Borax vaginal pills - these go in your vagina and they REALLY work. I had chronic BV/yeast issues after or during my period and when i was on BC it was worse. Anyway - if i have any vaginal upset - i insert one of the pills into the vagina (DO NOT TAKE BY MOUTH). It basically corrects PH and the bacteria dont like that. I have been using them now for about a year and i have not had to use any RX at all for any yeast infections etc. I swear relief is also very fast. If you have an infection, the instructions will tell you to use for many days - honestly - one has cleared up any issue.

Use it at night, because you will get some grainy discharge. I do have a latex issue, and also sensitive to some semen.

Example that i have used

Also, if you still use tampons - switch to a menstrual cup. That really helped things too.

Boric acid is amazing for BV! I use these ones from Amazon as they’re cheaper and have more than the ones from target. Seriously give it a try they work so well!

Like someone else mentioned, I use these in combination with the VH Essentials Cranberry Probiotics

u/VicodinMakesMeItchy · 14 pointsr/TwoXChromosomes

I second boric acid! You don't need to take them every day, I don't think. I use this brand, in case they're any cheaper than what you've seen. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01KGFXSLQ/ref=oh_aui_i_sh_in_o0_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1

If anyone wants to try something cheaply. Monistat chafing relief powder gel.

Active Ingredients: Dimethicone - 1.2 % (Skin Protectant)

Inactive Ingredients: Cyclopentasiloxane, Dimethicone, Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Silica, Tocopheryl Acetate, Trisiloxane

I think this would break me out, I wish I could try it.

u/tryptronica · 10 pointsr/BurningMan

Monistat Anti-Chafing Gel. I find it invaluable for all the bike riding I do on the playa. Between the heat and the dust, this is a real life saver for any body parts that might be rubbing together.

This is the cream I used. I was about 3 years or so into HRT when i started and I used about a dime size dab on each breast. I could tell something was going on within days since I started feeling the hardness in my breasts (and soreness) that I felt the first few months of estrogen therapy. Over time it did cause headaches if my P levels built up so if I experienced a headache I would stop for a few days. That was really the only cycling I tried long term. i have read that your receptors do get saturated so it's good to stop and I probably did so a few days a month due to the headaches but not on any set schedule. My breasts always swelled about a cup size during those stoppages but then went down. I've never seen a study that linked progesterone to cancer but I guess it's possible. I use it occasionally just becuase it seems to modulate my week estrogen injections and my breasts still swell but not as much. They have been the same size(36D) for many years and don't seem to lose volume when I stop. I did lose about 20 pounds and my bra size went down to 34D(about a cup size difference) for about a year but visually they looked about the same. The nice thing is they never lost their firmness when I lost weight. Glad to help :)

u/nimue173 · 9 pointsr/TheGirlSurvivalGuide

Bike shorts work great, but when it's too hot for the extra layer I use Monistat Chafing Gel. When rubbed into the skin, it feels like a really silky powder. It's not sticky at all.

u/throwmeawayjno · 8 pointsr/breakingmom

Sorry. An addendum.

Estrogen pills have more estrogen that can pass into your milk . Since your baby is 6 months vs the other momma whose baby is much older, I would advise you stick to the cream. I also listed for her a couple OTC options. Lemme grab that.

(Bioidentical) Estrogen Estriol Cream. Supplements 175mg of USP Micronized, Bio-Identical Estriol- 3.5oz Pump. For Women during Menopause. Weight Loss, Vaginal Dryness, Wrinkles & PCOS

You really want to get it up there. Don't worry, while estrogen does enter our blood stream and milk, it's not enough to harm the kid at all. I checked 😂 it's super negligible amounts. (When applied topically)

I'd also make sure you're always using lube like this one

Astroglide gel

And plenty of it 😂

And this: replens

I'm tempted to post a pic of all my blankets... I have three or four which I swap out during the night as I'm freezing when I go to bed but then wake up in a pool of sweat!

One thing that helps my insomnia/palps A LOT - Emerita brand bioidentical progesterone cream. I use about a dime-size dollop, or even less, every couple of days, 3 weeks out of the month (I start it seven days after my cycle begins.... 3 or so days after the crime scene stops. ;))

They say to put it on your thighs but I'm really sensitive to meds so I put it on my shoulder every other night before bed... can't say enough how much it's helped me. Expensive but worth it. The only downside is a touch of nausea, but I find Pepto or ginger tea will alleviate that.

This stuff is amazing. Bonus: you can also use it as makeup primer!

u/vsuaut · 7 pointsr/TrollXChromosomes

If you wanna go natural, but not all the way garlic clove natural, I'd recommend having a container of [boric acid suppositories] (https://www.amazon.com/NutraBlast-Boric-Acid-Vaginal-Suppositories/dp/B07212DK9F/ref=sr_1_2_s_it?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1506802713&sr=1- 2&keywords=boric+acid+vaginal) around. They work SO well, especially if you can feel it "coming on" and treat early. Also helps me with general maintenance and makes periods go over faster for me.

u/vagattackTA · 7 pointsr/Healthyhooha

Okay so

  1. All I have is discharge, no pain, no odor, no burning, no itching, nothing but gray discharge in large quantities
2.its been the exact same since I noticed it
  2. Hard to tell if the boric acid or the vaginal cream did anything during treatment but the day after I stopped it would be the exact same as before
  3. Both were 7 day, no improvement
  4. I'm on refrigerated 15 billion live women's health, I've been taking it for a little over a week 1 in the morning an hour before I eat. Florajen is the brand I think
  5. One every night for 10 days with no improvement here's a link to the one I used https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07MC5PKRW?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title
  6. I did about a year ago and I was clean
  7. I'm here first and only partner. Prior to her I hadn't had sex in about a year.
  8. She did recently and she's completely clean
  9. They only swabbed once but she did a visual exam about 3 weeks ago
u/ladylolz · 6 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

This. Sounds weird but it works perfectly and it has actually helped my sensitive, acne prone skin. You can purchase it at most drugstores and Wal-Mart carries it. There are many reviews online about using this product as a primer.

u/kongholiday · 6 pointsr/keto

Body glide is decent, but it kind of stinks after it mixes with sweat and stuff. And it's pretty greasy. I've tried every anti-chafe product known to man or woman and This stuff (Monistat Soothing Care Chafing Relief) is unfucking believable. There's simply no other way to describe it. I just wish they'd put it in a neutral package and market it to dudes as well. Boys have chub-rub issues too and I'd rather not have to include the feminine hygiene aisle in my shopping trips...

u/hobguy7996 · 6 pointsr/tifu

Now you listen here Mister. If you think for one God Damned second that your "Goldbond" is the best Anti-Chafing product, then you must not know of this stuff. I would highly suggest you give it a go. It can be found at your local Wal-Mart by the rubbers and pussy meds.

u/JanelleMTX · 6 pointsr/TransDIY

>were extracted from pregnant horse urine.

