So Elon's "flamethrower" is just one of these with a second fuel line?

IANAL

Discharging that on a beach COULD get you into pretty serious trouble depending on jurisdiction. Even though the thing is just a trendy and vastly overpriced weed torch for the easily duped, WA state law is very broad in what it considers a weapon. Best find a shooting range.

Also DO NOT USE THIS IN THE FOREST OR ANYWHERE ELSE YOU COULD START A FIRE.

You can get a flame thrower wand for a propane tank pretty cheap. My neighbor uses one to start his fires in the firepit.

Edit: So I guess it is technically not called a flamethrower but a torch. Still thing can shoot out some flames.

It seems counterintuitive, but tilling increases weeds.

The best solution is the most expensive, build raised beds.

A good option is to kill the surface plants, then spread 6-8 inches of mulch.

Ways to kill surface plants:

  • water an area then place a clear plastic sheet on the ground on a warm sunny day. It cooks the grass.

  • place a black tarp on a warm sunny day

  • Use a flame torch and burn it

The last solution is the worst, till again. If you do till one more time make sure to spread a heavy mulch after your finished our else you'll get right back into the weed-till-soil destruction-more weeds cycle.

The boring flame thrower is literally just a fancy weed burning torch, so feel free to use it on your property to burn weeds.

It's called a weed burner (of all things) and can be purchased at most hardware stores and even rented. All that is needed is a propane tank like what is on your barbeque and a lighter. It throws a minimal flame and is pretty easy to use.

I don't know the price of sod there, but if I were looking for "instant lawn" on a spot like that, I'd torch anything green just enough until the leaves were shiny, and then turn the soil after three days. Permeable black landscape fabric under 3/4" of new soil will keep any of the old stuff from coming up through (if it survives having its leaves glazed), and will be enough soil to get the sod rooted until it is energetic enough to grown down through the pores. The fabric isn't great for drought areas, but with an aeration once the sod is established, the grass will have no trouble rooting through it. I'd probably install subsurface drip irrigation while I'm at it, and work out a way of directing laundry water to it.

Really? Nobody? Nobody here is going to suggest killing it with fire??

Well then let me. Here's a nice handy tool: https://www.amazon.com/Mag-Torch-MT-5000-500000-Burner/dp/B00KXX6QMK/

Here we have a flame thrower (well, technically a blow torch) which you plug into your propane tank. Out pops 500,000BTU to turn your weeding into playtime.

The way you're supposed to do this is get something that pushes out 25,000 BTU or something like that and then just lightly warm your weeds until they turn a dark green. Then return the next day and sweep them away. The more satisfying method, however, is getting 500,000 BTU and lay that down against the weed like a jet engine verses a match.

You might need to be careful if you're using it in a dense flower bed because before you know it your wife will be yelling at you... but it's worth it. Also, mulch... might light on fire. And so could your house. But your weeds won't know what hit 'em.

Friend of mine busted out one of these yesterday, was really effective, no gas taste, and looks super cool.

He uses it with a coleman propane tank using this adapter.

If you want an actual flame thrower then give your money to these people X15

Or fill a super soaker with gasoline and save $500.

You could get one of these and some melt chemicals to use after you melt it all.
