I second that Sugar Bear Hair is garbage. All you get is extra sugar in your diet. I noticed my nails were nicer, but that's it.

Just get a bottle each of B-7 and B-3 vitamins and take those regularly. Those are what strengthen hair and nails, but without the big price tag and extra sugar.

Niacinamide is a HG ingredient for me and has helped clear up my skin immensely. I will never go without it again!

That being said, I too have used the TO Niacinamide 10% + Zinc and it also irritated my skin. I believe the 10% concentration is just too much. I've since gone back to my #1 which is Clear Skin by PCA. It is a lot more expensive unfortunately (which is why I was trying the TO) but at only 5% niacinamide it is much more gentle.

You can also buy niacinamide (also known as vitamin B 3 ) in powder form rather cheaply. If you have a scale and can do some math you can add it to your favorite moisturizer (I would start at 2% and work your way up from there)

So is "sustained release" the same as flush free? This is the one I purchased from Amazon last go around and I'm wondering if it's worthwhile or not.

Link to the product you bought - and to the article?
I'm looking at this, but it says "Niacin (as Niacinamide) (Vitamin B3)" so not sure.

u/cbdismymedicine · 3 pointsr/longevity

> Link? Is it mixed with other stuff or pure? I see a lot of combo products.

No i hate that.

I actually ordered zinc that had copper in it too. I got 30mg of zinc with 2mg of copper. What dosage did she recommend for you?

It's pretty common, here is NOW niacin on amazon.

In complete seriousness, I recommend making sure you're taking vitamin C and niacin supplements. Both help with mood.

For the niacin, as annoying as it is, get the non-flush variety. BUT! Start with a very very low dose (seriously like 25mg). If you feel a slight "rush" for about ten minutes and the skin around your face, neck, and maybe even shoulders and chest turns slight pink, but none of it is too bad, you've found your dose. The next time you take it, it'll be less pronounced, until it just stops happening. Then, up your dose. Continue to do this until you're at a few thousand mg a day, depending on your needs.

This helps me immensely. I always screw it up by forgetting to take it for a few days or a week, and then I basically have to start over again with the dosage. But that's my fault, not the supplement's. ;)

I recommend looking into these (that's not a referral link and I am not a shill of any kind). :)

Edit: This article might be helpful! :)

u/valentinedoux · 2 pointsr/DIYBeauty

I wouldn't use capsules or tablets in DIY or ready-made products because you won't be able to know the actual percentage or measurement. Some fillers are not for the skin like cellulose gum. It will make your skin really sticky.

Search for niacinamide powder on Amazon like 1 or 2.

u/ozcur · 2 pointsr/steroids

I'm pretty sure this doesn't count as source talk, so here's a link to the stuff I use. Good price, pills aren't too massive.

Anything from 1.5g to 2g a day should be good. People will tell you to split them up to minimize flush, but ignore those nerds. Just take it all at once (along with the aspirin). The first few days you may get a super, super mild flush, but then it'll be gone. Wait like a month before stopping the aspirin, then try a dose without it and see how the flush goes.

The other drug that David takes is Metaformin, which is prescription. It's for people with diabetes, but it also works for anti-aging. I don't know how you get your hands on that. He says it's currently being considered for other uses.

The active ingredient in Niacel is Niagen's nicotinamide robiside (NR).

http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/thorne-research-introduces-a-new-product-niacel-featuring-niagen-to-support-healthy-aging-253540031.html

You can read more about Niagen itself here;

https://chromadex.com/Ingredients/NIAGEN.html

There are many products on the market that contain Niagen.

To get the benefit of the NR you want something with 250mg per dose.

You can then mess around with that and see if/when it really kicks in for you.

Some people are good at the 250mg others go as high or higher than 750mg per day.

This is the top rated 250mg Niagen containing supplement on Amazon.

The flush is REAL though. I almost had to call out of work when I popped two and ate a banana. Literally sat in the bathroom running water over my face.

u/touchmestepthru · 1 pointr/steroids

I take this one, its not flush free, so it still works on lipids, but since it is sustained release instead of hitting you all at once, the flush is minimized. I don't even really feel it taking 2g a day.