Those are conjugated estrogens. Nasty stuff, and not prescribed very much anymore.

>Because I found bioidentical estrogen for sell on amazon. If this is what it seems like, then it is great for me because I can’t consume animal products, and I can get HRT w/o prescriptions.

Thats sourced from yams. Not a good source of estrogen.

Most of the estradiol that we use is bioidentical because it is synthetic, i.e. manufactured.

u/Sinyria · 6 pointsr/TransDIY

compared to Europe's Amazon stores, the U.S. version actually sells a mixed E2/E3 cream ( https://www.amazon.com/Estrogen-Bioidentical-Estradiol-Management-Professional/dp/B07DFVL6WD/ ) which should be ok, esp. if you don't need max. feminisation if you're looking for enby-hrt or similar - however, the Estrogel you can get through various online pharmacies might have more E per dollar anyway..

u/wonderful_wonton · 5 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

An issue is the over the counter brands are all body-cream quality, and not facial cream quality, so they're too heavy for summer wear, but they're decent for winter as a protective layer. Or you can use them as a mask, leaving them on for an hour or so, instead of wearing them under makeup

You're not really supposed to add any estrogen to your system without balancing it with progesterone, or you might get a hormone imbalance. So it's best to read a few references to familiarize yourself with those issues, and plan for using progesterone creams as an accessory to estrogen creams.

An estrogen cosmetic cream:

Life-Flo BiEstro-Care | Estrogen Cream w/Estriol USP & Estradiol USP | Physician-Developed Cream for Optimal Balance | 4-oz Pump

A companion progesterone cream:

Life-Flo Progesta-Care Plus with Natural Progesterone USP & Phytoestrogens | Physician-Developed Body Cream for Optimal Balance | 4-oz Pump

Effectiveness of estrogen creams

> As far as their success with dry, wrinkled skin is concerned there is one much-quoted study from the University of Vienna Medical School, Austria. The trial was conducted with 0.01% estradiol or 0.3% estriol on 59 postmenopausal women. After six months of treatment, a marked improvement in skin elasticity and firmness was noted; wrinkle depth and pore size decreased by over 60% in both estradiol and estriol groups. Skin moisture and collagen synthesis increased significantly.

  • Estrogen applied topically and benefits for skin

But bioidentical estrogen doesn't appear to work on sun-damaged facial skin. Studies suggest that bioidentical estrogen & estradiol creams ("bioidentical" = identical to human estrogen molecules) are NOT effective on sun-damaged skin, but are effective on non-photo-damaged skin, and this has led to mixed results in studies.

    > Two-week topical estradiol treatment stimulates collagen production in sun-protected hip skin, but not in photoaged forearm or face skin, in postmenopausal women and aged-matched men. These findings suggest that menopause-associated estrogen decline is involved in reduced collagen production in sun-protected skin. Interestingly, alterations induced by long-term sun exposure hinder the ability of topical 2-week estradiol to stimulate collagen production in aged skin.

  • Induction of Collagen by Estradiol: Difference Between Sun-Protected and Photodamaged Human Skin In Vivo

But if bioidentical estrogens aren't effective on sun damaged skin, estrogens made from phytosterols (estrogens from plant sources like soy) are more effective at rejuvenating skin.

    > Soy isoflavones, on the other hand, are a class of estrogen-like compounds, specifically genistein and daidzein. There are a few studies that suggest that soy is promising. In 2004, European researchers found that soy extract resulted in increased collagen and HA synthesis and “appears to rejuvenate the structure of mature skin”.

  • Estrogen applied topically and benefits for skin

Over the counter cosmetic creams like the one linked above are made with phytosterols, which have been seen to be effective than bioidentical hormone creams on sun-damaged skin.

Progesterone cream is also seen to have skin rejuvenation benefits:

    > In a study published in the British Journal of Dermatology, scientists determined that progesterone cream may help increase skin firmness and elasticity. Involving 40 peri-menopausal and post-menopausal women, the four-month-long study also found that progesterone cream helped fight wrinkles.

  • What to Know About Progesterone Cream

Non-cosmetic aspects about cosmetic creams containing hormones:

  1. they can cause pimples, especially at first, just like anyone can get pimples at certain times of the month. (I don't get any, tho)
  2. they can cause hormone imbalances if used improperly or excessively (read a few references to inform yourself before using)
  3. progesterone cream can be used to reduce the effects of PMS (a drop in progesterone triggers periods & causes PMS)
  4. estrogen & progesterone creams can be used to help with the discomfort of menopause
  5. if your hormone levels get low for any reason, they can make you look & feel better

    Medically supervised cosmetic estrogen/progesterone creams:

If you're concerned about handling the issues of cosmetic hormone creams without medical supervision, there are prescription hormone creams for cosmetic (skin improvement) uses designed to avoid any secondary hormonal effects, that a doctor can prescribe for you.

    > Because Renew Woman’s™ estrogen face cream will not alter your body’s hormonal balance. It only delivers the precise amount of hormone necessary to help your skin.

I've used this product before from amazon. It seemed to work ok. I've been meaning to get some more.

u/squidboots · 5 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I too am "blessed" with large pore genetics.

