I would empower her to make her own choice. Tell her that women choose all sorts of "styles" for her pubic hair. If she wants to shave it, she can. If she wants to trim, she can. If she wants to let it be, she can.

In my opinion, it is important that she knows that her pubic hair is part of HER BODY and that she is allowed to make her own choices based on her own preferences. She should not feel pressured to make her pubic hair look any specific way from peer pressure. It is not gross, or unsightly to have full grown pubic hair. On the other hand, it is not "infantile" to remove pubic hair.

That said, should she decide that she wants to alter her pubic hair, she should also be aware of the...repurcussions. Shaving can result in itchy, painful red bumps. Waxing is painful (I am not suggesting you pay for your daughter to have any waxing done, btw). Shaving can also lead to cuts or scrapes if you're not careful. Trimming the pubic hair is a good option at this age though. The likelihood of the skin getting nicked is low, and it keeps the hair short and may help her feel more...well-kept. Maybe something like this.

I've been using the following razors from Amazon for roughly two years. I replace them every month or so. They work great and my makeup application is much better because I use these.

I've been picking out a good shaving kit to send to /u/brwalkernc and /u/runwichi for after they lose tomorrow. I think it suits.

u/cocoviolet333 · 12 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I actually shave my entire face with these shiseido face razors , it gets rid of all the peach fuzz, hair, and exfoliates too. Also called “dermaplaning”. I probably do it every 3 weeks. The myth that hair grows back more is totally false!! After shaving do a exfoliating mask and your skin glows. Makeup goes on smoother too. Been doing this for a year and love the results.

u/ballookey · 11 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

Tinkle eyebrow razors. They're six for $5, use one every two weeks.

I have blonde hair and always felt conflicted about my "peach fuzz" face because on the one hand I thought that's not another thing women should have to worry about shaving, but at the same time even though mine is very light, it bothered me.

Finally saw those razors recommended, and I'm happy with the results. It doesn't remove every bit of hair, but trims it very close, very quickly, and very economically. It doesn't have any negative side effects when growing out. Just about two weeks later I decide to do it again.

Makeup sits much more nicely on my face.

u/beholdkrakatow · 10 pointsr/TheGirlSurvivalGuide

Ive ordered these before. They are much wider.

u/monicamarie798 · 10 pointsr/VeganBeauty

Not sure about the wax BUT can I just say... I've tried everything under the sun for my upper lip since I was about 12. Now I just shave it with these little razors. And no it doesn't grow back thicker or any of the other lies you've heard, I promise. So much cheaper and less painful than waxing.

u/toramimi · 8 pointsr/traaaaaaannnnnnnnnns

You're amazing and empowering and aboslutely valid too! Thank you for working so hard to be the best you that you can be!

I just got done shaving my legs again about half an hour ago, finally a regular thing again after fearfully retreating back into the closet and plugging my ears and going la la la this is not happening! for several years. I'm not sure if it's that my technique has gotten better the past couple of months or if it's the razors themselves, but I've had nothing but super success with these. No knicks no razor burn just soft and smooth and fabulous! *does cricket leg rubbies!*

u/finalremix · 8 pointsr/news

Razors are simply one of the easiest examples for the "pink tax" argument. A real-world example using razors is that my ex used to use those three-blade Venus razors with the lubricating strips and the thing that changes colors when it's time to buy more or whatever. Before just saying "fuckit" and getting myself a trimmer, I used to use those "mach3" razors. She later took my leftover refills when she ran out of hers. Both are by Gillette. Without getting into the insane bells & whistles with the bar of soap wrapped around it for 13 dollars for two razors, the most comparable women's "mach3" razor is this Venus razor 3-pack. It's $8.49. A near-identical Mach3 that we both used is $7.99 for a 3-pack, plus a $2 coupon, so it's $5.99 for the men's razors. It's also cheaper to buy 8-pack Mach3 compared to the Venus.

I get that one's for face, and one's for legs, but she had no problem using my leftover refills and they were cheaper all around.

u/rogerdaltry · 7 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

I love this look!! I definitely think men shouldn't be afraid to experiment in makeup, even if it's just natural makeup as opposed to "full glam". Other people have already said this but I recommend brushing through your brows with a spoolie and maybe a clear brow gel (my favorite is the brow/mascara duo from elf, it's like $2 and the clear mascara is actually really nice as well). You can also try cleaning up some of the lighter, angled hairs (hopefully you know what I'm talking about) on the tops of your brows with a small eyebrow razor. They're more forgiving than tweezers (hair grows back faster) and way less painful. I use these ones and they're awesome. Your arches already really nice so I don't think you need to clean up under them. :) hope this helps!

