Glasses wearers! I've been arguing with myself for a while now to wear my glasses when I go out running. I see double without mine, so wearing them all the time is preferable. However, sweat makes them shimmy down my face, which distracts and annoys me, and makes it difficult to breathe through my nose.

I bought these silicone temple grips. Oh my goodness, my first run with them was amazing. My glasses didn't budge. I forgot I was wearing them other than when they fogged up.

I just got a shipment of a couple of different anti-foggers to try out, too. Hopefully next week I'll have a solid recommendation for you guys in that regard.

u/po1ymath · 17 pointsr/LifeProTips

Buy one of these and you can read while laying flat on your back. They're called prism glasses and yes, I have a pair :)

u/Practical_Sound · 15 pointsr/loseit

My glasses used to do this all the time. A surgery resident I was working with introduced me to these and I've never looked back: Silicone Anti-Slip Holder for Glasses.

You can grab a 400 pack (or less, 400 is a lot) of
https://www.amazon.com/Zeiss-Pre-Moistened-Cleaning-Wipes-Count/dp/B01E9NC2Z4/ref=sr_1_6_s_it?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1500752551&sr=1-6&keywords=lens+wipes

The reason I don't like microfiber cloths too much, is that they retain all the dirt and oils you'll be wiping away. So after some time it will lose its effectiveness.

u/Endlessxo · 6 pointsr/3DS

Strictly regular N3DS.

Background: At the time of this post, there is absolutely nothing on Amazon for N3DS accessories aside from the cover plates (GG two day shipping). This is the culmination of my research after lurking /r/3DS and Google.

Case

  • Shit tier ($0 - $1): Walk inside your local Sunglass Hut or Lenscrafter (or message Warby Parker customer rep online). Ask if they have any microfiber pouches. These pouches will most likely fit your N3DS. Very, very pocketable.

  • I'm going with a 3DS XL case tier ($10): Easily found on Amazon.. 3DS will fit, but it will slide around. The issue with using a 3DS XL case is that there's a lot of wasted room and makes carrying the 3DS bulky. On the bright side, you can carry your charging cable on the edge.

  • eBay-ing from Japan tier ($15 - 30): If you're willing to wait 2 weeks for your case, you can find a variety of hard cases on eBay. The key is to know how to search eBay. Do searches with the arguments (-XL, -LL, +New, +N3DS) to narrow down the clutter.

  • Money is no object tier ($59): The holy grail of 3DS cases, CitySlicker. Leather exterior, mesh pouch for your cable, 3 slots for your 3DS games, and relatively thin. Looks amazing, San Francisco based company.

u/hopped · 6 pointsr/Denver

I don't have a local physician recommendation, but I can tell you that using the best eye drops post-surgery is critical.

I used these as often as my eyes needed them (as often as every 15 minutes for the couple of days post-surgery). They're very expensive, much more expensive than the big bottles, but you're spending $4k on the surgery don't cheap out on the drops. :)

Best of luck - 5 years later it's the best money I've ever spent and I still have 20/15 vision.

u/PA2012 · 3 pointsr/ReviewThis

I second this info. I worked for optometrists for several years and that is also what they all said. It is always good to get an eye exam, but here are some tricks you can try before spending too much money: 1. Take a short break for 4-5 minutes every hour to look away from your screen and bink/close your eyes. 2. Get some eye drops like Optive, Blink, or Systain Ultra (my favorite) and use them during those breaks (at least 3 times a day, more if needed). If you live in the US you can get these at a local drug store, and probably get a smaller/cheaper size to start out to see if it helps.

I actually bought some from Amazon last week, and I have been cautiously testing them out. This means I overstepped the two hour mark by up to 20 minutes. So far, so good. I am off from work all next week so I will
do more in depth testing then, when there's no risk of impacting my work.

I'll post the link to the glasses I purchased in a few.

