Thanks! Awesome replies. I am wondering under what theoretical scenario, all other factors being equal, using density altitude to replace pressure, altitude, temperature and humidity will result in a miss vs hit.

Why not just use kestrel? As a new long range shooter, my wife is already angry at me for all the money I spent on equipment and I am wondering how much hindered I am going to be by going with $64 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HS7FESG density altitude rather than $400 https://www.amazon.com/Kestrel-5500-Weather-Meter-Olive/dp/B017AF1LJ6?th=1&psc=1 Link integration.

There is also an argument that in many real-world scenarios like hunting overreliance on technology may be problematic. If you think Bluetooth is never going to fail you, try regularly using Bluetooth headphones...

If you don't have good inet in the field to look at sfc obs I would recommend something like this: Kestrel Pocket Weather Meter along with a good compass that you can pair with it to determine wind speed direction. Some of the higher end Kestrels will have built in compass. Mine doesn't, but then again I just use that as a backup really. So far I've had extremely reliable internet which gives me surface obs usually to about 5-10 minutes in accuracy.

AFAIK, the cheapest model Kestrel sells that has all the measurements for ballistics (including humidity and pressure) is the 3500. I managed to catch it on sale for $155 a few years ago. The bluetooth and ballistics models are considerably more pricey and I wasn't convinced it was worth it just for that. Punching in the numbers manually hasn't been much of a hassle for me, but YMMV, as they say.

my thought is "dude, you are already buying something thats pretty unnecessary for your unnecessary hobby, so...might as well just get the one you want"

and thats how i am constantly making my wish list grow. i DID have the lieca rangefinder on there, now im thinking about the vectronix instead.

dammit.

edit: looks like its about $50 difference - http://www.amazon.com/Night-Vision-Pocket-Weather-Tracker/dp/B003C0NYTY