My advice, in addition to the excellent tip to add in BHA to your routine, is to find a good foundation primer. If you can tolerate 'cones, I think that dimethicone-based primers are much better at masking large pores than non-'cone based primers. Monistat Anti-Chafing Gel is an exact dupe for Smashbox Photo Finish Primer! You can get it at most grocery stores/pharmacies. I get it at Target for about $5 in the feminine care section. If you can't do 'cone-based primers, I like KORRES Pomegranate Mattifying Primer.

I use Boric Acid Suppositories when things start feeling off. I had about three infections back to back for a while and it sucked. Smelled horrible, itching, the works... it was embarrassing as all hell. I also go condomless and he finishes inside me; there’s no way I’m going to give either of those up, lol.
You pop one in your vagina at night (make sure you’re done with sex for the day) and let it dissolve. There’s a little bit of goop in the morning, but it’s not too bad. Just in case: DO NOT TAKE THESE ORALLY.
I’ve had a lot of luck with this one: pH-D Boric Acid Suppositories
You can use it as often as you like. I was using a couple times a week at first. After things normalized for me, I’ll do it maybe about once or twice a month. I keep a bottle in my night stand for good measure.

Edit: I too am an IUD user (copper/nonhormonal). I’ve had mine in for about a year and a half. Been doing the suppositories for about a year now.

u/mtngirl279 · 5 pointsr/TheGirlSurvivalGuide

Contrary to the other commenter I would say that boric acid saved my life after battling with recurring bv/yeast infections for three years. Even after visiting multiple (five to be exact) doctors who couldn't figure out the problem, this is the only thing that helped.

I drink kombucha and green tea at least three times a week and use a boric acid suppository (from Amazon) when things start to feel slightly off. I try to avoid eating too many sugary foods or carbs in a day and also eat greek yogurt with cinnamon and honey at least four times a week. These changes have completely gotten rid of my infections. Hope this helps! I know how awful it feels when it seems like things will never be normal again!

u/DancingWithTigers3 · 5 pointsr/xxfitness

I have a delicate flower myself and the only thing that helps with my PH issue is inserting a boricap at night.

u/lb_fantastic · 5 pointsr/sex

ALWAYS PEE AFTER SEX, NO EXCUSES, I DON'T CARE IF YOU'RE TIRED OR PEED BEFORE SEX. ALWAYS PEE AFTER SEX, or shower, but peeing is easier.

This will prevent a UTI.

Tips for a healthy vagina (other than peeing after sex)

  • No soap or anything besides water on the vagina.
  • If your vagina is smelly or it's somewhat off, use these to help get your pH levels back to normal (can also be used as a preventative measure if you spent too much time in a wet bathing suit, or if your man finished inside of you. Just a few examples). Go to a gyno if they don't help.
  • Cotton underwear
u/brynnflynn · 4 pointsr/TryingForABaby

For starters, I am not a doctor.

So, I'm pretty suspicious of it on first glance. For starters, it smacks of homeopathic remedies, even though they don't come out and say it; there's no way there's enough 'active ingredient' in a milliliter of the stuff to be effective.

Rather, I'd ask about what else you're on at the moment. Are you taking a pre-natal? Where are you in your cycle? Are you temping, or using a tracking app? It's not to say you have to do any of those, well, save the prenatal, but it helps us lowly internet folks compare your situation to our own or others.

That being said, the ingredients they claim are in the extract are the big ones: vitex is a major component of most fertility blends on the market. The others fall under the 'might be useful, might be nothing' category.

Personally, I've found I've had a lot of success in big, consistent ovulations with the following regimen.

  • 1 capsule Vitamin Code RAW Prenatal 3x a day
  • 1 capsule Nordic Naturals DHA 2x a day
  • 1 capsule Raw Maca Root
  • 12 oz Fertilitea prepared with 1 tsp tea/12 oz water

While I haven't gotten a positive yet, you can check out my chart to see that I'm fairly consistent, and ovulated right off of my IUD being removed in May.

    Hope this helps!

u/blairewilde · 4 pointsr/TheGirlSurvivalGuide

I understand your pain! You probably have recurrent BV/ yeast infections. I dealt with this issue for years. Essentially, for reasons probably out of your control, your vagina is just not properly regulating its PH. It's a lot more common than I thought. Your period is throwing off your PH.

Something I found to be really helpful are Boric Acid suppositories. I used these and they were a miracle! (I think any type would work). Some women use them towards the end of their period to prevent any symptoms, some use them at the onset of symptoms for a week or two, and they seem to work for a lot of people! Read through the reviews and give them a try. Please remember, do not eat them- they are quite toxic. You put them inside,

u/LicianDragon · 3 pointsr/PMDD

Yes!!! I'm using Emerita's Pro-gest cream and have been for the past 2ish months. Whatever brand you use, make sure it uses USP progesterone(from wild yams)! That means it's chemically identical to the progesterone our own bodies make and so is readily absorbed and used.

I got my worst PMDD month ever 3 cycles ago which prompted me to try it out.

It takes about a month to start working. Initially I used it twice a day, every day, then after the first month, cut back to once a day. The instructions say to stop using it when your period starts but that wasn't working for me. I use a little extra in the week before my period and a little less during my period.

My first cycle on it I noticed very mild symptoms, nothing that really ruined my day or started any issues. My period also came a week early that month though which is very strange for me. Not sure if that was from using the cream or not. Obviously that cut out a lot of possible PMDD time for me.

Symptoms for me always start around ovulation with an occasional break between the days of my "fertile window" and the 10 days before my period starts. According to my period tracking app, Clue, my PMDD symptoms should have gone full blown 3 days ago. So far though, I have had 0 emotional symptoms since that terrible cycle back in July. Do you ever get an almost euphoric feeling right when your period starts and all the crazy goes away? Everything is suddenly ok again and life is awesome? That's what I've had for the past 3 weeks straight.

