(Part 2) Best window stickers & films according to redditors

Get some of these stickers and put them on your front door. Also, smart fire alarms are great. We have two nests alarms and they ring your phone whenever the alarm goes off.

The screen was $3 from a thrift store, $6 plexiglass from home depot, and this window film.

honestly its super easy...

u need

• 6 square feet of clear acrylic ($60 at home depot)
  
• 12 feet of plastic cornering ($5)
  
• good mounting tape ($5)
  
• 15 feet of LED strips ($28)
  
• One way mirror film ($10)
  
  
  how to assemble:
  
  

1. Use a utility knife and a straight edge to score and cut the acrylic sheets. U don’t need to cut all the way through just enough to snap it over the edge of a table. Should be left with six 12” squares of clear acrylic.
   
   
2. Dry build the box (i just used masking tape to hold it together) and just cut the corner guard to the needed length for each side.
   
   
3. Apply the mirror film to acrylic
   
   
4. Dry build the corner guard into a box (ur trying to achieve a frame) and place the mirrored acrylic into place, EXCEPT the top piece. That u just set on top of the frame.
   
   
5. Lay in the LED strips (just tape them in place for now). Theres a way to do it where u only need to over lap 3 times, its impossible to cover every edge without overlapping.
   
   
6. Ur practically done! Just go back and use the mounting tape to set everything in place. For the top piece, use velcro on the corners and just stick it in place. This will save u a lot of frustration and time (trust me).
   
   Thats pretty much it. I kinda just started making it and winged it the whole way. Longest and hardest part is cutting the acrylic but its not that bad. Whole thing took me abt 2 trips to home depot and 3 hours over 2 two days (mirror film take 12 hrs to set). All and all, it was really easy. It helps to have someone help build, but theres nothing u really can’t do by urself. Hope u guys enjoy! reply w questions abt stuff n ill try to answer

OP, you could try something like this that could offer you privacy while still letting light in!

Takes about 2 minutes to apply and will not shed glitter all over. Unfortunately this spray paint look will start chipping pretty quickly and you'll get clear spots eventually. Also not really removable in any easy way.



There's also some me other cool options, like this rainbow hologram cling film or dimension effect and a million other ways to decorate, just search for cling vinyl it's stupid easy to find

You could add some window film to help block the heat. Something like this.

I bought it on Amazon They have different sizes but this was best for my window. Be sure to clean the window thoroughly and then be generous when spraying with water. I did it myself but it would definitely be easier with two people. I was worried it would look tacky but it actually looks good. I don’t even think anyone will notice (I live in a condo).

tough to say for sure, as nightjars can be very difficult to ID visually and often have a lot of variability in color within species, but I think this is a female or immature Chuck-will's-widow, based on the lack of a prominent black crown stripe often seen in Whip-poor-will, and on the color of the tips of the outer tail feathers:

Chuck-will's-widow has more caramel-colored, less contrasting tips to the outer feathers

Eastern Whip-poor-will's outermost tail feathers are tipped in a paler buff or tan.

And yes, please put up some window decals to prevent more window strikes :) Some nice ones are available on Amazon and are pretty cheap

A suggestion for covering windows: I just got frosted privacy film from Amazon. It was fairly inexpensive ($30 for a whole sliding glass door), easy to install, and is a breeze to remove. You can try covering the bottom half of the windows with something similar and see if it helps

Just so you’re aware they have to go on the outside of the window to work. Windows have UV treatment that block that spectrum

i use decorative window films like this as tank backgrounds. here's what it looks like on an empty 20 gallon long.

Also look into these maybe? Privacy window film, it just sticks on and peels off. But they still let light through but your dog cant nose it off and they can't see in. Obviously doesn't fix the problem long term but it stop you havent to live in darkness with drapes drawn. :)

I had the same issue and bought this blackout stuff on amazon. You can custom cut it to the fridge and had worked perfectly. And it looks good.

Moving in to my new place soon. It has this huge window with two sections. I'm not sure what kind of curtain/shade should I install. If I use a roller/roman shade, does it go all the way down to cover both sections? I'm also considering putting privacy film like this for the lower section, so that I can keep some privacy but still allow some light in.

These are removable and don’t have adhesive. Also I can’t imagine it would be difficult to trim them to fit your window.

I'd remove that Tetra sticker, get some sort of background on it (I prefer solid colors, or that vinyl frosted glass look). As far as aquascape, I would move the wood in a bit from the left side and bring the crypts back closer to it. Get some Crypt Parva for the front and some Blassii for the back and have an all crypt tank.
Just my ideas for some simple tweaks.

I'm not sure which rays plants utilize. I have this film on my north-facing bedroom windows in PNW with low-light tolerant plants (pothos, zz, variegated snake).

I also have a large south-facing bay window with mini blinds and am using large plants as my privacy screen. Though it's tricky finding plants where the leaves won't burn with direct sun.

Mine also reflects light and doesn't look like I'm running a grow room behind it.

We use this paper that sticks on the window plus blackout blinds (Wirecutter has recs here) plus blackout curtains (And here’s Wirecutter for blackout curtains). Gets the room really darn dark! We also put electrical tape over any item that emits light—air conditioning buttons, on light for baby monitor, etc.

I have a bedroom whose window faces south and is at the end of my main hallway. I put up those vinyl window diffuser things and it scatters the light around into a nice glow instead of the usual sharp beam which, given the angle, is mostly wasted - have been thinking for a while that I could get transparent yellow vinyl and turn that white light into something warmer.

I used this type of window film on my bathroom window, and use a sheer curtain over all. Very private.

Or you could just do the lower half of the window. That way you'd still get some unfiltered light in the room but still have privacy.

Here's the rest of the design BTW. Emoticon heart is gonna be replaced with a heart made of grand kids thumb print like this, and the ampersand will be fixed. May also engrave rest of grandkids thump print hearts on top in the wood.

So, fully wood top, wood bottom, windows cut in other 4 panes, 4 frosted panels, 3 with etchings, just plain frosted in the back, or maybe I'll add the kids name or something.

It depends on the window film, some you can see out of, others you can't.

Mine which casts rainbows everywhere, I can't see out of.

You can definitely paint too - black should be easy to get a even coverage, however the masking of the top and sides could be difficult.

Could you get a reflective cling type thing to put on your window? Something where you can see out fine but the neighbors can't see in. I have this on my bedroom window.

There are other less cool, but more affordable options. Contact paper + sharpies or fancy printed window films. Can cut them so there are uncovered portions and covered portions. Lots of other creative ways to achieve the same effect.
