It's not pretty lol. We tried to zip tie everything together to make it at least understandable haha

EDIT: Hijacking this post since there are a LOT of common questions. Oh and /u/smilenataliew is the wife :)

FAQ:

>How did you connect everything to the TV/What adapters did you use?

NES through Gamecube (bottom 4): We have a 4-input composite switcher (those Yellow/Red/White cables) between the N64 and Gamecube, connected to our TV's 3.5mm composite port (which looks like a headphone jack), which we convert with cables like these. We do not recommend a composite to HDMI converter, as the output (might) look garbled from older systems (it did for us).

Wii: Component cables to HDMI converter, then into a remote controlled HDMI switcher (switcher and controller can both be seen to the left of Kirby Amiibo/the Wii)

WiiU & Switch: HDMI to the same HDMI switcher

>Don't the controllers just fall out when you open the case? How are they secured?

The NES controller is resting on a WiiU controller stand, oddly enough!
The SNES controller is the most finnicky. It's slightly leaning back on its own cords, but it's hard to get it to stay put.
The N64 controller is leaned against a stack of N64 games--it's definitely the system my wife and I have the most games for already!
The Gamecube controller is leaning against two other stacked gamecube controllers.
The Wii controller is just just leaning up against a thick piece of cardboard (more cardboard is also holding up the NES and SNES systems since the bottom of their doors would block view of the systems otherwise. My wife intends to wrap all cardboard with contact paper to make it all more decorative, she's very crafty!)
The WiiU has the same controllers as the Wii, except for the screen one, which is on a stand that actually charges the unit while it sits on top of the WiiU system!
The Switch controller actually stands on its own with the joy cons connected to them, but I've decided to actually show the charging station we bought with the joy cons connected to it so that they'll always be charged and ready to go!

>Where are the games?

Behind the controllers! In fact the N64 controller is leaning on a stack of them.

>Cable management? Do you have controller extenders?

Lots of zip ties in the back, and as for controller cables, we bought ~100 of those velcro straps for cords so we can wrap them up for neat display storage without wrapping the cords around the controllers. We also have extension cords for all corded controllers since the consoles don't exactly come out of the unit!

>Where can I get the display case?

It's a piece of furniture so it's a bit expensive, but it's definitely what we wanted after searching for a couple weeks! It's on Amazon

>You could have just emulated it all!

I love having and playing on the original consoles, but emulation is also awesome!

>Where's the Virtual Boy?

It doesn't connect to the TV so I didn't feel the need to get it for this project, but I DO want it for my collection! (Also kids should wait a bit before they play with a 3D device, even the 3DS)

>Where's Nintendo's even older console, the Color TV-Game?/Where's the 64DD?

Those were released Japan only, but I might still want to get them! I believe the controller and the console for Color TV-Game are both one unit, and space is limited, so it might be tough to integrate it if I want to get it!

>Where's the TV? CRT??

Mounted on the wall above the mantle. Sorry, no CRT...yet.

>PHOTOSHOPPED!/I swear I saw this before!

lol why would anyone photoshop this? Definitely real. I'll provide a few more images if I can. And definitely my setup! Though I'm sure I'm not the first to do something similar.

>lol fake niece

The niece and story are real, but if I'm being perfectly honest this is more for me than her haha

I refuse to believe anyone who keeps saying this shit has even held a Wii U Pro controller, or hasn't seen the link to the Wii U GC Mayflash adaptor that gets posted every other thread.

For the majority of people, Wi-Fi is good enough, even if they might be in a situation that Ethernet would be easy enough to set up. Really, it's just a design decision. Less stuff in the system, less to pay for, and cheaper to produce. It helps that most people would use Wi-Fi anyway.

As for using Ethernet, you'll want a USB Ethernet adapter. Just about any of them work, provided they don't require an extra driver to be installed. I've been using this one for a few months now without issue. Good and fast too. Once you've got one, go to your system settings and change to a wired connection.

If you get a Mayflash Adapter, you can still use your old GCN controllers.

http://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-Nintendo-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Wii/dp/B00BS520SG

u/faortiz · 20 pointsr/wiiu

I purchased two adapters on amazon and here's what I got.

Both are the same, inputs are only for OTHER Wii remote accessories. I'm so frustrated because I was excited to finally use my GC controllers. But anyway, I'm trying to ask for a replacement but Amazon doesn't let me and says it's only for standard refund. DAMMIT.

Has this happened to anyone? How did you handle it? I don't want to pay for returned shipping and I would REALLY like to receive replacements already instead of having to look online again and purchase two more. I didn't even know that they made these? The picture clearly shows a slot for GC controllers. But yeah, all help/advice appreciated.

EDIT: I didn't mean to give amazon any bad light, they gave me a full refund right away and I'm still going to buy another pair of adapters to use my GC controller. Didn't mean to rant so much, I just thought this unlucky fail was hilarious enough for reddit to see.

EDIT2: I realized after reading some comments that I forgot to mention that I own the Wii U, although I hoped it was rather obvious seeing as how I posted this in r/WiiU. Thanks to those who rightfully assumed this

u/Sirgoku1 · 8 pointsr/smashbros

There actually is an adapter to get Gamecube to Wii U. You can purchase it here

u/kitsovereign · 8 pointsr/Games

There are a few options right now - The Mayflash adapter lets you connect a GCN controller to a Wii remote and have it spoof a Classic Controller. Additionally, the PDP Wired Fight Pad and HORI Battle Pad are Classic Controllers, but modeled after the classic Gamecube controller shape.

There's always the chance that Nintendo will make the GCN adapter work for things other than SSB for Wii U, but I'm not sure I'd hold my breath. Honestly if they just made it work in Wii mode it'd be amazing.

u/StimulatorCam · 8 pointsr/wiiu

Nope. The adapter only works with Smash Bros.

However, these do exist to use with a Wiimote, but I have no idea about how well they work or game compatibility.

u/larsoncc · 7 pointsr/crtgaming

Smash Brothers Melee supports 480p.

Because of this you have a great CRT alternative that looks great (high line count), has no lag, and is more readily available than a PVM - VGA monitors.

With proper cabling, VGA monitors can be used with PC, Xbox, Xbox 360, GameCube, Wii, PS2, Nuon (I think), and Dreamcast. With a scaler attached, any system goes (but you get a touch of lag).

You'll need a component to VGA transcoder to enable this. I think the easiest method is to use the Wii over component, and get an external Component to VGA transcoder, or get the https://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-Wii-PS3-VGA-HDTV-Cable/dp/B0015MISAG/ - "VGA cable" for Wii (which is basically a transcoder built into the cable).

PS - if you're in the Chicago area, I have 4 VGA monitors I'm giving away.

If you're OK with Standard Def - there are loads of people selling / giving away standard def TV sets that work great, look great, and have component input. Sony Trinitron sets are good, but in this range, many sets are great.

u/Hlnkkx · 7 pointsr/smashbros

You do realize that there is no LAN adapters in the page you just linked.

Also OP, this one here should be fine.

or

Or any cheap stand with a USB C to USB A female adapter. The GC adapter only needs the black cable for all 4 ports to function.

u/hamie96 · 6 pointsr/smashbros

This is the capture card I have. It works pretty well, but it records in 480i at 60fps I believe (the Wii outputs 480p max). I'd recommend buying these cables as well due to S-Video being much higher quality than standard AV cables.

For your software, you'll want to download Virtual Dub (the bundled software is not that great plus Virtual Dub gives you options for compression). For encoding, I'd recommend HuffYuv. It's a lossless codec meaning it will be a large file size, but the quality will be 1:1 with the TV.

You'll then want to compress it to a much smaller size. There is a simple program that will encode it in x264 and NeroAAC which will shrink the file size and still give you great quality. You can download it here and I'd recommend the tutorial here.

you can get an adapter online I believe mayflash makes one, also you can get the new white controller for like 36$ on amazon. Let me find you the links one sec... http://www.amazon.com/Official-Nintendo-White-Classic-Gamecube-Controller/dp/B0017KIBAI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1406606932&sr=8-1&keywords=white+gamecube+controller that is the controller and http://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-Nintendo-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Wii/dp/B00BS520SG/ref=pd_sim_vg_2?ie=UTF8&refRID=0M8WZBRS8EPKHJ5N05KA is the adapter. Also why the fuck does the url for that last link say B00BS lol its like someone is fucking with us! hahaha. But a tilt is just when you SLIGHTLY move your control stick up, down or forward and press A and you will do a tilt attack that is weak and is great for comboing/juggling for most characters. You can do it with your wiimote + nunchuck itll just be bad. Also play Project M as it has melee physics since if you have a wii U u probs wont be playing melee anytime soon so you can get good without having the game.

u/davidvkimball · 6 pointsr/smashbros

There is sort of a solution. Check out my video here.

Basically, there's an adapter (link to amazon here) that connects from your Wii Remote to your GameCube controller, and it essentially treats your GameCube controller like a Classic Controller.

More details are in the video. :)

u/billpika · 6 pointsr/smashbros

It's a convertor that recognizes the GC controller as a classic controller.

http://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-Nintendo-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Wii/dp/B00BS520SG

u/KyaDash · 5 pointsr/crtgaming

If your intention is just Melee, you should be able to find a half decent PC CRT monitor out there, in the 17-20'' range, so about a foot and a half to two feet wide, same rough dimensions tall, and about 2 feet or so deep. Pair this with a RVL-001 Wii(one with the Gamecube ports) and a cable such as this and you've got a high quality, lagless Melee playing station. All of that should very easily fit within a 2-3ft cube.