Why do women have to change themselves to attract men?
Basically for reasons like this I doubt most men in our society can accurately be called heterosexual.
They have fetishisized strident performances of femininity but are repulsed by the actual female body.

Men not being attracted to your fat ass doesn't mean they're gay.

That was the first thing my mind went to as well! I was pissed when discovered that this was a thing about five months after my kid was born. It would have come in reeeeeeeeally handy during those last few months

u/DarcyIsPhoenix · 6 pointsr/PCOS

I shave and absolutely love it! I just pick up these from Amazon and throw one in my purse, my toiletry bag, my makeup bag, and then one at work because my hair has a mind of its own.

I've found that it helps my skin stay healthy and happy because the razor also helps by removing a small number of dead skin cells.

My suggestion for using the small razors is after you take a shower, apply a creamy face cleanser or lotion to your chin/neck/cheeks and then take the blade down the areas with grain of the hair. This will prevent you from getting razor burn and ingrown hairs.

u/pamsabear · 6 pointsr/JUSTNOMIL

Consider referring her to the Benefit Brow Bar at Ulta. They do a nice job for less than $20.

I don't recommend plucking too often because it leads to sparse brows because it damages the hair follicles. Instead I shave excess hair from my brow area using these: https://www.amazon.com/Tinkle-Eyebrow-Razor-Pack-6/dp/B014HNOXZS/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1503759446&sr=8-1&keywords=brow+razors+for+women

I hear you, happens to me when I have to resort to a cart. These aren't too bad in a pinch.

u/nekkyo · 5 pointsr/onebag

What about the women's Venus travel razor? I don't know how different shaving a man's face is, but it works well on legs including all around my knees and ankles. It's not the most comfortable for every day long term use, but I can sacrifice a bit of comfort while traveling. I dumped the case and just keep the cartridge in the refill container with a mini rubber band to keep it closed.

u/dailylotion · 5 pointsr/AskWomen

Venus razors

Those fuckers and the refills are so expensive, but damn if I don't feel smooth and flawless everytime.

u/justhappytobehere33 · 5 pointsr/BabyBumps

I made the most amazing razor extender by duct taping a razor to a long wooden spoon - looked ridiculous, absolutely worked! I've used it three times now in the bath and shower and I honestly think I'll use it post-pregnancy too. You can also buy purposely made ones like this:

https://www.amazon.com/Giraffe-Bath-Body-Extension-Handle/dp/B00HXQP3VA/ref=sr_1_3_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1485511674&sr=8-3&keywords=long+handle+razor

but honestly, the duct tape/wooden spoon thing was free and totally worked. I actually look forward to shaving right now, which I never thought I would at almost 41 weeks...

u/ifisa · 4 pointsr/TumblrInAction

Here are some sources for you:

24 Bic Razors are $1.18/count.

12 Gillette Razors are $1.25.

So she actually picked two that were similar in price. However, the concept that one company's razor made for men is better than another company's razor for women even though they cost similar amounts is really dumb. They aren't made by the same company and there was no blinding in her study. Since she has a bias, she obviously will not shave her legs as gently with the female razor.

Edit:

/u/JuryDutySummons pointed out I grabbed the wrong razor. The Sensitive Sensible is $1.69/count. That's 43% more per razor, so her comparison is not good based on price either.

u/meatloaf_again · 4 pointsr/BabyBumps

I used this even before I was pregnant: http://www.amazon.com/Gillette-Venus-Bikini-Trimmer-Count/dp/B007T6XDF2. I love it! I feel cleaner when there's less down there, but I don't like to shave completely because it irritates my skin too much - this is the perfect length and you don't need to be able to see since the blade is behind the guard. :)

u/x_painted_crane_x · 4 pointsr/thebachelor

Side note — shaving all of the peach fuzz off your face with tinkle razors helps! I do it once a week and my foundation always looks sooo smooth afterwards.

u/[deleted] · 3 pointsr/AskEconomics

Quite simply, modern economics lacks the methodology to consider ethics. Asking an economist what's ethical sounds like the setup to a joke.

