Finally my time to shine.

If you are looking for a good-for-everything watch, you have a few options. If you are looking for an automaitc watch (no battery, purely mechanical) you really can't beat the SKX007. It has excellent durability, classic looks, and the lume (glow stuff on the dial) is excellent. There is no battery to die, although you may need to get it services in a decade (or get a new one). Leave it on the bracelet for a sporty everyday look that can go with a suit, to a wedding, or a funeral. Throw it on a NATO strap (how I wear my watch every day) for comfortable everyday wearing. Get different coloured straps for different things, and change it up. A new strap can make it look like a totally different watch.

If you want something that will do almost any occasion without a mechanical movement, basically any Citizen Eco-drive will do the job. I myself like the Citizen Nighthawk, although it might be because I'm a pilot. The slide rule on the outside is great for addition/division (how much to tip, how much tax, etc.) and it will tell a second time zone.

If you are looking to make a statement, there is nothing that tops the Seiko "Orange Monster". This thing is built like a tank, the utomatic movement is proven, and the lume is out of this world. It also comes as the "Black Monster" if you want to be a bit more subtle.

If you are looking for a dress watch, I would recommend the Orient "Union" as it has a durable, in-house movement and great looks.

If you are looking for something badass that will be great for nighttime, there is the Traser Code Blue. It is a very durable quartz watch designed for military operations. It has vials of tritium (hydrogen with two neutrons) and will glow without any exposure to light for at least a decade.

If you are looking for a digital watch, I would recommend either the Casio Mudman if you are looking for a large, indestructable watch (That is also allowed for space travel by NASA) or the Casio F91W which is much slimmer, but less durable.

Possibly one of the best deals in "stylish" watches is the Timex Weekender. The come in a million different colours, have an electric illumination, and are very stylish and durable.

My advice would be to get the SKX007 on the bracelet, and then grab a few NATO straps. I have had great customer service interactions with Clockwork Synergy. Their straps are of decent quality, and their service is second-to-none. If you have a little cash left over, grab the F91W for chores are hiking, or anywhere you may need a stopwatch and illuminated face (i.e. Flying).

TIMEX WEEKENDER

price: $27-$50

Movement: QUARTZ

Style: Casual

Size: 38mm

Link: Amazon

Description: The best value watch available in my opinion. Looks pretty good, lasts a long time, water resistant to 30 feet. Can't beat for a beater watch or just an everyday sorta thing

u/PLanPLan · 43 pointsr/technology

>Because it has no sophisticated electronics inside, it's also said to last as long as 60 days on a single button battery.

60 days? I bought my Casio G-SHOCK over 4.5 years ago and it hasn't required a battery change yet.

EDIT: Apparently the G-SHOCK has an official battery life of 10 years.

u/punkrockextravaganza · 30 pointsr/Watches

I just graduated from high school and I wanted to get myself a small watch reminiscent of those generic clocks they have in all the classrooms. The Timex Easy Reader was the cheapest and classiest looking option.
It's exactly as the name describes, an easy reader. The dial is a very light silver which I'd rather be plain white but oh well. Day-date is a nice touch. Indiglo is also nice. It's just a nice little 35 mm watch. I also put a new strap on it if anybody was wondering.

The designs are based off these I believe:

  1. Casio Calculator Watch

  2. Rolex Submariner

  3. Casio F91w

  4. Timex Weekender
u/daedalus000 · 26 pointsr/medicalschool

I've had This Timex for years and have gotten plenty of compliments on it. Little do people know it was under $30!

u/travinspain · 24 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Check out the Timex Weekender. I've had several compliments about this $30 watch and there's a seemingly infinite number of alternate bands which are easily changeable.

u/Burning_Beard · 23 pointsr/frugalmalefashion

Hijacking the top comment to save people some stress about loudness. I've personally handled over 50 timex watches, from the weekenders on down. If they have a moving second hand, they're loud as fuck.

BUT, the weekender chrono's are absolutely silent. The second hand is stationary and the seconds dial is really really quiet. I have this one, but pretty much all timex chrono's are quiet.

Usually there are always debates about a Seiko and the Citizen Eco Drive watch. You can get a Seiko automatic mechanical watch for under $150 that uses the popular and reliable 7s26 movement. Another popular watch would be one of the Orient Mako dive watches. I already own a Seiko SNK807 watch and just ordered a Seiko Orange Monster online (both of which use the 7s26 movement).

The reason why I chose the Seiko over the Citizen is because I wanted mechanical watch with the sweeping second hand rather than a quartz jumping second hand. But, with the Citizen, it'll never stop (unless you live in a cave or the sun blows up). Automatic watches will stop after about 40 hours of no movement.

Orient Mako is a very popular dive watch. It comes in a wide variety of colors (with black and blue being most popular). http://www.amazon.com/Orient-CEM65001B-Black-Automatic-Watch/dp/B001EWEQ3A/ref=sr_1_22?s=watches&ie=UTF8&qid=1325124897&sr=1-22

Here is the one I own. The SNK80* comes in various ways also. Black, blue, nylon strap, metal bracelet, green, rubber strap, etc

The odd looking orange monster I just ordered and can't wait to get it :D Comes in orange or black with a rubber strap or metal bracelet http://www.amazon.com/Seiko-SKX781-Orange-Monster-Automatic/dp/B000EPLR2G/ref=sr_1_1?s=watches&ie=UTF8&qid=1325125001&sr=1-1

Quartz is more accurate I believe, though mechanical watches are usually accurate to +/- 5 to 10 seconds a week (or was it day?). If the watch isn't solar powered then you'll need to replace the battery on the watch every so often. Also with the non-stop Invicta watches you see on Amazon, I've heard some people say some bad things. For sure brands though are Citizen, Orient, and Seiko in your price range. I don't know how BI4L they'll be though. Don't solar panels lose their effieciency over time? Also the 7s26 movement uses a few plastic gears. I don't know much about the insides of the Mako. They should all last 30 years easily though with some maintenance (taking for a tune up every 5-10 years).

Alright, I've given you guys 48 hours to post this one, so here it is:

SEIKO 5 SNZH55

If I were you I'd check out JCPenny if you can today.

They have several non-iron Stafford OCBD's for $15. I bought one of their fitted shirts and it fits and feels amazing. They also have gingham broadcloth shirts on clearance for $11. You can spend around $50 and pick up 4 nice shirts for work from them.

While you're there I'd also check out the Stafford wingtips if that's what you're looking for. Right now they're $50 and are widely accepted as one of the best buys for the $$.

If you're fine with chinos you should swing by H&M if there's one near you. I picked up two slim fit chinos (not skinny) for $15 each, and they fit me very well. I had to size down a size, but the fit is on point.

Shoes shirt and pants should be first I think. Once you pick up the shoes you want, you'll want a matching belt. At your budget I think I'd try somewhere like Marshalls for a cheap $5 belt that would last you a few seasons, until you make enough to buy a better quality one.

If you don't have to wear a tie, maybe consider investing in a watch. The Timex Weekender gets circlejerked a lot, but I think it's a wonderful starter watch. You can buy a couple of straps eventually, and that would let you have another piece to help rotate work outfits.

To recap:

  • 4 shirts for $50 at JCPenny

  • Stafford Wingtips for $50 at JCPenny

  • 2 pairs of chinos from H&M for $30

  • A starter belt for ~$5

  • Timex Weekender for ~$30

Which leaves you with $35 to work with. You could buy a better belt for $40, or buy a couple of watch straps. You could buy more expensive shirts, or simply more shirts. Maybe more pants? All up to you, but I'd suggest the budget that I outlined.

Once you move to San Francisco, I'd HIGHLY RECOMMEND going to Uniqlo in person to try on their OCBD's. The fit on their stuff can vary sometimes, but trying it on before you buy would save you that headache.

    Good luck, hope that helps

A cheap Timex that I got on Amazon. Based on my hourly billing rate, I take shits that cost more than my watch.

I'm glad you couldn't find the "Steve Jobs" Seiko honestly. It's a horrendously overpriced, mediocre quartz watch. It is a nice minimalistic style, but you can achieve the same effect for $10:
https://www.amazon.com/Casio-Quartz-Resin-Casual-Watch/dp/B000JNKABW/ref=sr_1_2

This one you got though is pretty awesome, looks great with nice lumed hands and numerals.

u/knoland · 18 pointsr/seduction

That outfit make you look like a high schooler. Though if that's the vibe your going for awesome, but I doubt it.

I'm going to assume you're in your early 20's and not a high schooler, nor do you wish to look like one.

The biggest issue with this outfit is that there is no unity between the pieces, it looks like you just threw on whatever was in your closet that day. My goal is to keep your overall style the same, but make it look a bit less immature. Try out some of these tips, and I think you'll be amazed at the difference.

  1. Can't tell if the white on your feet are socks or the shoes, but if they are socks, ditch em or get no-shows.

  2. Those glasses look like they came form one of those cart dealers you see at rest stops, buy some decent shades without the stupid reflective coating. (I'm a big fan of the classic RayBan 2140's, though I wear 2132's cause they go with my face better).

  3. It looks like you're wearing a red beanie, which goes well with the red shoes. That being said, I hate the shoes, they stick out like a sore thumb and detract from the overall look of the outfit. Either try swapping them out for a more neutral color or add more color to the chest part of your outfit (ideally a aqua as it goes well with red without looking like christmas)

  4. I REALLY (I mean REALLY) hate the button-up over graphic tee looks. Is just screams high school. Obviously that's subjective, but I absolutely can't stand it. I used to do it when I was in high school and thought I looked like the shit. That being said, if you are going to do it, I say ditch the graphic tee and go with a solid color that compliments the color of the button up (For example, I have a red checked button up that I wear over a teal v-neck). Personally, I like to button the shirt up to the third button, so the tee underneath just pops up the top. Like so

  5. That shirt does not fit. The shoulder seem does not look like it lands on the apex of your shoulder bone like it should. Also the sleeves on the shirt are billowing like mad. Also your sleeve rolls are sloppy (though that may be intentional).

  6. I would ditch the metal watch for a cloth band one. A popular option (and one which I love) is the Timex Weekender. Metal bands are typically more formal than that outfit, so it looks out of place as hell.

  7. Jeans look fine, I like slimmer, but that's personal preference.

As for your point about shoes not being as important as people say, I have to disagree. Look at this and this. Just changing the shoes has a profound effect on the overall look and formality of the outfit.

P.S. This is my favorite outfit for going out, though sometimes I go more basic with just a V-neck.
u/Wiesenthal · 16 pointsr/Watches

You can go beyond your budget for a little bit and check out the Tissot Visodate. It's the first thing that came to mind when I read your post. Available both in Black and White, double sapphire crystal, automatic Swiss movement, can't be wrong!

The Orient Bambino might also fit your description, and it seems to be gaining lots popularity lately. It also comes in a very comfortable price. It's Automatic and available both in black and white, though it does not have Sapphire. Personally I'm in love with the black, also looks terrific with a Honey Calf strap. It's in the style of mid 20th century dress watches though said to be larger than the average size of these, so take a good look at the sizes.

Also, congrats on your graduation and good luck!

u/DonnyBraaaasco · 16 pointsr/AskUK

I've had the Casio MQ-24-7BLL for almost three years, battery died this month though.

Purchased the bad boy for only around £8 at the time too.

u/adamscottama · 14 pointsr/Watches

In this price range, it's probably going to be a dive watch and most likely a Seiko or Orient. Here are a few:

u/Gruntman441 · 13 pointsr/streetwear

Casio F91W-1

Casio MQ24-1E

Casio MQ24-7B

Timex Men's Expedition Scout

These are what I have and rotate through, they're pretty great.

u/Danke_Baku · 13 pointsr/Watches

Pay no attention to douchebags like /u/Koczk88. Some people can't handle anonymity and insist on being miserable little twats.

Describing that watch as the "white t-shirt of the watch world," is spot on. I like it a lot, it's simple, functional, and versatile as hell. As someone whose world travel consisted of carrying a rifle around shit hole deserts, I'm extremely jealous of your trip! Enjoy and be safe!

Here it is on Amazon US though the ref. ends with an FM, where yours has a DR.. looks the same though.. maybe a different hand set..

u/DevilishRogue · 12 pointsr/Watches

The Casio MDV106-1AV is a perfect daily use watch and does look like the Rolex Submariner but is a great watch in it's own right. It is quartz rather than automatic but considered by many to be best available budget dive watch. You can purchase the bracelet for it for less than $30.

If you must have an automatic rather than a quartz then the Orient Ray II is a great option that is also similar to the Submariner in terms of design but again a quality time piece in and of itself.

And if you aren't bothered about having the Rolex style looks, the Seiko SNZH55 is designed along the lines of the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms and also an excellent timepiece.

u/MFAlurk · 11 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Get this one instead. Looks better.

u/coldtoescolderheart · 10 pointsr/femalefashionadvice

I started wearing one for work when I found myself getting twitchy in meetings and other circumstances where it would be impolite to pull out a cell phone or crane my neck to see a clock. I now am uncomfortable if I leave the house and forget it.

I have sturdy wrists so dainty watches don't work for me at all. My daily watches are a Nixon Kensington in all gold, and a two-tone Timex men's Easy Reader, both bought on sale. I will probably upgrade at some point in the future, now that I know that I am a committed watch wearer.

I think watches, specifically mechanical watches, are fascinating. You could get a nice looking seiko like this for 70 bucks

Edit: search "seiko 5" on Amazon for a lot of different similarly priced options

u/Llew94 · 10 pointsr/Watches

I was watching this video and recognised his watch almost immediately, I actually own an SNZ17K but I just thought it was nice that he's using a budget watch while he works in his workshop, he mentions owning a Speedmaster in one of his other videos.

u/hbaas · 10 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Watch bands are interchangable, so pick based on the actual watch.

I prefer the cream face this one has

u/YFC · 10 pointsr/frugalmalefashion

Not a lot on Amazon at the $25 price range, but I guess I'd recommend the Timex Weekender as a good casual watch. Alternatively, you can wait until they have a sale on them, which should be as low as $20.

Timex Weekender A very versatile watch that looks good on a variety of straps.

Casio Forester has the advantages of a digital and an analog. 100m water resistance so it's safe for pool, beach or shower.

For $30, your best bet is Casio. They make good quality watches at very low prices. It's just a matter of picking out the style and features you like.

Hey guys! This is my first time contributing to this sub, hope you enjoy! I'm not to familiar with high end brands so I got some item inspiration from posts on this sub. Also, the high end t shirt is supposed to be acne, not APC, typo. The fit pic is one I found in an old inspo album I have, so I couldn't find the source. Here are the links:

unpopular opinion to follow:

Personally, I don't understand the G shock for every day wear. For going to the gym or sporting activities, sure - but i'd prefer something less...gaudy? for edw.

For a proper adults watch and a really reasonable price point look to Orient, specifically the bambino or mako to get you started.

I've seen men at nicer events wearing g-shocks and it always strikes me as what happens when you tell a child to 'wear whatever you want', you shouldn't be too surprised when they come out of their room wearing a spider man costume.