This setup wouldn't work for older consoles, but for anything that offers 480p VGA, or a way to convert from say, YPbPr Component(at the same resolution) to VGA, would work just fine.

u/personofblah · 5 pointsr/SSBM

Don't listen to the other 3 people this TV should be just fine.

It looks like it has an S-video input (labeled Y/C-input on the TV in this picture) they make wii output cables with those like this. Then there's only one audio input below it, so plug in the white audio cord into that and you'll be set.

u/midsummernightstoker · 5 pointsr/Games

There is an adapter that lets you use gamecube controllers with the Wii U. Still no BC for gamecube games though.

u/iRanch · 5 pointsr/smashbros

If the game allows for Wii Classic Controllers, you can use the GC to Classic adapter, otherwise everyone will use the new Pro Controller.

Some people have played Melee with the Wii U pro controller through homebrew and said it felt fine, so i'm not so worried.

u/EnduranceProtocol · 5 pointsr/nintendo

Unfortunately no. Wii games are played in the WiiU's Wii mode, which is basically Wii hardware. The Gamepad simply shuts.

You can use the Wii Classic Controller (Pro). There are 3rd party Wii to Gamecube controller adapters such as this one, if you're interested in that, although I can't vouch for any brand or if they're even reliable at all, as I've never experienced any.

u/John_Lawn · 5 pointsr/gaming

Well, there are these things. Assuming that SSB4 supports the classic controller from the wii (which I'm 90% sure they will), your problem is solved.

It works perfectly on the wii u. I ended up switching to the classic controller pro due to the lack of GC ports on the wii u. However you can get an adapter to use your GC remotes for it. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00BS520SG

u/josephgee · 5 pointsr/smashbros

You can use the mayflash Wiimote ➝ GCN adapter: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00YH3NWTW

This seems like a ridiculous cash grab to kickstart. If anyone else produces something similar (very easy) and publishes the model (also easy) then your pricepoint has to compete with very cheap printing services. Even if you are integrating a usb-C dock with passthrough you are looking at a parts cost of 20-ish if you have a good relationship with your supplier, 30 for the GCC dock if you are going OEM plus plastic costs, and labor costs to refine each print. Your design will offer power passthrough, but that will make people paranoid, as well. I am not saying this is a terrible idea, but I did the same thing a few months back in just a few hours - I actually considered an integrated USB-C to A dock with power passthrough, but even from alibaba I couldn't get a quote I was happy with. I didn't try for long - USB C to single A dongles are about a buck and work fine. This keeps the final costs waaaaaay down.

I am not saying you shouldn't do this - but with the hori multiport play stand (and hori is well trusted in the smash scene) already out you are going to have to target essentially that price point, which I think will be very difficult if you intend to print and retail these yourself, or with a small staff, to turn any reasonable profit.

My advice would be to look at a high quality snap-together design you can have injection molded. this will hugely increase your costs - 20-50K for molds depending on who and where you go with, but an actual dock+GCC adapter with passthrough charging would be a significantly more useful venture than "it's like the hori thing with the GCC stuck to the bottom" which I think will be very difficult to pull off successfully unless you somehow manage to beat a 70 dollar price point.

u/slipperypete9999 · 5 pointsr/TheCinemassacreTruth

I actually hooked up one of my Wii's to my HD this weekend. No component inputs, so I had to order one of these.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B078MGZ56R/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Works fine in 480p/16:9.

Also, if you ever reclaim your Wii, you should definitely homebrew it, it's a great emulation machine.

u/Philip_Swiftopher · 5 pointsr/wii

Those cheap wii2hdmi converters are crap. I use a Portholic wii2hdmi and I absolutely love it. It is universally considered one of the best brands for wii2hdmi.

u/KaCh1ng · 5 pointsr/wii

Yeah so 6000 million people make wii2hdmi, Sewell branded ones used by the smash community do audio through HDMI and are flawless adapters with no lines, lag, or discoloration. The other known brand choice is the hyperkin hdmi cable.

u/RebootRevival · 4 pointsr/wii

If you found an adapter for VGA or even to DVI it would likely have separate audio lines that you could hook up to a sound bar or to PC speakers. Like This . The red and white RCA plugs would carry audio.

u/MajinVegetaTheEvil · 4 pointsr/WiiHacks

For Wii, you can find decent adapters for less than $20 from Amazon. I did. This one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0753CZ8MC

GameCube? Those are rarer and a lot more expensive. The cheapest is the Carby v2, which costs $75. I just got one. https://insurrectionindustries.com/product/carby-v2/
This only works on a DOL-001 console.

u/hankydysplasia · 4 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I am not using a 1st party adapter.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003XWD1G2/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Had that since 2014 and works great with Switch.

u/Connor53 · 4 pointsr/smashbros

I believe you will want to get one of these.

u/Hudbus · 4 pointsr/nintendo

Take a look at this.

That's really the only way to get official GC controllers to work with all Wii U titles that support the Classic Controller.

The overhyped adapter only works with Smash Bros. for some (possibly marketing related) reason.

u/bpear · 4 pointsr/wiiu

If you don't want to use homebrew like someone else suggested (HID to VPAD) . Homebrew is super simple to setup btw, just put some files on your sd card and launch a web page on the wii u browser.

You could get this adapter https://www.amzn.com/B00BS520SG it plugs into a wii remote and the wii u reads it as a classic controller. I don't know why it has such poor reviews. I have one and it works perfectly fine.

u/schmorgyborgy · 4 pointsr/wiiu

Because not everybody has a Game Cube and Wii, and it is sometimes easier to just have everything on one console. Also, you can use your game cube controller with this

u/Tiger_Millionaire · 4 pointsr/Games

I have one of these:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00BS520SG/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1419525801&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SY200_QL40
It works great! You plug it into a Wiimote and then plug a cube controller into it and you're golden. The only downside is you only get one port but it's whatever.
Edit: wrong link

u/TyranusCannabis · 4 pointsr/wiiu

Nope, they haven't and won't, such a terrible oversight, at least make Nintendo brand "classic controller" connectors for the GC: https://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Dual-White/dp/B00YH3NWTW/ref=pd_sbs_63_t_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=MVKW9SWZKJ9G0CYYGGHF

u/DeSynthed · 4 pointsr/MarioKartWii

A couple of notes,
You don't need to buy a new Wii, you have a couple of options for using GC controllers on a family edition Wii:

  1. the smash GC adapter, if you're playing through CTGP, it has support for the GC adapter, which I believe works if you plug it in to the back of a standard Nintendo Wii (I can verify this if you want me to).
  2. Using this adapter which makes the GC controller act as a pro controller. I can personally vouch for this method as the latency is just as good as a pro controller, and this may be your cheapest option.

To answer your actual question, it's preference, I personally find consistently hitting wheelies easier on the GC controller, so I use that.
u/TheJohnny346 · 3 pointsr/gamecollecting
u/Z-Ninja · 3 pointsr/wiiu

>What is the best place to buy a Wii U?

Wherever has the bundle you want and price you want!

>Can I connect it to an Asus monitor and Creative T20 speakers?

You'll need to make sure you have your audio set up properly - depends on the input your speakers require. If they need traditional stereo input you can buy a wii component cable and set the Wii U to ouput sound through there in the settings. If your monitor accepts an HDMI audio signal and has an audio out of some kind, you should be fine. You may need an HDMI audio splitter (which I'm not familiar with, but gets recommend a lot).

>Are there any new bundles coming out this christmas or after?

They will likely be created by retailers, not official bundles from Nintendo. Things like buy this Wii U and get an eshop card.

>Will prices drop after christmas?

Hard to tell, but retailers may have sales.

u/R3Dimac · 3 pointsr/wiiu

You need a LAN adapter.

If you're wondering what other game to get, I would recommend you getting Stealth Inc. 2, Pier Solar, Shantae and the Pirate's Curse, Pushmo World, Unepic, Armillo, Mighty Switch Force, Scram Kitty, Nano Assault Neo, Puddle, Steamworld Dig, Lone Survivor: The Director's Cut, NES Remix, Teslagrad, Master Reboot, Ittle Dew, Stick It to the Man, Cubemen 2, Ballpoint Universe: Infinite, Edge, Toki Tori, and Another World.

u/RGB240P · 3 pointsr/crtgaming

>> Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe this means I'm limited to keeping one console at a time plugged in receiving RGB.

Looking at your 'Electrical Data' sheet, it appears that SCART inputs 'AV2' and 'AV3' both support RGB.

>> I've heard some people say you can get Component out of the Loewe Aventos 3781 ZW as well but I haven't actually been able to find the RGB RCA ports anywhere on the TV myself. Am I missing something?

I think they mean component (YUV;YPbPr) over SCART, not component over RCA. On your electrical data sheet, it lists 'YUV' as a possible signal type for SCART input AV3. To use component you'll need to purchase a component RCA to SCART passthrough adapter.