It might be worth noting though that there is quite a bit of gender based price discrimination in markets. Car insurance is a classic example, and it took me 30 seconds to find this example (men's product; women's product) on Amazon.

u/anilorim · 3 pointsr/powerlifting

Haha, I throw them away because I can't get the all of the old skin out and it's kinda gross. I use BIC disposable razors btw. Not the greatest for the environment I know, but I don't use them that often.

u/allicat621 · 3 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

Not a foundation recommendation but I have the same issue with peach fuzz so I started using these little facial razors and my foundation goes on a lot smoother! And I can wait longer between waxing my upper lip which is a nice bonus.

u/DeyCallMeTater · 3 pointsr/AskWomen

Does it have to be electronic? I'm a big fan of dermablading and you can buy pretty inexpensive razors for that. Or you can use the dermaflash - Of course, I recommend doing a bit of research and deciding if it's right for you :)

(Part 2/2)

Face:

Foundation - Nars, Giorgio Armani, L'Oreal, and Elf cosmetics (Elf is one of the cheapest and best drugstore foundation out there!) have really good ones!!! ...If you want something that makes you glow, get a sheer coverage foundation ...apply primer under and then some liquid highlight before applying the foundation - trust me, you will glow!!!

Concealer - Nars is the best or you can even try another drugstore holy grail that is cheaper by Maybelline to hide scars, breakouts or dark circles.

Blush - Milani has some really good blushes! So does Sephora brand or Makeup Forever.

Highlighter - this will definitely make you glow whenever the light touches your face!!!! Hahah, MAC and Anastasia Beverley Hills has amazing highlights. Wet N Wild also has very cheap highlights for like $3-5 that are blindingly glowing if you spray some MAC fix plus on your brush and then go in with the highlighter!

Makeup tools:

Really good to have some starter ones to practice with and they make your makeup look better + you waste less makeup.

Elf cosmetics and Real Techniques has some amazing starter brushes... the eyeshadow brush set and the face brush set by Real Techniques is really good for the low price you make for it!

Perfume: Definitely go to Sephora and try out every one of them (sometimes Amazon has sales on luxury perfumes for less!).

Fashion: ASOS, Forever 21, Mango & Target has some really cute pieces of clothing. Check Pinterest and Instagram for inspiration!!! :)

Other: Get the men's Gillette razor has the other person mentioned!!! It is bomb! Haha... I use conditioner or coconut oil down there when I shave.... it's better than shaving cream and it prevents the itching and stuff! lol For legs, I use Nair Hair Remover Lotion (Amazon usually sells 3 a pack for like $15 - really cheap!!!) or Gilette shaving cream for women! Also, don't do this always ...it can damage your teeth, but once in awhile, it won't hurt your teeth... take baking soda and water, make a paste and brush your teeth with it... your teeth will have that instant whitening effect. Don't do this always, but you can definitely do this when you do to those fancy occasions and you gotta make your teeth look sparkling white! lol, works like a charm! :)

Hope that helps!

Tinkle Eyebrow Razor Pack of 6 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B014HNOXZS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_UyB6CbBRJ7JD0

I use these to keep my facial hair under control. I keep one in my bathroom, one in my car, and one in my purse and just quickly take care of it whenever I notice it growing back in. Would highly recommend.

u/ameoba · 3 pointsr/NoStupidQuestions

Sometimes the handles are bigger for easier shaving in the shower. Sometimes they use different perfumes on the lubrication strip. Some of them have extra plastic around the head for reasons I can't comprehend.

But, beyond that, it's mostly just color & marketing.

u/Schmellaburst · 3 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

try the noxzema bikini line shavers. https://www.amazon.com/Noxzema-Bikini-Shave-Disposable-Shavers/dp/B001EJIMRO they don't do a super close shave, and so don't cause the same irritation, bumps, ingrown hairs, etc. just be sure to shave in the direction of the hair.

u/jam219 · 3 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I use a razor on most of my face. I get dark mustache hairs that I have to constantly tweeze. I have very sensitive skin so I tested this on my neck before doing my face.

