional-Turntable/dp/B002S1CJ2Q/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1396976017&sr=8-1&keywords=audio+technica+at+lp120
Those are both around $250. What you get is changing the speed with a button without having to move a belt around and easy to use pitch + anti skating controls, removable headshell for changing out cartridges easily and finally yes a cueing lever. They are not built quite as solid as the U-Turn or the famous Debut decks. But they are not cheapo and feel substantial if you ever spent time with them.
So that is $599 so far plenty of good money to buy a pair of decent speakers.
You can come in under budget and get a Stereophile magazine recommended pair of Klipsch Synergy B-20 bookshelf speakers for $179 on newegg here:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882780029
That is a good deal.
Or you can max out your budget and go for my favorite small speakers the Paradigm Atom Monitors:
http://www.designeraudiovideo.com/paradigm-monitor-series-7-atom-monitor.html?gclid=CM2D6PKt0b0CFTMV7AodOm8Arg
$199 each.
Or finally finally a pair of Wharfedale Diamond 10.1 speakers at $349 a pair which I have recommended before and tend to get high praise:
http://www.musicdirect.com/p-15476-wharfedale-diamond-101-bookshelf-speaker-pr.aspx
That is my view on building a total under 1k system capable of playing lps.
You got options man but the Cambridge Audio Integrated amp is golden.
I'm back... The turntable is literally already skipping. Ugh. What are you guy's thoughts on this one?
Ion
Tables in your budget:
Some other options to look at: Music Hall 2.2, Fluance RT81, TEAC TN-300.
>The cheapest player with the cheapest needle works great.
No. I have a $20 one right here.^1 It's absolute trash. The motor is too weak so it doesn't spin at a consistent rate, the needle is made of, like, a paperclip that scratches my records, and the cartridge is a hunk of plastic that sounds like wet garbage.
The sound of record players, being analog devices, are very dependant on the build quality. Digital devices reproduce audio with perfect fidelity on even the cheapest units. This is not debatable. Digital signals cannot have noise.
If you like vinyl for the art, or the nostalgia, or whatever that's great, but they produce objectively lower-quality audio, which I can measure on my oscilloscope.
if you’re wanting something user friendly and relatively cheap, i’d go with the audio technica at-lp60.
Audio-Technica At-LP60X-GM Fully Automatic Belt-Drive Stereo Turntable, Gunmetal/Black, Hi-Fidelity, Plays 33 -1/3 and 45 RPM Vinyl Records, Dust Cover, Anti-Resonance, Die-Cast Aluminum Platter https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07N3X7KPX/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_a22ZDbGTAWGW5
fully automatic and it comes with a pretty nice stylus. this was my main turntable for a while
whatever you do don’t get a crosley unless you want warped/scratched records
You might want to look for a turntable with counterweight and decent anti-skating. Just by looks of it (because I don't know this TT), this one lacks the proper characteristics (as can be read in the sidebar). In the sidebar you can also find some great budget set-ups.
If you're not hung up on vintage gear, and you just want to plug and play without figuring out what cart to get and how to replace and align it, there are definitely some good budget models to start with. Audio Technica springs to mind. But even the "better" manufacturers offer good TT's for just a wee bit more than this Sony. You might want to check this Music Hall, if having a USB output is important to you.
Check out this turntable: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B002GYTPB8/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1394466180&sr=8-1
You can convert your records into mp3 files with this turntable.
If you have a little more money check out the Music Hall turntables. They have adjustable weights and are generally better than the Audio Technica turntables. Here's one of the cheaper models: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B004EDXCFE/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1394466573&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX110_SY165_QL70
Check out /r/vinyl for more information. To be warned they can be a little pretentious.
I use one of those cheap USB ones and it works pretty well. I'll try and find the same model.
Edit: here it is http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B005A9ZYI4/ref=pd_aw_sim_sbs_23_of_42?ie=UTF8&dpID=41kUs5koPFL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_SL500_SR100%2C100_&refRID=1ZVR2ZP43DR9ZG77MACB
You can get the Pro-Ject Debut III here or the Pro-Ject Essential II here.
There's absolutely no need to buy a used record player. I burned myself buying a used one when I started. Anyhow. I'd spend most of that money on a turntable, so you have a good solid base to build upon in the future. A Pro-Ject Debut Carbon is juuuust within budget. Amazon It's quite a serious turntable actually. It has a carbon arm and a 2M Red cartridge, which itself can be easily upgraded to a 2M Blue in the future. Maybe you could find a good used Phono Box MM to go with that. I have one on my RPM 1 Carbon and I'm quite happy with it, despite usually being fairly reasonable. Having said that.. it's surprisingly expensive on Amazon in the UK, but they can be found on eBay. I'm afraid you just have to work with what you already got when it comes to speakers or headphones. Otherwise, a Essential may be a cheaper alternative. Amazon
It's $400 for the Debut Carbon. The Debut III on Amazon is $325 while the Essential is listed at $329, so it's actually cheaper to get the higher quality turntable, hah.
Debut III
Essential II
I have enjoyed the project line in the past. I had a project essential before. It is a pretty TT and it is simple. It would however require you to buy a amplifier or a preamp. It doesn't have any of the bells and whistles like auto stop and start. I think its around 200 quid.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/PRO-JECT-13205-Pro-Ject-Essential-Turntable/dp/B00DKSUHO8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1425330554&sr=8-1&keywords=project+turntable
Recently I bought a Denon DP-300F Fully Automatic Analog Turntable. It has a built in preamp if I wanted to use it and is fully automatic. I upgraded the needle to a Shure M97E and have fallen in love with it. In a way I enjoy it more then I did my Project turntable for ease of use.
http://www.amazon.com/Denon-DP-300F-Automatic-Analog-Turntable/dp/B000FMNBXG
Not sure if its for sale in the UK.
Personally I don't think you can go wrong with either. I do not have any experience owning a Audio Technica TT. Hope that helps.
Hi this may be a stupid question, but I've just bought a record player and I was wondering if there was a way to increase its volume output?
I've got the Audio-Technica AT-LP60 and my speakers are [Logitech Z623s]( Logitech 2.1 Speaker System Z623 )
The only way my vinyls play at a decent level is if I turn the volume up to max, but to get the same volume out of my TV, Xbox etc I only need it about 1/4 of the volume it's at.
Is there any way to change the volume/s or am I going to have to buy a whole new set of speakers?
I really want to get an antique, but that probably will be too expensive at this point
If I'm going to buy a new one I am eyeing this one
Going by Amazon prices, you're basically getting a free $260 turntable:
https://www.amazon.com/Klipsch-Sixes-Powered-Monitor-Walnut/dp/B01MZYT1RF
https://www.amazon.com/TN-300-Analog-Turntable-Pre-amplifier-Digital/dp/B00P9W6SUK
I ordered my first two
vinylsvinylrecords this week. You'll never guess what albums I went with.So as of now, I'm just getting records for the artwork. However pretty soon I would like to get a turntable. But I have no goddamn clue as to what to look for and what not to look for. I have a couple of videos I want to watch later on youtube about getting a turntable but their 20 minutes each so when I find some time ill watch them.
But for now, I would like your guys' help. Assume I know nothing about turntables (because I don't) and explain how to set up a turntable and that type of thing. Also cleaning records because that seems like a big part of it.
EDIT: I've been researching and it looks like the AT-LP60 is the best choice for beginners. Very good price and I've only heard good things. What do you guys think?
Klipsch R-15PM + Pro-Ject Primary Turntable Bundle https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01FN28H2W/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_omV-Ab2M60KRS
>I don't have a budget in mind but I also don't know what would constitute a decent deal. What kind of price point should I be looking at for mid-range stuff?
Do they have any vintage 70's receivers that they serviced for $150 to $300? Many have good phono preamps built in. What is your Craigslist city?
If not finding anything used: Refurbished stereo receiver, PIONEER SX-10AE
$149.99$119.99.Will you also be using the speakers with a TV for better movie and TV sound? Then consider an AV recevier.
Phono preamp if there isn't one build into the receiver: Taking the Guesswork out of Phonostage Gain. The ART DJ Pre II $67 has an adjustable gain dial. The popular Schiit Mani $129 has gain dip switches on the bottom.
Speakers: Bookshelf speakers on stands often have a smaller footprint than floor standing tower speakers.
$249$85 pair. Review by u/DieselWang and Video Review. Or maybe these towers are smaller than the ones in the shop, DCM TP260 2-Way by MTX Audio$399$149 pair.Speaker Placement for Stereo Music Listening
Speaker stands: Dayton Audio SSMB24 or Monoprice Glass. Sturdy Monolith by Monoprice Speaker Stands.
Speaker wire: Pure Copper Oxygen Free Speaker Wire or Basic Copper Clad Aluminum then 4 Ways to Strip Wire. Optionally add banana plugs. Already with banana plugs AmazonBasics buy 2 for a pair 12ft each.
For WiFi streaming audio, add to any used or new amp or recevier without it: Dayton Audio WBA31 $42 + shipping or from Amazon $53 Prime shipping, has app based WiFi streaming, Apple Airplay, DNLA and NAS compatibility and also Bluetooth as a backup. Or a Chromecast Audio $38 shipped from the UK.
If the Pioneer turntable does not work out: A new option if $400 was over your budget is the Fluance RT82 $299 with an optical sensor speed controlled servo motor (skip the older RT81 without it) or the popular Audio-Technica AT-LP120XUSB $249.

