I actually use the XCM Cross battle Adapter which I bought 4 years ago for $40. Absolutely no lag of any kind and works perfectly with my Xbox 360 wired.

I would say that you might have a chance of being able to use it if you can find a way to keep it cool. I had a friend that this happened to and he ended up using his minifridge as a means of being able to play it. I've also heard that frozen towels are a favorite method as well.

look at the label on your supply for the watt rating. it will be 203w, 175w, or 150w. if it is 150w, then any of three will work. if it is 175w, then 203w and 175w supplies will work. if it is 203w, then you need to find another 203w supply.

just hit up craigslist or eBay and find any working supply. I see RROD 360s for sale on craigslist in my area quite cheap, $20-$30, and typically they include working power supplies. if you are in the USA, here is a 203w for $22 delivered on eBay.

this one on amazon looks fine too, but it is $30 and I think you need prime for free shipping on it. I did not read the reviews, but this says it is 203w, so it's pretty easy to check that. the 203w ends will work with any old style Xbox 360, regardless of what supply they originally came with (203w, 175w, 150w). If they send you a supply with a different watt-rating, then yeah, that could be a problem, if your 360 needs 203w.

It wouldn't be balanced for people playing FPS games with a controller. You would basically need a mouse to compete.

That connection is only capable of standard definition TV ( 480i )

At the bare minimum connect via a component cable, it will have the white and red audio cables, a yellow composite cable, and a set of blue, green and red component video cables. Using the component video connection from this cable will allow you use either 720p or 1080i.

I connect one of our Xboxes to our TV with component video and it does 1080i just fine. Our other Xbox is on my desk and connects to my monitor via the Xbox VGA cable and is running at the LCD monitor's native resolution of 1680x1050 and looks very good.

There's actually a device that acts as a hub that allows you to use Xbox 360 wired controllers on the PS3. I personally think both controllers have their pros and cons but I was thinking about getting one of these adapters for sports games on my PS3.

It is stupidly easy. I just went through with it recently. Went from an old original xbox to the Gears3 xbox. All you need is this:

Pop out your old harddrive connect it to this, plug it into the usb of the new one boot up and it will walk you through it. Just make sure that you select all the things you want to take over (e.g. saved game data) took only a couple of minutes and I was up and running.

I bought some Monoprice component cables from Amazon. They have connectors for multiple consoles, and PS2 is one of them. I haven't had any issues with video quality.

I installed an after market fan into my friends old xbox because he complained about how loud it was. The new fan had a switch that would make it low or high speed whenever needed. Whenever he would use the low setting on the after market fan and play a game, the console would end up overheat and shut down with the red rings till it cooled off enough to be turned on again.

Not really much you can do, maybe buy some gaming headphones and crank them up while playing.

I'm not aware of a consumer-level capture card that can capture audio over HDMI and a secondary input simultaneously. My recommendation is to switch the cable coming out of your Xbox360 from HDMI to HD Component, then plug the audio from the Xbox360 into a small mixer along with your mic. Then plug the output of the mixer and the HD video from the Xbox into a capture card like this one.

Now you can play the game and talk into the mic, using the mixer to control the levels of each. The whole shebang will then be recorded by your capture device.

Before I can help, here is the names of the connectors you have. The Blue one is called VGA, and the Cream one is called DVI. If this is too much for you, just get a computer screen that has at least 2 HDMI ports on it or a DVI and HDMI port on it with a built in speaker. As of right now I believe that the PS4 only can be display out of HDMI so you will have to use a screen with HDMI in it. I will be able to better help in two hours from now, at work.

I hooked my xbox to my computer monitor, just a simple samsung monitor, using thus cable, and it works pretty good. Not as good as hdmi, but for the convenience factor it works.

Unless I'm missing something, you should be able to just plug your headset into the LCD Monitor and let it pass the sound through. (assuming you mean 3.5mm not 35mm.)


The Xbox360 Elite should have a built in TOSLINK ( optical) port on the back. You shouldn't need the adapter (it was for the older Xboxs that didn't have the built-in Optical port). ((EDIT- This is true only of the NEW Elite SLIM Model - if you don't have the slim model you DO want the adapter. - Note that the "official" adapter goes for around $50 new))

Thanks for the response. Honestly, the only reason I pulled the trigger on buying these items is because I recently lost the breakaway cable that connects my wired 360 controller to the PC and since I've had it for so many years, figured it was time to try the newer [xbox one] controller.