I've tried a lot of techniques for keeping my regular glasses from sliding down. (They're just a bad fit, no matter how many times I've gotten them readjusted at the store, and I have an oily nose which helps nothing.) Adhesive nosepads have worked the best for me - something like this. I don't love them because you can see a little sliver of nosepad if you look closely while I'm wearing them, and I need to replace them every 2-4 weeks, but they're the only thing that has made my glasses tolerable until I can get a new pair.

u/ArcticMonkeysFan · 3 pointsr/cscareerquestions

I use these glasses from Amazon for when I'm on the computer.

I also use these lubricating eyedrops (I have dry eyes from Lasik). A bottle can last me anywhere between 4-6 months.

The glasses, eyedrops, and flux (as others have mentioned) together make a world of a difference. I wouldn't be able to go on the computer for so long without them. I really recommend to give the three a try!

u/backseattoaster · 3 pointsr/GirlswithGlasses

If you get these https://www.amazon.com/GMS-Optical-Comfortable-Silicone-Anti-slip/dp/B00DUWLI8S they will help prevent your glasses from slipping down your face and are hidden behind your ears so they aren't even noticeable

u/Lyrle · 2 pointsr/POTS

That sounds awful. Kudos to you for getting through your work days.

For diagnosis, is the doc who gave you the beta blocker working with you to get an official diagnosis?

For the blood pooling, have you tried a footstool? Or for the light flickering, sunglasses? There are pricey ones specifically for fluorescent lights but you might try cheap dollar store ones to see if a certain brand helps. I know the helpfulness of these things varies widely, but if you have an opportunity to try I hope you get at least some small relief.

Are you working on any exercise program? I imagine you are completely wiped out on your off-days, but if you can do even very gentle stretching or leg exercises while lying down on a regular basis it can add up to a big difference over weeks or months.

The shakiness and the dazed-vision are pretty common in POTS. They are not risk factors for anything (no seizures!) and so apparently aren't interesting enough to study. They are definitely scary and debilitating and I am sorry you are experiencing them so regularly.

I hope you have some positive things happen to you today!

I found these to be a much cheaper version, better design than the dorky/bulky construction ones. A bit too good to be driving with. A good blue/green blocker will block all the light, so you won't see a green signal. That's your street test. A lot of glasses out there don't do what they say (but might be useful for driving at night).

F.lux is really good, though Iristech blocks more of the the spectrum that ought to be. However, f.lux is ineed the free one, and not bad in and of itself.

Unfortunately no magic hack just yet. Some people suggest setting the bridge of the nose with lots of powder, or using an eye primer, or just skipping foundation on that spot. As someone who wears glasses every day I've tried them all and it's just something you have to live with 🤷🏽‍♀️

I bought these off amazon to keep them from slipping down my nose and while it did reduce transfer, they can get quite uncomfortable after some time :/

I use Bausch & Lomb Clens. It's the stuff Apple uses to clean screens at their stores. Comes with a cloth, spray bottle, and a few portable wipes. Available at Amazon here.

u/shitinmycoatpocket · 2 pointsr/lifehacks

As someone who used to work in optics the best thing to do is to go to your opticians and ask for them to be adjusted, this will stop them slipping.

If you put them on your head when you are not using them then don't! this spreads the sides apart meaning that they wont fit snug to your head and will slip.

Another thing try and make sure you take them off with two hands and pull forward, when taking off with one hand it tends to again bend one side out.

Also you can get these, they work very well:

I wish I had a good answer. I struggle with a version of this myself. I am fine all day but use eye drops at night and any time I wake up in the middle of the night.

My doctor says mine is dry eyes from digital eye strain. He says he can see the dry cracks on my eyes.

Sigh.

Do you think it’s the lack of sleep or are those other hours spent staring at a lot of blue light?

Here’s what I’m doing:

Phone on warm all the time. F.lux in my computer.

Bulletproof Eye Armour.

Microwavable Eye Mask for Moist Heat

Eye Drops with oil in them

Eye Ointment

I use this at night.

And Gunnar blue blocking lenses.