I use Tinkle Eyebrow Razors from Amazon.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B014HNOXZS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_6NE0BbADAK77D

Edit. There are fake versions on this brand so be careful when ordering online.

u/Keewahs · 3 pointsr/beauty

Hi- I know this isn't exactly what you asked, but have you ever tried dermaplaning? I do it about 1x/week using these: https://amzn.com/B014HNOXZS

You have to be careful when you start, but I've never cut myself and my makeup goes on so much smoother afterwards! There are some YouTube videos out there that show you exactly how to do it. Article pretty much sums it up here: https://www.charlottesbook.com/treatment/dermaplaning/

u/PM_ME_UR_REDPANDAS · 2 pointsr/AskWomen

Give these a try. I used to get terrible razor bumps when I used a regular razor on my bikini zone (I had very dark, thick hair). These helped a lot. They’re very small (less than 1” wide) and have guards along the blade, so they’re a lot less likely to accidentally cut you than a regular razor.

Two things you should know. First, you have to hold the razor so that the flat part is flat against your skin for the best cutting angle. If you find the razor isn’t shaving well, try adjusting the angle. And second, the handle can get slippery when you’re using it if your hands are wet.

Some drawbacks, but all in all, I found them a huge improvement over shaving with a normal razor. YMMV of course.

u/Dpecs92 · 2 pointsr/AsianBeauty

Look up facial shaving on YouTube or reddit. I do it and know a good amount of people in the beauty subs here do too. The best way is using a single blade razor designed for this: Tinkle razors.

u/protestor · 2 pointsr/ForeverAlone

This. It's glorious. Pretty much impossible to cut yourself with one of those. It can do the whole groin-perineum-perianal area.

u/khaales · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddicts

Ouch! Maybe see your doctor about underlying issues (hormonal imbalance etc).
Personally I shave my face every day because I sell makeup for a living & my face has to look good, and I’m a naturally hairy person. I use a Japanese facial razor like this and it doesn’t irritate my sensitive skin that much. Hope this is the tiniest bit helpful!

u/GlassRockets · 2 pointsr/AsianBeauty

Kinda, but with a long handle so that they are easier to use. Here are the ones I bought

u/sej_19 · 2 pointsr/TheGirlSurvivalGuide

If you've been feeling like this for a long time then its almost certainly not just a phase. Does your mother know how long you've felt like this? If you've been feeling like this before puberty then that will pretty much knock down any arguments she may have.

And for shaving I had a hell of a time trying to get used to it initially. I actually just purchased this a few weeks ago. You can use it dry without any shaving cream at all. You won't cut yourself. If you go "against the grain" and realize that the angle of the razor is incredibly important you'll have a much easier time shaving. As for shaving your genitals it may be absolutely terrifying at first but recognize that they're just as strong as the rest of your bodies skin. Sure be gentle while doing it but don't be afraid. For shaving your butt your going to need a mirror and a sink in front of you. I don't know how far you want to go but it won't take that long to shave your legs those are the easiest part of the body to shave. I found that my hair begins to grow back after about 48 hours which sucks but there isn't really anything you can do about it. I honestly want to get laser hair removal myself. I absolutely hate having hair all over me.

u/mrmojorisingi · 2 pointsr/wicked_edge

Yeah, I think this goes to show that it's all in the prep. Bic does make some, with a yellow plastic handle. These are sold in bags of like 20+ at Walgreens, which I definitely did not need. I opted for the fancier 4x3blade Gillettes because the Bics looked, well, kind of janky. Gillette also makes the Guard, which you can buy online from stores that import it from India, but I needed my disposables immediately. Trip's on Tuesday!

u/zoidberg3000 · 2 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

I have used the tinkle blades and the sephora brand ones but they both are a bit longer so I wonder if I should try out the smaller ones.

My current hair removal strategies.

  1. For mass getting rid of hair that has been there for forever, I have used this successfully - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001KYPZ4G?ref_=ams_ad_dp_asin_1 Do NOT leave it on for more that 10 minutes. I have successfully used this on my balls and other areas that are hairy, but I don't/cant shave.

  2. For shaving, at least initially, I used this razor. It is not the best razor in the world, and the stuff on it gets used up WAY too quickly, especially if you are shaving your whole body. BUT, it is super easy on your skin. The bad news is that after 4 shaves or so, it gets used up. As my skin is getting more accustomed to the razor, I am working my way towards more standard disposable razors.