I take one of these a day https://www.amazon.com/Rugby-Niacin-500-1000-Tabs/dp/B003H5SXDQ?th=1. Some days I light up and get asked if I have a sunburn. It doesn't feel great but it's 30 min of discomfort every once in awhile to give me an edge on the battle with my brain. It's well worth it to me.

u/RagingZoo · 1 pointr/Steroidsourcetalk

Try this

Take 3 tablets after a meal. You'll probably get some flushing, but it's a damn fine burn.

I was so miserable that I tried the supplements before I got the genetic testing. My reaction to it (very positive) gave me the kick in the butt to do the genetic testing, which confirmed my suspicions. Start ridiculously low with both of these. I started by writing down all my current symptoms and then taking them while chatting with a friend. They can watch how you react. Everyone reacts differently to these. Some people (like me) crave them and have a wonderful time, others have headaches and don't tolerate them very well. Please be very careful when you start. If you have negative reactions you can take VERY SMALL doses of niacin every ten minutes as Dr. Lynch suggests. Good luck!

I'm not trying to get your hopes up here, this is just what worked for me.

Here's what I use:

Again, I invite you to show evidence that there's any nutrient required by cats that can't be acquired without meat or other animal products.

However, just to make it clear that I'm not dodging the point with my previous post I will proactively address the nutrients mentioned in the source you linked:

For example, cats require vitamin A in its pre-formed state, they can't make it from beta-carotene the way humans or dogs or rabbits can.

Ami Cat plant based cat food contains pre-formed vitamin A.

They have little ability to form niacin from tryptophan.

Vegan niacin is readily available: https://smile.amazon.com/Doctors-Best-Time-release-niaxtend-Non-GMO/dp/B0041SFOY4/

The food I mentioned previously also contains such B vitamins.

They have a high requirement for taurine, which is found almost exclusively in animal flesh.

Humans have been able to synthesize taurine for many years. The food I mentioned previously contains adequate taurine.

Arginine, also found in animal flesh, is so critical to the cat that a meal without it can lead to death.

Vegan arginine is readily available: https://smile.amazon.com/Doctors-Best-Sustained-Immediate-L-Arginine/dp/B001UY2918/

Evolution plant based kibble has added arganine. It meets AAFCO standards which include arganine as a required nutrient.

Ami Cat (the food I mentioned previously) doesn't explicitly state added arginine in its ingredients, however it uses pea protein powder that is high in arginine. Per 100g, pea protein has more arginine than human muscle tissue. Ref: https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s00726-018-2640-5

Fortunately, all meat sources have plenty. Simply put, cats must eat meat to live.

Simply put, but factually wrong. Humans are capable of making any nutrient cats require without meat or other animal ingredients.

It is fair to say that there are some risks involved in feeding cats a plant based diet and it may even be correct to say that it's not optimal. However, it's just not correct to say that cats simply require meat - period, full stop. That's effectively the same thing as saying meat is magical, which isn't a position a rational person would take.

Has anyone bought niacinamide in supplement capsules to add to a facial lotion? Having it pre-measured would make things much easier for me, and the fillers look harmless. For example: http://www.amazon.com/Source-Naturals-Niacinamide-1500mg-100-Count/dp/B004FO6ATC/

The "normal" version of niacin (sold as just "niacin") causes a flush. If it's flush-free, it's usually in the form of niacinamide. Check the ingredient label. This, for example, is a "normal" flush-inducing version.

TL;DR: Try adding niacin and lithium orotate, and look into tDCS or even TMS.

I can relate to what you're going through. I've been on Wellbutrin (300mg/daily) for the past 9 years, and I know it helps raise the lower floor of my depression. (I know this because, at the end of a 6-month hiatus to see if it was having any effect, I was worse than my worst days 20 years ago.) But it doesn't seem to do a whole lot more than that for me. I'm also on Vyvanse (40mg) for ADD, which it seems to help, but even though its a stimulant, it doesn't have much of a stimulatory effect on me. (This was true on a prescription for Adderall, as well; often were the times I'd take an Adderal with my morning vitamins and Wellbutrin and just go back to sleep for a few more hours.).