I'm still holding my breath on this and probably will be for the next few months. I've got 5 more possible days of PMDD stuff left for this month and then still one more "trial" month so see if it's truly doing anything for me. A fair warning though, back when my gynecologist listed this as an option for me she said only 50% of her PMDD patients report it being helpful. I'm sure some of that is due to them not using it correctly, not giving it enough time to work, and/or buying a brand that didn't use USP progesterone. If you decide to try it, give it 3 cycles to fully kick in!

Bodyglide or Monistat Anti Chafing Gel (which as an added bonus also works wonderfully as a makeup primer).

u/dmbishop22 · 3 pointsr/TwoXChromosomes

This has probably already been said, but have you tried anti-chafing gel?

u/hawps · 3 pointsr/LifeProTips

I live for Monistat's Anti Chafing Gel. And, this is going to sound weird, it also works as a great makeup primer. It has a similar consistency to Smashbox primer, which is like $40 a tube.

u/Belloved · 3 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

I have the same problem and recently bought the Monistat primer and Skindivia Setting Spray(which sadly I got for 19 dollars a week ago without Prime so I'm really sad it's on sale now :( ). The monistat didn't do much to control the shine but the Setting Spray did completely. I lasted a good 6 hours without blotting and no shine! Soooo happy I bought this... Try it out while it's still on sale :)

u/_backpfeifengesicht · 3 pointsr/DIYBeauty

So sorry I don't have a DIY suggestion for you, but I have a cheap alternative that you might like.

I use Monistat Chafing Relief Powder Gel as my primer. It can be had for under $10 and works really well, just as well as an expensive primer.

I had received a sample of Smashbox primer and decided to compare the two. The Smashbox was a teeny bit thicker, but other than that, no difference except for you get loads more product with Monistat.

Check out the reviews on Makeup Alley: http://www.makeupalley.com/product/x_showreview.asp?itemid=98437

I got mine at Wal-Mart for about $5. I've also seen it at Target. It's on drugstore.com for $6:

It's more expensive, but you can find it on amazon for about $10:

yeah, just search for probiotic suppositories like these. there are studies comparing the efficacy of oral vs vaginal probiotics and there's no competition really.

>Also would you think that vaginas would create a resistance to boric acid suppositories' effects on the long term usage?

nah. it's just acid, you can use them forever if you want. but it's inconvenient, and boric acid suppositories can be pretty irritating, and really, it's always better to sort out your body's natural defenses when possible than perpetually rely on external support.

u/rightioushippie · 3 pointsr/TrollXChromosomes

I got bouts of it for years until finally I did a course of that stupid antibiotic and the gel you put up your pussy and then IMMEDIATELY after did a course of probiotic vaginal pessary (!new troll word alert!) like [this] (http://www.amazon.com/FloraFemme-Probiotic-Suppository-Manufactured-refrigerator/dp/B007HWMI6S) AND also drank [this] (http://turbochargedturmeric.com/products/rest-easy/) every day for at least a month. Now I have not had it in at least 3 years.

Edit: [this] (http://turbochargedturmeric.com/products/rest-easy/) and [this] (http://www.amazon.com/FloraFemme-Probiotic-Suppository-Manufactured-refrigerator/dp/B007HWMI6S) are linked to things I took

u/Dinamoehummmer · 3 pointsr/sex

Vaginal probiotics inserted vaginally will help to increase your good bacteria and make your vagina less hospitable to the stinky bacteria that is causing odor. These are expensive but are very effective. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B007HWMI6S/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?qid=1421682251&sr=8-2&pi=AC_SY200_QL40&dpPl=1&dpID=41w-XNXivSL&ref=plSrch

u/eva_destruction_ · 3 pointsr/TwoXChromosomes

I can't promise this will help, but I had an awful yeast infection or bacterial vaginosis (I didn't ever go to the doctor) that lasted months! I was trying everything: garlic, apple cider vinegar, greek yogurt.. you name it. I finally stumbled upon Boric Acid. That link is to some boric acid suppositories specifically marketed for BV or yeast infections, but I just ordered the boric acid powder and put them in empty 0 or 00 size gel capsules. I ordered it from amazon but they might have it at your local pharmacy. Either way, it was amazing. Seriously night and day after just two or three days of use.

I suggest putting the suppositories in at night, as they make you INSANELY wet.

Also, I'm not a doctor, but it does seem like you might have an allergy, IBS, or some kind of inflammatory bowel disorder. Maybe try a serious elimination diet and slowly add things back in?
Good luck!

Edit: here's a link to the regular boric acid powder and the empty gel capsules I just used a knife to dump the powder in the capsules, it doesn't have to be precise, you can do two if you can't get the capsules very full, it won't hurt you.

u/youbetteryolo · 3 pointsr/WomensHealth

I used to get chronic yeast infections, but I use boric acid suppositories and it changed my life. You can read all the reviews on Amazon if you want. https://www.amazon.com/pH-D-Feminine-Health-Support-Suppositories/dp/B01KGFXSLQ/ref=sr_1_3?crid=273F69OOVL0L5&keywords=boric+acid+suppositories&qid=1566248616&s=gateway&sprefix=boric%2Caps%2C221&sr=8-3

I don't really have issues anymore. Having these on hand helps me catch an infection before it starts.

u/funnilizatt · 3 pointsr/SexWorkersOnly

Yay! I hope they work out for you!

Tips:

-If you're planning on having intercourse with one in, make sure your vaginal cavity is cleansed of blood. I know this sounds weird but you don't want to get residual blood anywhere. The best way I found to do this is put a lite tampon in for a bit. I don't douche so I can't speak to that (if you do, I recommend you using pH-D Feminine Health Support to restore the healthy bacteria back). Side note: I think every woman should have a bottle of pH-D around. It's a godsend.

-Practice a few times before you use them. They can leak and it's so embarrassing when you're going at it. Since my flow is heavy, I put one in shortly before my appointment just to err on the side of caution. Interestingly, I typically wear a Diva Cup during my period and the Softcup holds more fluid!

-Upon removal, they are MESSY. Perhaps I don't have much practice with them but if it's full...ugh...expect a crime scene with a lot of clean up. Removing it in the shower might be best, if you can.