Here is one that will be better than your Crosley, for very cheap
It's just that the USB feature is more meant to be marketed on the same level as Crosleys. It's supposed to be a cool feature to make it sellable. So in the eyes of a consumer, it sounds like a good idea to be able to digitalize your collection for nostalgia/whatever.
The problem is that there's a lot of quality cutting as having a high quality built in preamp (basically what it is) is very hard to have at a low price point. There are USB turntables that aren't total crap, say the Pro-Ject Essential II Phono USB, but it certainly isn't worth a $100 increase from the list price of $300. So you end up with low end tables like this and this
https://www.amazon.com/ION-Profile-LP-Vinyl-to-MP3-Turntable/dp/B0029QRA1U mine is this is at least very similar. Found it at TJ Maxx for $40 hahahah
You're going to laugh at me but somebody gave me this one,
http://www.amazon.com/ION-Profile-LP-Vinyl-to-MP3-Turntable/dp/B0029QRA1U/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1343986502&sr=8-1&keywords=ion+turntable
It has an RCA output but I'm suspicious because I thought the output from turntable was some sort of special phono format that you need to plug into a mixer or other input specially designed for use with a turntable.
I'm not an expert on record players, but I've been happy with this one, an Ion. The best part (besides being cheap!) is that you can play it on ANY stereo that has audio inputs; lots of higher-end turntables require a preamp. While by no means THE BEST TURNTABLE EVERRR, it's done well for me. :)
I just got this one as a christmas present. It is a USB TT with a built in preamp which usually means poor sound, but has a counterweight so at least it wont damage records. It's half off on Amazon right now for $66.
What kind of TT do you have now? From my understanding 70's thru early 80's were the best years for TT's. You can find a midrange Technics for under a $100 on CL, Ebay, Garage sale, or a Thrift store.
It doesn't solve that problem, and it's expensive, but you can get a turntable that converts to MP3.
That one doesn't look good but it's an example.
Any opinions on the Music Hall usb-1 Record Turntable (https://www.amazon.com/Music-Hall-usb-1-Record-Turntable/dp/B004EDXCFE) as a secondary, cheap-but-not-too-cheap (office :)) turntable? It's not an audiophile environment, sound is output to semi-cheap PC speakers. I'm just looking for something with counterweight/not too much tracking force so that I don't damage my records (I wouldn't t want to play the Crossley/LP60 lottery).
To me it looks like the choices come down to the Music Hall player, the U-Turn Orbit Basic, and maybe the "House of Marley Natural Bamboo" (except that I kinda hate that design). Old 2nd-hand market players are probably out of consideration because I'm looking for a built-in preamp.
Music Hall is $50 cheaper than the Orbit Basic with preamp. Any opinions on not getting that one over the Orbit? The Orbit cartridge has a lower tracking force, but I don't think I'm worried about the AT-3600L on the Music Hall player. (I don't think I'd hear a difference between either cartridge on my office speakers.)
If you want to pay for something: Vinyl records(Amazon sells this record player for cheap ), CD's, or concert tickets, gift card to a store he likes.
If you want to make something here's things you can do, and also hip hop related.
Hip Hop Artist Paintings
Framed CD's
I usually do these "boxes" where I just fill it with random stuff. Last week I did two different ones that had things like: 2 or 3 CD's they liked, A T- Shirt(I like giving people wind breakers though), Stickers, a Hip Hop related card. I made one that said "Bish don't kill my vibe" and when you open it it had "because it's your birthday" another one that said "Sorry to interupt but __ had the best birthdays of all time" with tickets to a show/ wherever they like to eat/itunes gift card/or money, a pack of ironlak markers because backpackersss, and essencially rolling papers and little jar of cannabis. (I'm a girl so this is why it's so thoughtful lol) If not just the paintings, I can't draw but I like doing stencils on canvas, they look really nice.
Well basically a set up is puzzle you can build up over time. Planar 2 is a solid table that you wouldn't need to upgrade for years, don't know if it comes with a cover though. It is a solid table built around delivering the best sound from the cartridge to the amp. Now one big part of how your records will sound is the cart, the one the planar 2 comes with is totally fine for start but you will want to upgrade it pretty soon. I would recommend you to take a look at this Pro-ject Debut Carbon Esprit. Mainly because it is more bang for the buck imo (electronic speed switch and speed control, carbon arm, acrylic platter and a way better cartridge), but that is totally an opinion.
Now for the rest of the set up I would suggest buying the preamp separate. For example this Cambridge phono preamp is a solid starting point. There are two reasons for this, you can easily switch it to a new one down the line and you can get some money back for it.
The second one is that you can start by getting powered speakers, for example these Audio engine A5+ and down the line upgrade to an amp and bookshelf speakers. Powered speakers are a totally valid option nowadays and these will give a detailed sound with the table. They are also way easier to get your cash back when moving forward.
What I linked up there is a pretty solid setup focusing in sound for a pretty rough 1000 when done trough amazon.
> and can play 78 RPM which is nice
yes, though remember that those aren't vinyl, and require a separate stylus as well.
> Any other good recommendations to the LP100?
U-Turn Orbit is oft-recommended in the same price range. Much better preamp.
> Also, can anyone recommend supplies for cleaning records.
I'm cheap. I use: https://imgur.com/a/V3Tbn
> Budget: 700 or less
Whoa...OK. 700 is a considerably more healthy budget than a U-Turn orbit or LP120.