/2cents.

If you're into a 'chunkier' design, I would reccomend the Suunto Core It's a bit higher than your price range but it's got a more streamlined look, I have one and it's tremendously useful if you're active / outdoorsy.

u/aleatoric · 9 pointsr/gainit

That's weird, that has literally never happened to me. I'm 33 and I wear watches every day and none of them are over 38mm. My everyday beater that I wear to work/wherever is a Timex EasyReader (I've gone through a few at this point). Case diameter is 35mm, and there's not much feminine about that watch. If you wanted something nicer looking but similar you could get a Daniel Wellington which is has 36mm and 40mm options.

u/turdbogls · 8 pointsr/Watches

HMT Janata is pretty cool.

Timex and casio also sell some pretty decent Sub $50 watches as well.

timex fairfield is solid

casio MDV 106 is a solid diver for sub $50

u/mysterygin · 8 pointsr/malefashionadvice

A lot of people recommend the regular Weekenders but they tick really loudly. They look great and are worth their price but the tick bothers me.

The best watches I've found for under $100 are:

Seiko 5 in your preferred color

Casio MDV Diver

Timex Weekender Chrono (Doesn't tick loudly)

If you choose one of these it's really easy to switch out the strap with one of these (spring bar tool)

I own all three of these watches and they are great. You can also check out different straps on Amazon or sites like cheapestnatostraps.

Having an idea of your wrist diameter would help. Anyways, I have small wrists too and wathches with dials in the range 35 - 38 mm such as this Timex Easy Reader or Timex weekender work for me.

u/HaikoopedMyPants · 8 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Honestly, I get the most compliments of any watch I own when I wear this simple Timex Weekender, and because it's so cheap, you can afford to buy a couple of other bands to add versatility. They're clean, go with pretty much every outfit, and work fine.

u/EnterTheMan · 8 pointsr/malefashionadvice

obligatory Timex Weekender.

Pick a color, any color.

For casual wear I'd suggest a nylon band, something like this one or this if feeling patriotic. This and this if brown leather is your thing. Get whatever your eye fancies.

Heck, just buy a watch with a clean silver face/bevel and then get two extra straps to go along with it.

u/ShayanC · 7 pointsr/malefashionadvice

You can never go wrong with a Timex Weekender or EasyReader. Those two are the most recommended on here, and you can probably find them cheap on Amazon. However, you would probably have better and more in-depth advice over at /r/watches.

u/mwyckoff · 7 pointsr/Watches

I'd second a Timex, but I'd recommend one from their Fairfield collection.

u/Herrfurher12 · 7 pointsr/Watches

You've heard wrong. MVMT is the absolute worst company for the price. It is just a chinese watch with chinese movement, nothing new. avoid brands like these, for ex: Daniel Wellington. I suggest you start by looking at Timex, my favorite brand. After that, Seiko, Orient, Citizen etc. I'm giving you amazon links to my favorite ones.

Im a mechanical watch person, and my go to suggestions in the under $200 price range are Orient and Seiko. Even the $70 Seiko 5. I have had one of these for near a decade and it still just chugs along. Probably the most suggested budget dress watch has to be the Orient Bambino. If youre looking for a quality quartz that has chrono functions, I dont think the Timex Weekender can be beat.

There are others, but those can get you started.

u/CaiusMarcius · 7 pointsr/Watches

Seiko 5 is a solid watch.

Orient Ray is one of my favorites.

Hope it helps.

u/acroyear3 · 7 pointsr/Watches

Plenty of Seikos don't cost anything like as much as the SKX007: for example, the SNZH55 (which I own) - Amazon link

I think most people here will agree that they are bloody good watches, particularly in the "value for money" category.

u/Andtheangelsswing · 7 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Really wouldn't suggest it, there is a fairly similar Seiko 5 in your price range which would be of much better quality and within your price range. Parnis watches are known to be slightly questionable in their qc.

Edit: there are lots of similar Seiko 5s but here is one somewhat like that (and slightly cheaper): http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0045D6570/ref=pd_aw_sims_1?pi=SY115&simLd=1

Posting another one of my favorite cheap but stylish watches I've added to my rotation. I purchased the OD Weekender a few weeks back and something about it just didn't float my boat. After scouring the web for a decent Nato strap seller, I purchased this strap along with two others from The Nato Strap Co. and immediately fell in love with my Timex's new look.

Though I love the Weekender's high looks/price ratio above everything else, I especially like how easy and readily it accepts new Nato straps. I look forward to purchasing and photographing more in the future.

Thanks for taking a look!

u/exfratman · 7 pointsr/NavyBlazer

For a general, all around "I don't care" watch, it's tough to beat the [Timex Weekender.] (https://www.amazon.com/Timex-Unisex-T2N651-Weekender-Watch/dp/B004VR9HP2)

u/alphamini · 6 pointsr/Watches

Just wanted to throw in another similar looking (and cheaper) option. I got this one a few months back and it has been great so far.

u/ZombieLoveChild · 6 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Timex Weekender. Tons of options and very economically priced. Only downside is that it ticks very loudly.

If you want to go a bit pricier, Skagen is on the better end of "fashion" watches quality wise, and I genuinely love the look of a lot of their models, particularly this one.

Also, check out Seiko, Citizen and Bulova for some of their more basic looking models. You can't go wrong with any of the brands I named, I own one of all of these except Skagen, but I know they're good stuff. It just comes down to how big of a watch you want and how much you want to spend.

u/bodhi1235 · 6 pointsr/Watches

Timex Weekender is a great, inexpensive watch. I'm afraid you overpaid, especially for used. Brand new on Amazon is just over $30

https://www.amazon.com/Timex-Unisex-TW2P91100-Fairfield-Slip-Thru/dp/B0194L6AMC plus a tan leather band from Amazon (shouldn't need to spend more than another $20)

The Fifth/The Horse/DW/Rossling & Co/Braithwait/etc all buy the same $3 watches from the same factory in China, put $5 bands on them and sell them for $150. Such watches barely last more than a year.

The Timex, on the other hand, is a known manufacturer with a strong legacy of making robust, quality watches at low prices.

I present to you my budget watch collection!

Bottom Row:

Cleaning cloth, cufflinks/ring/tieclip...

Skagen 430LSX Variant
This was my 5 year gift from Best Buy, and I wore it every day for almost 6 years. it was sleek, and functional, and I got almost daily comments on it. I enjoyed it, and I still wear it on occasion, but some time last year, I started poking around, and getting the itch. All off a sudden I was lurking here, and poking around on watch blogs, and as if all at once, a new hobby was birthed.

Timex Weekender
My third watch, once I became more educated on watches and how to wear them, I really wanted to get my hands on a casual, weekend watch. One that I could wear with jeans and a shirt. This really fit the bill, and I love that I can swap out the strap super easy. I wear a different tie every day, so it's nice to carry that over into the weekend as well. Yeah, it's loud, but I grew up in a home with pendulum clocks in every room, so it's practically silent in that regard.

Gemony Straps I got on super sale, another random strap that came with the Rider

Rider GT&FQ M002 (Nomos Knockoff)
After much deliberation, my grail watch was decided upon, as the Nomos Ludwig 38. This is not that watch, obviously. I fell in love quickly with the Bauhaus style watch, and as a father of 2 on a single income, it's going to take some time to reach the point of getting my hand on a genuine German Made Bauhaus. So I went with the Chinese knockoff. There is a direct knockoff of the Ludwig, but I decided to go with the Arabic numerals, because I wanted to keep the grail that more special. I also grabbed a Fluco suede brown strap to spruce it up a bit. It is by far my favorite watch I own, and I keep having to find reasons not the wear it (such as all the other watches I love).

Skagen Archer Chronograph
This was my second watch. After the quality displayed by my first Skagen, and my initial worry about an automatic being a bit too thick, I went with this quartz chrono. It's a bit flashy, and I love the seamless transition to the leather strap. Of course as my first chronograph, for the first moth I was timing everything, but that has since slowed down, and now I just use it to make the perfect cup of tea, and time awkward silence in meetings. Overall, I'm very happy with the purchase, as it gives me a second dress watch to swap out with the Rider at work. between these two, my Monday-Thursday is set.

Seiko SNK615
This started as a big blue walmart watch for Christmas from my Grandmother. Bless her heart, she really wanted to get me a nice watch. I just didn't like it though, it was a bit too flashy, and was huge, even on my moderately sized wrists. Thankfully she included the receipt, so that I could swap it out for something else. I was able to do just that, got cash back, and went online to find a new watch that was still in the spirit of her gift: Bracelet, Blue, Simple Faced. I ran across this guy on Amazon, and I know it was the right fit! I added $20 to her money, and secured my first Seiko 5! I do like it a lot, and the date is far easier to read than on the Skagen, and I think that this is probably one of my most versatile watches. easily work on casual Friday with an oxford shirt and jeans, as well as with a sweater on the weekends. I'm also a big fan of the yellow (? colorblind) accents on the second hand and numbers.

Well, there you have it, my humble collection, built on almost no budget.
____

I'm looking at for my next purchase to be a big busy watch with a slide rule, there's a Casio Ediface, and a Seiko that I've got my eye on... or if I decide to spend some real money, a sub grail of mine, the Citizen Red Arrows Chrono AT

So the timex weekender for twice the price? Why is your product better?

u/smgnyc4 · 5 pointsr/Watches

I've dug a bit more after I got some suggestions regarding manufacturers and I think I might order this one

u/SkepTiKalKloWn · 5 pointsr/Watches

Casio and Timex both have decent digital watches in that range. For an analog, Vostoks are great looking if you don't mind that they can gain/lose alot of time in a day otherwise Timex and Seiko has some good basic stuff that you could put a metal or rubber band on if it doesn't come with it already. Outside of that if all you can spend is $100 most of what you'll find either gonna find are cool looking but flimsy pieces or decently made but basic watches. If you can up your budget even to $150 your options from Orient, Bulova, and Citizen open up a little bit.

None of those are going to win a bunch of support around here. If I had to choose between those three... Skagen quality can be sketchy, Tissot is a well-respected brand but $200 for a simple quartz dress watch is getting high, and the Bulova is just another quartz fashion watch... I'm stumped but I think I might opt for the Tissot.

Have you checked out the Orient website? They have 30-50% coupon codes you can use. Also consider something like this solar/quartz or this mechanical + a leather band as alternate options.

Looks like the reflection of a typical wristwatch, with the cuff of a white button-down shirt in the upper left corner. In fact, from the image I’d guess that this is a Timex weekender watch, due to the rounded chrome face and large numerals. u/Barnst probably took this pic from a bus or while driving.

It's nice, but you can get a Weekender for about the same price.

You could spend more money on a better color, but you can easily change the straps on Weekenders by just unthreading them, so I'd suggest going over to Crown & Buckle and picking out a strap that you like. This one looks incredible on red-second-hand Weekenders.

u/thomaslw21 · 4 pointsr/malefashionadvice

I purchased this watch over a year ago, and it's still going strong. The retail price is over 100, but I believe it can be had on sale fairly easily if you look around.

It's an automatic, and I've seen some complaints about a loud tick, but that's not been the case at all for me. It's certainly more quiet than the Weekender by Timex, which may also interest you. My only complaint about the Rodina was that the strap it came with was terrible quality, which is unsurprising at the price point. I just purchased an assortment of NATO straps, including one leather, that I switch out frequently.

Another option, outside of the Timex, is this Seiko. It's another automatic, and it's regarded as one of the more reliable budget watches. Seiko has several other watches in the 50-150 price range you may be interested in, so I'd shop around for one that fits your criteria.

You have some options, but if I were you, I'd make my main focus reliability. A lot of cheap watches will stop working fairly quickly, and after that, it doesn't matter how pretty it is. It's now your most handsome paperweight. Stay away from brands like Invicta. If it looks like a Rolex but costs less than a trip to Olive Garden, it's probably trash.

Edit: Spelling errors.

Seiko 5 Automatic SNK809 - $65

Seiko SKX009K1 Dive Watch - $180

Citizen Eco-Drive BM8180 - $124

Timex Expedition Field Chronograph - $48

Timex Weekender - $32

Casio G-Shock DW5600E - $41

Casio F91W - $11

Do you have any preference towards digital, quartz (battery powered), or automatic (mechanical)?

These watches are all slightly more than $50. Seiko is a reputable brand. The watches should be fairly durable, though not as reliable as something more expensive. All three are automatics and the first two have exhibition case backs so you can see the inner workings.

I got everything on Amazon:

- Watch from Seiko

- Perlon band from Clockwork Synergy

- Leather band from Hadley Roma

- Buckle from Hadley Roma

I mean, ok, if we were to compare Orient and Seiko, I think Orient wins overall.

For instance, the Orient Ray II is $159:
https://www.amazon.com/Orient-Japanese-Automatic-Stainless-Diving/dp/B01AK5TQE0/ref=sr_1_1?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1510583470&sr=1-1&nodeID=7141123011&psd=1&keywords=orient+ray+II

The Direct Seiko Competition (SKX009) is $203:
https://www.amazon.com/Seiko-SKX009K2-Divers-Automatic-Stainless/dp/B000OP1M6M/ref=sr_1_1?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1510583493&sr=1-1&nodeID=7141123011&psd=1&keywords=seiko+skx

The Orient gets you a bit better bang for the buck with hacking and handwinding. Something that the Seiko doesn't give you. Now if we look at the look at Seiko's cheaper option, the SNZF15 at $139:

https://www.amazon.com/Seiko-Stainless-Steel-Automatic-SNZF15/dp/B001ELSSOO/ref=sr_1_16?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1510583493&sr=1-16&nodeID=7141123011&psd=1&keywords=seiko+skx

The Seiko SNZF15 doesn't hack or handwind, has only 100m water resistance, and although I haven't seen the two side by side, I'm willing to bet that Orient has slightly better quality materials/finishing than the Seiko 5.

Now the amusing thing about the Invicta is this, it uses Seiko's own movement that they use for $200-800 watches, yet they pack it in watches that come in under $100. Their quality and materials aren't even that bad, no worse than Seiko 5!

u/Hudmaster · 3 pointsr/Watches

If he's looking for a watch that's less "dainty" but is sleek enough to be worn with a suit, then maybe the Seiko SNZF17 "Sea Urchin". I've had mine for a couple months now and it's hard to not wear it most of the time. If you want more color, then maybe the pepsi bezel variant (SNZF15) would do the trick? You can usually find the black one on sale for between $100-130.

u/opus666 · 3 pointsr/Watches

The Seiko SKX line are usually diver models.

I will be the first to tell you that you should ultimately buy the watch you want. And if this is that watch--go for it.

Having said that, I am a really big fan of sticking with the mechanical watch. Why? Because you really don't need a watch at all to keep time these days if you carry a mobile phone, like most people in most circumstances. That simple fact brings watches more towards the category of "accessory" as opposed to "gear," but there is one really big factor that can blur the sharpness of that distinction, and that is sticking with a mechanical watch.