I don't see any information about the VGA port that is shown in the picture. One thing I would be curious about is if this monitor will accept 15khz signals over the VGA port. Not many VGA monitors do but since this monitor accepts 15khz over other inputs it might. If so you could have the Wii plugin to the VGA port and it should work in both 480i and 480p modes.

So if you're lucky you might be able to do something like this:

PS 2: Component Cable to Digital Set-top Box

Wii: RGBHV into VGA port

Nintendo 64: S-Video over SCART cable into AV1

Super Nintendo: RGBS over SCART cable into AV2

Digital Set-top Box: Component cable into AV3, using pass-through SCART adapter.

My down/up aren't nearly as high on the console as they are on every other device in my household, but they're more than adequate.

I've done a tiny bit of research, and from what I understand, up/down speeds aren't super important in online gaming; ping is. I've pinged my Wii U a few times, and it's always within acceptable gaming parameters, with 0% packet loss. I can't say as much for the people I'm matched up with, though, and that, I assume, is the reason for the input lag I experience.

I have no idea how matchmaking works in the game, but the logical assumption, it being 2014 and all, is that location is taken into account when choosing who to match with whom. If that is, indeed, the case, then I'm just really unlucky and keep getting matched against people with high ping.

This is clearly an issue with either the console or the game, as every other online game I play has zero input lag. Either way, it's out of my hands, as is, for now, my controller.

EDIT: Just ran a couple more tests. Had the same ping with and without the LAN adapter, and actually had double the down speed (same up) without the LAN adapter.

Lesson learned: Avoid this LAN adapter.

I live in Canada and I just bought this one a week ago for my new Wii U; it works perfectly. I have had no problems with it and it works right out of the box, plug-and-play. Made my connection much better for Smash Bros.

If this is the one you are referring to: http://www.amazon.ca/HDE%C2%AE-Ethernet-Adapter-Nintendo-Port/dp/B003XWD1G2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1420521583&sr=8-1&keywords=ethernet+hde+wii+u

As long as it says it is specifically compatible with the Wii U, which it does (and so do the reviews), then you should be fine to get this one too. I can just personally vouch for the Plugable Technologies one.

u/MrSojiro · 3 pointsr/wiiu

This so much. I live in small town USA, which has very limited internet compared to a lot of the US (9mbps down/0.5mbps up), but use a LAN network adapter for my Wii U and rarely have issues during my matches in Splatoon or Smash 4 (the two Wii U games I primarily play online). It makes a very large difference, WiFi is no where near as reliable as a good old fashioned hard line for internet access. This is the LAN adapter I got (it was cheaper than the official stuff at the time) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003XWD1G2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and have been really happy with it. Says its for the Wii, but will work with the Wii U just fine.

u/marioman63 · 3 pointsr/wiiu

no controllers have been confirmed for smash 4, but your safest option would be the classic controller. i have heard this is a good option if you want to use gamecube controllers on wii u. note that games do not detect the controller as a gamecube one, but it at least gives you the button layout of a gamecube controller for games that use classic controllers. because the system thinks it is a classic controller, it will work in both wii u and wii mode, and therefore brawl and (most likely) smash 4.

"a converter"

I'm assuming you mean this, the Mayflash Adapter. From what I've heard it works great. It just maps the Gamecube controller as though it was a Classic Controller.

u/Randomwaffle23 · 3 pointsr/smashbros

If you want, you can pick up one of these adapters for $15. It lets you use your GC controller as a classic controller.

u/SteroidSandwich · 3 pointsr/gaming

I brought this up before... Over 30 redditors sent me a link to this

u/Ligless · 3 pointsr/gaming
u/tafovov · 3 pointsr/smashbros

You could try one of these.

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BS520SG

It lets you plug the GC controller into a wiimote like a classic controller, so it will work for any game with classic controller support, like brawl.

u/theblamergamer · 3 pointsr/Games

This may solve the problem.

u/DJWhyYou · 3 pointsr/gaming

You can buy adapters that plug into your WiiMote for your GCN controllers.

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BS520SG
I'm not sure if that exact one will be compatible with SSBU, but it is compatible with Brawl when played on WiiU. There are more out there now than will be compatible with SSBU.

u/Kajean · 3 pointsr/gaming

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BS520SG

Apparently this is a thing. So just keep using GC controller I guess.

u/RastaSauce · 3 pointsr/smashbros

There is, but only with an wiimote and adapter for each GC controller.

u/nthny · 3 pointsr/nintendo

There are a number of solutions that involve plugging the controller into the Wii Remote so that the Wii U will read them as a Classic Controller.

For GameCube, you've got a couple of options. You can go with this adapter, which lets you use your existing GameCube controller. There's also this controller from Hori, which is an actual Classic Controller in the exact shape of the GameCube controller. I have both, and they both work well, but I prefer the Hori controller.

For N64, there's this adapter. It's the same idea as the GameCube adapter linked above. I haven't used this one myself, so I can't tell you from experience how well it works.

Because all of these options register as Classic Controllers, they have the advantage of being compatible with any Wii or Wii U game that uses it, which is very many of them. For N64 games on the Wii U Virtual Console, you'll be able to adjust the button mapping in the options menu to make sure everything plays just the way you remember it.

I hope this is helpful. Enjoy your Wii U, and welcome to the club!

u/Gammapod · 3 pointsr/wiiu

There's only one game in Nintendo Land that requires a Nunchuk, but it's one of the most fun (it's the Metroid one). The rest only need Wii Remotes (be sure you buy ones with MotionPlus, though, as the Zelda game requires it).

For Brawl, you can use either a Wii Remote, Wii Remote + Nunchuk (my personal favorite), Wii Remote + Classic Controller, or a Gamecube controller. There are no Gamecube controller ports on the Wii U, though, so you'd have to use an adapter.

Mario Kart Wii can be controlled with a Wii Remote, Wii Remote + Nunchuk, or Wii Remote + Classic Controller. I wouldn't recommend buying any Classic Controllers unless you plan to play a lot of Wii games. The newer Pro Controllers are better, but are incompatible with Wii games.

edit: Linked to a gamecube adapter.

u/ArmyDude956 · 3 pointsr/smashbros

Get this third party adapter, I have it and it works perfectly.

It makes it register as a Classic Controller in the game, so the game would have to support Classic Controllers for it to work.

u/lorderk · 3 pointsr/SSBPM

There is a WiiU in the breakroom at my work, we use 4 of These to play Brawl, and Brawl Minus

u/PJRobinson · 3 pointsr/smashbros

[You could always buy third party adapters] (http://www.amazon.co.uk/GC-Controller-Adapter-Wii/dp/B00BS520SG). They plug into the wiimote and trick the console into thinking you're using a classic controller

Mayflash Nintendo GameCube Controller Adapter for Wii/Wii U by Mayflash http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BS520SG/ref=cm_sw_r_udp_awd_yaPnub0XQB9YN

I've been using this for the past couple months, works great

u/ScorchRaserik · 3 pointsr/wiiu

http://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-Nintendo-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Wii/dp/B00BS520SG

It plugs into the Wiimote and treats the GC controller like a Classic Controller.

u/Oshtoby · 3 pointsr/SSBPM

Project M on the Wii U will only support Wiimote, Wiimote and Nunchuk, Wii Classic Controller, and Wii Classic Controller Pro. It will NOT support the Wii U Pro controller, the Wii U Gamepad or the 4 port Gamecube Adapter that plugs directly into the Wii U's USB port.

Now, what you CAN do to play with a Gamecube controller is buy a Gamecube Controller to Wii Classic Controller converter. There are only two that I know of. They are these two links:

http://raphnet.com/products/gc_to_wiimote/index.php?category=

http://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-Nintendo-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Wii/dp/B00BS520SG

These will make your Gamecube controller plug into the bottom of your Wiimote and make it act like a Wii Classic Controller with all the functionality of a Gamecube Controller.

u/Bill_H_Cosby · 3 pointsr/smashbros
u/Neversoft · 3 pointsr/wiiu

You can get GCN to Wii Remote adapters (gives you a GCN connector on the Wii Remote and even works with the Wavebird) and I think they're programmable so you can map the buttons how you like. So hopefully, a dedicated Fightstick shouldn't be necessary for those of you who prefer the GCN controller... Personally I'm shit at Smash Bros regardless of the controller :D

Here you go

u/ZombieHousefly · 3 pointsr/wiiu

>except GameCube controllers

There are adapters that convert Gamecube controllers to classic controllers though.

edit: There is a lie on that product page - it is not compatible with all games supported by the Wii U Pro Controller.

u/rageaholic55 · 3 pointsr/smashbros

You can use a Gamecube Controller. Nintendo does have a problem with not patching/updating games. I hope, now that they're finally doing DLC, that maybe they've changed their tune on that (Probably not though).

u/ZombieLivesMatter · 3 pointsr/wiiu
u/ngs428 · 3 pointsr/WiiHacks

You can’t use that usb to plug in controllers.

If your Wii does not have GC controller ports you will have to see if you can find a GC to wiimote adapter.

https://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Wii-Nintendo/dp/B00YH3NWTW

I have never tried the item at the above link. Just an example.

u/Ninja_looter_Deluxe · 3 pointsr/smashbros

Well in that case you're looking for the PM3.6dev packet, or one of the external fan mods of project M like legacy xp. https://youtu.be/tDY6wK1F1p8

Or something like project M infinity.
https://youtu.be/bGTVx5c3Gqc

Installation of hackless Wii mods on a Wii u works basically the same as installing it on a original wii. All that's required is a 6gb(depending on the modpack) sd card.