It’s a modified version of this one. So it’s a good deal.
Maybe because of the replacement needle, but BestBuy’s website has it used for ~$370. Make sure it is the same red cartridge.
Replied to him! One of these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AWB6C22
With some cheap eBay RGB LEDs under the acrylic platter!
Earlier today I went out to BestBuy and bought my first turntable! I walked in there planning on buying the Audio-Technica LP120. But I ended up buying this.
I have heard that this one is a really great table also (if it's not better), and I got it for $50 less than the LP120. However, I do have to wait about 6 days until it comes to my local store because it is a special order (none of the stores in the surrounding 250 miles have it either). I'm excited to have it come in and for me to start using it!
I'm looking to buy my first turntable and i'm wondering what people think about the Audio-Technica AT-LP60. Should i get it or do you recommend something else?
hello everyone, I am extremely new to vinyl and vinyl players and I would like to start collecting them and listening to them very frequently. Can you please give me some starter tips. Is this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00IGDHTXY/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pd_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=CXJSFYSB3B6R&coliid=I1ZS1Z3UJ4O239
a good starter vinyl player? what are some things I should know? what are some tips and tricks. Thanks to all who apply I really want to make sure I do this the right way
19 as well and oh yeah, Vinyl collecting is a ton of fun, 66 and counting for me, with my sick Victrola 3-in-1 that’s still hella cheap on amazon for how much value you’re getting in a player, I really suggest grabbing one of these if anyone reading this doesn’t have a player yet. That’s the cheapest color, but the others aren’t that much more expensive: https://www.amazon.com/Victrola-Nostalgic-Bluetooth-Turntable-Entertainment/dp/B00NQL8Z16?th=1&psc=1
Honestly it’s more of a 5-in-one, it’s got a turntable, a CD player, a Cassette player, it’s Bluetooth connectable, and it plays radio. 100% worth the 70.
Edit: never mind on that record player. I guess I’ve just been EXTREMELY lucky with mine apparently. Looking at the reviews, it’s gotten nothing but 1 stars in the last year. People having issues left and right to where it breaks within a few months. Mines been working fine for a little over half a year with no problem, but it looks like more people are having issues than not.
Don’t know what your price range is but I have this one:
https://www.amazon.com/Victrola-Nostalgic-Bluetooth-Turntable-Entertainment/dp/B00NQL8Z16?ref_=fsclp_pl_dp_6
I like it because it not only players records but has a CD player, Bluetooth connection and radio
My little Crosley unit works great, and even has a thumb drive port to rip records to MP3. It has built-in speakers, and an Extra speaker jacks in the back, so I have speakers around the room. It also plays cds and has an SD card reader. The record player does all 33,45,78 speeds
Or something like this new Victrola, which has Bluetooth capabilities
Victrola Nostalgic Classic Wood 6-in-1 Bluetooth Turntable Entertainment Center, Mahogany.
We bought the Audio Technica unit. Works great for us. Speakers? Thrift an amp and a pair of speakers, I'd say. A sound bar will work in a pinch, but... Yeah.
https://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-AT-LP60BK-USB-Automatic-Belt-Drive-USB/dp/B016YYFZS2/ref=mp_s_a_1_8?keywords=audiotechnica+record+player&qid=1568268679&sprefix=audiote&sr=8-8 this is a great starting point for vinyl (stay away from the "vintage" ones at your local target). As for CDs, any Walmart will have CD players for next to nothing. I started collecting CDs at a young age and have thousands now. Started my vinyl collection a few years ago and am slowly reaching 200 classic, decent condition records. If you do decide to start collecting, just remember to keep it in moderation, as it can get pricey, more for vinyl than CDs. Good luck! I hope you get inspired to go down the rabbit hole!
This one is the one I got.
Lol I also have a few of records that are just hanging on my wall as decoration I finally get to put them to use. I'm so excited.
I'm debating getting lifted tomorrow and just feeling all this music I got. I went for Orchestras and Jazz. Was looking for anything with soul. The first one I said yes to I got because it's a group of black guys smiling in different directions and a white guy STARING AT YOU.
I just got a Crosley C200a off Amazon for $190ish and, compared to the shitty Jensen ($40) I had, it's amazing. Crosley's suitcase players have a horrible reputation but I read every review I could find on the C200 and it was all positive and overall, for the price, it's a really good pick. No 78rpm setting and not automatic functions are the downsides, but I don't have 78's and I also enjoy dropping the needle. I'll probably upgrade the cartridge soon though. Good luck!
Edit: Here where I got it. And here is a review for it on turntablepros.com
Haha ' That's what I thought'. Brilliant.
Well I never said a functioning LP60 won't play your 'vinyls' did I? I said peoples concerns are legit which they are. I have no idea where you live so that is completely irrelevant to my point. If you think it's elitist to say a turntable isn't good then you are devoid of any logic. The only people that call this place elitist are people that want cheap easy solutions but get all butthurt because they don't get the answer they want. Boo hoo. I don't care about that video, I know the LP60 can adjust the speed. The build quality is still poor.
See you've come to this thread talking about being a stickler for quality, well the LP60 is nowhere near quality. You've got a small budget and can't buy used. Is that our problem? You're the one contradicting yourself, stickler for quality but won't listen to dozens of customer testimonies? Alight buddy.
Vinyl records are not cheap, you want to do things on the cheap. Do you not see the issue here? If I was you i'd probably save a bit more and go something like this:
https://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-PL-30-K-Audiophile-Turntable-Dual-Layered/dp/B00QLCYIKE/ref=sr_1_20?s=aht&ie=UTF8&qid=1502194065&sr=1-20&keywords=turntable
https://www.amazon.com/Crosley-C200A-BK-Direct-Turntable-S-Shaped/dp/B01AT3G2OU/ref=sr_1_31?s=aht&ie=UTF8&qid=1502194349&sr=1-31&keywords=turntable&refinements=p_36%3A1253506011
Look around, there is a fully auto Pioneer that maybe you should read up on for $120. You aren't getting quality at this price point though, which of course you are a stickler for.
How important is wireless going to be for you? While I don't doubt that there's a product that'll work for you, I can't think of one at the moment and I'm certain it's not going to sound particularly good.
Also I was mostly confused about the bluetooth record player part, do you already have a vinyl collection? It doesn't seem to make sense to buy a record player only to use bluetooth.
Quick Edit: Take a look at these Klipsch perhaps? Speakers themselves look like they'll be below budget, but if you want it with the matched turntable it'll be over. As far as these lifestyle speakers go though, Klipsch is the only one I can currently think of that's worth buying.
Got the klipsch Pro ject bundle, started getting into vinyl after the endless vinyl was announced haha, got some tips from the vinyl subreddit. That's how my desk looks like, this way I can use the speakers for both the vinyl player and my pc https://i.imgur.com/MODO3kQ.jpg
EDIT: https://www.amazon.com/Klipsch-R-15PM-Pro-Ject-Primary-Turntable/dp/B01FN28H2W this one, can't speak for the turntable as I don't have any reference but I love the speakers A LOT, they're amazing
The AT-LP2D is an older version of the AT-LP60, a newer version of which you can buy new for $89: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07N3X7KPX So, I don't think $60 for a two-generations-older used one is that great of a deal.
Another option could be this one new, it has a lot of the same features (no bluetooth, but built in pre-amp): https://www.amazon.com/Crosley-C100A-SI-Turntable-Adjustable-Counterweight/dp/B016OVYIK6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1480944646&sr=8-1&keywords=crosley+c100
or this one: https://www.amazon.com/Numark-TTUSB-Turntable-Interface-Output/dp/B000G3FNVM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1511224432&sr=8-1&keywords=numark+ttusb+turntable&dpID=41FM-1DKCiL&preST=_SX300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch
Now neither one will be amazing, but they're the right type of design and will be better money spent than the LP60 or that Sony.
It's popular because of its price, but it's not one of the best. I just don't think it has a place in a list of good turntables. A counterweight is not optional if you don't want to ruin your records over time.
The Pyle, which I didn't know, seems to be the best of the worse here.
Edit: if you want to feature a kinda-almost-decent turntable under $100, this Numark should do.
https://www.amazon.ca/Numark-TTUSB-Turntable-with-USB/dp/B000G3FNVM
It's on sale. Everything you need.
This one has worked wonders for me
Plugs right into a USB port and doesn't need an amplifier.
Yes, assuming you have a usb port that supports it on your computer, or alternatively, if you have an audio interface and a cable.
All you need is a turntable that either is usb, or if it isn't, any turntable and an interface with appropriate cables, FL Studio, and records.
Here's the cheap option that serves it's purpose well. I use it, and many others here do as well.
This is a way better TT for only $30 more: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000G3FNVM/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B000G3FNVM&linkCode=as2&tag=cuup-20
It can rip vinyl to your computer over USB and uses a DJ style cartridge (the piece that houses the needle) which can be replaced with something like this: http://rcm-na.amazon-adsystem.com/e/cm?lt1=_blank&bc1=000000&IS2=1&bg1=FFFFFF&fc1=000000&lc1=0000FF&t=cuup-20&o=1&p=8&l=as4&m=amazon&f=ifr&ref=ss_til&asins=B000GR1JCU
There is one on sale on Amazon right now.
Sorry about that, I'm typically a lurker, this is my first post. http://www.amazon.com/ION-Profile-LP-Vinyl-to-MP3-Turntable/dp/B0029QRA1U/ref=lp_3003611_1_23?ie=UTF8&qid=1368838815&sr=1-23
This is the turntable I was talking about.
If you are strict on the $300 budget then the best route (for new gear) would be to probably get:
You may be able to get a cheaper setup if you shop for vintage equipment on your local craigslist. At a minimum you'd need Table -> preamp -> speaker amp -> speakers or some variation of that(Powered speakers don't require an external amp and some tables have a preamp built in).
edit: If you want to get a table with a built in pre-amp I've seen a few people say good things about the Musichall usb1. Although it's not commonly recommended from this sub.
Music Hall USB-1 TT
Jamo Studio Series S 805-WH White Floorstanding Speakers - Pair
Sony STRDH190 2-ch Stereo Receiver with Phono Inputs & Bluetooth
Technical Pro IA1200 Pro Integrated Amplifier
Onkyo TX-8220 2 Channel Stereo Receiver with Bluetooth
used to own combo below, sounded good