Good mechanical watches cost more than good quartz watches of similar quality--that's a fact. But the reason for this is the quantum leap of craftsmanship that an accurate mechanical watch must possess. I mean, these things use synthetic rubies to reduce friction--that's what the jewel number indicates with watches like this or this or this. Take a glance at this clip about the detailing going into one of the least expensive mechanical watch houses you can buy from today, viz. Russia's Vostok (remember to turn on the English subtitles).

I have to admit, I'm not too keen on the styling of the Timex Weekender; so, I'd have to hunt around for a good, mechanical parallel. But if you have summarily dismissed mechanical watches as being uninteresting, I hope you'll reconsider. I bought my first two for $150 total thanks to ebay and a Christmas sale from Orient in the first case and Parnis in the second, and it was absolutely worth the additional expense given the dramatically greater level of craftsmanship. For me, this made the watch I wore something more than a mere fashion accessory; it became something like a wearable tribute to artisanship. If that's something you value, you might find that you like mechanical watches, too.

u/tigerbravo · 3 pointsr/Watches

Seiko SNZF17 is also one to look at with more of the Submariner style.

u/P695 · 3 pointsr/Watchexchange

Up for sale is my Seiko SNZF17 with modded bezel insert. Seiko SNZF17 specs. I recently found a semi grail so now I need to let a few go. I bought this watch used and have had the watch less than 6 months with minor wear as you might expect with no marks on crystal or bezel that I can see. Keeps good time but I haven't officially checked. Comes with everything in the picture including the original bezel insert if you want to put it back on.
Asking $115 shipped to CONUS. Please feel free to ask questions and thank you for looking.
Thanks

For bauhaus watches you might want to look at mondaine or braun.

With the more military look, these are always popular http://www.amazon.co.uk/Seiko-Mens-Automatic-Watch-SNK805K2/dp/B000LTAY1U/ref=sr_1_6?s=watch&ie=UTF8&qid=1370202169&sr=1-6 there are a few choices of dial color, and you can get a better case for a little more money.

At that price I would go with a Seiko SNZH55. The Amazon picture kind of sucks, but if you do an image search you'll find some much better pictures. Spend the left over cash on a Hirsch Liberty strap. You'll have something that looks like this.

Looking for any general advice or other suggestions

u/potato1 · 3 pointsr/RedditForGrownups

Depending on what you're looking for in a watch (basically as long as you don't mean a dress watch), there are good looking watches that don't cost $100. The Timex Weekender, for example, is a favorite of Reddit's fashion communities.

u/zanglang · 3 pointsr/frugalmalefashion

Total cost (in USD):

  • Timex Weekender with Olive strap - $19.99 sale
  • ComGateway shipping for a single 500g package to Singapore - $14.71

    = US$34.70 ~ approximately RM114.56

Shipping to Malaysia is generally about twice as expensive as Singapore, so you can consider asking for a quote from cheaper forwarders like vPost, Borderlinx and some other guys operating out of Lowyat.net, or set up a mass-order to save shipping too.

Timex Weekender

If you go month to month, it costs $30. I think you'd get a much, much better bang for your buck buying a Timex Weekender on Amazon:

https://www.amazon.com/Timex-Unisex-T2N651-Weekender-Slip-Thru/dp/B004VR9HP2/ref=sr_1_1?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1494987412&sr=1-1&nodeID=7141123011&psd=1&keywords=timex+weekender

If that's not your style, and you're really, truly not sure what you want, doing watchgang for a single month is probably not the very worst thing in the world. You definitely won't be getting a $30 watch. In honesty, I would be quite surprised if you got a $10 watch.

But if you're ok with the fact that you're paying a fee to someone to send you a random watch they sourced for as cheap as they possibly could as a way of helping to refine your style, then that's cool. There's worse uses of money out there.

If you just want something that's relatively minimal, even a Timex will be fine for you. You can always switch out the strap for something more formal, like leather or metal - I wear a Timex Weekender with a leather strap most days at work.

If you're interested in delving more deeply r/watches is a good resource, although their tastes skew expensive. There's a style summary that can give you some ideas about styles and brands to search for. If you want super minimalist stuff, I'd look into Bauhaus styles (which is where my preferences are), but those tend to be more formal looking.

u/theultrayik · 3 pointsr/malefashionadvice

>it needs to have probably a plastic (barf) band, because of all the oil/gas/grease that it will undoubtedly be subjected to.

Oil degrades plastic. He'd probably be best off with a nylon band. You're also really not going to get anything too "rugged," since we're in the laughably cheap price range.

I'd recommend this guy

u/bjk1 · 3 pointsr/Watches

You could toss a weekender on a leather NATO

u/ere737 · 3 pointsr/malefashionadvice

I'm trying to decide on a Timex Weekender to be paired mainly with casual/denim clothing. The more versatile, the better. It appears the main things to decide on are 1. case size (40mm or 38mm), 2. face style (chronograph or standard), 3. face color, and 4. strap color. Below are a few of the options I've been looking at; I'm open to other ideas also.

40mm

u/Ibioc · 3 pointsr/malefashionadvice

I believe the Correct answer is either 18mm or 20mm should fit, they come from the factory both ways.

I've been looking for a "vintage" modern looking watch and I decided on the Orient Bambino.

u/Frijji · 3 pointsr/Watches

Okay, you might like the [Orient Bambino]
Or the Orient Esteem (I like the open heart, so you can see the movement working)
These are both automatic mechanical watches meaning they'll wind themselves and usually only require a service every 10 or so years.

Orient is a division of Seiko and it's a nicely regarded brand

u/KAYAWS · 3 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Orient Bambino is my favorite watch in that price range. There is an all black version too.

u/Grazfather · 3 pointsr/malefashionadvice

How did you forget the Orient Bambino!

u/skyleth · 3 pointsr/Watches

I think the Orient Bambino would be a good pick (it's also available in a silver finish but black band so you'd have to change that yourself), more interesting than a sea of similar Bulova, Citizen, and Seiko quartz dress watches.

This Seiko Chronograph might be nice also but busier. And coming in well below budget is the Timex Forty Weekender.

u/tehichigo · 3 pointsr/TeenMFA

Things that I would personally do differently: not that shirt with those jeans. Black jeans/khaki's and we'll talk. Pockets are too big. Lose the pocket watch, get a simple watch instead. Shoes look clown-sized, ditch that, I'd go for slimmer shoes (Puma style), or desert boots. And for the love of god, unless you're going to a glow party or something, don't match your laces to your shirt: do you want people to look up to your face, or at your feet?

u/terts_mcgerts · 3 pointsr/malefashionadvice

On the fence about these boots and which color to get them in. I think I prefer the tan leather, but am not sure if they would be as versatile as the other options.
Also, could the tan leather match with this watch?

tl;dr: work in research lab, tips on dressing a little less like an undergrad?

Hi all,

I’m in my mid-twenties, work in an academic research lab (cancer bio), and get mistaken for an undergraduate student all the time. It’s at least somewhat unavoidable, since I’m very baby-faced (a bartender recently told me I look like I’m 17) and I have to be on campus all the time, but I know there are multiple changes I could be making to lessen this image, especially professionally.

Our lab doesn’t have much in the way of a dress code, although most people in the lab wear jeans and closed-toe shoes. Full coverage is required if we’re working with specific hazards (viruses, mice), and even then, I’ve seen people just don the required PPE over any manner of attire. One of our grad students (who, admittedly, rarely does bench work) wears cargo shorts and flip-flops in the summer, while a female post-doc (who works with mice multiple times a week) wears cute skirts with flats most days, usually without leggings. Both of these are considered fine; however, from a safety perspective, I would not feel comfortable showing skin below the waist.

My everyday work attire consists of a pair of straight-leg dark-wash jeans, a plain v-neck t-shirt / blouse / turtleneck, tennis shoes (lightweight cheap athletic ones), basic stopwatch, wedding band, eyeglasses, hair pulled back in a high ponytail, and no makeup other than some brown eyeliner and tinted chapstick. I bring my laptop, travel coffee mug, and lunch in a small Outdoor Products backpack. Let me know if you’d like me to message example photos directly.

Some things I’ve considered:

  • Ditch the backpack, obviously. Unfortunately, while messenger bags do look very professional, I’m a small person and I really don’t want to throw out my shoulders. I bought this cheap canvas backpack to see if something like this can work before committing to a more expensive/long-term bag. Thoughts?

  • Nicer shoes. I know basically nothing about shoes, so any and all advice would be appreciated! I do enjoy wearing flats outside of work, but in the lab, it’s important for my feet to be covered and protected from spills. Heels would be a definite no.

  • Different hairstyle/makeup? My current look is extremely low-effort, and unfortunately there’s a lot of visual overlap between “research apathy” and “college exams apathy”. My bone structure does look especially young without my hair obscuring part of it. This question is maybe better suited for another sub though, and regardless, it's definitely not the only contributing factor.

  • Grow some facial hair?? (kidding, but the stress beard did work for my fiancé)

Any other advice would be greatly appreciated. I feel like I need so much help. Even if I can’t be treated seriously all the time, I at least want to be treated my age. :|

  1. Yes, bring at least 5 copies of each document, won't hurt to have more.

  2. Bring a tube of toothpaste, toothbrush, razors and shaving cream. Plan on being there for at least 11 weeks (my reception was two weeks long before basic actually started, I forgot the reason why it was so long). And a bar of soap (you can buy more when you get there if you need to). Don't waste time or money on body wash and a loofah. A: You'll get laughed at and B: You'll stink anyway like everyone else.

  3. You will be issued all the clothing you'll need when you get there. Just bring 3 pair clean socks and 3 clean pair underwear.

  4. Micellaneous: Bring $40 cash with you and your bank card, a voided check (to set up your direct deposit) don't sign up for the the whatever-its-called on-post-bank account, you'll never find a bank branch anywhere at home. Your phone, and any information on your dependents if you have any as well as a copy of your lease. As national guard on IDT status, you should be getting BAH type II (for all the haters out there, yes, you should get BAH, you're not going active so you still have a home to pay for when you get back, I got BAH at basic, AIT,and while I was deployed, search my comment history for the referenced DOD policy).

    NOTES:

You will have an opportunity to go to the PX prior to the start of basic or right at the beginning of basic. There you can buy stationary to write back home with, your PT shoes, a cheap $30 timex sport watch is HIGHLY recommended. You really don't have to bring much of anything other than the bare essentials. You won't have the time to enjoy much of anything and most everything you'll need will be either issued or you'll have the opportunity to buy it at the PX when you get there.
u/timmythetoole · 3 pointsr/Watches

Most are cheap and cheerful Chinese brands that have been known to lose time and break down which is why people like to buy known respected brands.

If you just want day and a date with that price range, why not Timex https://www.amazon.com/Timex-T20041-Reader-Brown-Leather/dp/B000B55AEA/

Timex Men's T20041 "Easy Reader" Brown Leather Strap Watch is the full name I believe. I bought it from Amazon via this link: http://www.amazon.com/Timex-T20041-Reader-Brown-Leather/dp/B000B55AEA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1396292093&sr=8-1&keywords=timex+leather

u/MinnesotaMike29 · 3 pointsr/malefashionadvice

The best thing about the current outfit is the belt. Even that may be a little narrow/formal for the event, but it will do. You have four main items to focus in on this week. The most important being new shoes in a similar belt color and a watch. If you have the money new chinos and shirt.

Stafford Wing Tips for $42 are a good choice and can be found at your local JCPenny's. Read up on dress shoes and get something less formal. (Lighter shade of brown and brouging)

For the watch, a $27 Timex like this is a good deal and gives off a casual vibe. What ever watch you chose, get it from a reputable watch maker instead of a mall clothing brand. Timex, Seiko, Citizen.

Your current pants are baggier than what MFA typically recommends, an inch or two too long causing bunching by your ankles, and that is why you are seeing comments about poor fit. For your pants, I would get on the casual/slim end of the spectrum Gap's Lived in Slim khakis or a little more formal because of the leg creasing and fabric: Express Photographer. Pick a Light Brown, Lighter grey for less formal and a darker grey or navy blue for a little more formal.

For the Shirt I would highly recommend the Uniqlo OCBD. Sadly you may not receive in time so I would recommend J Crew's slim shirts. They fit similar but are a little more pricey. To make it more casual, get a shirt with a button collar, in a light summery color or patterned in a pleasing pattern like this.

Hope this helps and have fun next week!

u/percypersimmon · 3 pointsr/malefashionadvice

There are a lot of intro to suit things in the sidebar.

Here's a quick run-down from what I know:

You need two suits, navy and charcoal. Both should be single breasted, 2 button (unless you're over 6'5" then 3), with notch lapels. The cut should be slim without being skinny, but you can get away with a slimmer cut @ 18 than you can in your late 20s.

You can stay simple with white, but I like a lighter blue with a bigger check like this, but again, a matter of preference.

The white shirt makes it easier to pick out a tie. If you're doing plain white, or a solid then you really should get a striped/patterned tie or at the very least it needs to be textured (silk knit). If you were to do a checked/striped shirt then pick a different pattern for the tie (e.g. checked shirt gets a regimental striped tie). You may or may not want to do a pocket square for an interview. I personally wouldn't for something as traditionally conservative as law school.

I think you should look at yellow for a predominant tie color, it's good for interviews.

I would look into getting brown shoes if you are wearing a navy suit, get a decent pair too as you'll want these for several years as well (try to get some leather bottomed oxfords).

Match your belt to your new shoes. The watch is a little weird, just seems like a hybrid of too many differing styles. Something as simple as the (perennially recommended in MFA) Timex Easy Reader is cheap and effective. It'll balance the look without overpowering. Leather strap is also better in a suit than metal.

Get a nice haircut before as well (well a few days before so it doesn't look too new when you interview).

Buy the suit in enough time to take it to a tailor, this really isn't negotiable, you must do this even if it looks like it fits off the rack. There's always a tweak. Also be sure to wear the shoes/shirt/etc you're going to wear to the interview to the tailor when you go to get alterations.

If my arm is at my side it slides down just a bit but most of the time it stays about an inch away from the wrist. I've got the Timex Easy Reader with Brown band. Since it's not a heavy watch it doesn't slide down much.

u/crazindndude · 3 pointsr/Wet_Shavers

I have 3 watches, for different roles. They're all quite inexpensive because I'm not big ballin' just yet, but IMO look good and perform great.

  1. Seiko SNK809 "Seiko 5" - This is my dress watch. I swapped the band for a nice black leather with a butterfly clasp. Wear it pretty much only with a suit, which I've had to do a lot lately for interviews. Understated, elegant, and the only automatic I own.

  2. Timex Easy Reader - This is the workhorse. I bought a couple of nylon NATO bands and ditched the stock band. I wear this at work and pretty much in any casual setting. If I ding it or spill something on it, not the end of the world. Got it on sale for $15. Quartz movement and 10yr battery. Solid piece of work, classic Timex.