However be warned, gamecube controllers do not work in this scenario, and if you want you to use one you'll need to buy a wiimote to gcc converter such as
Mayflash GameCube Controller
Adapter for Wii & Wii U (Dual Pack), White https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00YH3NWTW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_GCsDDbVNF1GZ9

Or a gcc that plugs into a wiimote

Another warning: The characters mentioned above are not cut characters, and therefore are in the game via isp mods, not through salvaging data found on disk. Therefore these characters are of a significantly lower quality then the ones found in the base roster, just a warning.

Installing PM into a wii is little more then putting the correct files on the sd card and loading into your wii and running the boot loader.

For PM specifically, all you need to do is load up the stage builder menu and the boot loader will auto run.

u/TheWalrusIsChad · 3 pointsr/wiiu

No, but these work. They plug into your Wii Remote and make the system think your GameCube controllers are Classic controllers. No rumble, but everything else works fine.

If you look you can usually find them on eBay for about $17 a pair. Also good if you have a lot of N64 games on the Wii U you want to play.

u/GAGMR7 · 3 pointsr/wiiu

You could get an 8bitdo controller & wireless receiver. It would be cheaper than getting a classic or classic pro controller. Dunno how good they are tho.

u/Lord_Burrito666 · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I don't have an arcade stick for the Switch, BUT... I've hard the Hori Mini arcade stick gets uncomfortable for those with big hands and it's less stable during use, slipping and sliding, than the RAPV one. I'd recommend saving up for the RAPV one if you're interested in a quality stick. The only downside is you can only use these sticks in docked mode, UNLESS you buy this: http://stores.horiusa.com/multiport-usb-playstand-for-nintendo-switch/

I have no first hand knowledge of how the playstand stands up but it does have really good reviews on Amazon:
https://www.amazon.com/HORI-Nintendo-Switch-Multiport-USB-Playstand/dp/B01A827XHM/

u/nathantheprofit · 3 pointsr/smashbros

The PG adapters aren’t available yet, but the Hori Multiport USB Playstand is a great option if you already own a GameCube adapter (or you could just buy a USB Type A to Type C adapter)

u/suitupalex · 3 pointsr/smashbros

HORI Nintendo Switch Stand: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01A827XHM?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf

Had it for a couple weeks now to play DBFZ with my stick without a TV. Only downside is apparently it's slow charging compared to the full dock.

u/TemptedTemplar · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

There is a portable playstand with two usb ports.

there is also a wireless adapter for OG gamecube controllers.

And there are straight up wireless gamecube pro controllers.

If you meant "portable dock that i can take over to friends house", then no. No third party dock option is totally safe for use. Youre better off just taking the normal dock.

u/CustomFighter2 · 3 pointsr/smashbros

Here is the Amazon link if you didn't already find it.

u/Climax0 · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Simple just either get a USB C adapter like [this one for ex.] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LXAUUTG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1) (Doesn't have to be specifically this obv, any USB C adapter should be fine).

You could also use this USB Hub charging stand from Hori.

Both solutions will work for any USB devices that can be used on the Switch including the GC adapter.

u/rydamusprime17 · 3 pointsr/WiiHacks

Do yourself a favor and just order a Wii2HD adapter so you can use a HDMI cord. Games look so great on my 50" Bravia.

They are cheap and i have had this specific one for about 2 years now and it has caused me no issues.

u/Zero_Risk · 3 pointsr/patientgamers

If it helps, I've used one of these HDMI adapters on my Wii for years and never had any issue with it. They're only $10.

That being said, the Wii U will play original Wii games, and has some great games that your kiddo might like as well. My son (also 5 years old) really likes Yoshi's Wooly World and Mario Kart 8. We've gone through Breath of the Wild together twice as well; though he hands off the controller to me whenever he spots bad guys or has trouble maneuvering Link somewhere (really neat to watch him work out what to do in the puzzle shrines though).

u/PWH187 · 2 pointsr/MarioKartWii

I've recommended this cable that Hyperkin put out a couple years ago to a few people and they all say it works great. Those Wii2HDMI adapters have been flooded by cheap Chinese versions and its 50/50 whether or not you'll get a good one.

u/dualtohex · 2 pointsr/WiiHacks

If you want, here's a link. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0753CZ8MC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_kNUIDbHQ606YZ

Though searching for "portholic wii2hdmi" will get you it as the top 3 results, one for $10 without an hdmi cable, and one for $15 with an hdmi cable

u/TheManWithNoLegs · 2 pointsr/wii

I actually have a wii2hdmi converter, it’s just upscaled. Either way the quality is pretty solid and I like just having HDMI cords to deal with instead of juggling between proprietary cables or even monster cables.

u/VirtualAlex · 2 pointsr/Gamecube
u/_Robbie_ · 2 pointsr/pics

I don't know if you're familiar with it or would have any interest in it, but I use a Wii to HDMI converter from amazon. There is a surprisingly noticeable difference in picture quality.

Originally I used an RCA to cable converter, then I switched to an RCA to HDMI converter, but the one that I linked is nice because it cuts out the need for an extra power cord and improves picture quality at the same time. There are plenty of options and brands to choose from, I just went with the one that had solid reviews, and it has been great since I purchased it.

u/PathAdder · 2 pointsr/smashbros

This Hori dock has a usb-c port for charging and 4 USB ports. So if you really wanted to, you could charge your switch in tabletop mode while playing 8-player smash with two adapters plugged in (along with 8 gc controllers), and you wouldn’t even have to sacrifice rumble.

u/jeriku · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I have been using this dock as a primary dock since Aug of 2018. It has never failed me and works wonders.

I use the Nintendo power brick to power it so that could be why.

u/qwertylerqw · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Something like this would be what you want

u/0cci · 2 pointsr/smashbros

HORI USB Switch stand

This does not have the GCC-Adapter integrated, but it costs like half of the PG adapter. You can also charge your Switch through it and it has 4 USB ports. The only downside is, that you can't plug this stand directly into a tv, as it has no HDMI output. Most people have a GCC adapter anyway, so this one is a really good option and I already use one. Hope this helps.

u/somenorn · 2 pointsr/AmiiboCanada

I use component cables to put my Wii to an HDTV to play GC games. I find it's better than composite cables, and I've read that HD converters have necessary lag and some image infidelities otherwise anyways.

https://www.amazon.ca/Nintendo-Licensed-Component-Video-Cable/dp/B000JJRV90/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1503815452&sr=8-10&keywords=wii+component+cable

This is the cable, but this listing is just to show you what it looks like - don't spend anything near that... search amazon for a generic 'wii component cable' and you should be able to find one for like $10-$20

u/your-opinions-false · 2 pointsr/crtgaming

With Wii you should buy some Wii component cables for like $6, then using those, go into your Wii's settings and set your resolution to 480p. Play this on your HD TV - component cables in 480p look much better than the yellow composite cable that comes with the system. You should also play your GameCube games on your Wii to take advantage of its component cables. Note that GameCube games will not automatically play in 480p, so you'll need to hold B when starting up a GameCube game and "activate progressive scan."

N64 games are a bit more complicated. There's no cheap way to play them well on an HD TV, so if you think it's worth it you might look on Craigslist for a CRT TV. Try to find perhaps a Sony "Trinitron" flat screen TV that isn't an HD CRT TV. You'll also want to find an s-video cable for N64 if your CRT TV supports it. S-video gives a better picture than composite.

u/Sound_of_Science · 2 pointsr/smashbros

I think it still depends on the LCD. Game Mode generally just cuts out all the extra post-processing things the TV normally does to the image right before it displays it, so it helps the lag tremendously.

The next biggest improvement you could make to an LCD is to use component cables instead of the composite cables included with the Wii. Component cables transmit data much faster to HDTVs, while CRTs can usually only work with composite cables. If I am remembering correctly, component cables transmit a digital signal while a composite cable transmits an analog signal.

Furthermore, composite cables (and CRT TVs) cannot send a higher resolution than 480i. Component cables can send 480p up to 1080p (i = interlacing; p = progressive). Using a component cable with an LCD in 480p is optimal.

I can't quite remember as much detail as I would like, but I'm just regurgitating everything I learned from this page: http://www.reddit.com/r/smashbros/wiki/lag

That's a fantastic article, and I recommend you read it as soon as you get the chance.

u/retrogs · 2 pointsr/wii

I have these component cables and they work really well. Can't go wrong for $6. Never tried the hdmi adapter though.

u/DarkLink_13 · 2 pointsr/wiiu

Nintendo made one for the Wii which will also work with the Wii U. Here is a link to one on Amazon:

u/cheezgear · 2 pointsr/wiiu

I think that if you have the component cables (same cable used for the original Wii) you can use HDMI for video only and then use the component audio cables for sound. I did a google search on this and it looks like some have had success doing this, but I haven't tried it myself. You can find some generic cables on amazon for about 5 or 10 dollars, doesn't hurt to try it out. Better than buying a TV at least.

http://www.amazon.com/Wii-V-Cable-Nintendo/dp/B0011E4J2Y/ref=sr_1_8?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1396986978&sr=1-8&keywords=nintendo+wii+u+audio+cable

u/Highfro · 2 pointsr/wiiu

you can use a wii a/v cable and Gold Plated 3.5mm Stereo to 2RCA or 3.5mm Jack to 2-RCA to solve this issue

u/poopstixPS2 · 2 pointsr/SSBM

CRT monitors are actually great for console use. If you have a Wii, get one of these bad boys to connect it to your console without any conversion/lag (assuming the CRT monitor has a VGA port). Nothing looks better than progressive scan Melee on a CRT monitor. It's buttery smooth.