-The Softcup won't get lost. It might get wedged in high and tight (that's a good thing!) but you can hook your finger and pull it out. See point mentioned above.

-I've never had a partner say they've felt anything while it's in. Win-win.

If you have more questions, feel free to DM me. Good luck!

u/capitan_jackie · 3 pointsr/PCOS

Ughhh I really hate BV - I developed it last year and it wouldn't go away. I tried metronidazole, probiotics, peroxide, yoghurt, changing my diet etc. and it would just keep coming back. Then someone on reddit swore by boric acid suppositories like these. I used one everyday for a week and that completely cleared it up. Now I use one on the last day of my period just in case because I read somewhere that the blood messes up the vaginal microbiome and the good lactobacillus bacteria die off (but this could also be a google based myth). In any case Haven't had BV come back in over 6months. The CDC also recommends Boric acid as part of combination therapy so its not so crazy.

u/Spark2Allport · 3 pointsr/Healthyhooha

I did! I developed a burning sensation and itching after having sex with a new partner and knew it was a yeast infection. Used boric acid suppositories for 5 days and everything was clear! Immediately after using the first boric acid suppository, I felt relief. These are the ones I use: https://smile.amazon.com/NutraBlast-Boric-Acid-Vaginal-Suppositories/dp/B07212DK9F/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=Boric+Acid&qid=1563813990&s=gateway&sr=8-5

I have the bottle around just in case bv or a yeast infection strikes! It has been much more economical than going to the obgyn and/or monistat.

u/theGreatWizardHowl · 3 pointsr/bacterialvaginosis

I have had reoccurring bv for years and it sucks and it's embarrassing and it's hard on your self esteem, but it's usually not your fault or due to a lack of hygiene. I've recently figured out, after reading alot of scientific literature and other women's advice/research on some of the best methods to combat it and it seems to work, maybe not perfectly, but it does.

The Science
-----------------
To combat bv, you have to try and understand why it happens scientifically.
-Bv seems to occur in women due to one or a combination of things like random hormones, excess sugar intake/diabetes prone, unbalanced vaginal ph.
-The best way to tackle bv is a multifaceted approach, aka it takes a few methods at the same time to combat different issues. It takes some time, so patience is key!
-Here's what's happening: the ph of the vag should be naturally acidic because bad bacteria can't survive in acidic environments, only good ones can. Women with bv have fluctuating ph due to hormones so the bad bacteria thrives, causing all the bv symptoms they produce like discharge, the horrible smell, itching and pain.
__

The Goal:
--------------

  1. Kill all the bacteria, good and bad with medical antibiotics for a fresh start. 2. Figure out a way to maintain vaginal acidity. 3. Increase the count of good bacteria in your body. Overtime, this will reduce the "biofilm" created by the bad bacteria, which will help prevent reoccurrance.
    ___

    The Solutions:
    --------------------
  2. You already seem to be doing step 1, using prescription antibiotics (oral/gel Flagyl, Clindamyacin, Metro-gel etc) to wipe out all the bacteria. The thing is doctors/gynecs will keep prescribing antibiotics for bv but that alone isn't a cure, it just gets rid of the problem temporarily. Like 50% of women will get a reoccurrance within the year.
*Here's the plan. First, you gotta take one round of prescription antibiotics for a week. I used Clindamyacin, but use whichever you want.
  3. Next you gotta create an acidic vaginal environment by inserting something like boric acid capsules https://www.amazon.com/NutraBlast-Boric-Acid-Vaginal-Suppositories/dp/B07212DK9F/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?keywords=boric+acid+suppositories&qid=1574457461&sprefix=Bor&sr=8-4
or 300 mg vitamin C capsules (pure, without additives). I prefer boric acid because it has a very high success rate between women. (This is as safe and natural as its going to get).
*Directly after that first week of antibiotics, (or you can start during if you're taking oral antibiotics), insert boric acid suppositories vaginally every 2-3 days.
  4. Thirdly, you should try to take oral probiotics containing 50 billions+ good bacteria culture that will help fight the bad bacteria. People suggest inserting or eating yogurt for the same reason, but taking probiotic pills is far more effective. https://www.amazon.com/Primadophilus-Optima-Billion-Natures-Way/dp/B009NTEVWC/ref=mp_s_a_1_6?keywords=optima+womens+probiotics&qid=1574458301&sprefix=Optima+wom&sr=8-6
*So after the first week, while you start inserting boric acid, take the probiotic every day.
  5. Continue taking daily probiotics for 5-6 months.

  6. After 2-3 weeks of boric acid insertions or when you notice your symptoms going away, decrease the insertions to 1-2 times a week. Then gradually decrease it to a few times a month each for around 6 months.
  • Most of the stuff I listed that I used might be expensive to you, feel free to shop around a little and do your own research, although it's still cheaper than constant doctors visits 🙄 and prescriptions.
  • Things like periods and unprotected intercourse (certain lubes, semen) can trigger reoccurrance due to outside bacteria coming into contact or messing with the ph, so it's recommended to insert boric acid/ vitamin C right after periods end or sex as a precaution. Also some people say it helps to have healthier diets and reduce sugar intake as sugar feeds bad bacteria and yeast. I love sugar so this is hard for me, but I heard it helps sustain. Lastly, I'm sure you've heard all the basic hygiene things before like wear clean cotton underwear and no using scented soaps in that area.
-For alot of women, simply just taking the boric acids seems enough to stop bv

I know this was a lot to read but if you need more in depth instructions, please feel free to ask. I can also definitely link other, more detailed posts by other redditors that helped me. Best of luck!!

Progesterone cream will induce a period but it's the same type of period you get from birth control. I use https://www.amazon.ca/Life-Flo-Progesta-Care-Progesterone-Menopause-Phytoestrogens/dp/B000FFCXZ0/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1502033396&sr=8-4&keywords=progesterone+cream

They say the best way to use it for PCOS is to take it for the last 14 days of your cycle so If you started your period on Aug 1st, you start the cream on the 14th, stop on the 28th then you're period will arrive.

u/roundabout25 · 2 pointsr/asktransgender

I've used both. I have actually (personally) seen better results from the over-the-counter cream than the prescription. I use this cream.