  3. Timex Expedition Chronograph - I like Timex. They make good stuff and it's functional. This is my most recent acquisition, Amazon had 50% off Timex watches for Cyber Monday. Also got a couple of NATO bands for this one - here's the black/grey stripe one I'm currently using. This watch kind of sits the middle ground of beater and dress. I wear it when going out for pretty much anything except work or formal stuff.

Wow, my girlfriend saw me looking at that purple MK and now she desperately wants one! Too bad it looks like they're out of stock basically everywhere.

She's got another Michael Kors and I'd say the quality is pretty alright. Assuming she takes good care of it I'm sure it'll last past a battery change. They're built by Fossil who builds a ton of name brand fashion watches too (Armani/Armani Exchange/Burberry/etc.), not saying Fossil is the end all be all but this specific MK seems solid. It's a fashion watch but it tells time and it doesn't feel majorly cheap like some Fossils I've handled so she thinks it's great.

I'm sorry you're having buyers remorse! That looks like a pretty unique two tone, I've never seen grey and rose gold together. For quality and unique/fashionable style I'd take a look at Invicta. They have a zillion styles and the four I own are very solid. The Invicta brand is known to have some build quality issues; I've heard about them with some of their cheaper/lower end watches but I've also heard across the board there can be some issues. It's just luck of the watch. Mine personally don't have any quality issues. They make automatics and quartz in all shapes and styles. If you see one that you really like (and it's not Rolex/Oris/etc. homage) than chances are you have to buy that watch to get that style. It will be worth it!

Seiko and Citizen make a really solid watch, IMO better build quality than an MK and an Invicta put together. I am not in love with all of their styles though. A lot of people tend to recommend Seiko 5s but I personally don't like many of their styles. Fashion does not seem to be Seiko and Citizen's foray; good build quality is! The only Seiko I own is an Orange Monster and I know it could definitely take a beating.

Lastly, tomchuk has the right idea looking on the WatchUSeek.com forums. People there are always offloading watches so it's a good way to see what your $300 can really get you. Most of those guys are really meticulous about their watches so a lot of the time you'll get a watch in very nice condition. You can definitely snag one of the more extravagant/expensive/fashionable Invictas there if you search around (if that's your style), and you can find cool old Seikos that are still tickin' like he posted.

Hope you find what you're looking for and please post pictures when you do!

Have you looked at Orient watches? They are a Japanese brand who designs and manufacturers their watches entirely in house. They make watches with an unmatched value at the lower price ranges. Seiko is another Japanese brand that dominates your price point. For you I would consider the Orient Defender, Orient Bambino, Orient Ray II, Seiko 5 (any style you like) and Seiko SKX.

Perhaps the dressier Seiko 5s? Example.

u/count_downvote_ · 3 pointsr/Watches

I would pick up a swatch for the everyday/match most things piece to balance out what you have. Or save some coin and pick up a Seiko 5 — have fun with that gift card!

u/parallaxarcsecond · 3 pointsr/Watches

I'm just getting into watches again and this is my first automatic. I've been enjoying reading this subreddit and watching a lot of Youtube watch channels and picked up that the Seiko 5 line is a great entry level watch. Most people recommend the 809, but I didn't want to go for that one as I've already got my eye on a few other higher-end Flieger-type watches, so I wanted to find something different in the Seiko 5 line and this one caught my eye: https://www.amazon.com/Seiko-SNK789-Analog-Automatic-Silver/dp/B0018N0HL0. I've had it a week and it's been great. It's surprisingly high quality and looks even better in person than it does in pictures. I just put it on a NATO yesterday and that's been a nice change, too, although the bracelet it comes with is not bad, IMO.

u/omnomanom · 3 pointsr/frugalmalefashion

I just got this same model at Amazon for $27.36 shipped with their 30% off Cyber Monday deal.

u/tingtwothree · 3 pointsr/Watches
u/Do_Not_Go_In_There · 3 pointsr/Watches

Well, if you looked into it beforehand then that's a different story, it kind of sounded like you just bought it on a whim because of the discount. If you did the research and knew what you were getting going in and are happy with it, then I'd call it a win.

I personally don't have much of an opinion on DW. It looks nice and it seems to use a Miyota movement which is good, but reviews seem to be hit or miss. I like the style but think that most of the cost of the watch is because of marketing, but then again that's nothing new.

There are a few other brands that have a good reputation like Citizen/Bulova/Skagen and have been around for awhile and offer similar styles. The new Timex Weekender Fairfield is actually nearly identical, and at half the price would have been my choice (plus I love Timex's indiglo feature).

u/SilenceSeven · 3 pointsr/Watches

A Timex Weekender Fairfield is almost the same watch, but includes Indiglo. for $47.

u/allan37825 · 3 pointsr/Watches

Hi yall,

I am new to this hobby and looking for a low-cost watch that is casual smart. I've read way too many reviews, but still cannot decide which one deserves my hard earn cash.

u/NowHerePresent · 3 pointsr/Watches

haha, you seem to know alot about this, i have a funny feeling this is your site, lol. :p

You ask for another brand, i would go with Braithwait.com. Also check out Skagen as well. Personally I like to hop on AliExpress and get these watches for $5 lol. Yes they may break, but they last a year and i buy a new one with the same look! lol. :p and ofcourse this:

u/Username_Used · 3 pointsr/malefashionadvice

With jeans, tshirt and boots/sneakers? Get this and throw the NATO strap on it and save yourself $900

I honestly get more compliments on this watch than any other I've worn. It really is a nice looking casual watch in person.

u/gennui · 3 pointsr/Watches

If your budget is less than 100, I'd recommend looking at quartz watches. My dad isn't as into watches, for him it's just a tool. So I wouldn't want him to deal with the downsides of a mechanical watch (i.e. inaccuracies over time, stops if not worn).

Maybe look at some timex weekender styles, they have a lot of interesting designs:

Here's an example

Another timex weekender (I have this one and it ticks really loudly)

Here's a watch I've been a little interested in lately (Citizen BM8180)

u/JitteryPenguin · 3 pointsr/malefashionadvice

when i went to my interview most of the IT guys were wearing slacks / chinos and button downs with sweaters. some with a tie, some without. That's a far nicer dress code than anywhere else I've ever worked. This is uncharted territory for me.

I wasn't really thinking of a traditional dress watch. just something simple. like This Timex honestly.

u/bigbootypanda · 3 pointsr/Watches

The Weekender, it's a quartz movement, and it can be fitted with basically any strap. You said your nephew is active, he can pick up a cloth NATO for himself for on ebay for something like $7-12.

Alternatively, you could do a Seiko 5, it's a rugged watch, but maybe slightly less suited to a 16 year old?

u/JewWhore · 2 pointsr/Watches

I'd say buy 2 or 3 for $50 to $100 each. I bought 3 watches (for less than $100 total) before I finally figured out what I like wearing. My first watch was a chronograph on a steel bracelet. I learned very quickly what I do and don't like in chronographs (this one had many features I disliked), and I figured out that, like you, I dislike steel bracelets. I still have that one, but I don't wear it. After that I figured out that I like divers, so I ordered one of those. It turned out I didn't know enough about watches and bought something that didn't fit at all. I figured out where I went wrong, and bought a third watch. It is the one that /u/fragilestories recommended, the Casio mdv106. I wear this watch daily. I think it was nice to have a few and wear each for a while, and doing that let me get the perfect watch. Now that I know what I like, I know that when I spend $200 to $300 on my next watch it will be great. I am planning to upgrade to the Seiko SKX007, which will be my first mechanical watch. I guarantee that I will wear it every day once I have it.

Think about what you want to use your watch for. Will you look at it in class when writing the date on your papers? Get a date window. Want to time things? You need a chronograph. Figure out what features you will use and go from their. Or go for what you think looks the coolest, even if it has different features than you would use.

Also, look through this sub and think about what looks you like. Do you like numbers? Roman numerals? Symbols? What colors do you like? What straps do you like (these are pretty easy to change, but you will have to add straps into your budget if you want something other than what the watch comes with).

Here are 3 watches that will give you a good variety. These 3 will let you rotate watches, change your style, and figure out what features you like and don't like. The three together fit your price point (or are very close).

I love diver's watches, and would start with this: Casio mdv106:
https://smile.amazon.com/Casio-MDV106-1AV-Stainless-Steel-Watch/dp/B009KYJAJY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1467354240&sr=8-1&keywords=casio+mdv106

I like some chronographs, especially the ones symmetrical across the right and left faces. The Timex weekender is great:
https://smile.amazon.com/Timex-Unisex-TW2P623009J-Weekender-Display/dp/B00QIJ62M2/ref=sr_1_3?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1467354305&sr=1-3&nodeID=7141123011&keywords=timex+weekender

Maybe you'll find you don't like any complications on your watch (I personally do not like date windows. I think watches look better without them. However, I do use it every day on my watch, so I have a begrudging appreciation for them). Here's another Timex without anything but an hour, minute, and second hand:
https://smile.amazon.com/Timex-Weekender-Fairfield-Quartz-Casual/dp/B0194L6AMC/ref=sr_1_7?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1467354305&sr=1-7&nodeID=7141123011&keywords=timex+weekender

Tl:dr You won't know what you like until you've worn a few different watches. A $150 budget is enough to buy several watches, so do that and pick a favorite.

u/frmmtl · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

For watches, I've owned smart watches (pebble and a moto 360) and own many analog watches. I prefer analog to a fitness or smart watch any day of the week if your primary purpose is to have a watch on your wrist (and not an extension of your smart phone).

For watches, I have 3 recommendations, all under $100:

  1. Timex Weekender: This is a cheap, <$40 watch. Nothing too fancy but it's become somewhat of a staple. [Here's a link.](http://www.amazon.com/Timex-T2P4959J-Weekender-Display-Leather/dp/B00LW3RCW8/ref=sr_1_1?
    s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1464118386&sr=1-1&nodeID=6358539011&keywords=timex+weekender)
  1. Seiko SNK809: This is a fantastic automatic watch. I have one on my wrist right now. It's a great intro to automatic watches. Link Here.
  2. MVMT watches. I've read a lot of good things about these. They have a very minimalist design which a lot of people like. Link here.

Watches are extremely personal. The colour of dial, bezel, and strap can be endlessly customized. Gold tones are very popular right now though a black strap/silver or white dial will always be a classic.
Another thing to consider is the size of the bezel. You'll want to pick the right size of watch depending on your wrist size.
u/Scooby-Dooo · 2 pointsr/Watches

Definitely a weekender, looks like this one here

u/NAKED_AND_JAMESON · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

So, both of the watches you linked are described as "fashion brand" watches. This means that a popular clothing company has taken a pre-existing quartz movement (usually) then put it into a casing of their choosing and branded it. These watches generally won't break, but they are usually poorer quality than watches made by genuine watch brands at approximately the same price point.

Timex is a good starting point for watches. They look good, hold up well, and generally have very few issues. They're also fairly inexpensive. They typically use quartz movements. Quartz movements use circuit boards and batteries to operate the watch. They're accurate, but the cheapest method for creating a watch.

The second primary method for a operating a watch is automatic movements. These can either be hand-wound by the dial on the side of the watch, or they use a small weight in the watch to automatically (see: name) wind the watch as you move. As your arm moves, the weight spins around and winds up the watch. Automatic watches are more expensive generally, but usually also higher quality.

A good brand for automatic starter watches is Orient. They have a number of offerings in the ~$100-$150 price range that are very very good quality for the money you're paying.

Here are some specific recommendations for watches that are a great bang-for-buck ratio:

  1. Orient Mako II (automatic, $169, "dive watch" style).

  2. Orient Bambino (automatic, $159, "formal" style).
  3. Timex Weekender (quartz, $37, casual)

  4. Seiko 5 Automatic (automatic, $70, "formal" style).

Generally speaking, most watches from Timex, Seiko, and Orient are all great, quality starter watches. I personally own an Orient Mako II in pepsi, which I love. Feel free to PM or check out /r/watches for more information.
u/beyeukr2004 · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

My stance on this as a watch enthusiast: the thing about watches is that they don't need to be expensive to be good looking, decent/high quality and from a reputable brand. The Timex Fairfield looks exactly like a DW watch at 1/3 the price and easily better quality.

Seikos, Orients, Casios, Timex routinely get upvotes along with the Rolex and the Omegas. People shit on "fashion" watches is like people shitting on a $50 t shirt from Zara. Unless it's a unique piece (see my comment history on the Slow watch, $300 is wayy too much for them but I'd totally get it on sale), don't buy crappy fashion quartzes.

u/artie_fresh · 2 pointsr/frugalmalefashion

Same here but I wanted this 41mm and they only have a 44mm. Don't know which to get.

u/venusprefers · 2 pointsr/Ultralight

My daily driver is a timex weekender chrono. Not exactly UL, but it's been reliable for several years and I like the way it looks. I replaced the strap with a woven perlon nato-style strap that's a lot lighter and more comfortable for hiking. The non-chrono version is lighter but I find the chronograph very useful in the backcountry for things like keep track of aquamira, steeping tea, tracking mileage/pace.

u/liangster7 · 2 pointsr/Nexus6P

It's some Timex I got for $17 on Black Friday. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LW3RCW8?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00

Looks like it jumped up to $60, crazy!

u/vanillamode · 2 pointsr/Watches

if you want a chronograph in that price range, take a look at Timex. They have plenty of options, like the Weekender chronograph or the Expedition chronograph

If you are interested in a Seiko chronograph, one thing to be aware of is that the chronograph records the minutes on a 60min subdial, which is really tiny and hard to read, and kind of limits their usefulness past 59 seconds in my experience. Compare to the Timex chronograph, which records minutes on a much easier to read 30min subdial, with the trade-off that it can only record up to 30min.

a dive watch with a rotating bezel can also be used as a timer. Timex has some diver-styled watches like the Allied Coastline or Expedition Ranger, but they don't really have the water resistance to be true dive watches. You can look at the Casio Duro as well, which actually is a dive watch.

these so far are all quartz watches. if you are interested in a mechanical watch, your budget probably limits you to Seiko5 or Vostok, maybe Orient if you can stretch your budget a bit more

u/braising · 2 pointsr/femalefashionadvice

I have a timex weekender watch and I'm hoping to get another timepiece that fits the same nato strap that I already have, but with a DATE INDICATOR. I don't know the technical term for this feature and I'm having a devil of a time tracking something like this down? Any help or suggestions appreciated. My strap is approx 2cm/3/4" wide.

this is my watch

u/thebarrytone · 2 pointsr/frugalmalefashion

I would definitely look at Timex or Casio, then. A popular choice is the Timex Weekender, and you can get them with a 1-piece leather strap like this that can be swapped out with a host of other colors and options in seconds. I have and love this watch, but the one criticism is a very, very loud tick. Wait for sales to get it cheaper, and stock up on various bands and enjoy!

u/ClosetedCloset · 2 pointsr/Watches

I don't think it's terribly big but it's far too thick for your hand IMO. I'd look for thinner options if you want an automatic watch with lume (the stuff that makes the dial glow).

Unfortunately, you can't really get an automatic for that low unless you look at used options. BUT, I'd give the Seiko 5 lineup a glance.