i don't own this, but it got a Class D rating in Stereophile magazine an enthusiast publication for over 30 years.
http://www.amazon.com/Music-Hall-usb-1-Record-Turntable/dp/B004EDXCFE/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1419623125&sr=1-1&keywords=music+hall+turntable

It isn't part of the prime day sale, but the Music Hall USB-1 is on sale for $200 right now, normally $250.

I just got into vinyl, and this is the turntable I just ordered!! It is one of the recommended turntables in the Recommended New Turntables Under $500 section of this subreddit's Beginner's Guide to Vinyl, 2016 Edition.
this is what you're referring to am i right ?
And about the two options, i think i'd just go for the speakers for a start, are there any specific types of speakers that i should look into ? Also, i do already own 3 records and im looking forward to getting 4 more in the future, just my all time favorite albums and some of them have crazy visuals which is an added bonus
Record players are on a huge come back

I just prefer the old style big units :)
they are incredibly inexpensive these days

edit: just saw you said "quality" idk if 30$ is what you're looking for, but maybe it is idk.
You can do it yourself for $35 which will be less than a service: http://www.amazon.com/SOUND-VS-2002-SPK-Turntable-Built--Speakers/dp/B005A9ZYI4/ref=sr_1_7?s=aht&ie=UTF8&qid=1451677279&sr=1-7&keywords=usb+turntable
No I don't. I saw this on amazon but I don't the quality is good. But that's the idea that I'm looking for. Something like this even would work, just not sure if the quality will be there.
I found a $40 USB turntable called the Vibe Sound VS-2002-SPK USB that seems like it would be good for sampling. Has anyone else used it or know someone who has? Here is a amazon link to it.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B005A9ZYI4/ref=ox_sc_saved_image_1?smid=A12LN8IJ7NFEN8&psc=1
It can convert tracks to digital and it is belt driven, but I can't find anyone else who has used it specifically for sampling to know if it can be used for sampling.