Note: for audio you will need to plug those white/red coax cables into a portable speaker of some kind, since CRT monitors generally don't have speakers. For a 1/8" jack, you could use this.

u/NorthernDen · 2 pointsr/nintendo

Better to pick up something like this. However you may need to plug it into an analog signal at the same time once, to get the video to switch over.

It looks like you can get a VGA cable for the Wii here, made by hyperkin. I don't know if it is an added benefit to you that it has PS3 connectivity too but it seems like that would get the job done for you. 480 progressive would be the highest resolution for your Wii.

4x Wii/Gamecube Extension Cables https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001AI7CF2/

u/CJtheWriter · 2 pointsr/AnimalCrossing

I don't what kind of controller you're using but these extension cables are really convenient and cheap for the kind of setup you have. I hate putting my consoles on the floor, so I've been using them.

Good to see some Gamecube love here.

u/mdrew86 · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I own a Pro Controller, several OEM Gamecube controllers (i.e., Wavebird wireless), as well as the new Smash Gamecube controller, so I suppose my feedback holds some weight here. I love my Pro controller and use it for just about everything, except for games which require a Joycon such as Mario Party and Pokemon. Since my TV is pretty far from my couch, having the wireless capability is an obvious plus. The same holds true for the OEM Wavebird wireless controllers I own. The new Smash Gamecube controller, in my opinion, feels identical to the original Gamecube controller. I am not overly-analytical when it comes to this stuff, but I can't feel the difference whatsoever. The thumbsticks are tight, and the buttons have a satisfying feel. There is zero input lag which is important for fighting games (my Pro controller sometimes experiences interference from various Wi-fi/Bluetooth devices in the room). My only gripe is that there isn't a home or capture button, so you will need a second controller connected for those functions. If you are like me and sit very far from the TV, you will need an extension cable. I purchased these and they work great- zero input lag.

https://www.amazon.com/4x-Wii-Gamecube-Extension-Cables/dp/B001AI7CF2/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1542307145

tldr; the Smash GC controller is great, worth the money

u/Alseho · 2 pointsr/Gamecube

You can get some of the extension cords for the gamecube controllers, splice the end that receives the gamecucbe controller plug, and BOOM! New plug for the controller. All you got to do is replace the old one and put in the new one. You can get different colored ones, to fit your controller, or leave them mismatching to make them stand out as yours.

u/Sylnic · 2 pointsr/SSBPM

Setup was easy. You can find instructions on the amazon page and elsewhere to get it installed, and once you have the drivers+software, everything is in english. There's tons of resources for using an old deinterlacing program called amarectv with the device, but mine seemed to work and look fine off of just OBS. I never had any luck with amarec.

I never really had any issues with the device on my laptop, other than messing with the settings until I got it to a quality I liked. My desktop didn't seem to like it for some reason, but that's had a multitude of other issues, so I don't think it was the capture device.

Yes, S-video would look better, though I can't exactly say how much better. You can read up on the differences a bit here, and here's a random youtube video comparing different input recordings on PS2 games. Also keep in mind that you need an S-video output cable for your wii and a CRT that has S-Video input. A good chunk of TVs seem to have them, but not all.

As long as the splitter is powered, it shouldn't add any delay, and shouldn't take away from the quality either.

All good on the questions! I had to figure a lot of this stuff out myself, and ended up wasting money on different things because of it x.x

Edit: Oh, and for the recording 4:3 thing, that's just the aspect ratio on the image. The video being recorded from the capture card will be coming in 4:3(as that's what the image on the CRT is). OBS streams + records on a default 16:9 widescreen image, but keep in mind that's the full stream picture, including the capture, overlays, player cam, and whatever else you want to put on there. If you're streaming, you'll likely want to keep the 16:9 output, so you can do something like this, where the gameplay takes up one side of the stream, and you still have space on the other side for a camera and other information.

u/KayBeats · 2 pointsr/SSBM

>Good composite setup - Avermedia C039, use a S-video cable for wii that has S video and composite. Plug the S video in to the capture card and the composite in to the TV and use splitters for audio. OBS has built in deinterlace software that works well.

I caved and bought an ethernet cable and LAN adaptor for the Spongebob v Patrick Splatfest. Best $28.47 I've ever spent! I get additional value from it since I love playing MK8 online.

u/LiteTheIronMan · 2 pointsr/wiiu

the Wii LAN Adapter and similar third-party USB peripherals are compatible with the Wii U. it's a USB LAN adapter with an Ethernet port. you plug the Ethernet cable into the adapter, plug the Adapter into the Wii U, plug the other end of the Ethernet cable into your router/modem/etc., set up Wired Connections on your Wii U options, and if everything works you should be good to go.

this is what I own. I don't know where to find a first-party version. here's a cheaper alternative but I can't speak for its reliability.

u/yourwifeandkids · 2 pointsr/smashbros

Not sure there's that much variety. This (http://www.amazon.com/Support-UtechSmart-Ethernet-Chromebook-Specific/dp/B00F41TWAO/ref=zg_bs_13983791_10) is the best selling highest rated one on amazon, but I'm pretty sure this is the one officially endorsed by Nintendo (http://www.amazon.com/HDE-Ethernet-Adapter-Nintendo-Port/dp/B003XWD1G2/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1416550970&sr=1-1&keywords=wii+u+lan+adapter).

This is what I did to ensure excellent online experience

  1. Check that your TV has GAME MODE "on"

  2. Use a WiiU Lan Adapter

  3. Call your internet provider to ensure that your speed is infact, what it should be - also using an internet speed test (try CNET's)

  4. Check your modem/router. I bought a new router which was vastly superior to my old Belkin POS

  5. test your connection with other devices (maybe WiiU hardware issue)

  6. ensure your family/SO isn't hogging the bandwidth while you play.

I wouldn't know what to recommend, I haven't used any 10/100/1000Mbps USB3.0 ethernet adapters.

The adapter I've been using with my wii u for the past 2+ years is a HPE-branded 10/100Mbps USB2.0 model (this one - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003XWD1G2/). I assume it will work with the switch (can't think of any reason why it wouldn't), and plan to give it a try, but I can't guarantee compatibility 100%. I'm not planning to game online with the switch, so even if it doesn't work, eh, I'm not too concerned about it. I have good 5Ghz AC wifi to fall back on.

u/ErionHashimoto · 2 pointsr/nintendo

I tried the one from DHE and it only worked for about two weeks. Luckily, when I contacted them about it the response was quick and I was refunded the purchase without having to send the faulty unit back.

After that, I ended up going with the official Nintendo adapter on Play-Asia.com (currently only $24). It's been working for over a year now without any problems. I think it's worth the extra money. It's from Japan but it works on my NA Wii U.

Amazon sells the Mayflash version, it just reads the GC as a Classic Controller:

https://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-Nintendo-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Wii/dp/B00BS520SG

Not an 'official' product but you definitely don't need to mod a controller.

u/ss4444gogeta · 2 pointsr/wiiu

I've heard people have had success with this one.

u/erwan · 2 pointsr/nintendo

If you don't want to get a classic controller, you can get this: http://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-Nintendo-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Wii/dp/B00BS520SG

But it may be better to wait for the official Gamecube controller adapter that will be released for Super Smash Bros.

u/Spockrocket · 2 pointsr/wiiu

They also work if you buy an adapter to have them recognized as Classic controllers, e.g. this

u/minizanz · 2 pointsr/wiiu

all n64 vc games on the virtual wii need the classic controller pro. you can use the official ones, hori battle pads, or the pdp ones. if you install nintendont on the vwii you can use wiiU pro controllers, ps3, or ps4 controllers or the usb game cube adapters. all of them on the wiiu require a full pro controller of any gen (so non wiimote)

|

you can also inject roms so long as you own one game with that emulator. so if a game is not on the wiiU but you have it you can use caffeine on the current firmware to hack any rom into virtual console.

|

edit- there is also this guy from mayflash that will make your gamecube controllers plug into a wiimote and work as classic controller pro https://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-Nintendo-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Wii/dp/B00BS520SG/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1469665411&sr=8-3&keywords=mayflash+gamecube+adapter , mayflash also sells this guy that is better than the nintendo smash game cube adapter https://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Port/dp/B00RSXRLUE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1469665411&sr=8-1&keywords=mayflash+gamecube+adapter

edit2- if you plan on playing online you need the lan adapter as well, there are lots of 3rd party for that as well since you only need the same chipset (ASIX AX88772)

They will come out there. It is released world wide, there are just far more people who want them then adapters. And like i said, this this should work, I just haven't personally tested it.The game will see it as a classic controller but the game supports classic controllers. This Should work too. Its not really a gamecube controller, but should feel like one.
Or you could play the game with a great Pro controller, or gamepad. The game cube controller isn't the only way to do it.