Here's a watch that perfectly fits all of your specifications, That is: Under $100, Automatic, has Lume on the hands, and it should fit your wrist size.

  • Seiko SNK789

    Here's another:

  • Seiko SNKL07

    And another:

  • Seiko SNKK47

I'd return it and keep looking around. The watch gave you a good idea of what wrist sizes you should be looking at. All of the watches above are between 36mm and 39mm respectively.

Look through the Seiko 5 lineup. Alternatively, look around the used market or try to hunt for deals when they come up. Massdrop always has watches for sale so it's worth a shot there. There's also /r/Watchexchange to buy watches from other redditors. You can't do much with $100 but if you try something good will usually come along.

Sure. The Japanese are kings of value at that price point, and you'll have a fair share of selections from a few brands, types of movement (automatic/mechanicals, quartz, UHF quartz, solar quartz, etc.) and styles (diver, field, pilot, chrono, etc.) all good for day-to-day wear.

A good place to start is look through listings from Seiko, Orient, Citizen, and Casio's Edifice line.

A few examples:

Seiko SNZG13 - automatic field/military style

Orient Defender - automatic field style - also comes in blue

Seiko SNZF17(black) / SNZF15(blue/pepsi bezel) - automatic diver style

Seiko SNZH55/53/57 - automatic black, blue, and black/gold diver style

Various Seiko chronographs on bracelets - quartz movements

Orient Mako II and Ray II - automatic diver style watches with an upgraded movement over the Seiko automatics

Various Casio Edifice chronographs on bracelets - quartz movements

There's a lot more not limited to these brands as well - I'm sure other people can recommend you something nice. I've excluded models not on a bracelet - but if you change your mind you can also look through Citizen and Bulova's offerings.

Here's the current buying guide on $0-$250 watches.

If you really like the MVMT, just buy it, but do so knowing what you're actually getting. The particular model you linked has a chronograph but doesn't even have markings on the subdials, so the chronograph is kinda pointless - how can you tell which dial is which?

u/west90403 · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

I recently bought this Seiko Sea Urchin. Since I can't afford a Rolex Submariner, this will do.

u/Sir-Mustache · 2 pointsr/CopOrNot

What do you think about the Seiko 5? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001IBF15Y/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_nEyFxb92R1Q98 really solid watch and keeps time great, just doesn't stay wound that long. It won't be a problem if you wear it everyday.

u/nickbass95 · 2 pointsr/Watches

Well, with that in mind, check out this, this, and this. You could probably put a green bezel diver together for less than 175 if you look around at used SKX007s. If functionality isn't important, the Sea Urchin runs around $130 (or a hair more with Prime 2 day shipping), couple that with the last bezel and you'd be at a little over $150.

Yobokies also has some green bezels. If you hunt around his site I'm sure you can find more.

For about the same price, I'd rather have a Seiko or Orient. I don't know much about watches, but I get the sense that Invicta has a somewhat negative reputation among those who do (i.e., the folks on /r/watches).

u/JesseW625 · 2 pointsr/Watches

I recently went to a Rolex AD and I just love the look of the Submariner. I don't have enough money to get one atm, but I found this Seiko that looks very similar, so I bought it for about $140 on Amazon. I'm very happy that I bought it, the build quality feels great and it looks amazing. People are definitely right when they say that pictures don't do this watch a justice (my phone's camera doesn't help) because in person it is beautiful. I've had my SNZG15 for a while now, and I have no doubt that this Sea Urchin will serve me well.

u/dymogeek · 2 pointsr/Watches

You could also look at something like this Seiko or the Casio Edifice. They're a little thinner than the Flyback (10mm vs 12mm) and in the same price range.

u/ethanzh · 2 pointsr/Watches

I went with this one, it was on sale for $138 and just couldn't pass it up. I feel you, saving might have been better but I think the 5 is worth it.

how about a SNZH55. Comes on a bracelet but it can be dressed down on a nice brown leather strap like this for a younger look

u/TheBoble · 2 pointsr/Watches

Hi all. I'm looking into purchasing a new watch with a budget of about $250. I want to get something a little dressier, as most of what I have tends to be more "sport" looking.

I understand Seiko fits some of these requirements, but I just don't love how they look. I was considering this https://www.amazon.com/Citizen-Eco-Drive-Quartz-Stainless-Leather/dp/B079995GSP
It is somewhat between sport and dress, and I love the silver face.

If possible, I'd like something solar powered. I have big wrists so anything less than 40mm looks tiny on my arm.

Thanks!

I bought this watch after looking through the Buying Guide thread. Someone mentioned the SEIKO 5 SNZH55 and in that comment the Fifty Five fathoms mod was mentioned. Intrigued, I looked it up and the original watch by Blancpain and was blown away. This is the second watch in my collection (My first being a Tissot Visodate), and I love this very much.

I'm very new to watches but spend waaaay too much time on this sub. I am no where near delicate enough to mod a watch on my own, so I bought this one modded off of eBay.

I've ordered a Brady Strap with Gold stitching to replace the original band with. Loving this watch so far.

u/wshields · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

This is probably the wrong sub for this. Try /r/watches. It's also a really large topic.

You can spend as much or as little on watches as you want. /r/watches has some recommendations for all budgets.

Some examples:

  • Bulova budget dress watch
  • Very frugal Timex Weekender as a more casual watch
  • Citizen Eco-Drive as more of a sports watch

Sports watches tend to work well casually and in business causal environments and in part explains the popularity of grails such as a Rolex Submariner or cheaper versions like an Omega Seamaster or Speedmaster.

I'd highly advise you to do some research and figure out what exactly you want and how much you really want to spend here.

Personally I'd stay away from the Android wearables and similar but YMMV. On /r/watches you'll likely find many traditionalists who feel the same way. In some ways the desire to even have a watch partways makes you a traditionalist.
u/Orgcore · 2 pointsr/promos

The best outfit to go with a pair of Golden Fox Chukkas. We'll start from the ground up.

Socks: Chukkas for me are a great boot to wear in the spring/summer/fall. Nice and light, less insulation than a typical winter boot. One of my favorite parts about the summer is baseball, so a pair of socks like this should be a given.

Pants: Again, let's keep it nice and light. A pair of J. Crew 484 chinos in Navy sounds like a good plan since they match the chukkas in formality and I absolutely love the classic combination of a navy and tan.

Shirt: I've always been a huge fan of chambrays, especially in red. Again, fits in well with the summery vibe.

Accessories: Gotta go with the classic Timex Weekender. The nylon strap on these just look too good, and the watch doesn't even break the bank either. As for a belt, I'd go with a DIY belt with matching leather to the Golden Fox chukka for a personal touch.

EDIT: I wanted to enter the other contest because I am a goofball. I'll expect my commission checks every two weeks when these become Amazon best sellers.

I think my next one will be the SKA581 w/ a brown strap, and then I want a IWC portuguese homage. Either this or this (opinions please!)

Links and descriptions for my current collection:

Top left. My first watch. The black strap is cheap that came with it. I use this black NATO or the james bond grey one (on the nautica)

Top middle. Newest item to the collection, was a graduation present for myself. Added the strap. I also have a red white blue one for holidays.

Bottom Left. The famous timex weekender. Want to know a secret? I hate it. Too loud, and I just don't like how it looks. But it always ranks in the most bang for its buck under $50 so I bought it.

Bottom Middle. Christmas present. Still deciding.

Bottom Right. DW alternative I found on Cultural Dispatch's "time on a budget" blog. Goes well with any strap.

u/veroz · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

And you can buy a leather strap separately for it (which I did).

u/matsky · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

I own one, and it's the gateway drug to watch collecting. It's a good, cheap, starter watch - but you'll probably end up getting something more expensive if you really like it.

Pros: it's a good quality, good looking, dirt-cheap (for $30 on Amazon, you can't go wrong.) "basic" field watch, NATO straps are cheap and come in dozens of colours/patterns, the quartz movement is extremely accurate, the battery life is good (haven't changed mine and I've had it for a year), the mineral crystal won't scratch easy so it's a good beater, and if you press the crown the face glows green for night reading (their "indiglo" feature).

Cons: it's simple, there are no complications like date/day, it is loud, it only has a water resistance of 3 ATM (so just splashes), and (I could be wrong) but I don't think it has spring pins on the lugs so you're stuck with NATO straps. Also, if you get right into your watches, you might want a mechanical over a quartz (even though they're more of a hassle, they're just somehow cooler - the Seiko 5s mentioned are automatics). Personally, I don't love the polished case either - I prefer a more subtle brushed steel look. If you do get one, be aware you can get them with a white or black face. The watch is 38mil in diameter, too, which is about the smallest you can get for a men's watch - so be aware if you have a big wrist it might look small.

This is a great alternative if you want a mechanical watch, but it's a little more expensive - but still great value.

I love the fact that for the amount of money that Marty supposedly has, he wears a $30 Timex Weekender watch. It actually says a lot about his character - he's not in it for the money, he's in it cause he cares so deeply for his brother. Check out the watch here:

I'm gonna just throw a bunch of stuff here, maybe one of these will be what you're looking for:

For the Quartz, I recommend something kinda fun, but still minimalist like you mentioned.

Elliot Havok a newer brand, but I hear good things. I looked at their return policy, you can return it unused if you don't like the looks of it. If I were looking for a quartz watch, this would be at the top of my list (I have way too many watches at the moment)

Breda makes
a nice quartz. I've seen one on person. They are not super slick, but also very reasonably priced. Again, return it if you're not loving it. But, no date function.

Sasqwatch again, no date function, but a nice sub-$100 watch.

Nixon makes a ton of watches. These are what people call "fashion watches" but still, tons of styles.

Again, no date, but Kimono you cannot beat the quality/price ratio.

[Timex Expedition](Timex Unisex T2N651 Weekender Olive Nylon Slip-Thru Strap Watch https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004VR9HP2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_5v0JzbTJHHK0Q) you can knock this thing around and it'll keep going.

Skagen makes a great watch.

OK, tapped out on quartz. Give me time to type out a couple of affordable automatic options.

u/quartz174 · 2 pointsr/Watches

A lot of people seem to praise the Timex Weekender. But it honestly kind of poor in quality, is there something I'm not seeing?

u/poepower · 2 pointsr/frugalmalefashion

I got this one with a black strap. And they tossed in a navy blue strap with a lighter blue stripe down the middle. http://www.amazon.com/Timex-T2N651KW-Weekender-Olive-Through/dp/B004VR9HP2/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1341258651&sr=8-3&keywords=weekender

u/LuigiBoccherini · 2 pointsr/Watches

For that money, just get something like this Timex and put something like this Stainless on it. You're at $54ish dollars on the wrist and you can put the $60 you saved into a watch fund.

u/Daisukiyaki · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

The Timex Weekender is a NATO strap watch, meaning the strap can be easily switched. This leads to more versatility in color, but you can always just stick a leather NATO on it. The Seiko SNK809 is a mechanical NATO option. You can buy NATO straps from places like www.cheapestnatostraps.com (built by an MFA member IIRC). Both of those watches are casual and about as budget as you can get.

u/6ilchrist · 2 pointsr/Watches

I picked up a Timex Weekender at Target one day as I was strolling though, it's sort of my go-to watch that I dont worry about. I think it was $30. And the straps you can get for it are cool :)

u/JarrettP · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

A Timex Weekender is casual enough for everyday, inexpensive too.

Also, the Nato strap can be changed very easily, allowing for multiple styles without having to buy a second watch.

u/itgetsharder · 2 pointsr/femalefashionadvice

I don't know what a hipster style watch means, can you give examples?
I'm a huge fan or Timex watches because I really like the clean aesthetic and size. They make a Thru Nylon Strap watch that might protect you from your nickel allergy. Although, I have a very mild nickel allergy and I wear their leather strapped watches without trouble.
Watch facts: Ladies watches have smaller faces than the unisex watches. Most watch bands are interchangeable.

u/snorting_dandelions · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

I have to pay about 46€ for the very same watch on Amazon.de. That's about $60 or 300%. Come fucking on

u/pizzasplease · 2 pointsr/Watches

The strap is Olive colored, the face is off white. I'm actually wearing it right now I love it. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B004VR9HP2?pc_redir=1411972920&robot_redir=1

Timex Weekender, green strap. They just removed the logo for the show it looks like. Same numbers, etc.

u/TheDarkRabbit · 2 pointsr/Archery

Sorry - Yes. It is a Timex Weekender.

u/spottie_ottie · 2 pointsr/Watches

If you like the timex, go for it. However most people seem to think that particular model is overpriced. Have you looked this?

The style of watch is called 'field'. Hamilton makes several that are of high quality.

u/stevieie · 2 pointsr/frugalmalefashion

I'm gonna second the Timex Weekender with a leather strap. I think it's pretty plain/simple looking and it's definitely not that large or expensive. Here's a picture that I just took of it, maybe this is what you're looking for.

u/bh012 · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

I think that the reason you are not getting feedback is because your post isn't as concise as it could be; additionally, most people like to look at a picture or two and then reply with a short thought. Remove extraneous information next time (your measurements / details on clothes) and perhaps elaborate on what your job is.

That being said, I'm guessing you've already made your way through the sidebar so I'll try not to rehash too much information.

My thoughts (mostly personal preference/opinion, take it as you like):

  1. If possible, don't let your undershirt show (try a white v-neck).
  2. The pumas look kind of goofy on their own (in my opinion) and aren't appropriate for business casual attire. The boat shoes are fine but still probably not business casual.
  3. For sneakers and other shoes refer to the sidebar's shoe guide. As a beginner, you may be interested in the oft-recommended Clarks Desert Boot in beeswax (which is dressier than the Pumas but still casual-- I still don't know if this will fit into your dress code) or a full-blown dress shoe.
  4. I personally dislike both the shirts you posted. I'm not fond of the contrasting button style and I think black button-downs are universally ugly; simple is better. I also prefer this style of [button-up shirts] (http://www.primermagazine.com/2012/spend/the-essential-ocbd-oxford-cloth-button-down-with-10-picks-to-start) and I would wear them either tucked or untucked. Brands to look for are Uniqlo (slim fit) and Brooks Brothers (extra slim fit) and I like white, light blue, and pink as colors.
  5. I have no experience with TailorStore so I have no comment there but if you want to stick with them I'd get the button down collar, remove the plaid trim, and get mother of pearl buttons.
  6. You should definitely get grey wool trousers instead of another pair of black pants.
  7. I say no to suspenders, just get a belt that matches your shoes.
  8. The Timex Weekender is a good watch, I like this color scheme.

    How I'd spend $500:

  • JCPenney Stafford Wingtip Shoe
  • A sneaker for casual wear outside of work (I like J. Crew x Nike Killshots 2) or Clarks Desert Boot
  • Uniqlo Slim OCBD in white, pink, light blue
  • Grey wool trousers
  • Navy chinos
  • Timex Weekender
  • V-neck undershirts (maybe from Uniqlo?)