I use just a standard Crosley Cruiser Portable and a lot of people don't like them cause they're "not the best" apparently but mine is fine, it gets the job done, plus it's pretty small so it doesn't take up a lot of room. The cheapest ones are on Amazon and have a ton of different colors.
( Link here:http://www.amazon.com/Crosley-CR8005A-TU-Portable-Turntable-Turquoise/dp/B00990Z4W6?ie=UTF8&*Version*=1&*entries*=0)
A portable record player. It would look soo good with my beetle convertible. Same color too.
Other than that, I like old movies and because most people haven't heard of them, there is not interest in getting them.
Show this gift some love.
I've always wanted a record player and to start buying vinyls. I hear the sound is better, and crisper. SO specifically this one.
True! And it's actually "not that bad" and it's portable -> http://www.amazon.com/Crosley-CR8005A-TU-Portable-Turntable-Turquoise/dp/B00990Z4W6/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1372864948&sr=8-6&keywords=crosley+record+player
I've seen the one I have for like $80 or less sometimes. The sound really isn't that bad, and it's nice to have because it does play my 45's better than my actual turn table.
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00990Z4W6
check this thing out -- http://amzn.com/B00990Z4W6
that has speakers built in.
amazon is a great website, ever heard of it?
Great question! So many options.
Used:
I think I would see if I could score an SL-1200, a pair of Yamaha NS-1000s or Pioneer HPM-100s, and spend whatever's left on the best receiver I could find.
New:
TT--Pro-Ject Debut Carbon DC Esprit. Or, perhaps better yet (if you're willing to go over budget), a base Debut Carbon DC and upgrade the needle to 2M Blue--no cartridge swap required!
Speakers--SVS Prime Towers from the SVS outlet. These consistently appear on "best speakers under $x" lists and they sound phenomenal for the price. They can be used without a subwoofer, and the trial period + warranty that SVS offers makes it risk-free to audition them in the room where you'll actually be using them.
Receiver--Assuming you've gone the Esprit route, you'd have $50 to play with on a $1,500 budget, which means you're still going to have to go used on the amp. I'd hit up as many Goodwills as often as possible in search of a good receiver. I've found several really solid units for $20-80 at Goodwill and other thrift shops. If you get the base Debut Carbon DC but decide to upgrade to Blue down the road, for about $200 I like the Yamaha RX-V line. Affordable, decent power, sounds nice, digital friendly, and would allow you to expand your setup to home theater at some point if you wish. Of course, that will necessitate the use of a phono pre-amp, but the ART DJpre II can be had for under $50 and it's great.
Looking into this guy. Would it be safe to go for the used option to save a few bucks or should I just get it new?
The only other recommendation I would make is consider if you want to/can save for the DC Espirit to have built in automatic speed change, better speed regulation, and an ugraded platter.
You can always add these features on after the fact with the base-model Debut Carbon; via a speed box and getting the acrylic platter to replace the standard metal one.
Up to $2000
I need a complete system. This will be used strictly for music in a 400ish sq ft family room. I want a turntable and the ability to use Bluetooth to stream music from the kids phones and possibly networked so that we can stream all of my FLAC files from my server.
Mid field most likely. This is a 400 sq ft room. Not looking to blow the doors off the walls, but able to listen clearly throughout the room. Also tile floors if it makes a difference.
I don't have any gear for this system yet, but have been looking at Pro-Ject - Debut Carbon Esprit SB turntable and I was also looking at Pioneer Elite SX-N30 receiver. Nothing set in stone and definitely willing to take recommendations. I have an Eddie Current Super 7 headphone amp and a set of HD 800's. I would love to match that kind of sound quality, but probably not on my budget.
Turntable and Bluetooth for now.
Music and as a family we listen to most everything. Classic rock, heavy metal and thrash, old country music, show tunes, musicals, classical, etc, etc.....
I don't mind buying new or used, but I live out in BFE and finding good stuff out here would probably be pretty time consuming.
I appreciate any and all help anyone can give.
Hi there! I'm a noob trying to get into LP's and I'm circling around this turntable: https://www.amazon.com/ION-Audio-Max-LP-Turntable/dp/B00COC61LO. Does anybody have any experience with this model or could anyone recommend an alternative in the similar price range? I don't need USB or any features for digitisation, just a quality player with a build-in speakers as a starting point. THANKS!
I honestly don't know. You mean to say I can simply buy any record player from Amazon.
sample 1
sample 2
Here’s the Amazon link.
This is my first turntable, so I can’t really rate it because I have nothing it compare it to, but I’d say it does the jobs well
There is a version with a built-in phono pre but the price is higher than buying the regular Essential II and the Pro-Ject Phonobox separately.
Essential II - £209
Phonobox - £39
With a built-in phono stage:
Essential II USB - £285
A lower cost option with a built-in phono stage would be the Elemental USB at £229. The downside to this one is that it is less adjustable in terms of tracking force and anti-skate which limits your cartridge options down the road.
Here's a system build for you that is as cheap as I would recommend:
https://www.amazon.com/Project-Essential-II-Turntable-Matte/dp/B00DKSUHO8/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1492784630&sr=1-1&keywords=project+essential+ii

