And now everyone can have it and when everyone has it no one has it. Muahahhaa, wait I don't think I did that right.

u/randiesel · 14 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Hi Phil! I can't help but to agree, but I've grown addicted to a particular cheap wallet. I'd really love to have a durable leather version, but nobody I've asked has ever been interested in making one. If you're up to the challenge, let me know how much you'd want for something similar! I'd probably prefer a normal (but tight) pocket for the ID instead of the window, and it seems easier that way.

Edit: Just to be clear, these usually last me about 18 months, but they stretch out pretty badly and start to fall apart.

u/Double-Up · 10 pointsr/LifeProTips

Me too, but I have this wallet, it's hard to even tell what pocket it's in.

u/Derpese_Simplex · 9 pointsr/BuyItForLife

it is because I have been using these and they last less than a year and I was looking for a longer lasting alternative. I am not trying to be frugal, just getting tired of rebuying the same damn thing over and over.

I wanted to experiment. I was curious to see what the least knife that met most of my needs could be. Found this kiridashi for $7; it's even left-handed. Kiridashi are like a craft knife - used for marking, detail work, and simple cutting. They are usually ground single bevel.

I combined it with the least flashlight that met enough of my needs. 90% of the use is cleaning up after the dog on midnight walks, looking under furniture, in cabinets, etc.

It will be interesting to see how the next few days go.

For those of you who pocket carry, look into minimalist wallets. I've carried this for 2 years and it's great.

It's tiny, but holds my driver's license, pistol permit, registration, $20 (emergency bill), credit card, and two RFID badges for work.

I LOVE my Slimmy from Amazon

I've used mine daily for 5 years now and it's still working great.

u/Bionic0n3 · 4 pointsr/LivestreamFail

Link below, order history shows I bought it January 2016. Only thing I'll say is I only have 6 mostly flat cards total, if I had more I think it might loosen the band over time.

I did a video on a bi-fold which is pretty light and slim. The other two wallets visible at the beginning of the video are the Saddleback front pocket wallet and the slimmy front pocket wallet. I use the Slimmy most often, its a great thin wallet.

I've been using an Infinity Wallet for about 3.5 years. I was skeptical about an all-elastic wallet, but it's still good as new. I've got a bunch of cards I need to carry around all the time (3 bank cards, state and work ID cards, health and prescription insurance cards for me and my son, various memberships, professional license, etc., etc.), and the Infinity Wallet keeps it all as slim as possible. It's not very attractive, but it sure helps keep things manageable.

EDIT: 3.5 years, not 35 years.

My favorite wallet that I'm pretty sure is vegan friendly. Made of recycled plastic bottles. Super thin too.

u/chrisxclash · 3 pointsr/churning

I actually really like this solution, haha. I'm using this one from Amazon and it's essentially just an elastic band but I can separate license/insurance cards from my CCs and it's held up surprisingly well for $12.

I have an Allet Sport wallet with a tan leather on the exterior. I picked it up on eBay. The leather is a little lighter in color than than what they sell on their website now. I don't use it 100% of the time, but it's my go-to wallet when I carry cash. I just ordered a red one for my partner yesterday, actually.

You might want to check out their new venture, Mule Carry (they have a link on their website). I actually talked to them about it. They're using veg tanned leather and a new nylon interior that's just better looking overall. Slightly more expensive, but much cheaper than Belroy :)

I've never owned a Belroy, just a little too pricey for me. However, I did check out a brand called Ikepod, which I got on Amazon. They are basically Belroy clones, so if that bothers you, you'll want to pass :) I ended up returning the wallets I ordered from them, but only because I was going for the thinnest wallet I could possibly fine (And AllEtt is just thinner). But, the quality seems really nice, and they get really good reviews. One of their models is a lot like the low down. I don't know if you're up for looking on Etsy, but there are some really great leather craftsmen and women on Etsy. I'm eyeing a couple different slim kangaroo leather wallets, actually, given how slim and durable Kangaroo leather is supposed to be.

These are the two I have my eye on:

One other wallet I really like is by Vaultskin. In the USA, the Manhattan is the model, but there's international, too. I actually own this one too (lol, I like wallets). I haven't used it a ton, but it's wearing very well, and the reviews are excellent. Link: https://www.amazon.com/Vaultskin-MANHATTAN-Bifold-Wallet-Protection/dp/B01MA1FO2E/ref=sr_1_1?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1505853030&sr=1-1&nodeID=7141123011&psd=1&keywords=vaultskin%2Bmanhattan&th=1

Let me know wht you go with!

u/charliefuckstick · 2 pointsr/minimalist

I use one of these, but I can't really speak for durability other than it hasn't started to wear down or crease or anything. It's a super slimmed down design with slots for 2 cards on each side, and a pinch-open fold in the middle for cash or whatever.

I like the Allett Slim wallet since it's very thin (due to the different layout of cards, and the material). Though, that's more for a daily driver to put in my pocket. For keeping cards at home I got a business card case, something like this.