If you're interested in practical things, consider a watch, or a quality belt (wallets are good too but you already said that haha)

u/chrispscott · 2 pointsr/frugalmalefashion

Yeah usually the most expensive piece is the watch. If you get a versatile piece like one of the different Seiko 5 models or a Timex Weekender instead of what I use you can usually knock at least $100 off the price of the outfit.

Honestly it depends on your attire and your straps. I feel like the white face would look nicer with some other nato straps I have. Though, the cream does add that old watch sort of look to it, kind of vintage ish and I love that type of look. They're not too distinct from each other. Like wearing this on my wrist I wouldn't know it was cream unless I held a flashlight up to it and compared it to a white shirt.

This is the exact cream face I bought, I don't recommend buying this exact one. The whole item shows a leather strap that seems to look nice (which is the whole reason I got this one) but it's actually synthetic leather and it feels very thin and cheap. After wear and tear of only just a month or less actually the strap tends to stretch and you'll have to move it a hole tighter. It does look nice the instant you get it, but it does not last. Buy another weekender with a different strap because that one is just bad quality overall. Ill take some pictures in a little bit with the strap on a black face I use it on occasionally.

u/Mehknic · 2 pointsr/Watches

It's an older model. Generally, Orient USA is a good place to buy these (straight from them...always use a coupon code), but they're out of stock on silver/white and silver/black V1 models.

A reseller on Amazon has V1 models, but they're kinda overpriced.

u/reportingfordooty · 2 pointsr/Watches

Could you stretch your budget to $180? (link). This Seagull might appeal to you (under 150).

u/OneLegAtATime · 2 pointsr/TheVeneration

The orient is <$200 on amazon.

The model's called the Bambino, just a month or two ago they came out with a different face for it as well. Probaby not the best price for it but here it is for reference. Trying to emulate an even older watch feel from the 20's-30's I think.

And yes, I do know that "affordable" is a relative term, haha. the original Omega devilles go for $300-500, then add $100-200 for servicing. Personally, $200 is really my upper limit for a watch at this point.

u/consumeradvocacy · 2 pointsr/Watches

Sturhling's are generally poor quality with reliability problems. This Orient Bambino is much higher quality and features an in house automatic movement

u/xenox2 · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

For $200 you can get a much better watch than that.

The Orient Bambino cost $122 on amazon right now, uses in house mechanical movements and looks so much more expensive than it is.

u/Majorminormajor · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

It's a lot of money for a quartz watch. You're paying a lot of money to have Armani written on your watch. The Orient bambino in black is around the same price, but is mechanical (40mm):

http://www.amazon.com/Orient-ER24004B-Bambino-Automatic-Mechanical/dp/B008VBUZDW

This Citizen is roughly the same look, but is solar, so you won't have to worry about battery changes for a while (37mm):

www.amazon.com/Citizen-BM8240-03E-Eco-Drive-Stainless-Leather/dp/B000EQS1D8/

Seiko has a similar solar (37mm): www.amazon.com/Seiko-SNE049-Stainless-Steel-Solar/dp/B004400ZCK/

42mm can be big, depending on your build/wrist, though big is 'in' right now.

You say you like technology, I have a Citizen Nighthawk which I like. It's big, and the dial can be a bit busy: http://www.jomashop.com/citizen-bj7000-52e.html

That's perfectly fine - besides, there is no need to put out a lot on a watch before you know what you like. Here are some suggestions, if they aren't your style, let me know what you prefer.

Timex Ironman is the one I've been wearing literally since Middle School. I've had to replace it 2 or 3 times, but that was always because I lost the previous one. They come in a few different models (male/female, and different amount of laps it can store in the memory). http://www.amazon.com/Timex-T5E901-Ironman-Traditional-30-Lap/dp/B000AYTYLW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1397361875&sr=8-1&keywords=timex+iron

u/Seven65 · 2 pointsr/EDC

I am also an Electrician. At work I wear a Timex Ironman core 30 lap when working. It has a rubber strap, I feel it would snap before my wrist did and all exposed pieces are non-conductive.

The Ronstan Clear Start is THE sailing watch. I have raced dinghies for a long time, and that is the way to go. I don't like big watches, so I wear a Timex Ironman. No real reason to get anything fancier than a waterproof watch with the countdown timer. The Clear Start can sync the timer, though, which is great.

u/kibitzor · 2 pointsr/running

Consider bumping it up to $30 and getting one of the highest rated running watches on amazon.com.

You'll have it for at least 2 years, consider it worth the $30.

u/reachskm100 · 2 pointsr/Watches

Is this what you are looking for?

u/90daysandout · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

My first impression is that it reminds me of fishing watches - and this is largely because of that suede brown band with a visible logo.

The entire watch has a very rugged look and the face itself is not as classic and simplistic as the weekender or easy-reader. So if you're going for a more day-to-day casual watch I'd definitely recommend the other two.

As for choosing between the weekender and easy-reader: the easy-reader is 3mm smaller in diameter and has a less cluttered face than the weekender. I'd say this version with the brown leather strap is a good bet.

Hope that helps.

>a good first everyday watch that would be fine in situations such as interviews

Formal and semi-formal situations? I'd go with a simple dress watch.

For budget and great looking, consider a Timex Easy Reader, $30, it's a white dial watch with leather strap, great for what you're going for.

What's your budget? Around the hundreds, I'd go with an Orient Bambino, it goes for around $120-$150. It's very classic, minimalist, has a dome crystal, and is not very distracting. It's an automatic too. There's 4 versions of the Bambino. I personally like version 1, and version 2 with blue hands.

A little higher, Timex has been doing some great reissues. The Timex Marlin, $200, is pretty understated but eye catching. It's a manual wind movement watch with a call back design. This will probably be my next watch.

Lastly, Tissot has some great automatic's. The Tissot Visodate, $400, is a fantastic watch for the price.

All these watches can be had for much cheaper if you're open to looking at the gray market (watch exchange forums, ebay, etc.). I hope this helps, at the very least to show what's out there. Cheers and best wishes!

u/Inertiatic · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

You say brown leather strap and white face. What do you have in mind for the rest of the watch? Preference on colour/material of the watch body itself? Were you wanting any sort of calendar functionality?

The Timex Easy Reader tends to be fairly popular around here. You might want to take a look at that.

u/CARTERsauce · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

See I bought a pair on sale at Urban (for like $40!) that were a 27 or 28, I can't remember, as a goal pair, but I had them for a while and I couldn't get them past my upper thighs so I ended up giving them to a girl, she moved away, and I know I'd fit into them now man, sucks.

A Timex is about $35 (Easy Reader, Weekender, Leather Weekender) unless you meant that until you can afford a quality watch, you're not gonna bother with one at all, which isn't really a bad idea.

u/DirtyDanil · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

For timex I think I like their simple plain watches better.

However, in almost all of their watches, because they're cheap what you get is a bit of a stiff plain band.

well - do you want durable or a great watch or a little of both?

for 200 dollars I cannot recommend a Seiko Monster highly enough. Nice looking, well built and well respected in the watch world.

There is a reason why it has 267 reviews and is a average 4.9 out of 5. it's a great great watch. it comes in black also. Yellow as well - but that one is rare and collectors have grabbed it.

If you want a Chronograph, then I agree 100% - this is a great choice. It's also available in a Black Bezel

There is also an older version of their non-solar Quartz diver with a Chronograph called the SNAE25 (I don't know that I would buy this one on Amazon as it doesn't come with warranty).

If you can give up the Chronograph, then you have the Monster and Classic Divers to look at.

Good luck!

I know it's not the style you want, but the Seiko Orange Monster immediately came to mind.

u/Nizzler · 2 pointsr/Watches

I'm not a fan of quartzs and/or chronos, so I'd say that if these are your only 2 options, then go for the Orient - although I think the double crowns look a bit odd.

Although this one's not a 'nice' watch, it's an automatic, it can take a beating, looks cool, has incredible lume, screw-down crown, uni-directional bezel, and is a must-have for any new watch collector on a tight budget:

Seiko Black Monster

Seiko Orange Monster

Lastly, don't overlook Raymond Weil for a nice watch in the $500 price range - Amazon is full of them.

Heck you could get both and still have a couple bucks left over.

What kind of price are you looking for? Amazon typically has brand new ones on bracelet for around $200. The monster holds its value better than anything not made by Rolex, so you're going to have a tough time sniping a deal on eBay without taking any chances.

Have you tried something like the [G-Shock GW-M5610] (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B001414NT8/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1478081235&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=gw-m5610&dpPl=1&dpID=41OwvOZMQhL&ref=plSrch)? I have small wrists (about 6.25 inches) and it fits me just fine. Obviously it also depends on your wrist shape, but it might be worth checking out.

I'd always recommend buying a solid automatic watch. Watches like MK, DW, fossil, etc, are cheaply made with Chinese parts and usually run on quartz and are meant to be replaced when they start to break down. Investing in an automatic can really ensure you have a great watch that will last.

Like mentioned, the skx007 is a great watch and will last you a lifetime. You can also mod this watch quite easily as well and the movement will last forever. Many watch enthusiasts love Seiko, myself included (have 3 will probably get more). Seiko 5's are also solid entry-level watches and many come in around the $100 mark depending on model: https://www.amazon.com/Seiko-SNK789-Automatic-Stainless-Steel/dp/B0018N0HL0/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=seiko+5&qid=1565104496&s=gateway&sr=8-4

The Orient Bambino is also a great entry-level automatic dress watch with a few different dial combos: https://www.amazon.com/Orient-Bambino-Japanese-Automatic-Stainless/dp/B01N45HWRM

For a cheaper diver, the Orient Ray/Mako lines are good as well: https://www.amazon.com/Orient-FAA02004B9-Display-Japanese-Automatic/dp/B01AK5TQXG/ref=sr_1_2?crid=K6K5EI9K3HA7&keywords=orient+mako+2&qid=1565104421&s=gateway&sprefix=orient+mako%2Caps%2C187&sr=8-2

If you can spend more you can look at Hamilton's Khaki line or Jazzmaster, Seiko Sumo or Seiko Sarb033, Sinn Watches, Chris Ward, Squale, Junker's Bauhaus or Max bill if you like the Daniel Wellington Style.

You can even look at used/vintage and get a nice Omega Seamaster for ~$500

I love the SNK789, I wear it every day. I have about 6 different straps for it, I usually wear a NATO strap like this or this, unless I am dressing up a little more formal with a shirt and tie and nice leather shoes. In that case, I will use either a brown leather strap or a black one to match my shoes and belt.

I guess they're back up now. These in white, black, or blue dial were selling for $64 from Nov last year to Feb. The prices always change cause its Amazon, but they will go down again eventually. Also the SNK80* series also frequently sells for $64, although none at the moment. You're about a week late for that one.

I'd recommend taking a look at the Seiko 5 range. At their price range, you can pick one up and still have cash for a handful of straps. Here's one for example, but there's plenty to choose from.

If you like to two-tone designs, maybe one like this:

It's way too dressy for regular wear, and as someone already pointed out, it's a Movado clone, which is going to look cheap and make you look cheap. For an every day wear, look for something with a white face, a limited number of complications (like day and date), a silver or stainless steel case, and a stainless steel bracelet or black leather strap. Something like this.

That'll be a pretty tight price point for something "cool". As far as sizing, look in the watch description for the case size. 40mm or smaller will work fine on a small wrist. From there, I'd go to Amazon and search Men's Timex Watch -- that's one of two companies who make decent watches in the $20 range. The other is Casio but they tend to make bigger watchs that might be too large for your wrist.

Something like https://www.amazon.com/Timex%C2%AE-Reader-Brown-Leather-T20041/dp/B000B55AEA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1473330695&sr=8-1&keywords=men%27s+timex+watch will be a classy looking every day option and it's well sized for your wrist. If you want a digital readout, you could go with something like https://www.amazon.com/Timex-T78677-Classic-Gold-Tone-Expansion/dp/B000SQM5PE/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1473330695&sr=8-11&keywords=men%27s+timex+watch for a retro look, or something like https://www.amazon.com/Timex-T5E901-Ironman-Watch-Black/dp/B000AYTYLW/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1473330695&sr=8-4&keywords=men%27s+timex+watch for more features.

Buy an digital timex if you're going to wear a watch under $1000 and want to look like a "big boy". Many CEOs / finance executives still wear their digital Timex from their trading days, which has led digital watches to become a popular look in high finance and other wealthy circles.

I know you want mechanical, but I'd really recommend a simple, cheap quartz instead. I traveled there recently with my Ironman, and it let me set two arbitrary time zones, was water- and shock-resistant, and the Indiglo light was a godsend in the overnight flights. Plus it didn't stand out so much that I was an easy target for theft (at times we walked through the seedier parts of Mumbai).

u/mrorbitman · 1 pointr/frugalmalefashion

I've found that the easy reader is just as stylish, significantly quieter, and displays the date and day of the week at the exact same price as the weekender (~$30). Not sure why it's not more popular around here.

Both have indiglo and are water resistant too, and are water resistant up to 30m. I have accidentally taken my easy reader swimming before and it continues to tick (quietly!)

u/Richmond92 · 1 pointr/Watches

Almost a year ago I made a post about how “working man’s” watches need to be recognized too. I posted the super beat up watch I wore to rock climb and it got a surprising amount of love. The next guy up to the task is nothing but a Timex Easy Reader with a black nylon NATO strap, and has been nothing short of reliable, functional, and even fashionable when necessary. Every feature on the watch, even down to the strap does not go without a use.

When in the midst of time-sensitive and sometimes dangerous activities like rock climbing, checking the time needs to be as fluid and easy as possible. The watch itself also needs to be inexpensive, lightweight, and durable. You may think this is a tall order, but surprisingly, Timex’s lower end watches fit the bill. This is why I chose the Weekender last time, and it’s why the Easy Reader has proved itself an amazing next choice. The giant digits prove its namesake and the bright red second hand provides nothing but reading clarity. The lightweight case and durable nylon strap allow me to climb with confidence and efficiency, as if the watch weren’t even there. The day/date feature is the cherry on top, making this thing a virutal wrist-calendar without sacrificing simplicity and legibility.

Oftentimes when I am out on a climbing trip I like to find a place to swim as well. Naturally, Timexes are freaking cockroaches, and the “WR 30M” label need fool no-one. This thing is straight up waterproof up to at least ten feet. And when camping, I make frequent use of the indiglo feature, as I hammock camp and there is nothing more frustrating than trying to reach for your phone in pitch darkness while stuffed in an Eno.

I’ve even worn the watch “out on the town” and have still gotten compliments on its understated and universally applicable design characteristics. In terms of fashion, this watch is a chameleon. It compliments anything I wear it with.

If you are an outdoorsman/woman but don’t like the gaudier sports watch options marketed to the outdoors, trust in the basics. They’ll do the job just as well without making you look like there’s a Squirtle strapped to your wrist.

This watch-face is called "Das Slick" and was made available by a developer named "jdixl" on the Pebble app store. Its online link is available here. The developer did a great job of all the graphics, animations, and proportions of the different pieces. Unfortunately I have not been able to find any contact info for jdixl, but hope I can still perhaps find a watch that was his inspiration for this face.