Do NOT get a Crosley or an Audio Technica LP60. UTurn Orbit and the AT LP120 are OK alternatives. Or just go used via your local Craigslist.
Following some advice I got in here a while back, I held off for a while, but am now ready to start building a good beginner system. Currently, from reading reviews I'm looking at this set-up:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/PRO-JECT-13205-Essential-Turntable-Black/dp/B00DKSUHO8/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Acoustics-2020i-loudspeakers-bookshelf-Universal/dp/B006SYZEBW/ref=cm_rdp_product
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B007Y3OBF6/ref=twister_B008UT5O6S?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
My questions really:
Is this everything I need to get started (minus things like speaker cables obviously)?
Will this all work together? I know they're 4/6ohm speakers and an 8ohm amp that can also put out 4.
This setup isn't set in stone, but it is definitely around the price I am looking to pay unless I am actually missing a necessary component. Other gear suggestions of a similar price could also be considered.
Thanks
Is this one right here the one you're talking about?
I currently own a Bose Soundtouch 10 (https://www.bose.co.uk/en_gb/products/speakers/smart_home/soundtouch-10-wireless-system.html). If i buy an Audio Technica AT-LP60 (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Audio-Technica-AT-LP60-Automatic-Belt-Drive-Turntable-Silver/dp/B00EUSMFPQ/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1536255268&sr=1-1&keywords=audio+technica+lp60) will I be able to connect the turntable to the aux input on my speakers and will it sound good? Sorry if the question is really stupid im new to this and as far as I'm aware I should be able to use an adaptor to connect the RCA output on the turntable to the Aux input on the speakers but just wanted to check before I made any purchases! Any tips also appreciate
anything with a red cartridge like that is pretty bad
the reason people get a record player is for better sound quality, for that you need to go for something that isnt made for people who are not really into getting a collection.
check out this (its £100 here) if you wanna get anything less than that, its not worth it, the sound will be shit
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Audio-Technica-AT-LP60-Automatic-Belt-Drive-Turntable/dp/B00EUSMFPQ/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1496691572&sr=1-1&keywords=audio+technica+lp60
Thanks very much - very helpful. What do you think of these? I have no idea whether you can use a USB TT with a normal setup?

So I bought an old turntable (Numark TT 1650) but the sound quality on new vinyls isn't great, it seems to get more sensitive about exterior noises like closing doors etc.
What can I do to fix this issue? I don't think it's an issue with the stand since it's in a built for cupboard and it only happens on new vinyl?
If that's just the build and I can't do anything, would this be a good replacement player: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Audio-Technica-AT-LP60USB-AT-LP60-USB-Turntable/dp/B00EUSMFPQ/ref=sr_1_1?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1453246086&sr=1-1&keywords=AUDIO+TECHNICA+turntable
Like I said it works fine just not on my new pressings and if I get a new player it'd need to not have this issue also
It's a radio/record player combo that I bought on Amazon. I think it was $40 when I bought it. here it is
It's been a good little player so far.
I bought one for my husband off amazon and he really likes it!
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00IGDHTXY?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf
Not sure if you're still looking, but I use the Jensen JTA-222. I've had it for almost 3 years now and aside from replacing the needle from general wear, it's held up really well.
The reason I bought it was because I knew it wouldn't ruin my records, always check the tracking force before buying a fixed weight arm.
It won't sound good with the built in speakers, so I'd recommend getting some nice speakers to go with your new player.
For college you can't go wrong with this bad boy
If you like music invest into one of these-can't speak to quality of this specific one and get THIS record!
Shit missed the tea remark- check this place out for awesome Fing tea! - I recommend this and THIS
Ooh and if you spot this anywhere fight for it!!!
http://www.amazon.com/Jensen-JTA-222-3-Speed-Turntable/dp/B00IGDHTXY/
A turntable used for travel is a bit tough. I don't think that many are made, with the exception of Crosley which has a pretty bad reputation.
If portability and cost were the two main factors I would probably grab one of these and a portable speaker. I have no idea how good/bad these products are but that's where I would start.

I have an old record player(which is dead, sadly), which was an all-in-one with a large hardwood cabinet. I'd like to retrofit the old cabinet with a modern turntable, speakers and a tube amp.
I'm looking for a turntable which will fit right now, and I have a dimensional constraint- the turntable can only be 14" deep. It can be up to 26" wide, and as tall as you like, but the cabinet is only 14" deep(IE if you are looking straight down into the chamber, the turntable can be very wide along the x-axis, but we only have 14" to work with on the Y-axis).
What is a good, high quality turntable that is 14" deep or less?
There is plenty of space elsewhere in the cabinet for the amplifier, pre-amp(if necessary), and for good, modern speakers. The cubby for the most important component just has an annoying constraint, and one which is hard to search for. I'm looking now, and it seems that TEAC has a few models in that size range, but I have not heard great things about their products.
https://www.amazon.com/TN-300-Analog-Turntable-Pre-amplifier-Digital/dp/B00P9W6SUK/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1498767102&sr=8-2&keywords=TEAC+turntable
So, at 13.4 x 16", this will fit easily, for example.
Any help and recommendations will be appreciated!
Here are a few well-rated options:
Teac TN 300 - $260+ (built in phono preamp)
U-turn Audio Orbit Basic - $180-$250 (you can choose to have an integrated phono preamp if you want, but you are going to need one if your receiver/ amp lacks one)
There are also some from Audio-Technica and Pro-Ject, and it's good to consider those options, too. Just do your research with whatever you choose before you buy. Good luck and give us an update with what you end up doing!
Hey Guys, I'm trying to create a some-what cheap and MODERN set up for myself with multiple use (but limited channels in the receiver, so I found a receiver with Bluetooth option) and high convenience... Am I missing anything? Or is there anything I should add?
Cheap Bluetooth w/ Limited Channels Receiver
Turntable, and I really love this one.... Really Jacks Up Price
Speakers that come with wire, but adding a spool from amazon anyways...
Wire and Plugs
Do I need anything else? Hi-Fi amp or something? The turntable comes with a phono-preamp and the speakers look decent and are at my price range. Any tips on how to set this up as well? Including the best way to use the plugs or if I should get different plugs.
With the current prices of this post, the overall price is... $462.88 USD and W/O the turntable, it is $213.88 XD
Replacement Turntable that is affordable which puts the new price at $298.88
SIGNIFICANTLY better: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00P9W6SUK/