Distil Union - Wally Bifold - $59.99 I have owned this wallet for ~7mos and have loved it. In one slot I have 7 credit/gift cards; in the other slot I have 3 IDs, 3 insurance cards, and 4 business cards, and I have 6 US paper bills in the clip. It's ~3/4" thick right now, which may seem thick I think, but compared to nearly 1.5" with my old wallet, it's a significant improvement. I find it's definitely comfortable in the front or back pocket. I've given it as a gift three times since I've received mine, and I would highly recommend it!

u/HandBananas · 2 pointsr/EDC

This is what I carry. For the price and quality, I don't think you can beat it.

u/onwee · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

I use the Slimmy. It works well enough (2 years and going) for my purposes (6 cards, couple of bills, day's worth of folded receipts).

Some popular options around here:

  • Magpul Daka $15 - A nice, inexpensive option for a very slim wallet.

  • Herschel Charlie $20 - A very slim wallet, mostly for cards, but can hold cash as well. RFID blocking. Comes in a multitude of patterns.

  • Recycled Firefighter $30 - Very popular slim wallet. Made of recycled fire hoses, very tough-should last a lifetime. Holds 4-8 cards and cash.

  • Big Skinny Slimline $25 - Just your average, classic Bi-fold wallet. Slimmer than most other options in this style.

  • Vaultskin Chelsea $25 - A nice, slim, leather wallet. RFID Blocking is always nice these days. And if the Chelsea is not quite your style, then Vaultskin also has a bunch of other styles in quality materials that may be to your liking. The Manhatten is another popular one.

  • Ridge Wallet $65+ - A bit more pricy option, but very popular. Made with premium materials, and has a classy design. very sleek, and it'll work with cash or cards. You can also find some knockoffs on amazon that will do the same thing at a much lower price point.

So, I had a Big Skinny, and a couple other slim billfolds for years. But I always had a problem; if you cleaned up your wallet and took some things out, cards would start to fall out. And since the cards are held with the opening to the top of the wallet, they could fall out when closed.

Reached a peak this summer when I lost an Amex card when it just slid out. Pissed me right off.

So I ponied up for one of these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00TXP8IQG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
and it is wonderful. Notice how, when the billfold is closed, the cards cannot slide out. Lovely. Slim, looks good, holds quite a lot.

Recommended.

u/girlwriteswhat · 2 pointsr/MensRights

Buy one of those hard wallets for credit cards and keep them in there to reduce the possibility of damage.

u/mrpopsicleman · 2 pointsr/snes

I got both of them pretty close to each other (NES in 1992, SNES in 1993) so I think both are great. I feel like you can't have one without the other. Though I think the SNES had more consistently good games, and is the console that many 2D genres, like platformers and JRPGs, were perfected on.

That being said. I'm sick to death of NES nostalgia. We had it in 2002 with the NES e-Reader cards. We had it in 2004 with the Classic NES Series. We had it in 2013 and 2014 with the NES Remix series and the NES 3DSXL. For over a decade, we've had it on everything from shirts to hats to wallets to shoes. And we have it now with the NES Classic Edition. I get that the NES is iconic, but are they ever going to move on to SNES nostalgia? Yeah, they had the Super Famicom controller for Wii and the Super Famicom New 3DSXL, but both of those were Japan only.

u/preferredfault · 1 pointr/BuyItForLife

I would say most real leather wallets should last. I have a Duck Head brand wallet I bought over 12 years ago and it's still in great shape, sadly the brand doesn't exist anymore. When it comes to real leather wallets, it's the stitching that matters the most, but thick stitching doesn't necessarily mean it will last longer. When it comes to stitching, you want stitching that isn't going to protrude out from the wallet and rub against things, because that's going to wear down the stitching.

The popular style today is minimalist wallets that are primarily for ID and credit cards. I rarely ever carry cash, because if I get mugged, it won't be replaced. I know old timers like to carry hundreds of dollars in cash around, I used to carry around whole paychecks in my wallet, but I think it's a bad habit that should change. Just the other day I was in line at a store and an old guy dropped nearly $200 out of his wallet without realizing, if I hadn't told him he dropped money, someone would have snatched that up quick, there was another guy who was standing nearby who saw it and was eyeing the money, waiting for his chance to swoop in. I was even tempted to take it, but it is the holiday season.

I typically prefer thinner leather wallets, not that cow hide thickness. I don't like to feel a bulge when I sit down, and that's not good for your sitting health anyways. ID, debit card, $20, and insurance papers is all one should carry around in a wallet, otherwise get a satchel/backpack/purse. Thick leather doesn't really last longer than thinner leather, nor does it really look good for longer either. I actually prefer the subtle wrinkles you get in leather over time, gives them character, texture, and makes them more pliable.

I don't know what kind of stitching it's called, but I find that stitching that resembles this : "VVVVVVVVV", is the kind that holds up. Don't buy any wallet that uses the typical "- - - - - - -" type of stitching. It's a gamble and the stitching will usually wear out in a few years at best, no matter how thick the thread is. Also make sure it's double stitched.

I can't recommend any brands though, since its been a long time since I've had to buy a wallet. I've only needed to own 3 my entire life. There's a lot of wallet brands out there that are either over priced or gimmicky or whatever else, just trying to hype a product. The more expensive the wallet......the more likely it is to be a waste of money or break down sooner. I think I payed something like $10-20 for my leather wallet.