As Pebble products are in a tricky state of being these days, I have been looking for a different watch to switch to. This watch-face was my favourite on my pebble watch, so finding something close or identical would be really awesome.

If you don't think you know any relevant info... I would still appreciate your advice. My taste is more towards slim and simple watches, I like Timex Weekender watches, and recently ordered one with an even slimmer profile called Timex Easy Reader Day-Date. So far the Timex Easy Reader is the closest I've found to the Das Slick face. Perhaps you can give me some suggestions or ideas based on that info & the picture in this post.

Thanks for your advice and time guys.

u/JacobPalmer · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

I was in need of a brown leather-strapped watch (and by need, I mean I just wanted one pretty bad) so did some reading up on this one. It's a Timex Easy Reader that I purchased here. I considered the Timex Weekender after reading a GQ article on it, but I wanted a leather strapped watch so I went with this.

I'm very happy with it, especially for the price. It is really clean and didn't expect this sort of quality from Timex.

u/chickennoodlegoop · 1 pointr/Watches

Thanks! I like the SNK809 and SNKE063 and they definitely seem like an upgrade to my black Weekender that I'd definitely be interested in, but I'm ideally looking for an upgrade to my white Easy Reader… any ideas?

u/swatch_crotch · 1 pointr/Watches

No problem. Here's one more idea, before I head out. It's the Timex Easy Reader. Analog so easy to set, great contrasting hands, however it's a little bit smaller at 35mm. Just another one to consider.

u/whitepangolin · 1 pointr/frugalmalefashion

This or this is what you want.

u/ContinentalRektfast · 1 pointr/AskMen

you might like some of the Timex watches, these two are my favorite

i've gotten a lot of compliments on the 2nd one (which i own). the only problem i find with it is the the band is kinda wonky, but it's nothing i'd worry about. for the first few weeks i thought it was a lot more fragile than it was, but i found that the trick was to just have it 1 notch less than too tight, so that it fit on but it had room to move as well.

the band problem is remedied by the 1st one, but imo the band looks sexier on the 2nd.

timex is really one of my favorite watch companies because they have a lot of watches with the aesthetic i like.

if you want, i can post a picture of what the watch looks like on my wrist. i have very small wrists too and the fact that i found one that i love surprised me.

u/bluegarfield · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

Any of one, two, three, four for a casual daily watch, like with jeans/shorts and tee? I will wear them to work as well, but dress code is casual so yeah. I have really small wrist (about 45mm width) and metal bracelet feel massive and heavy on my wrist, so I guess have to do with leather or nylon. Not sure if the nylon strap look too childish or look out of place with the rest of the outfit though :(

u/Killrabbit · 1 pointr/Watches

u/notaneggspert · 1 pointr/Watches

Right now this $10 Casio is the only slightly dressy watch I have.

I like it but the crystal (plastic?) has gotten more and more scratched from general wear. I don't think I want a nylon band since the watch will get wet frequently if I wear it while working.

I don't have a lot of money to spend but would like to get a slightly nicer analog watch with a date function for under $100. I plan to use this watch while bartending so it will be splashed in triple sinks for a few hours every day. But I might just wear the Casio I have now while working since it's already slightly dickerd and only $10.

So far I've found these two through Amazon:

$21 Tonnier

$29 Timex Easy Reader

If someone had a gun to my head I'd buy the Timex but I'm not in a rush to buy and need to do more research.

I'll link a few more to get an idea of the style I'm looking for. Definitely looking for a smaller watch that won't get in the way or snagged on stuff.

$25 SONGDU

$22 Biden

$20 Curren

$24 VAVC

Didn't do much research into those last couple but just linking the style I'm looking for and I'll add some more on. I like high contrast black/white faces but I'm also cool with red/brown/blue accents but the more color neutral the better.

u/Arcs_Of_A_Jar · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

Some basic characteristics of the most everyday watch you can get: no flashiness, silver-colored metal only if there's any metal, simplicity in design, lightweight, and any kind of band except black leather.

Some of MFA's most often mentioned basics: The Timex Weekender, the Timex Easy Reader, and Citizen Eco Drive(you would probably want to replace the black watch band with a brown leather one).

You're not limited to these, however. Some personal favorites are the Orient Sky, the Orient Union, Skagen, and Seiko.

Don't take my examples as a firm limitation, however, there's literally hundreds of good watches out there.

Orbitkey 2.0. Basically a wallet for your keys, really cool and convenient. Leather, rubber, or fabric variants are available, I personally Like the all black leather version.

Casio watch. They’re cheap, minimal and durable.
this digital and this analogue are my personal favourites.

A Leather Valet tray. These are simple stylish leather trays that you or your husband can dump your edc stuff into. The best ones I’ve come across are from Etsy.

Travel wallet. Like this. I’m not sure if this exact product is available in the US, but you get the gist. They keep all the important stuff in one place when you go travelling, passport, cards money, boarding passes etc.

BLF A6 torch this package comes with a battery included. I also found a discount code ‘8a955d’ which I think takes about $5 off. This thing is very bright, durable, and has a pretty small size(it’s not for the pocket, rather for a bag) it is only sold from banggood.com, so it’s manufactured and shipped from China so expect 2-3 weeks shipping. but it is designed from American flashlight enthusiasts and is sure a steal for the price. heres a charger for the battery.

Finally a nice steel water bottle. This is what I have in the 750ml, it’s cheap and simple, again this one is from China, but just any steel water bottle would be fine.

Anyway I hope this helps, I kinda just listed things that I’d like in hope your husband does too hehe. I think they’re generally things that you can’t go wrong with.

Im from the uk so some of the links I supplied might not be relevant to you in the US(I assume), but they’re there so you know what product I’m talking about :)

Agreed. Nothing against the Mako, but a cheap Seiko 5 with a simple dial and a leather strap would be worlds better for a 'dress' setup. Inexpensive too, especially if one doesn't have to dress up that often. It could easily be worn in other settings too.

u/watyousay · 1 pointr/Watches

It sounds like you're looking for what's broadly called a 'dress' watch. Slim, simple dial, white face, black or dark brown leather strap.

With a $100 budget I recommend a Seiko 5, possibly the SNK789, SNKK87 or SNKL41 with a new 22mm band.

Should be able to squeak in under $100 and will have something that looks like these.

I don't know if you're set on a leather strap, but if you're not, this is an option.

Thanks for your help.

I've taken the plunge but have gone for a SNK289 instead: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0018N0HL0?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00.

Went for this strap by Hirsch http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B009NK6OHG?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00

I've got a black face Skagen with black leather strap coming for Christmas which I intend to use for work (black leather shoes/black leather belt.)http://www.amazon.co.uk/Skagen-Analogue-Leather-SKW6104-Quartz/dp/B00O13IJ82/ref=sr_1_12?s=watch&ie=UTF8&qid=1450886945&sr=1-12&keywords=black

Went for the SNK289 as it has a white face and the brown leather strap will go well with my smart casual wear which tends to be brown leather shoes, brown leather belt.

Nice to have some variety.

There is also one listed on Amazon for roughly the same price.

u/kw01sg · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

The yellow mark on the face slightly turns me off too. Will probably wait a while for some cheap deals for the weekender. Do you have reviews or opinions about the Timex Weekender Fairfield Watch ?

u/JDub226 · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

I don't have a Fairfield, but I do have a Weekender Chronograph. You could get the 37mm Fairfield if you're worried about the size of the 41mm.

u/Turbosack · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

So I've been wearing one of those digital Casio watches for awhile now and I'm looking to change it up a bit. Everyone seems to recommend the Timex weekender as a good cheap watch, so I was thinking of going with that. I just want to know exactly which face/band I should go with.

I'm changing up my wardrobe for this summer, and it's going to consist mostly of chino shorts in various colors, tshirts, and some light button-ups I got from H&M with boat shoes or basic sandals (Rainbow). I was thinking of going for something preppy-ish like this watch face with this band. I would just get the one that comes with that band, but the watch face looks weirdly formal and out of place to me. Also getting the two parts separately actually ends up cheaper.

Any thoughts? Does that combo work? Would it be alright with the olive band?

u/PhantomLead · 1 pointr/Watches

The Timex Weekender Chrono looks somewhat similar, albeit slightly more crowded.

u/TheNotoriousJTS · 1 pointr/Watches

Hello, I've been browsing through all the Timex chronograph watches on Amazon, the ones in the 60-80 dollar range and I really dig them. Are there other brands with sweet chronograph watches, in the same price range, to compare them to? Thanks.

Example: https://www.amazon.com/Timex-TWG012800QM-Analog-Quartz-Weekender/dp/B01GI8SU5O/ref=pd_sbs_241_2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=5YBE3K8E6MBJMKRPEY07

u/n_17 · 1 pointr/Watches

I plan on getting my first watch, a Timex Weekender Chronograph.

On the Timex website it's $82, however on amazon it's going for $60. Being new to watches I'm wondering if there's any danger in buying from Amazon, such as inferior components or chance of a fake, that would make spending the extra $22 to get it from the official website justifiable.

Also if anyone has any suggestions for watches with a Chronograph and <$100 that is similar to the weekender my decision isn't set in stone and I would appreciate the suggestion.

u/Nothingcreativeatm · 1 pointr/Watches

If you want something simple, classy, and inexpensive, I'm a fan of a Timex Weekender. They usually come with a cloth strap, but this one is listed with a leather one, or you can buy a leather one for it and a tool to switch it out with and still be at half the cost of the ones you linked.

u/mynameistheodb · 1 pointr/funhaus

Yeah, the Weekender is the one I ended up getting. I really like it, it fulfills the two tasks I require of a watch: 1) telling time and 2) not looking terrible. It's cheap enough (not $15 like I originally said, I paid $35) that you don't really even need to get it repaired, you could just buy another one. If it has sentimental value for you though, you do you.

u/INmySTRATEjaket · 1 pointr/nfl

A cheap, reliable, do it all watch is timex. The straps are easily replaceable so you can buy straps to customize a little too. R/watches hails rolex, timex and seiko as the ideal 3 brands. Timex being the cheapest, rolex being the most expensive obviously.

Edit: This is the particular watch I'm talking about.

It's reliable, light, easy to read, crazy comfortable and keeps time better than almost anything else i own and it's cheap. Plus the leather strap matches everything.

I work in a pizza place and the cornmeal has destroyed far "nicer" watches in short time. This thing has lasted through daily use for a year now though.

I ordered this Timex Weekender with a leather strap yesterday after about a year of having a black Weekender. The Weekender is more casual than a Fairfield I think but you can't beat it for $33 (and Amazon Prime free shipping).

u/SirLaxer · 1 pointr/Watches

Under $100, with that particular style, I'd recommend the Timex Weekender. You can throw on a NATO strap if you can't find a Weekender with a band you particularly like, but if you just search for "Timex" in men's watches you may find a similar model you like.

Hello everyone! I would like to get the community's recommendation for a classic steel case, white dial, brown leather strap dress watch and a diver's watch. My current collection of watches include - Seiko SNN241, Seiko SNA695, Seiko Kinetic SKA553, Casio G-Shock Rangeman GW-9400-1CR and a Timex Weekender Fairfield.
I am looking for a classic brown leather strap white dial dress watch. I looked around and finally deicded on this Orient Bambino Version 2, but it is not available anywhere! Out of stock at all retailers. What would you recommend in this style which can be an alternative to the Bambino V2 which is in the price range $200-$250? I am also looking for a Diver's watch in the $150 to $250 range. The choices in this category are quite a lot - Seiko SKX Collection, Seiko Monster SRP Collection, the Orient Ray, Ray II, Mako, Mako USA II. It's overwhelming. With the Diver's watch I would like your recommendation specific to quality and technology of the watch. This way I will be able to prioritize my choice based on quality first and then the aesthetics. Thank you!

After scouring the buying guides (thank you for those!), I've decided that I want to purchase a Seiko watch for my SO, but I'm stuck between these three options. I want to get whichever of these options is the best value. The first one is a solar watch, but one of the reviews as well as the lack of description made me wary that it might not be legitimate. I bought a smart watch U8 its called( to celebrate losing 2 stone). Then last month, I decided to buy a proper watch for my birthday.

I missed out on a second hand, Seiko 5, on Ebay. Showed my friend, & he bought me a brand new one from Amazon. SNK789
Loved it, but since I missed out on ebay, they kept showing other Seiko 5's from India. So I bought another, just to wear daily, to keep the new one for special occasions, like the weekend.
Found this community, & I have been looking at other watches on Amazon & ebay. Damn! I keep buying watches now. I just bought a Casio Diver's watch

I got an old display cabinet from a charity shop, I volunteer at, to display all my old film cameras. But now, it has more watches than cameras.

If you're only looking at field watch seiko 5s you're not looking hard enough

SNK789, for example

White is a wee bit formal though, and also maybe hard to go with other outfits.

How about black?

Hey, maybe you're feeling silly?

And it's not only the watch that determines the style of the set. Maybe you should think about perlons or bracelets for casual, or leather?

TL;DR: I'm looking for a recommended replacement for my Seiko SNK789. Preferred budget is $70; max budget is $120.

I need to replace my Seiko SNK789, which I bought after getting advice on this sub. I bought it on Amazon for about $68, and it came with a 2-year warranty serviced by Asurion. In early April, the watch started losing a few minutes a day, so I made a claim against the warranty. Asurion has taken forever—they claim that parts are on backorder—and they've offered to give me the purchase price, but they won't give me enough to buy the same watch, which is now $99.

So I'm wondering where to go from here. I could pay the extra $30 and get the same watch, but that seems like a lost opportunity to try something new. I'm not prepared to fork over $149 for the Orient Bambino. But I like the look of the Orient Symphony.

What does r/Watches think?

u/ledit0ut · 1 pointr/Watches

I am looking for a recommendation on a new watch to get. I normally wear a Moto 360 smart watch to class, but have several other watches that I wear. If I'm not wearing my smart watch I usually wear a Timex Weekender or a Bulova. I am looking to spend $150 or less on something that I can wear casually or dress up. I have seen many people here talking about the Seiko 5, and I particularly like the SNZF17 model found here:

https://www.amazon.com/Seiko-Black-Stainless-Automatic-SNZF17/dp/B001IBF15Y/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1485202767&sr=8-1&keywords=seiko+dial+5

However I am not aware of the difference between that one and this one:

https://www.amazon.com/Seiko-SNZF17-Automatic-Stainless-Steel-Bracelet/dp/B006ITF0YS/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1485203438&sr=8-2&keywords=seiko+dial+5+snzf17

Even though the latter is $50 more. I like this specific model because it reminds me of the Rolex Submariner, but i can actually afford it. I also like the Invicta 8926OB found here

https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_c_1_9?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=invicta+8926ob&sprefix=invicta+8%2Caps%2C188&crid=30BB7AXHLO9AV&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Ainvicta+8926ob

But I have heard poor reviews of Invicta watches, even though I have heard good things about that specific model. I guess I would like someone better versed in wtches to point me in the right direction for what I am looking for.