Different people see different results from different administration methods, from what anecdotal research I've managed to piece together on my own. From the personal accounts I've read, as well as my own, I have seen a trend towards the cream being the method that has given "impressive" results (although I'd rather not call it miraculous, as it's purely anecdote and whatever the mechanism for progesterone-related breast development in trans women is, it is woefully underresearched. Maybe something to do with oral bioavailability of progesterone/two passes through the liver being more de-potentiating than oral usually is? Maybe it's actually nothing and there's a huge selective bias towards people sharing results when they see results that would've happened anyway? Who knows, I ain't no biologist).

I have also used the oral prescription. It did help a little bit, I think, but not very noticably so. Some people have seen results that they've been extremely happy with, some people have had the same experience as me. It was nice for mood and sleep. If you go the oral route, make sure you get bioidentical progesterone (prometrium or a generic version). medroxyprogesterone, the nonbioidentical version, is very likely to fuck your shit up; it works for some people, but overwhelmingly people have bad experiences with it.

I'd start with the cream since it's easy to get ahold of, and try a bioidentical oral one if that doesn't work for you after a few months. Make sure you run it by an endocrinologist or doctor who you trust to make sure you don't have any preexisting conditions that progesterone could exacerbate. Also, warnings about cream:

  1. Applying it directly to the breasts is a huge cancer risk. I did it for a little while (I apply it to my sides now and I've seen no change in growth), so I can't really say not to do it, but don't do it.

  2. If you're in a relationship or have any people or pets you have skin-to-skin contact with regularly, do your best to apply it to an area that they won't be directly touching, or that they won't be licking. Don't be the person who gives poor fluffy some boobs.

  3. Be very careful with your dosing, err on the conservative side, and while it's not a given, expect mood instability until you figure out how to navigate it.

That's a lot of text that you didn't ask for, and you may have already known most of this, but I had to piece a lot of this together and if you weren't aware of it I'd much rather you know everything going in. Given that there is so little research and information available on exogenous progesterone, it's important to err on the side of caution and preparation. My experience and the experience of those I know who've used it has been extremely positive, but be aware of what's going on with it.

I wonder if a silicone primer would be a better choice, because I'm not sure it would be easy to find a dupe for this.. the following are the only ones I could think of that would be cheaper:

($7.13/oz):
http://www.drugstore.com/black-radiance-complexion-perfection-shine-control-primer/qxp362045

($3.90/oz):
http://www.amazon.com/Monistat-SootTing-Chafing-Powder-Gel-1-5-Ounce/dp/B0012ZNSWE

I haven't tried either of them so I can't say how close they would be. For something more moisturizing, I really like Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel which is $6.19/oz if you get the larger size.

I think compression shorts are the best, maybe with some baby powder underneath if you're going to get hot and sweaty. Also, when I was 200+ I couldn't wear dresses/skirts without getting a rash from my thighs rubbing together. I used to buy this product and it worked wonders. The downside is that it's kind of pricey and it's made by Monistat but it really did work well for me: http://www.amazon.com/Monistat-Soothing-Chafing-Powder-Gel-1-5-Ounce/dp/B0012ZNSWE/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

Hormonal acne is obviously due to hormonal imbalances, aka why it's called hormonal.
I don't want to take birth control so I did research and found out about Diindolyl-methane aka Diim, as a natural alternative to treat hormonal acne.

It's found only in cruciferous veggies like broccoli, but you could never get the amount you need from eating it.

It helps your body metabolize excess hormones which in turn also helps your PMS/Menopause symptoms! Jane Iredale makes a blend but it's like $60.

I get mine from Smoky Mountain Naturals. It definitely makes a difference. It's totally affordable and has great reviews on Amazon too.

I love to bathe but my lady parts don't like scented oils anymore and can get irritated.

I use this https://www.amazon.com/Bio-active-Multi-gyn-Previously-Bio-fem-Actigel/dp/B00MFE313C after bathing now and don't have problems anymore. It stings a bit when the ph level of your vagina is off but only like a minute and then it's gone.

u/KlutzySalamander · 2 pointsr/ftm

So I got BV like just a couple months on T, and I tried the metronidazole gel (awful, gross to deal with, didn't fix anything and gave me a yeast infection). I then tried this acidifying gel that actually really helped "bio active multi-gyn actigel" it can burn a little at first but after that it's just sweet relief from all the BV symptoms. The most effective thing for me was combining the actigel with an oral antibiotic, that's what killed the BV for good, otherwise I was needing to reapply daily to keep the BV symptoms from coming back.

For the atrophy issues you should probably be looking at an estrogen cream though. But if you're not ready to try that or if BV persists afterwards I would definitely try this gel.

So, you may want to use boric acid pills (you put them up your vagina) for the over night. I've got the same issue with the odor happening after multiple rounds and these things work like a charm. They dissolve overnight and everything is fresh the next day. Also, helps prevent BV (for me at least) and I used to get it constantly.

Lots of good points here. I 110% agree with using boric acid suppositories. I had constant infections for years and using just one of these a week has meant all the difference.

It sounds like regular pharmaceuticals aren't cutting it anyway, so like someone else suggested, going the tea tree/essential oil route may be an option. Beyond using my boric acid suppositories, I added this essential oil blend to my routine lately and haven't had an issue in months. (both boric acid and these essential oils help with fungal (yeast) and bacterial infections, so if your doc is misdiagnosing you, the boric/oils would still help).

u/barberellagruber · 2 pointsr/WomensHealth

This super sucks. The antibiotic they gave you for the UTI caused the yeast infection, definitely. I'm sorry. Some ladies just get in the infection cycle and regular pharma can't kick it. I spent my 20s pretty much with a constant infection until a new GYN turned me on to boric acid suppositories and essential oils. If your doctor's only solution is just more pills, definitely see if either or both of these help break the cycle.

u/StevieandtheDevil · 2 pointsr/ftm

That sounds like a yeast infection, or possibly BV. My guess due to the long period. Definitely follow up with your doc and if it is a yeast infection they'll prescribe you fluconazole or a pretty mellow antibiotic for BV. There's also tests like this if you're not able to get to your doc soon enough. If it is a yeast infection and you have to wait to get to your doctor I would also recommend Monistat. It's helped me before alleviate discomfort while I had to wait to get to the doctor.