In addition to Wellbutrin and Vyvanse, here's what I've done or am doing that has helped incrementally with each addition. Your mileage may vary:

  • B12 (10,000mcg sublingual)
  • Caffeine (200mg in morning and afternoon)
  • Garden of Life Mood+ Probiotics
  • Phenibut (750mg, followed by 500mg 4-8 hours later)^1
  • Niacin (500mg 4x/day)^2
  • Lithium Orotate (5mg/day)^3
  • tDCS: DLPFC F3+ and Supra Orbital Fp2- at 2mA for 20 min^4

^1 Phenibut: only on days when the barometer is dropping appreciably below mean sea-level atmospheric pressure. I'm serious.

^2 Niacin: I learned of this one in this subreddit, I think. I titrated up to 2,000mg/day over the course of a week, and I try to take it with food in my stomach. But it has to be the regular niacin that causes the flushing the first week or so until your body is used to it, not the "extended release" or "no-flush" varieties.

^3 I only recently learned this is available as a mineral supplement. Anecdotally, 5mg is about what you get from lithium occurring naturally in some well-water supplies. My psychiatrist said 5mg isn't even one percent of the amount they give people to stabilize them in a clinical setting, but he also said I was welcome to try it if I wanted. I've only been on this for a week and a half and it may only be helping me sleep, but at least that.

^4 Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation: Did my research, including lurking on /r/tDCS, ended up getting that SSD model I linked to above. My psychiatrist wants me to look into whether Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) would be covered by my insurance (for example, from one of these places), and I said I would, but I first wanted to try this lower-cost, easier-to-implement method of tDCS -- since they are related therapies and target the same neuron areas of the brain, basically. He told me to go ahead and give it a try.

I have to say the last week, with the lithium and the tDCS, has felt mostly different for me. I think it's everything on the list, cumulatively, probably, but it feels especially like it could be the tDCS making the bigger difference, which I've only been doing for a week now. The device could be little more than a "Placebometer 3000," but I know that I tried a lower amperage (1mA) on Sunday and then tried a different montage (placement of electrodes) on Monday, and neither one seemed to be as effective, but today, returning to the initial one I listed above, I feel back on track.

Your plan is a solid one. We are on the verge of a Golden Age, where EVERYTHING starts working much better. There are numerous technologies coming down the line, each of which is independently capable of making EVERYONE rich (thorium fission, fusion, space mining, 3D printing to name a few non-AI based ones).

You won't need to do anything yourself to get the benefits of these technologies. Energy forms a huge portion of the costs of most things, and with energy made so cheap it isn't worth it to charge for it any more, 99% of those costs will disappear. Space mining makes anything that you would normally mine cheap and plentiful. 3D printing combines those feedstocks to produce anything you need, free of charge.

It is a bright future.

And as for the brain problems, I would suggest two things. First, try a keto diet. They say that high fat, very low carb diets prevent seizures. That should help you. Also try taking 500mg niacinamide per day. That feeds a biochemical cycle in your body that makes all the cells work better, especially neurons. It is available on Amazon $5 for a 3 month supply:https://www.amazon.com/21st-Century-Niacinamide-Prolonged-110-Count/dp/B004SCKMQS/?th=1

Op, I am happy for you as I too used to have issues with my insulin and been controlling it successfully since having lost 40+ lbs that I have kept off for over a year through Keto & IF. I have just added more vegetables and tree times a week I substitute the meat for nuts and 1 avocado per day. I also eat sautéed mushrooms with peppers, spinach & onions. I started taking this non flushing niacin to help lower the bad colesterol at my doctors recommendation and it really helped: Nature's Way Niacinamide 500mg Non-flushing for Energy Release, 100 Capsules, 100 Count https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000I4AIUK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_FzgzCb2TXW1TQ