I'd consider this as well. I have one and it's great. It should do all the things you want, but with actual GC controllers.

u/markymawk · 2 pointsr/SSBPM

wii games do work with GC controllers, you just need a wii that has Gamecube pluggy holes. USB adapters won't work outside of Nintendont.

you can either get a new Wii, or get an adapter to plug into your Wii remote. This probably won't be allowed at tourneys but if you're playing on your own it's a cheaper option

u/Jaws12 · 2 pointsr/wiiu

From what I can gather, the Wii DDR game supports classic controllers. You can hook GameCube port peripherals to WiiMotes with this adapter (Warning!: These adapters only seem to work with original WiiMotes, not MotionPlus WiiMotes, so be warned!).

I own three of these adapters myself and they work quite well for using GameCube controllers as classic controllers in other games, so they might work for this as well! Good luck!

u/aunaste · 2 pointsr/nintendo

I have a one of these, http://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-Nintendo-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Wii/dp/B00BS520SG
It works just fine, the tricky part is remembering to press the start button multiple times for + and - on the classic controller.

u/wuzup11 · 2 pointsr/SSBPM

Ok so this question does get asked (and answered) a lot. I know Reddit's search sucks, but given the number of other posts about this topic, I'm sure it'll come up with something.

But to answer your question: you can use a GameCube controller for PM on the Wii U, but you can't use the Nintendo adapter (or any USB adapter that plugs into the system). You have to use an adapter that plugs into a Wiimote to emulate a Classic Controller, like this one, because the Wii's operating system was never designed to take GameCube controller inputs from any USB ports, and neither was Brawl, and neither was PM.

u/Bent_00 · 2 pointsr/BrawlMinus

This adapter will let you use a GC controller, but only 1 per adapter.

It connects to a Wii Remote, and the GC controller registers as a Classic Controller.

u/SlibIsSandwich · 2 pointsr/gaming

Yeah. I believe they have them. Its the only way so far you'll get the feel of a GC controller on the WiiU. While looking for it I found this as well but personally I don't like the looks of it:

For a slightly more detailed answer...

What you have there on your TV is a Component input set of connectors. Component video works by splitting the video signal on 3 separate wires which correspond to Red, Green and Blue. The standard Wii video cable connects to Composite input. Composite video outputs the video signal on a single Yellow wire.

Now, the Wii is capable of outputting Component signal through a compatible cable (not sure where you're located, but here's a link on Amazon for it). This would actually be the best video output the WIi is capable of and I totally recommend this, it's what I use too. Using this should be straightforward on your TV, connect everything to its corresponding color (Audio is on top, Video is on bottom). Be sure to select 480p HDTV video signal in the Wii's settings.

Depending on the capabilities of your TV, you could get by with the standard Composite Wii cable (Yellow, White and Red) by connecting the Yellow connector to the Green input of your TV, but whether this works or not depends on the TV (my big ass Philips Android TV, for example, accepts only Component input on these connectors, it does not allow Composite signal and would only display a monochrome fuzzy image when I try this).

u/TAMANEGIBOY · 2 pointsr/Gamecube

Here’s what I bought.
Amazon Link

They aren’t official but I’ve been using them for over 2 years now. But the CRT thing is really up to you. Component makes GameCube games really crisp but then you start to see how aged some games can be. You could get official cables but it won’t really make a difference.

u/Dividinq · 2 pointsr/SSBM

If finding a CRT becomes a problem, you can also settle for a monitor with a low response time (~1 ms) as an alternative, along with a wii2HDMI adapter. This way, your monitor can double for melee and PC gaming.

Currently there isn't. I believe there are people working on getting the GC adapter working in Mario Kart and Smash, so maybe there will be a way for other Wii games in the future.

The least complicated way is a wii2hdmi dongle: https://www.amazon.com/Musou-Converter-Output-Upscaling-Adapter/dp/B015H7PICK

u/snakecorp · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Do you know how USB charging stands like the Hori Multiport USB Playstand with no video output would affect the Switch? Is it safe to use?

It has an extra USB port (compared to the Nintendo dock) so I wonder when 4 devices are plugged in, would that would draw too much power? Or would it go through the stand and not the Switch itself? Maybe I should've paid more attention in my Intro to Circuits course...

u/whatifwewereburritos · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Hey guys so with smash coming out it got me thinking about a portable setup. I have one of the hori playstands and love it and was thinking of getting a usb c to usb a adapter to plug a gamecube adapter into it in tabletop. Then I found a new hori playstand that has 2 usb ports and a charging passthrough.

I don't want to spend more on a new playstand and i like the height that i get from the one i have and started to search for a dongle that does the same thing. I found this that essentially does the same thing (usb a ports and a charging passthrough) and was wondering if it would work and not damage the switch. Understanding that switches have bricked in the past from using third party products through the usb c port would this be safe to use.

TL;DR I want to play smash in handheld and want to know if this dongle (no hdmi) would damage my switch

u/laivindil · 1 pointr/gameswap

Are you sure? I'm looking at it on amazon and the wii end looks a lot like the port on the gamecube, but it also says this under product features,

"This component video cable is for the Wii and will not work with any other system. In addition, the Nintendo GameCube Component Video Cable will not work with the Wii."
here

u/fishbulbx · 1 pointr/hometheater

The tv has the standard component hookup, this is the cable I'm using and I've re-seated it a few times. http://www.amazon.com/Wii-Component-Video-Cable-Pc/dp/B000JJRV90

u/FoolsRun · 1 pointr/gamecollecting

They'll look the same as they do running on a Wii with component cables. Which is to say waaaay better. Metroid Prime might bring tears to your eyes.

So if you're looking to get the best out of your Gamecube games and don't have millidooms' incredible luck, and you have a Wii, the official Wii component cables are $40 from Amazon and will get you the same performance.

u/mistakenotmy · 1 pointr/techsupport

Most of the time VGA inputs on projectors will also do component video as well. So some simple cable adaptors will work.

First you need to output from the Wii component video. So get something like this if you don't already have one: https://www.amazon.com/Component-AV-Cable-Nintendo-Wii-HDTV/dp/B000OFSBL6/ (no idea if this one is good, just an example)

Then you need to change that to VGA. So a 3RCA Female to VGA adaptor like: https://www.amazon.com/CableWholesale-Component-Video-Adapter-30H1-50200/dp/B00JMC9CLK (again just an example) Just be careful to get a RCA female or you will also need to get RCA couplers because both ends (Wii and adaptor) will be male.

u/kolarbear · 1 pointr/wiiu

Hey guys, noob question here. Long story short, I need to know if Wii HD component cables would work for the wii u? The rest of this comment is background to the problem I am trying to solve.

I am trying to connect my wii u to my television and soundbar separately. Currently, I am using the HDMI cord to connect the wii u to the tv, and then an RCA audio output cord to connect the tv to the soundbar. For the most part, this setup works fine, EXCEPT for netflix. For some reason, I get scratchy audio output from wii u's netflix app when it is connected to my television. When I just watch on the gamepad, though, the sound/video quality on netflix are fine, which leads me to believe that my television is screwing with the netflix audio signal. This now leads me to my question.

On the back of the wii u, there is a video out port, right? Has anyone tried purchasing original wii HD cables and hooking it up to their television? Here is a link to what I was thinking of getting:

http://www.amazon.com/Component-AV-Cable-Nintendo-Wii-HDTV/dp/B000OFSBL6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1406827513&sr=8-1&keywords=wii+hd+cables

My plan would be to stream the video to the television, and then purchase an HDMI to RCA converter to send the audio directly from the wii u to the soundbar, which would hopefully end the problem.

Anyways, would a cable as the one I posted in the amazon link work for this? I appreciate any insight into the problem, thank you!

u/ApatheticToaster · 1 pointr/SSBM

The most common high quality capture card you can use would be the the Elgato Game Capture HD. You would want 2 component cables, at least 5 splitters, and a component connection to a Wii. There is free software called OBS that you can use to stream and record and there are a number of options if you are looking to just record (there is even software that Elgato offers) but most like to use VirtualDub. This of course can be very expensive. If you are looking for cheaper options there are cheaper capture cards available such as the Dazzle and the Diamond. Both work fine but you won't achieve as crisp as a picture. These are the cards that I have had experience with but I have also heard good things from the Avermedia.

u/DrShafty · 1 pointr/wii

I think it makes a noticeable difference. It mainly makes all the colors brighter and the blacks blacker. I bought this one on amazon for $5; definitely worth it. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000OFSBL6/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

u/OmegaVesko · 1 pointr/wii

Yeah, it doesn't even support an Ethernet cable connection out of the box. If you wanted to connect it wired for some reason, you'd have to buy one of these.

u/fishersbeard · 1 pointr/wiiu

There is an easy and correct way to do this with the Wii U but there's an issue - you need the gamepad. If you borrow a gamepad from someone you can access the system settings and send the sound out of A/V cables in addition to the HDMI port. You can buy the official one from Nintendo here but I'm sure this one on Amazon works just as well.

Then all you would need is something like this to plug in normal consumer-grade headphones.

u/teh_al3x · 1 pointr/AskGames

Don't the Wii and PS2 come default with a composite cable and simply the adapter SCART you have in your picture?

If for some reason your PS2 didn't, you can get one of those cables here.