If you're okay with using something that sounds like it's for women, Monistat makes an incredibly effective gel that helps enormously and lasts for hours - plus NO RESIDUE, which Vaseline and Body Glide sometimes has, and isn't something you want on your dress pants. I've never tried it, but many women swear by putting talcum powder under their breasts to reduce chaffing and moisture during the day. That might help your skin heal. You can also use standard antiperspirant under your breasts if sweat is causing irritation.

Another product to look into is an anti-chafing gel, which are often sold to long distance runners. In the US, a popular one is Monistat anti-chafing gel (which coincidentally can also be used as a make-up primer, since its main ingredient is dimethicone).

Whoops. I didn't see your question about petroleum. I assume you mean petroleum jelly like Vaseline or Aquaphor? I haven't heard concerns about contamination with crude oil (from any reputable medical or scientific sources). Again this is a separation based on the length of the carbon chain, an easy separation. Mineral oil and Petroleum jelly are both non-comedogenic, which means they won't clog your pores. However, that doesn't mean that it is guaranteed not to give you acne. Everyone's skin is different, and responds accordingly. YYMV (Your Mileage May Vary).

There are 3 types of moisturizers: Humectants, Emollients, and Occlusives. Petroleum jelly is an occlusive. Which means it sits on top of the skin and forms a barrier that keeps moisture from escaping (just like mineral oil).

Some people like to use it as a makeup remover as well.

If you mean to use it as a moisturizer, here's how to maximize your efforts.

  1. Use the mineral oil (or whatever) to remove your makeup.
  2. Now cleanse your face (OCM or facial cleanser, I like Vanicream's).

I only do Steps 1 &2 in the PM. In the AM, I simply splash my face with water.

  3. Now apply toner, if desired (I love alcohol-free witch hazel.)
  4. Next apply any treatments you need (AHAs, BHAs, retinols, etc.).
  5. Now apply your primary facial moisturizer (CeraVe, Cetaphil, Neurtogena, whatever you like).
  6. Here is where you 'cap' or 'seal in' the moisture with the Vaseline. (Many people prefer to do this only in the PM. I personally don't mind it under my makeup.)
  7. Optional: I like to use dimethicone here to keep my face from being slick/sticky. Many makeup primers have dimethicone as the main ingredient. I buy one by Monostat because of the price. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0012ZNSWE/ref=twister_B013RDL0R8?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

If it's the PM, you're done! Stop here. If it's the AM, continue.

  8. If you apply sunblock, do it now.
  9. Now apply your makeup.

Congrats, you're ready for the day!

As for using mineral oil as a natural, one-step body mosturizer, it's easy! Simply apply after bathing when your skin is still a bit wet (not dripping). You don't need much.

    I hope that was helpful!

Also, many people with acne are over producing oil because their skin is dry, so drink lots of water and learn about the difference between moisturizers and occlusives over at r/skincareaddiction.

I love this acid

I'm not usually one to take a ton of supplements, but I also developed sudden hormonal acne in my late twenties, and it nearly broke me. I went into whole foods crying one evening because nothing was making a difference. The girl gave me this to try. You take it twice a day therapeutically for a month or so and then once or twice a year after that. My skin began to clear up within a week of starting it, and then all the new skin care tips I'd learned kept my skin looking amazing. I'm actually kind of grateful I had that experience now, because I take much better care of my skin.

I hear you, it affected mine too. I've cut down to a smaller dose which may be the main help. But I found somewhere someone mentioned a product called DIM that helps with excess free estrogen. I've been taking that too and I think it's been a big help. I get bad night sweats which is a sign of estrogen issues (kind of like hot flashes in my sleep). I forgot the dim one night and I was sweaty again. So it's definitely helping with something. I also saw in the reviews for the product I bought (on amazon) a male bodybuilder even reviewing the product and saying it helped him. So I really do think it's going to help but of course I can't guarantee it!

Here is a link - DIM (Diindolylmethane) / Extra Strength- 200mg with BioPerine (2 Month Supply). Promotes Beneficial Estrogen Metabolism in Both Men and Women. BioPerine Allows the Body to Better Absorb the DIM. Commonly used for Estrogen-Dominance. Vegan, Soy-Free, Dairy-Free, GMO-Free, Mico-Encapsulated, and Made with Veggie Capsules. DIM (https://www.amazon.com/DIM-Supplement-BioPerine-Menopause-Inhibitor/dp/B006KL4TYG) & CDG (https://www.amazon.com/Source-Naturals-Calcium-D-Glucarate-Tablets/dp/B000GFSVSW) are both supplements that help regulate estrogen that I learned about from reading various men’s health forums. Dr. Saya and Dr. Crisler, two pretty prominent MDs in the men’s health field also endorsed them. Neither of them require a prescription and I purchased them directly from amazon; links are provided above.

> Yeah, clomid increases estradiol, an estrogen, so that should explain your emotional state.

Yes. I also didn't have an erection for three weeks, got acne, and got sensitive nipples starting Clomid. I started taking DIM every night before bed to get the estradiol down and that fixed the other issues and got the emotions a little bit under control. The combination of both DIM and taking 1/2 tablets instead of full tablets of Clomid made me feel emotionally/sexually/mentally/physically OK.

> You may not be capable of natural production.

My LH is within but at the very low end of the "normal" scale without Clomid. With 75mg/week of clomid, LH is just below the midpoint of the normal range. After dropping from 75mg/week to 25mg/wk over 7 weeks my free T dropped from 450 to 330. I felt AWFUL both mentally and physically during this period.