Out of curiosity, is this: (https://www.amazon.com/TN-300-Analog-Turntable-Pre-amplifier-Digital/dp/B00P9W6SUK/ref=sr_1_4?s=aht&ie=UTF8&qid=1479174325&sr=1-4&keywords=amp+turntable) worth it?
This one here. I knew it was trash from the beginning but it was a birthday present from some good friends of mine.
I want to get a record player for my girlfriend, but on the guide of recommended entry-level players there are no recommendations below 100 dollars and I really can't afford anything more than 60 dollars. I have been mostly looking at a Victrola like this. I have heard that the speakers aren't great, but I expected that from a all-in-one below 100 bucks. Is there anything better I could get for a comparable price? Does anyone have experience with this particular record player and is it worth buying?
I mean if you don’t care THAT much about like “hmmmmph the Bass has to be strong and the treble needs to be just right and there needs to be a wholesome sound”
And are instead looking for an affordable way to play records and enjoy the aesthetics of owning and listening to records, I have this player and apparently (according to a friend) it’s not the BEST quality but I (not a connoisseur of music, but a musician myself that understands nice sound) I think it sounds fine enough to enjoy
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00UMVW4VA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_ydM3BbC13E43Z
Nice things:
It’s got a nice lil handle and comes with a power cable and built in speakers and can use those speakers to play audio from Bluetooth, the turntable, or an aux cord, has three speed settings, and automatically stops (if you don’t want to play the speakers loudly there’s always the headphone port as well)
Breakability:
As a side note if you do buy this one, be careful with the lever that you can use to lift the stick that holds the needle (pardon my terminology) because I actually broke mine pretty quickly (it’s not bad quality or anything, I was just an idiot and like latched the needle down on its stand (because it has a latch for the needle for travel purposes) and left the latch closed and then used too much force to try to push the lever that lifts it and now I can’t use the lever and I have to manually lift it when I want to take it off a record which I think is less safe for records but OH WELL
All in all this record player is acceptable quality for leisurely usage and I recommend it but with a little bit more care than I’ve put into mine; best of luck and anyone else that reads this can argue if they’d like, I think it’s a nice and one of the most affordable solutions for someone like me (or at least it was when I was shopping around for a player)
My friend got one like this when he first started and then he bought a really nice one that's not mobile so I'll probably just buy his old one from him. Don't really know enough about them to know which ones are good or not
Hello, I'm new to the vinyl world so any help you can provide would be appreciated.
I was recently gifted one of these Victrola turntables and I have a few questions:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00UMVW4VA/ref=twister_B06Y1J4SJX?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I know they aren't of the highest quality, but I was wondering if I could safely make due with this table while sourcing a higher quality setup without worrying about damaging my records. Is there any chance I'm doing permanent damage playing my family's old records on this Victrola table?
On a separate note, can anyone make needle replacement recommendations for a Philips 312 turntable?
Thanks!
Well I might as well get these since I cant get good quality with my full budget going new.

I just bought a player on Amazon, and here is the link to the specific player.

This is the only record that does this. It’s also not scratched. It’s a two disc LP and it both discs do it. Lastly, the record is a 33 and 1/3 RPM, which is what the player is set to. Any ideas? It almost seems like the chorus skips more than the rest. Here is the link to what is happening. TYIA

I have this turntable: https://www.amazon.com/Technica-AT-LP60BK-Automatic-Belt-Drive-Turntable/dp/B008872SIO/ref=sr_1_3 and it works great. It has a built-in pre-amp, which is very convenient.
If you'd like to rip the vinyl to your computer, you'll want the USB version: https://www.amazon.com/AT-LP60BK-USB-Automatic-Belt-Drive-Turntable-USB/dp/B016YYFZS2/ref=sr_1_3
As for speakers, I highly recommend these Edifier speakers: https://www.amazon.com/Edifier-R1280T-Powered-Bookshelf-Speakers/dp/B016P9HJIA/ref=sr_1_1 They are powered and produce a really full sound. You'll even see my review on Amazon, look for the Avett posters. :)
If you want to spend a bit more cash, my friend has the Bluetooth version: https://www.amazon.com/Edifier-R1700BT-Bluetooth-Bookshelf-Speakers/dp/B016PATXSI/ref=sr_1_3
not sure how much you’re looking to invest but definitely don’t buy anything cheaper than this https://www.amazon.com/AT-LP60BK-USB-Automatic-Belt-Drive-Turntable-USB/dp/B016YYFZS2
it’s the best bare bones and easy to use starter record player. never buy anything with built in speakers
I had an old Bang & Olufsen turntable that no longer works. I was looking to get a new turntable for around $100 and have a question.
I found this one: Original
Then I found the same one with a $100 modification: Modified
If anyone can explain the $100 value in this modification and give advice on which one is the better purchase, it would very much appreciated! Also if anyone has any better ideas for a turn table around this budget that would be great.
are either of these any good? 1 2
also I can't really find a difference between the two...how much of a step up from the first one would the second one be?
I'm trying to keep it cheap for right now. Maybe I should go with the audio technica for a beginner turntable. I noticed the the needle moves automatically with button presses but can I still move it manually?
Also I don't see an headphone out on these but what do you think for $100? https://www.amazon.com/Edifier-R1280T-Powered-Bookshelf-Speakers/dp/B016P9HJIA/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1536357373&sr=8-6&keywords=active+speakers
i'd like to keep a whole set right now in the 200 range til I learn more
edit: Look into the post for good turntables to buy and might dish out an extra $100 for this crosley https://www.amazon.com/Crosley-C200A-BK-Direct-Turntable-S-Shaped/dp/B01AT3G2OU/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&amp&qid=1480944646&amp&sr=8-2&amp&keywords=crosley+c100
Is the Crosley C200A a good idea to get, it seems to be the best one in my price range but I'm a little worried with it being Crosley. If it is a good idea would I need a receiver as well? I'm still a little confused with all that.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01AT3G2OU/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1506267946&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=c200+crosley&dpPl=1&dpID=41Sql8DRftL&ref=plSrch
This one. I believe it is the latter. Is the phono preamp it has fine for my setup?
Its pretty nice. Seems to be the OEM of the lp120 without the 78 rpm. I got mine for $80 last August. I think it was a pricing error on Amazon. Only issue I have is that the plastic lid (dust cover?) scratches insanely easily.
Uturn Orbit turntable is a pretty good entry point. Or try a powered speaker bundle like the Klipsh R15PM / Pro-Ject bundle.
Thoughts on this Amazon deal? Seems like it saves a ton of money for a newbie and delivers a pretty high end experience: Klipsch R-15PM & Pro-Ject Primary Bundle
I thought this was a pretty cool startup bundle. I'm a sucker for Klipsch though https://www.amazon.com/Klipsch-R-15PM-Pro-Ject-Primary-Turntable/dp/B01FN28H2W
Hello friends. I've been a vinyl collector and listener for about 2 years now, and I'm finally looking to move towards a more advanced set-up. Here's my current player: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01K9ER5L8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1.
I haven't done an extraordinary amount of reserach, but I'm really interested in getting an Audio-Technica, specifically I've been looking at the LP3: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MRDMKG5/_encoding=UTF8?coliid=I1BUH46KY8R8R5&colid=1EJXO93Y8SK8S.
I've also been looking at these speakers: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B016PATXSI/_encoding=UTF8?coliid=I2BE3IGG8CFF7J&colid=1EJXO93Y8SK8S, because I really want to focus on a wood style with my whole set-up as much as possible.
Is it possible for these two pieces to work without any other parts? I would love to hear anything you guys know about these products or any other advice you have for a newby like myself. Ideally, I would put my budget at around $400-450, but if I needed a receiver, etc. I'd bump it to $600-650.
Hey yall - Pretty new to vinyl (and reddit), was wondering if someone could answer some questions?
For reference, I have this turntable
I've seen 1byone on a "Do not buy" list here on /r/vinyl, which worries me. Greatly. With this in mind, hopefully my questions can be answered.
I appreciate the help, thanks in advance!