$180 can definitely get you something decent. Where would you wear it? Are we talking an office setting, something casual with t-shirt and jeans? Something that can get beaten up outdoors or you can rock at the gym?

Lots of ideas out there, but it's like saying "What kind of shoes should I buy for $180?" -- really depends on what you're wearing them for!

A few popular ones:

The Casio "Duro". Known for it's classic design, can be worn on all kind of straps, and Casio is a well-respected manufacturer of quality affordable watches. It's also water resistant to 200m, which means you can take it literally anywhere and it'll operate like a champ.

If you want an upgraded version of the Casio, this Seiko is well-loved in the watch community and, if you spend a few dollars to get it serviced every 5 years or so at a local watch shop, will easily last you the rest of your life. Classic divers watch with a handsome metal band, and will pair well with any outfit short of a black-tie event. It doesn't take a battery either, because it's automatic!

Finally, if you don't care about water resistance and want something that will pair with any kind of "everyday" activities, consider the Braun. It's a great design because it's not flashy or too fancy, but will quietly just WORK with whatever you're wearing: suit, t-shirt, date night, bar night, whatever. Comes in black too.

For a $100 quartz, I would go with a Casio. You can get one with a chrono and a slide rule, for about $100.

You can get something a little less busy, like a Casio Edifice, which is solar powered. The good thing about this is you never have to worry about batteries.

And yes, Casio is a reliable brand. Nothing to brag about to watch snobs, but very good bang for the buck.

So I am looking for a watch like this one linked here which is unfortunately out of stock

Citizen Chronograph, 44mm. I'm fine with a black dial or a blue dial. Going for something similar to a Omega Speedmaster but not exactly. I LOVE the aesthetic of the linked watch. Speedmaster's indications are a little thin for my preference.

Preferably 44-45mm. Although I have a small wrist, I like the legibility of a 44mm. Quartz is preferred (sorry, automatics aren't in my price range).

Under $250 Canadian as well if possible, as that's where I currently am.

Any recommendations for a pilot chronograph with a slide rule? The Seiko Flightmaster is a little too small. Is the Casio Edifice EF527D-1AV good? link Look wise I love it. Again would prefer 44mm, but 42mm should be fine too.

As for the solid links I think so, but the end links on this Nighthawk-esque Casio Edifice look stamped.

The only reference I can find to Casio and solid end links is to this watch and its color variants. I would also like to add that is is very size adjustable. I have small wrists @ 6.25" and removed several links to get it to my size, and still have three more I could remove.

Hello gents, I'm trying to decide what watch to buy. My budget has a hard limit of $400 (weird right?) I've read the watch buying guides and there are some divers there that I like but lately this watch has been catching my attention. Does anybody here own a Citizen at4010-50e? Any reviews? Can I switch out the straps for nato straps or even leather ones? Also, any recommendation on good divers?

Thanks guys

Watches like Seiko's SKX007, SKX013 or SNZH57 are much better quality watches, and would be great for you because they have a very healthy modding community. You can buy all of the bezel inserts you want to use with a SXK007/SNZH57/SKX013 and swap them yourself. You can even change everything to make it look just like a blancpain fifty fathoms.

Hi,

Is it normal to wear a diver as a non diver? (I work in ict/trading/finance).
This watch got my interest: amazon link

I was specifically interest in this steel bracelet black dial type of watch. This was the other watch I consider in case it's considered a bit odd to weir a diver. amazon link

They may not make it anymore, closest thing I could find was this, Timex Weekender

u/theguruhimself · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

I'm planning on buying my first watch, primarily for casual, everyday use. Since I don't want anything too fancy or expensive, I've landed on the Timex Weekender, but I'm still deciding on which color to choose.

I am relatively skinny with a dark-ish brown complexion (I'm Indian). Currently, I have the Olive and Blue/Gray Stripe on my mind, but I'm open to any suggestions. Which color should I choose? Let me know if you have any questions!

u/Coltonious_Parkins · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

Does the Timex Weekender go on sale very often on Amazon? I'd like to buy one, but I would hate to miss out on saving a few bucks.

Also, which strap would you say is the more versatile, Olive or Blue and Gray?

Why everybody, I am looking to buy a everyday watch for under $100. I’m really just looking for a watch that will go with everything and I can always wear. So far the ones I’m considering in no particular order

Timex Weekender

This is nice because it’s cheap, and I could swap straps. However a lot of people complained of how loud it ticks, and it’s not water resistant

Timex Weekender Chronograph

This was my initial choice, but I have since second guessed myself and now am leaning elsewhere. I feel like the case is too thick, and it’s not too water resistant.

Invicta Pro Diver

I’m iffy on the metal band. I do enjoy the actual look of this, just not sure if it’s too classy.

Seiko 5 Automatic

This is the watch that’s in first right now. I would definitely purchase a leather strap for it off top, but some people reported it didn’t keep time well.

That’s my list. Overall, I’m just really looking for advice. I’m not very watch savvy, and would appreciate help by some of you pros. Let me know why these watches are good or bad, and offer some insight. I appreciate it!

I have a weekender, weekender Chrono and expedition Chrono.

The weekender is nice, except for the audible ticking. I prefer my expedition Chrono. (Which I should do a post of soon.)

I really like the styling of yours, especially the black dial, and white numbers. I may trade out my weekender for your setup. I prefer darker dial watches for my field watches.

u/IBeMadToo · 1 pointr/asktrp

Personally:

  • A nice pair of chino's in black, navy, or stone
  • A pair of nice chino shorts that sit above the knee
  • Plain coloured tee's with no prints - I have black, white, navy, charcoal
  • A nice leather belt
  • A few pairs of shoes - Personally, I have Clarks, a pair of leather woven boat looking shoes like this, and some sneakers (eg. Nike Roshes) in white or black.

I feel like those are essentials, anything after that is a bonus. You could add extras in like a simple watch (eg. Timex Weekender; straps are customizable), a suit/business attire, jackets such as a bomber jacket, or whatever else you think you need. It all comes down to what styles you are into tho!

Good place to go for inspiration is r/malefashionadvice or r/frugalmalegashion if you have a strict budget. They have essentials guides for ya over there.

I wear an analogue watch, and have for about 15 years. I wore Fossil watches for the first 5 or so, and have worn the one I wear now for the last ~10 years. It's easier to tell about what time it is at a glance with an analogue watch. And really, that's how we think about and understand time, with approximations.

If you are like me, when you look at a digital watch and it says 7:43 pm, your brain will translate that to "about 7:45pm" before it uses the information. So, seeing 7:43pm vs 7:45pm doesn't make a difference in what it means to me. In either case, I know I have about 15 minutes until it's 8 o'clock.

For this reason, I find an analogue watch to be more intuitive/easier to use.

However, if they often need to know precise/exact times (i.e., they need to know that it's 7:43pm and knowing "about 7:45pm" isn't good enough), a digital watch might be a better option. I can't really come up with a scenario where this would be important (and one wouldn't have the time to just look more closely at an analogue watch), but I'm sure someone's job involves this sort of thing.

The thing that I like most about the watch that I've worn for the last decade is that it's low/no maintanence. It's one of the Citizen Eco-Drive watches that runs off of solar power. So in the ~10 years, the only service it has needed is replacing one of the spring pins (and it only needed that because I was a doofus and broke it while removing a link).

But really, you should just ask him. INTJs aren't all the same in their preferences for things. They're similar in that they come up with systems. A watch is a device that they'd be expected to wear all the time, i.e. it would become part of their system. In a bygone age, it would be a welcome part of any person's system (saving them the time of finding a public clock somewhere). But nowadays, everyone is carrying a phone around with them which they can use to tell time, and so they don't see the need to wear a watch, and may even consider it a burden.

TL;DR: INTJs come up with systems, but we don't all come up with the same systems. The only way to know what watch would best fit into your INTJs system (or if a watch would fit into their system at all) would be to talk to them about it.

EDIT: If you really want to get them a watch, maybe consider getting them something like a Timex Weekender or Timex Expedition Scout. They're no-frills, all practical options, and are low enough cost that they can be considered a safe "experiment" to see how he likes having a watch as part of his system. From there, you can find out what he likes and doesn't like, and us that knowledge to get him something more expensive for his birthday or something down the line.

u/Thestigsfatcousin · 1 pointr/Watches

I think you best option is to either buy him a nice G-shock, or buy something like

This or This and just accept that he'll need it replaced every so often. The weekender looks kind of like the Bertucci you like, and I can personally vouch for the Casio Chronograph.

All that said, I would personally just buy a G-shock which will last him for a very long time. It is a little bit bulky, but it's going to be the toughest one to break. Also, if he doesn't genuinely want to wear the watch, he won't. He'll just put it on in the morning to make you happy and set it in his car as soon as he gets to work.

Despite not really liking watches, after a lot of pestering from friends and family I've decided to buy a Timex Weekender, but I have some questions regarding the watch face and strap. For reference, the attire I would most likely be wearing with this watch would be your basic bastard /r/MFA uniform (ocbd, dark wash slim fit jeans, etc)

  1. I can't remember if I read this here or just overheard it somewhere, but I seem to recall a lot of people recommending you replace the base strap on the Weekender and use something else? If so, can I get some recommendations here? The cheaper the better, I'm not looking to spend too much on this.

  2. If we take a look at this Amazon listing for Weekenders, which watch face would be considered the most neutral or versatile. If you can, let me know if any of these watches work with their included straps, or if I'm better off replacing it as asked in question 1.

  3. What's my best bet in terms of finding a good deal on these? Should I try walking into various stores (walmarts, etc) and see if they're on sale? Or should I just keep watching the Amazon listing and pray it goes on sale there? Budget is a little tight at the moment, and I do have an event coming up within the next couple of months that the watch would be useful for.

    Thanks in advance!

orient, seiko and casio make solid products. I don't own a watch less $120 so I can't speak to your price range. But if I were you I would save a little more and get a watch I really want rather than settle. If you aren't buying a quarts and I were you I would probably save for this

u/Hahahahahahai · 1 pointr/frugalmalefashion

Orient's white dial Bambino is $113, they're usually $140-$160 in other colors.

The Orient Mako and Ray and Seiko SKX007 are great 200m divers, while the Seiko SNZF and SNZH are great faux-divers with 100m water resistance and attractive designs.

u/English_American · 1 pointr/Watches

Funny you mention that I was just checking that one out. I did find one I really like.

This Orient Bambino. I've seen nothing but praise for them. I might settle on this one, but I'm going to do some more reading.

And like people brought up in that Armani thread, I would like to own a watch from a real watch company. I have a Seiko from my parents for my confirmation back in, what, 2007? But I want a more simple watch and one that looks more to my taste.

u/FWS02 · 1 pointr/frugalmalefashion

It's also worth noting that (IMHO) Seiko, Citizen and Orient ALL seem to offer up very sterile pictures of their products to resellers. There are watches I've been totally turned off to online, but love in person. Do Google image searches for watches you're on the fence about to see them in a different light. For example, take a look at the pictures of an Orient Bambino on Amazon (fairly bland) compared to the beautiful pictures of the same piece on Worn & Wound. Like night and day!

Just something to keep in mind!

For the average person, a quartz movement is the best option. It is typically more convenient than automatic, and almost always more accurate. Some of the best quartz watches in your price range come out of Bulova and Citizen, and I might throw Casio in there too. I own and love my Bulova Precisionist, which has a souped up quartz movement and was under $200.

If you know or expect that your boyfriend would be interested in a mechanical movement, then the first place you should look is Seiko (this is mine) or Orient (the Ray and the Bambino are popular). They offer very high quality pieces for reasonable prices. Bulova also makes some mechanical pieces.

EDIT: You mentioned that he wants a stainless steel band. I expect what he's talking about is a "diver," which often comes on a bracelet (think James Bond's Omega Seamaster, or the ubiquitous Rolex Submariner). If that's the case, I would look hard at Seiko divers like the SKX007, 009, 173, etc. and Orient divers like the Ray or Mako. These are all well within your given price range, but for a bit extra you can look at the Steinhart Ocean.

u/Thnewkid · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

I would reccomend an orient bambino for slightly more formal wear. Their ine of divers would also look god for daiy wear.
http://www.amazon.com/Orient-ER24004B-Bambino-Automatic-Mechanical/dp/B008VBUZDW

Seiko 200m Divers are also a great every day choice for a more casual watch. http://www.amazon.com/Seiko-SKX009K2-Divers-Automatic-Watch/dp/B000OP1M6M/ref=sr_1_4?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1427746893&sr=1-4&keywords=seiko+dive

If you don't like any of these, I reccommend looking around online. Wornandwound.com has a good database of watch reveiws, some of which fit your budget and you can always check /r/watches .

u/Mediasurvivor · 0 pointsr/Watches

Seiko makes a version of the Seiko 5 that looks very similar and is an automatic, so you don't have to worry about battery life.

u/Fuiste · 0 pointsr/Watches

This Invicta diver works great on the steel band it comes with, and I personally think a weathered brown leather strap would look great too.

It's a pretty clear "homage" to the Rolex submariner, but for the price you're getting a pretty good quality automatic movement in a watch that looks great with anything from jeans + t shirt to business casual.

If you want something more minimal and are willing to ditch the steel bracelet, then this Timex is a great option. I've got one that's still ticking on its original battery after about 10 years. They're bone simple bulletproof watches that look good with any outfit.

u/UziSauce · 0 pointsr/malefashionadvice

the boots are definitely great!

you should look at getting a timex weekender or similar. 32 bucks or so. can't beat that. it'll go with a lot and you can change the NATO strap to match your outfit.

regarding the cardigan, it looks like the shoulder seems fall a little outside the shoulder. the only reason i think you could go down one size. doesn't look bad at all... just nitpicking, i suppose.

ninja edit: i'd also get your jeans one size longer on your next purchase... that'll allow you to roll the cuff (IMO, looks great on a longer jean) and you can always have them hemmed if you don't like the length.

"Nice" is relative, of course, but the Orange Monster is pretty highly regarded by watch geeks and runs $250.

Never went to basic, but after PT there was time to shower/bathroom/getdressed/etc at Field Training. I would say yes, also if you really need to go, you can go to the latrine. Probably just need to ask an MTI (using the correct verbage) and bring a wingman/buddy.

I guess the last PT test is the only one that matters, I wouldn't really stress out that much with MTI getting after you while at PT... Insert excellence in all we do statement here. After a little while you get used to MTI yelling at you, just have to remind yourself what the big picture is (why are they yelling), and if you can show MTI's you have your head screwed on straight you will be good to go.

I don't care about restaurants. We ate at Chick-fil-A and Red Robin (I think) in the airport (no town passes for ROTC kids).

This is like the unofficial watch of the military. Even the dental students who went to COT have them. By far the most common watch I've seen (and used). It can light up, and it can beep (although you probably want to turn off the beep when you are just pressing buttons). Just don't set an alarm to go off early.

*Take every I said about Basic with a grain of salt. Just a punk ROTC grad with no prior enlisted time.