Sigh. It all helps a little and nothing has made it all go away.

My eye doctor recommends the miBo eye treatment and I’m seriously contemplating it. I live in a small town and it’s a hour each way so I haven’t quite gotten around to it buts it’s been bad enough lately I’m about to get my buns in gear. Each treatment is $150 or 200 but he does a package that is normally $600 for $450 for upfront payment. I can’t recall if it’s 3 or 4 treatments. Not covered by insurance.

Hope some of this helps. Good luck.

The only thing I haven't seen around here is to bring individual use eye drops. My GF got lasik a couple years ago so she needs these things, especially w all the dust.

Thought only she'd use em, but our whole group was pretty amped to lube up the eyeballs, so we kept the box in the locker for all to use.

I had TONS of things in common with my match. She likes lisa frank and I like lisa frank. She likes adorable necklaces and so do it! She likes kinder hippos and I love those damn things!! They are on one of my wishlists. She wants this and I bought that exact same set on 01/30 of this year. She likes Rachael Ray and that is my favorite cookware set. I have her plates in green! She likes colorful knives, guess who bought that set back in March? She has contacts and I have contacts! I just added that to my wish list too. She likes makeup and I love makeup. Those brushes are amazing, btw. She also had quite a few makeup items that I liked, but I wasn't about to link all those. Ditto with books!! My random person is pretty awesome.

>But a move?

Yes, it happened to me.

>And are there any remedies beyond warm compresses and eyelid cleanser?

I struggled with it for about a year... what finally did the trick was using this product for about a month. Got it under control then finally fully disappeared after a month or two extra of use. Never had it again since. They also have the plus version which is for more severe cases. The "Plus" version can be kept on, while the normal version needs to be washed off. Think they also have some eyelid wipes which contain the formula in it but I never tried those.

Anyway, strongly recommend you try that product - the reviews speak for themselves and I personally vouch for it.

Good luck, Blepharitis is a fucking shit condition and when it's really bad makes you look like shit and feel like shit, I hated it to the max.

I currently wear disposable contacts that are meant to be worn for 30 days (days only, not to be worn while sleeping.)

I can routinely wear the same pair for 1.5-2 months. The contacts get noticeably thinner, and will feel scratchier and scratchier as time goes on. I typically wear them until I tear them, or they just feel too irritating.

I've also found using an overnight solution that includes hydrogen peroxide helps extend the life of the lenses. I typically use the Target brand version of this stuff by Clear Care I was completely unable to find any solution with hydrogen peroxide while in the UK, so this may be a US thing...

u/vespa59 · 1 pointr/Dryeyes

Just posting an anecdote for anyone else who stumbles on this thread:

I've had a bad dry eye situation developing in my left eye for a few months. It's most likely due to a chalazion or blocked duct that's caused some inflammation. The eyelid doesn't close properly so the eye dries out while I'm sleeping. The lump in the eyelid also puts some pressure on the eye. For a while, when I'd wake up it would feel like someone was ripping a piece of duct tape off my dry eyeball. It would burn and sting for an hour or so before I could properly function. I got it sort of under control by doing regular warm compresses and sleeping with a headband over my eyes in such a way that it put just enough pressure on the lid to help keep it closed tightly. I've also been using Systane gel or ointment overnight. I've gone back and forth between the headband and this hydrating sleep mask. With all that I was still having flare-ups a couple of times a week when I'd wake up. I found that a cold compress (damp washcloth with water as cold as possible) helps with the pain. My eye seems to put off a LOT of heat when it's irritated. Oh, I also take 1000mg of fish oil in the morning and another 1000mg right before bed.

Last week I had a really bad flare-up in the middle of the afternoon not anywhere close to when I'd been sleeping. The compress only helped a little bit. It was burning like fire and it felt like there was a gigantic splinter or something in my eye. It finally calmed down after an hour or so but it was low-level burning the rest of the day. The next day it started up again in the morning and took hours to get under control and continued to burn for most of the day. That's when I found this post.