It's actually hard to recommend BIFL wallets because they're like clothes....styles and brands are constantly changing. The wallet you buy today, will likely not be on the market 5 years from now. So it's better to look for specific aspects in a wallet rather than just specific brands.

I like to get a good wallet the first time around, get and forget. None of that repair or replace every few years. If I spend $20+ on a wallet, I should never have to worry about wear and tear for at least several years.

Now I'm not giving examples of what to buy here, but I kind of want to show what I'm talking about.

Here are two popular wallets from Amazon (I wouldn't recommend either for different reasons):

https://www.amazon.com/Alpine-Swiss-Genuine-Leather-Flip-out/dp/B00MAVN0R2/ref=zg_bs_2475895011_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=MF5G2QHGR10N6NRTGJG5

https://www.amazon.com/Fossil-Ingram-Trifold-Wallet-Wallets/dp/B00BD2BGZM/ref=zg_bs_2475895011_3?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=MF5G2QHGR10N6NRTGJG5

You'd think the $40 one would be better, but if you look at the stitching, the $15 one is less likely to have the stitching give out. Large bulgy stitching is going to friction against every surface and eventually come apart or come loose and then friction even more, compared to the other one with the smaller stitching that is essentially protected by being indented into the leather, thus it's the leather that will take the contact/friction.

Although the fossil wallet seems more like something you'd be looking for, I really can't stress enough how much stitching matters. It doesn't matter how good the leather might look if you're going to be dealing with a wallet coming apart, and it's hard to restitch a wallet without looking sloppy.

I hate sitting on my wallet. To me it doesn't make sense. So I carry mine in the front pocket. This one is designed for the front pocket. I absolutely love it. Had it almost 4 years now, it's still like new. Would buy it again (if I have to) and I buy them for friends all the time.

I'm looking for a new wallet. The one I have I got when I was 14-15. It's a trifold biker wallet that at one point had a leather medallion sewed to the front with the S&W logo. Its been thru hell and has been repaired a bunch. The time to replace it is now.

I like this one and REALLY like this one.

I need something slim, leather, nice looking, but hopefully not $90. I carry about 8 cards, spare key, and 5-10 bills.

Any good ideas?

Pick up one of those when you can. It's contoured for front-pocket use, shielded to protect any RFID tags from skimming, is super sturdy, and is pretty minimalist. Not only does it work for front-pocket, but it encourages you not to bring your whole house with you.

Slimfold minimalist wallet. It is a little pricey vs the very very similar knock off you can find if you search for "slim wallet" on the A--zon Its coming up on 2 years now and shows no signs of wear or damage. DL, 7 cards, rarely a few bills. Super slim and great.

I had Metal wallets with bands but they were destroying jeans so I swapped to this and have been very happy.

They also make a double size one that holds cards vertically four across that makes a nice organizer for cards you don't carry but don't want to lose or would fit in a purse for women lurkers.

Currently using the Infinity Wallet. Cheap, minimal and holds a good amount of cards. There are 3 compartments and it can hold 10+ cards (though I find 6-8 to be more ideal). The downsides are that it's not super durable since it's just sewn elastic (it's starting to fray a bit after 1.5 years) and it can sometimes be hard to get to the card you want.

My wife got me one of these Rogue Wallets a couple of years ago - I really like it. The ballistic nylon (feels almost like kevlar, just smoother) is a nice change up from leather, it is designed to be carried in the front pocket (I'm never going back to back pocket carry) and it is very slim (you will decide what you need and you will not put anything else in there). It is also RFID protected. Still looks and feels pretty much exactly how it did when I unwrapped it.

Even the nicest reinforced leather wallets I somehow demolish within a year, plus they’re always too thick.

I picked up this one a few months ago and I love it so far. Two thick cards of carbon fiber held together with a super strong elastic band that has carbon fiber reinforced seams (and comes with 4 different bands).

I've got a Slimmy hehe. I've had it for atleast a year. I love it. I don't really have a lot of shit to carry around so it's perfect if all you have is a couple of IDs, buspass, debit card, and a couple of bucks. It's so slim. I like skinny jeans and I can barely see it in my pocket.

Got a Nintendo wallet as a gift and I love pulling it out and getting compliments on the size of the length and girth.

u/TrapperKeeperGuy · 0 pointsr/AdviceAnimals

I really like that first one. My current wallet is an NES controller, but I feel like I need a more professional, leather one now that I'm 30.

u/TummyFullOfMeth · 0 pointsr/malefashionadvice

I've had this for about 2 months now. I carry 5 cards and a large 50 cent sized coin in it daily. Only problem is when I have cash on me its stuffed so I have to pocket bill loose in my pocket. There is also a larger version of this wallet that might fix this problem, but I feel that if this was any bigger it wouldn't be comfortable in a front pocket.

I have also used this style of wallet for around 2 years. I think it degraded the life of my credit cards much faster, but it was much thinner and more efficient will dollar bills.

u/SupaZT · -1 pointsr/frugalmalefashion