  3. Not sure if I 100% recommend this yet, but it has been helping. I purchased an at-home laser which has been helping somewhat. I have pretty pale skin, and my hair is dark, so I was an ideal candidate for this. Still, I have been through 2 full body sessions thus far. I can report that it has helped, but I still feel like I need to shave every other day. (Which is an improvement from feeling like I needed to shave twice a day)

I still have not done much with my face, as that device does not allow for facial use on men. (Not sure how I qualify there...). I was planning on doing professional laser and probably electrolysis on my face. My hope is that I can get away with using this to reduce hair everywhere else to the point where it becomes a non-issue.

Not sure how well this would work on a face, but they make tons of razor extenders to aid women with shaving legs. This one I know is adjustable in length and angle, so I think it's probably one of the better options for shaving a face.

If you have any suggestions or advice on how to go the dewy route, please do tell! You do it very well! I've always gone with matte foundations and have been too worried going into the dewy goddess realm.

I hear that dermablading (shaving) your face will help with makeup application if you didn't want to go the waxing route. I've used these guys to just touch up my eyebrow area if I can't find tweezers, but they work just as well on any other part of your face. But again, haven't gone and used them for my stache.

Can anyone else chime in on face shaving?

u/auntiechrist23 · 1 pointr/AskWomen

I have issues with my hands sometimes (numbness and tingling, rather than shakiness) that make them really unsteady while holding a razor. Schick makes a women's razor called Intuition that has a thick soap/moisturizer cartridge around the blades. I find that I don't cut myself as easily with the extra padding. It's also a bit bigger and more ergonomic size than a lot of them, so it's easier to grasp and pick-up if you drop it. Which I do. Frequently. It works very well, but my only complaint is that I have to swap out the blades more often than other razors because the soap thingy gets worn down before the blades do. Totally worth it. I usually order the refill blades on Amazon because they're much cheaper there.

There’s an example. There’s different scented ones so pick what you like that way. Make sure you’re getting one with the handle part, the ones that don’t have a handle will say refills usually. I always get ones that say sensitive to start with for anything because I’ve had minor reactions to scented things so if you have sensitivities to things choose a sensitive one. I personally like this one and the purple one I think it’s coconut and almond, I’m sure of the coconut not sure on the almond lol. I hope you love it as much as me!

OR you could get the Venus blades with the gel built in (https://www.amazon.com/Gillette-Venus-Womens-Scented-Refills/dp/B003EMNITQ/ref=sr_1_3?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1482111253&sr=1-3-spons&keywords=venus&psc=1) it just makes it easier to shave everything... I'd say 10/10 worth the splurge.

I use one of these type of razors and gently shave the fuzz off in the shower while my oil cleanser is on. I used to do it dry but that irritated my face. Using a generous amount of moisturizer afterward helps.

My family was/is never open to discussing things, so after puberty set in, I also experienced the thought that shaving was what I was supposed to do. That was my first and only time shaving bare. I definitely prefer trimming, to avoid the strands that get stuck and snap/pull in underwear, and during my period.

I don't want to say that any way is "cleaner" because that seems problematic, like society brainwashing women into thinking that their bodies are something to be ashamed of. (Tiny rant...)

Either way, I LOVE my pubes! My FOOF!

Came back to say that I SWEAR by these razors.
Last year, I spent some time without shaving because I couldn't find them at Walmart, and was skeptical about ordering them.

I tried those once too (amazon). Bought a 4 pack for cheap bout wound up throwing all of them away after just one use. Even with lavish amounts of shaving cream, I was covered with nicks and outright cuts up and down my legs.

I use single blade BIC razors. I shave once a week, against the grain, with water only. No ingrown hairs, bumps, or razor burns.

I recently discovered Venus razor heads with Olay soap/moisturizer built in and it's totally changed my shaving routine. Used to be about once a week or so, now it's every couple of days.

would these mini razors help?

Mine is not noticeable at all but for some reason when my anxiety is out of control it drives me CRAZY and kind of pull/pick at it?? This has become necessary

Get her these to use instead of waxing. She’ll have to shave her stache more often than if she got it waxed, but it most likely won’t leave her all irritated. My girlfriend uses them all the time for this reason and for her stache.

So cute! I love the different colors of pink in your eyeshadow, lips and hair. They go well together!! I bet you could experiment with incorporating a pink like your lips blended into your eyeshadow.

I know people have pointed out suggestions for your brows, I just wanted to add that I use these little facial razors to shape my brows: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B014HNOXZS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_yWD-AbYWCC6ZF

Makes it super easy to get into those tight spots for a clean look, but without having to spend the time/hassle of plucking. Just a suggestion!