As for the Wii I saw that it only supports composite and YPbPr (Red/Green/Blue RCA combo) in the NTSC region, which is a bummer because YPbPr converters are expensive and composite isn't the best quality for the Wii... But yeah you can use the composite converter for the Wii as well with the right cable (which, again, should have come with your Wii normally, it did with mine).

u/coilerr · 1 pointr/SSBM

You can connect a Wii to a CRt monitor and it looks great, via this cable . And its the perfect netplay monitor as It has virtually no lag. Definitely go for it.

What I'm talking about (wii S-video + AV cable) is one cable. Because the Wii comes with a standard AV cable (albeit with a proprietary connector to the Wii, but the output is universally accepted AV composite cables: yellow, red, white for video and left and right audio.) the cable with the s-video is the same thing, except it has one more wire that ends in s-video output, and this will plug into the ElGato. So, you do need this single cable to capture it via ElGato. Here's the link: link

u/Loyotaemi · 1 pointr/wiiu

I actually bought a generic wii lan adapter similar to this. However, the brand I got was HDE . I was lucky that people were asking questions about it because it was there i figured out it worked for the Wii U. In my case, there was no issue with this one. It worked right out of the box bag. I can't say anything about the one you currently have, but I can say that not all the offbrand ones have this issue.

u/M-Tiger · 1 pointr/wiiu

The number one thing I recommend is to get a wired network adapter. I grabbed one of them off Amazon for like $10 and haven't regretted it.

With ZombiU, you'll have to go into the game settings and tell it to pump the sound out of the controller. You will have to use both the controller and monitor to play the game though.

With MH3U, after you update the game, you can go into the settings and enable Type 2 for the controller for off-screen play. This will make all the audio for the game come out of the controller, and the controller will mirror the monitor. You can turn off the monitor and just use the controller, or you can use the monitor and not look at the controller, whichever is more convenient for you. (With Type 1, the monitor will show the game and the controller will show some touchscreen options, sorta like you're playing a giant 3DS. I forget if audio comes out of the controller in this case or not.)

Btw, I recommend using some nice headphones with the gamepad, as well as setting the sound output for the gamepad to surround.

u/Tainysi · 1 pointr/wiiu

I personally have one. It's definitely way more comforting to use than wireless. I believe most people have this one http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003XWD1G2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

u/aranyx · 1 pointr/Games

I was also getting some really awful network speeds on my Wii U. I ended up picking up a USB Wired Network adapter and that seems to have fixed the problem entirely.

u/MerylasFalguard · 1 pointr/wiiu

I think it definitely has one of the better stories of any Zelda game, but it's infamous for being a love it/hate it based solely around the controls. For this one, you're required to play it with a Wiimote & Nunchuk, and the Wiimote specifically requires Wii Motion Plus. I don't know that I'd trust a third-party controller for it, since idk how they work with Motion Plus, but the cheapest I'm able to find an official first-party Nintendo Wii Remote is this one (which has the Motion Plus installed into it) on Amazon for $32. If you're alright getting one pre-owned, go in-store to GameStop and see if you can find one (pre-owned for $25) that says "Wii MotionPlus Inside!" at the bottom of the controller. If you can't and still feel like going this route, there's also the option to buy the Motion Plus on it's own ($12 used on GameStop, or cheaper on Amazon but you'll need to wait for shipping on it) and you can plug that into a regular Wiimote.

u/OccupyGravelpit · 1 pointr/wiiu

For 4 kids, I'd prioritize getting those Wii remotes upgraded with motion plus (if they aren't already):

http://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Wii-MotionPlus-Motion-Adapter-White/dp/B004V13D0I

And nunchucks to match. That'll do you really well in Nintendoland, Mario Kart, Smash Brothers, Wii Party U, 3D World, New Super Mario Bros Wiiu, and Wii Sports Club -- which are the best 4 player games on the system.

Also, if you really want them to play on Christmas morning, plug the Wii U in the night before and download the relevant software updates, then repackage. Otherwise it might be a few hours.

u/Ranefea · 1 pointr/zelda

Hahahaha, well I only mentioned it because you didn't mention having an NES. Better get on that, then! =P

When I say "not too expensive", I mean like $10 USD. I got mine in 2011 at Gamestop for about that, and I saw them on Amazon for that as well (and a two pack for $16). They also sell wiimote covers that are meant to fit the adapter as well so it's more secure, but they can be kind of bulky, although I have small hands so that may have been more of a personal problem, haha.

u/-MarisaTheCube- · 1 pointr/smashbros

GameCube controllers do work with N64 VC games on the Wii (just tested it, I own Smash 64 on my Wii) but I don't think they work with anything on the Wii U other than Smash 4. You could get an adapter like this one if you really wanted to use GameCube over a Classic Controller, but I'm not seeing the best of reviews for those.

And yeah, a lot of people do say that there is input lag (it's why the VC version isn't recommended for tournaments), but I'm not an expert on it as I don't own an actual N64 to compare. Sorry.

u/maximumzero · 1 pointr/wiiu

Okay so I can't seem to find the one I originally linked you to on Amazon, but I did find this PS2 Controller to Wii Adapter and this Gamecube Controller to Wii Adapter that you could try out. Both seem to have decent reviews on Amazon.

I have not personally used these, but their Wii U Pro Controller Adapter has gotten some glowing reviews & impressions from those that use it, so the company as a whole is probably legit.

u/LadyDraconian · 1 pointr/gaming

Okay as I posted this before.. Those who do NOT know this... If you downloaded any game cube games on your wii. I.e. from the store.. You can transfer them to your wii u as long as they are digital... And about that game cube controller issue and not being able to use it... There is an adapter, for cheap I migh add, you can buy for your wii controllers to turn it into a gamecube controller or rather plug your gc controller into the wii u.. :) Bout the only thing you can't do is put a gc disc in it..

They are very scarce at the moment, but I played (and a blast tonight) with two of these:

http://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-Nintendo-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Wii/dp/B00BS520SG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1416557771&sr=8-1&keywords=Mayflash+GC+Controller+Adapter

This does require you to have wii-motes, but I can confirm that it work just fine. I will be getting the official nintendo one, but for now this shall do.

u/anothershittyalt · 1 pointr/smashbros

They offer an adapter for the Wii U, but paying 30 dollars for 1 controller port as opposed to what should be 20 dollars for 4 ports doesn't sound particularly enticing...

Other than that, I got nothing. Hunting for the official adapter is gonna be hard as shit for a while.

u/L_Caret_Two · 1 pointr/SSBPM

Melee runs with the adapter through Nintendont, which is a Gamecube loader. It doesn't load Wii games. The reason it works with Nintendont is because that program supports USB controllers.

That said, I run PM on my Wii U using my Brawl disc and an SD card. I use the PM launcher. I use this to connect a Gamecube controller. But yeah, a wired solution would be preferable.

u/___Preek · 1 pointr/wiiu

No. I don't use a gamecube shaped classic controller. I use a original gamecube controller with an adapter into my Wiimotes. Don't say stuff like that if you don't know what I own, my friend.

I have both the Mayflash Adapter and the PDP Fight Pad

If you already have the GCN controller, the adapter works well enough, specially if you want it for VC games. Every once on a while, The adapter disconnects mid gameplay for a few secs, so that can be bothersome, I used it with a pc like you intend to, works just fine. The downside is you have less buttons than the classic controller (no select/- and only 3 shoulder buttons) and the L and R are recognized as such instead of ZL/ZR which can be confusing in some instances.

The PDP Fight pad works beautifully, has all the buttons and the right analog stick is actually a stick as opposed to the shorter c-stick. The one downside is the controller feels kinda empty, which makes it feel cheap (kinda like the classic controller or those awful gamestop branded GNN controllers), but it only feels cheap cos they are very responsive.

I would recommend the fight pad over the gcn adapter, unless you absolutely positively need the original gcn controller. Havnet used the hori pads, they have turbo built in but as far as i know are pretty similar to the pdp pads.

u/nemeth88 · 1 pointr/wiiu

If the Wii game is Classic Controller compatible, you can still use a Gamecube pad using one of these Wiimote-to-GC adapters: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BS520SG I have one and it works well for SSBB.

However, this only works on Wii games that have the Classic Controller/Classic Controller Pro icon on the box.

The good news is that RE4: Wii supports classic controllers: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_games_that_use_the_Classic_Controller

u/dr_wario_PHD · 1 pointr/wiiu

There are some adapters that allow you to plug your Gamecube controller into a Wii Remote, which should be compatible with games that support the Classic Controller. I had one so I could play Brawl on the Wii U before Smash 4 came out.

Amazon Link to the one I have

u/Reynard_Austin · 1 pointr/GameDeals

Refurbished WiiU Pro straight from Nintendo is usually $200-$250, but it seems they're out of stock right now. Its fully compatible with Wii games and controllers, and most first party games so far support Classic controllers in addition to the Gamepad and WiiU controllers. This here will let you use a Gamecube controller as a "Classic Controller" through the Wii Remote. Mayflash makes some good adapters, I'm absolutely happy with my Classic Controller-PC adapter. The official adapter only works with Sm4sh and Dolphin on the PC currently, so the unoffcial one is needed for other games.

The WiiU is the only system really worth getting in addition to PC right now, it makes a great compliment.