Last Christmas, a buddy gave me my first turntable, seen here:

As a first timer, I’ve spent the last 10 months buying both classic and new vinyl albums, embarking on my first RSD stakeout, etc. But now I’ve discovered this brand on the do-not-buy list in this forum. Have I been torturing the albums I’ve been playing? Do I need to be looking at replacement parts? A new TT?
I couldn't find any decent quality ones in my area, closest one that looked cleaned up was about a hour away but I managed to find some turntables that interested me on Amazon

Thanks for the response! Just to clarify, would something like the Crosley only damage records when used heavily, or is it just really bad on the records in general? I can't imagine my fiancee will turn this into a hobby; it'll probably just be something she'd love to have on during lazy saturdays or while company is over. So she's what I would consider a very casual listener. If only a small amount of usage wouldn't damage the records, then I think she wouldn't mind (and would probably prefer that I save the money anyways). I totally understand, however, if you think that kind of player is crap though. I think a player like this one looks very classy, and might be better. I'm unsure. If you know of any good products that look similar to this, I would love to check them out.
Hey.

I am new to Vinyl and I'm looking to get the same turntable ( https://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-AT-LP120XUSB-Direct-Drive-Hi-Fidelity-Anti-Skate/dp/B07N3S4X3P/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=lp120xusb&qid=1562909981&s=gateway&sr=8-1 ) or if you have a recommendation for a step up from this. What would you recommend?

Also I think that the setup below that you recommended could work for me since I have a smallish room right now and I would upgrade later on.

A step up from the Edifiers is ONKYO TX-8020 $99 with:

I'm assuming I'll need the wiring for the speakers that amazon sells as a bundle correct?

I also saw these https://www.klipsch.com/products/r-51m-bookshelf-speaker

Also what exactly does the ONKYO receiver do and is it needed? Is there a better setup that does not require it or is it needed?

Any help would be appreciated =). Thank you.
A good entry level turntable I will recommend is the Audio-Technica LP-120. Audio-Technica is a pretty reliable brand. They also have an LP-60, which is pretty much a cheaper version of this one.

Hi - Need help deciding as i'm new to the vinyl world and am not confident in what I'm choosing. Looking for a relatively budget/simple set up for the room/small living room. Trying to stay under 400 for the whole thing. Prefer the powered speakers as I've had bad experiences with cheap pre-amps. Looking to make speakers bluetooth compatible via Echo Dot.
Appreciate the advice - here's my options:
Fluance RT81 w/ Ai40 Speakers - $400
AT LP120X - $400
Fluance RT82 - $530
Orbit Plus - $550
Eh, it's fine. You'd probably be better off just buying them individually... and getting the new version of that table, the AT-LP60X... and maybe save a hundo or so by getting these Edifier speakers.
Here are some cheap speakers and cheap player. That's as starter as it gets.
Hey, this is the turntable I use, sound quality is great, obviously not the best record player out there but if you're a casual music listener like me I recommend you start with this
This is the turntable I have atm:

Would you recommend just selling this on and purchasing a new LP Turntable?

hows this?
I think I may have found it... though I don't mind spending a few bucks something a bit more... reasonable.
edit: this is more what I'm looking for...
Hey everyone, beginner here. I'm looking for some entry level equipment and was wondering what you guys think of this:
I saw in the recommended turntable list the Crosley C100A and the Crosley C200A and i'm thinking of pairing one of them with the Edifier R1280DB powered bookshelf speakers and i'm wondering if anyone has any experience with these?
I have a small space and i like the optical input so i can also use them with my TV, they seem to have great reviews, i'm just wondering what you guys think for someone looking for an all-in-one solution on a budget (budget hasn't been determined yet but i'm thinking less than $500)
Thanks everyone!
Hi, I am looking to get into the vinyl scene. I found this bundle deal on amazon, it is a Pro-Ject primary turntable paired to a set of Klipsch R-15PM speakers. Here is the link. https://www.amazon.com/Klipsch-R-15PM-Pro-Ject-Primary-Turntable/dp/B01FN28H2W/ref=pd_cp_23_1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_p=ef4dc990-a9ca-4945-ae0b-f8d549198ed6&pf_rd_r=EYNV7WX72C9C7E9NYRAT&pd_rd_wg=nPyQd&pf_rd_s=desktop-dp-sims&pf_rd_t=40701&pd_rd_w=R5S1h&pf_rd_i=desktop-dp-sims&pd_rd_r=3b72a4d8-eecf-11e8-9fce-e3b457f31c52&pd_rd_i=B01FN28H2W&psc=1&refRID=EYNV7WX72C9C7E9NYRAT. This is the about the most that I'd like to spend on a combo, I was wondering if anyone has had any good/bad experience with these products in the past, and if you'd be willing to share. Opinions, reviews, etc. Anything anyone has to say will be taken in, thanks a lot in advance. I would also be looking at recommendations for a first time record player/turntable that is a good price.

This is the one i bought. Ive hsd it for about 5 months now and i love it. I know next to nothing about turntables tho, but the sound quality is pretty good and its super easy to use :)
The hardest price point to buy a new TT is in the $100 to $250 range. For $100, the best thing you can get is an AT-LP60 and the great redditors of r/vinyl will tell you not to get one, check the side bar, and buy vintage. That's good advice for budget spending; however, you could spend weeks searching craigslist or scouring pawn shops. My local craigslist tends to be lacking in selection and is overpriced. For $250, it's the AT-LP120 which is generally well received, but not very cheap.
Using Amazon, the Numark TTUSB or the Stanton T52B may be options that are a step up from the AT-LP60.

I know turntables like these are frown upon around these parts, but it's a good beginner turntable imo. The build in speakers are good, but don't expect Beats quality lol. I own one and enjoying every minute of it.
Vinyl is meant to be listened to on a turntable. If you rip them, you won't be nearly as satisfied than if you bought a CD copy or an iTunes copy.
Don't even consider doing rips on cheap turntables like Crosley's or this.
Sorry if I'm sounding harsh, but ripping vinyl is no easy task either. You have to babysit the whole process to make sure it doesn't skip, etc. When it's done you will want to remove cracks/pops, hisses, etc. That distorts the audio slightly.