I started the regimen described in the link on Friday morning and have been doing really well so far. I saw my cornea doctor this morning (I'd last seen him about three months ago when all of this started) and he said that most of the erosion is healed and that he's never seen such a drastic improvement before. My eye feels mostly better - I've been sleeping with the hydration mask on for the last few nights and I haven't had any flare-ups since I started TheraTears. I do feel like there's a slight burning from time to time, and every once in a while when I'm doing a compress I do feel the "foreign body sensation" a bit, but not as severely as I had before. My eyes still feel pretty dry when I wake up but as soon as I start the TheraTears regimen they feel more comfortable. I'm still doing compresses as close to 3x per day as I can, and still scrubbing my eyelids with baby shampoo every day as this hopefully will help prevent more duct clogging.

I'm cautiously optimistic. It does seem, right now, that TheraTears is as effective as OP says. I will also say that this is the most frequent eyedrop regimen I've ever embarked on/stuck with, so it could also just be that more regular lubrication is working wonders, regardless of the brand. I don't know, but I'm sticking with the TheraTears for now.

Here are a couple of other products I've been using:

Eye compress/mask. This is nice because you just put it on your head and don't have to sit there and hold it. Stays hot for about 8-10 minutes and pretty warm for another 10 or so after that. I heat this up for 23 seconds and listen to a podcast or something while it does its thing. Goal is 3x a day but I often can only manage 1 or 2.

USB heated eye mask. As many people have pointed out, this doesn't put out enough heat to be a substitute for other compresses, but I figure some heat is better than no heat, right? Sometimes I put this on at bedtime, set for 30 minutes. At some point later if I wake up after it shuts off, I switch to the hydration mask.

Systane overnight ointment. I put a blob of this in after the last TheraTears round for the day, right before sleep.

Genteel Severe Gel. I hit it with this any time it's feeling a little dry and/or fatigued, and I'm in between TheraTears rounds. I use this one if I can afford to have a blurry eye for a few minutes, but if I'm really busy I just go with regular Systane Complete drops.

If anyone is experiencing anything similar to what I've described, try this stuff. And with all of the treatments I've talked about (drops, compresses, lid scrubs), BE CONSISTENT. I know they are a pain in the ass and take up a lot of time but when I look at all the times things have gotten out of control with my eyes (I've had issues with chalazions for almost 20 years now) it's usually when I'm not being good about routines and hygiene.

Refresh Optive

It is stupidly expensive, but also the best eyedrops I've ever used. Avid gamer, all-day computer user (work), and having had Lasik...my eyes get dry and I've tried a lot of brands. I have not tried the generic of this (CVS)...may work just as well.

I have no experience with the purilens system, so I can't really speak to that. But I've been in my lenses for about a year now and have just been using the unisol to fill my lenses as my doctor suggested.

Also, make sure you get something to clean your lenses, nightly is preferable. I use this:
http://www.amazon.com/Clear-Care-Hydrogen-peroxide-Cleaning/dp/B0076P12W2

This is important for your comfort, the lenses can get kinda gunky and possibly lead to infections if you don't keep them clean, so this is what my doctor suggested as well!

Hi I can't read read anything that's not inches from my face; the only part of my arm that isn't blurry is my shoulder lol. You're at a disadvantage at the higher level of sparring because you likely won't be able to catch small details like hip movement, foot angles, etc as fast as others. That being said... I do wear my glasses while I spar but it's def a risk of them breaking, or scratching my face, although I haven't really run into that problem yet. I only do light head shots with them on because due to those potential risks, and partners never have a problem. I don't really compete because well I can't tell someone is kicking me until they're about half way through chamber. I have an irrational fear of putting contacts into my eyes, but those would be a life changer if you can get them. If you can get those special goggles those will likely work out well for you during sparring in class, but they are likely illegal in competition. Once my eyesight plateuas I'll be getting PRK surgery.

For kicks and stuff during drills and doing board breaking I'd recommend getting stuff like [this](