Yo, I just got a CRT with Component input. Is it worth getting a Wii Component cable to play on? I understand the concept of 480i relative to 480p, but I've never actually cared that much about it until now.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CA8636K/

Here's one listed for only $8.

u/SailorMercurySSB · 1 pointr/LifeProTips

There's a subgroup of melee video fidelity heads who would be extremely excited about it, but your average melee player probably isn't in the know about that kind of thing.

As it turns out CRT computer monitors are the cheapest way to get the highest quality video from your melee (480p), so it would definitely be worth hitting up your local melee scene and offering it, if you also explain to them why it's good and how to use it.

You need wii component cables and a component to VGA converter, then you gotta hold B while melee is starting up which gives you a little menu where it asks if you want to enable progressive scan and you say yes, but in all likelihood the screen is black on the monitor since before progressive scan is enabled it probably won't be able to display anything - so you gotta just hit left and then hit A once to select it without looking. But then you're all set and it's BEAUTIFUL!

Tournament organizers in particular would probably like it since they can use it for their live stream setup and have ultra high quality video for the players on stream as well as for the folks at home. It's a thing melee streamers do sometimes if they wanna be super classy with the production value.

Both the pro controller have their strength as weaknesses, so it really depends on what you value more

GameCube controller:
Pros:

  • Comfortable to hold
  • Really well built
  • Near universally used for tournaments
  • No lag because it's wired
  • Don't have to worry about battery life
  • Analog shoulder buttons
  • Notches for the C stick and Analog stick so your directional inputs will be more precise

    Cons:
  • Only one trigger button
  • No Home, Capture, or second pause button
  • Requires an adapter to use
  • Can't use in handheld mode unless you get a portable dock
  • No motion control/HD rumble/Amiibo comparability
  • Lack of buttons and features makes it hard to use for other games
  • There will likely be supply shortages when the new Smash Ultimate GameCube controllers come out

    Misc/Personal Preference:
  • Analog triggers
  • Different button layout

    Pro controller:
    Pros:
  • Very comfortable to hold
  • Really well built
  • Has an extra trigger button
  • Has a home button, capture button, and a second pause button
  • Has motion controls, NFC/Amiibo capabilities, HD rumble
  • You can use it in handheld mode without having to buy additional accessories
  • Fully compatible with other switch games
  • Convenience (you're not always going to have access to a GameCube controller, but you're always going to have access to something with a similar button layout to the Pro controller)

    Cons:
  • Digital triggers
  • Lag (you can also use it wired but that can actually make the controller more laggy than playing it wirelessly)
  • Battery life
  • No notches

    Misc/Personal Preference
  • Digital Triggers
  • Traditional diamond shaped button layout

Like I said, both controllers feel amazing to use and are comfortable in your hands, so it all comes down to your own preference.

A lot of the GameCube controller's problems (like needing a wired connection and the lack of buttons) can be solved by buying third party controllers. I know PowerA has a wireless GameCube controller with all the extra buttons and features coming out soon. It is important to note that third party GameCube controllers have a history of bring poorly made and breaking after a few weeks. Hori also has a portable stand for the Switch with a bunch of usb docks that you could use (I don't know how to put links into text because I don't really use Reddit that much so I'll link it below). I would be careful if you're going to use it because third party docks can brick your Switch.

    Hori Switch Dock:
HORI Nintendo Switch Multiport USB Playstand - Nintendo Switch https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01A827XHM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_nXcXBbF1P2CAY

tl;dr GameCube controllers are great if you want to get really competitive with Smash but have a lot of issues regarding flexibility, while Pro controllers are great for adaptability but lag could become a problem.

Edit: Some formatting stuff and moved the different trigger types under a new miscellaneous category

They are in essence all rebrand of the same thing. But the one I ordered is..

Wii to hdmi Converter, Gana wii to hdmi Adapter, wii to hdmi1080p 720p Connector Output Video & 3.5mm Audio - Supports All Wii Display Modes https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078MGZ56R/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_JicXCbG2K3XSX

The dock that comes with the switch can do that..
If you need tabletop mode and charging + controllers then hori makes one that works. Be warned it charges slowly though. Amazon Link

I actually for once have the best answer here, hopefully it won't get buried!

This bad boy replaces your dock AND gives you a built in ethernet port.
This is winning.

I used one of these for a while. It doesn't list PS2, but it works as well.

u/Roppmaster · 1 pointr/WiiHacks

It might be the adapter then.

You could try a Wii VGA cable: https://www.amazon.com/TNP-Wii-PS3-VGA-Cable-PlayStation/dp/B01JOBW12K/.

I've also heard of others using this: https://www.beharbros.com/garo.

Have a couple nice consumer CRT TV sets, but decided to pick up a free CRT computer monitor today (MAG 771FS-s, had never heard of it) and try out 480p Melee if possible.
I already have component cables for my Wii, but would one of these work well with the monitor?

This is probably your best bet for playing PS1 / PS2 games on an HD TV.

As for wii / gamecube, hyperkin makes a well reviewed cable.

One option is the HORI Nintendo Switch Multiport USB Playstand, but I think (though I'm not really sure) that any USB hub will suffice.

There's hdmi converters for Wii Xbox and GameCube available. Just google them. I personally have Wii to hdmi and ps2 to hdmi and they work fine

I think (not 100%) that all wii u’s still have the multi-out port next to the hdmi port. It’s possible one of these:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0753CZ8MC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_lRzQCbAKASYEG

Could work. I know they work on the wii but ive never tried it with a wii u (not usually necessary obviously). For $11 it might be worth a shot

So what's the point of listing an item as "Prime" if it's not in stock, not fulfilled by Amazon, and/or not actually 2 day shipping?

Over the last month or two I've had all those things occur:

An item would ship to me in 2 days, but wasn't expected back in stock for 2 or 3 more days. Yet it was one of the top recommended items for my search.

Another was sold and shipped by a 3rd party, but was still listed as Prime and had 2 day delivery. I personally preferred fulfilled by Amazon if not sold by too as I'm not having to deal with a 3rd party if there are issues.

On Wednesday I ordered this adapter so my kid can hook up our old Wii via HDMI. Shows as qualifying for Prime, however it noted at the time:

>FREE Delivery Thursday, Aug. 15 - Thursday, Aug. 22 Details
>
>Extended delivery time: To offer this low-priced item and a variety of such products, this item ships via ground.

As of this morning, it still hasn't shipped. I can't remember the last time I had a package that traveled by air, at least informally based on tracking checkpoints.

IOW, lately I just feel bamboozled that my Prime subscription may just be a way to secretly get me to pay for shipping with out me noticing. And labeling items as Prime a way to get higher margins from sellers. 🤔

if you have 20$ more to spare you can buy this :

https://www.amazon.com/Converter-Adapter-hdmi1080p-Connector-Output/dp/B078MGZ56R/ref=sr_1_3?crid=1OX5QS22CVO0&keywords=wii+hdmi+converter&qid=1568957577&sprefix=WII+HDMI%2Caps%2C230&sr=8-3

you'll get beautiful 480p image, for me it's the best image you can get on PSO.The BB hi-rez image is not that pretty because of the old year 2000 textures.imho.

Actually there is an adapter that you can get that plugs into the Wii controller, and makes your gamecube controller act as a classic controller. Not sure how good it works, but I hear that it works well.

Buy this -> Mayflash Nintendo GameCube Controller Adapter for Wii/Wii U https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BS520SG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_sVDwxbXMFVNK2

Actually you can plug it in to the bottom of the wiimote with one of these. They said something about "using any controller you want" so maybe you can.

Depending on what you are using it for, this might help. It connects a Gamecube controller to a Wiimote. The system recignizes it as being a Classic Controller. It works for Wii and Wii U games.

About the Best Buy Smash Fest, I really hope more info comes about this soon!! I am dying to see if this is available in my location!

Also, there is only one major expectation for this event that I will have: Gamecube Controllers. There MUST be Gamecube Controllers, and not just Wii Motes with nun chucks. I won't be expecting to see every character on the roster unlocked or anything, I simply hope that if I do get the chance to play this game in advance, I do so with the Gamecube controller (or at least a Wii Classic controller).

edit: TIL that the Nintendo Wii U doesn't have Gamecube ports, although there is a third party adapter? Probably won't have gamecube controllers then :c.

u/Hylian_Trumpeter · -2 pointsr/wiiu

I know this is a bit off topic, but what I wish was still in production was the official Lan Adaptor for the Wii U. I got an off-brand adaptor and my gameplay online dramatically improved.

http://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Wii-USB-Enabled-Lan-Adapter/dp/B000WY8GW8

Here is the one I bought. Totally worth it for those who have access to a wired connection near your Wii U
I wanted the official, but they were asking close to 50-70 dollars for it... If I ever get the spare cash, I may still take the dive because I'm the kind of person who is about "all official nintendo products", but for now this will do.

u/happy_chickens · -2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I bought this one a few months back to put in my office, still works great, played through all of XBC 2: Torna the Golden Country with it.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07F3WQMJW/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

edit: also I should say this does not include an AC adapter, but if you are replacing your Nintendo branded one you can reuse that adapter. I just bought an Amazon basics one and it works fine.

u/AggressionSsb · -4 pointsr/pcmasterrace

The wiiu HAS an ethernet. Not defending it's still a shit console.