My endo asked me to cut all the clomiphene for a month to see what happens. I feel less awful now, but not quite right either. I expect I'll be discussing shots vs returning to 75mg/week of clomiphene in another three weeks...

I was taking a vitex/DIM combo and it was very strong. It seemed to help normalize my period. I don’t take it anymore because it would cause me headaches sometimes. Now I take this one: DIM

The progesterone cream definitely lowers the severity of my cramps. Also, my body used to really struggle with starting the period. I would have a whole week of cramps. Now I only have one day of cramps. I take it from day 7-end of cycle. Here’s the one I take: Progesterone

I used these, one pill twice a day for over a month. No difference, no side effects.

On the other hand, this stuff: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B016NAVP2M/

is working great for me.

Preggie pops helped me when I didn’t have an option to lay down or slow down: Three Lollies Preggie Pop Drops Plus w/ Vitamin B6 for Morning Sickness Relief, 48 Count https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00XLUV4E2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_7ENdAb4K3TSBC

They sell them at target too :) sorry you feel so crappy! I’m so nauseated but I haven’t thrown up yet. I had morning sickness most of my last pregnancy and was really hoping I could escape it this time around - no such luck.

u/michelleobamarama · 1 pointr/emetophobia

My experience was similar to those mentioned above. I had some n for weeks 7-12, but no actual v. It was more like a month-long hangover. Things that helped me were making sure I always had something in my stomach, having these preggie pops on hand, and the classic b6 and unisom combination.

Tell your ob as soon as you can, and if you haven’t already, consider seeing a psychiatrist. If you have any concerns about taking anxiety meds during pregnancy, remember that your health is actually the most important thing for your baby’s health. Also, if your ob disagrees, find a new one. Period. You do not need anyone making you feel guilty about the things you need to do to function.

You can do this. Assuming you want this pregnancy, you don’t have to let this phobia keep you from living the life you want.

Anyone have any thoughts or experiences on using ice packs for relief after vaginal delivery? I was looking at buying something like this just in case, but wasn't sure if they're helpful or necessary. https://www.amazon.com/VagiKool-Reusable-Cold-Pack-Komfort-Fit-Postpartum/dp/B018W41DUQ

If you don't have time to get to target you can buy these here: https://www.amazon.com/pH-D-Feminine-Health-Support-Suppositories/dp/B01KGFXSLQ.

Sometimes I only need to use them for one night, but if I actually think I have BV I will use it for 3-4 consecutive nights and that usually does the trick. There's tons of reviews from women who have used them, so if you still feel weary you should read some of those :)

I had to get them off of amazon, I talked to a few pharmacists and asked why they don’t sell them in stores. Apparently, people were taking them orally and not reading the directions so they don’t sell them in NY state. Other states may though. I’ve gotten a few friends hooked on these too they really do work.

You’re knocking her pH out of wack; it’s pretty common. Get her some Boric Acid suppositories. and she will be as good as new.

I take these. It’s called pH-D feminine health support on amazon. If you’re still debating and thinking about, read the reviews. I, myself, love these and think it’s a need for every woman out there.

I had chronic BV for a few years, it was so awful. I would take antibiotics that would give me a yeast infection and that cycle went on for a while.
Now I take boric acid suppositories, and my life is actually so much better.

I would just pick up some PH-D Lady bits are complicated things and can easily get out of whack. Have her put one in after sex, or in the mornings if you like to have sex in the evenings and she'll be back to being really wet.

The emotional / intimacy stuff I can't help with, but from a physical standpoint. These should make a difference without needing to go to a doctor

Hey- little bit of an update! I did some research and I decided to try some Boric Acid supplements for Bacterial Vaginosis, and I’ve seen some really good progress! You insert one into your vagina I think once every night. I’ve only done it twice but here’s a picture of how much better my vagina has been looking: https://imgur.com/a/4qLLtUl . Haha I know this sounds like an Ad but I swear this stuff is pretty great. You can always try it and see if it helps any. But still keep that doctors appointment in case it is HPV. Here’s the link to what I used: https://www.amazon.com/pH-D-Feminine-Health-Support-Suppositories/dp/B01KGFXSLQ

Studies also show that probiotics taken orally have minimal effect to correct flora imbalances vaginally. There are multiple studies that show probiotics placed directly into the vagina ARE an effective method to fix flora imbalances.

I recommend daily boric acid v-suppository every morning and probiotic v-suppository every evening (you can open the capsule, mix the probiotic powder with a safe substance such as water based lubricant, you can just a 5ml oral syringe to place the probiotic mixture inside yourself). I recommend doing this for 7 days initially, then for 2-3 days every month following your menstrual cycle (the time in which pH and flora imbalances are most prevalent).

I agree with the other comments saying that you should keep trying doctors/specialists/urologist/etc. In the mean time, maybe try a boric acid vaginal suppository? They completely cure me of anything and everything when it comes to itching/burning/pain in and around my vagina. I use the BoriCap brand because it's pure pharmaceutical grade boric acid powder and doesn't have a gritty irritating texture when it dissolves.

Good luck!

Thanks for sharing your experience! I don't normally get sinus infections but I've had this cough for weeks that I haven't been able to shake. Recently I have upped my B12 and Iron to see if that helps. I have taken a prenatal for years but there was a study a while ago (I can't seem to find it right now but will keep looking) saying the multivitamins aren't as potent as individual vitamins. I also just ordered this to see if it will help: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B076B38WPS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_..e3CbZXJ0HAD. I'm not expecting a miracle drug but who knows, at this point I'll try anything :/

u/julie_engler · 1 pointr/February2018Bumpers

If you're interested in the "natural" route this feminine spray says it's good for post-partum lady bits and is meant to treat infections, so maybe that's an option? (if you're interested in not going the pharma route)

Absolutely howling at your summary.

I recommend trying yoni oil: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B076BZR74J/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_l-9zDbJPDARTX

Just one spray to take the (b)itch away. But seriously, it’s magic — I get itchy skin everywhere from heat (prickling sensations) but one can’t scratch one’s hooha in public so I use this!