Very good point actually... I have NO intention on ever buying xbox one (if anything, PS4) so I really wouldn't be utilizing the hardware at all, however, I did buy Steam Link for living room gaming so that is really my only rationale here... On that note, I could go the PS4 route so I'd have a 2nd controller if I ever got the console, but I don't really like their controller design.

If so, I would not recommend it if you are looking for the best quality video! Because resolution outputs are limited. I'll explain later more on this.
In my experience if you are looking for the best video quality and don't want to spend a lot of money on an OSSC or XRGB mini to de-interlace 480i. I would just buy component cables and connect those straight to your HDTV or HD CRT if you have it.
I've tested two types of component cables on my widescreen HD CRT. Cheap price ones from amazon and the Sony ps3 component cables. Right off the bat you can tell the build quality difference. The Sony PS3 component cables feel heavy duty and shielded vs the amazon Monoprice which feel lighter and possibly not shielded but I may be wrong on that.
As far as image quality goes they both look the same! I was hoping the Sony PS3 component cables would look better but they don't. This may be different on an HDTV, so keep that in mind. I need to test the difference.

On top of this, one thing I have noticed is that the colors look so much better on a HD CRT vs an HDTV when the PS2 is connected through component.
If you want to take it a step further I would buy a memory card loaded with FreeMCboot and download GSM.elf. This will allow you force games to run at 480p and there is a definite difference between 480i and 480p. Also you can play at higher resolutions like 720p and 1080i. Since you are connecting to a HDTV you can also force games to run at true widescreen with ps2rdmod.elf
At this point this is where the PS2 to HDMI converter has its limitations. You can't use GSM with it because it will not support anything higher than 480i, 576i, 480p. To be honest I don't think it has the best transcoder chipset to properly convert component to hdmi. I remember it looking blurry on my HDTV at 480i. I never tested it with games running at 480p. Also it has problems when you force games to run at true widescreen.

If your TV does indeed do 1024x768 then you should be fine with it.

You should be fine at standard-defintion resolutions (480 vertical pixels) using the yellow (composite) cable that comes with the console, but a component cable should give a sharper picture even on standard-definition (depending on your TV and the quality of your eyesight) and will take full advantage of the resolution of a 1024x768 telly.

  If you're buying a new telly soon, then maybe see if you can get away with the yellow composite cable for a while, because any new TV will have an HDMI cable, and that will give a better picture (depending the TV and your eyesight) than component.   I'm not aware of any gameplay differences between the two consoles. Someone said in another post that the E3 demo units were 360s, so that was what the early development must have been done on, so the title must be better and more "native" to that console. Try this. You should be able to find the washers and bolts at any hardware store, but the thermal paste might be harder to find. Before Fallout New Vegas came out my 360 RROD'd, and I fixed it using this guide. I haven't had any problems since. I also highly recommend getting on of these.

I asked my friend about this setup (he has a similar setup of his own) and said to get this cable instead. He said that the cheaper cables may get the job done but they end up having issues with ghosting, whereas if you spring the $36 for the Microsoft one you shouldn't have any issues.

If so you should be fine I think. I didn't have a slim, but I replaced my old Elite with a new one and bought the HD transfer cable which hooks directly up to the HD you want to transfer from, and plugs into the USB ports on the xbox you want to transfer to.

This would let you do HD out of the xbox as component. However the projector is only XGA (1024x768) so it will be scaled down to fit.

The "noise" is visible regardless of which source is in use.
Having now typed all that out - would it be logical to first try replacing that unknown component cable feeding to the BVM with another Amazon Basics component cable (I have a spare)? Or are those trash?

For FPS games I use a 360 controller with my PS3 (via one of these). I do have the triggers on the two Dualshocks I use for other games (Uncharted etc.).

As you may have noticed, the 360 and the 360S use entirely different shaped HDDs. Sucks for anyone who's upgrading an existing console.

Luckily, MS offers such gamers the Xbox 360 Hard Drive Transfer Cable. This lets you copy the entire contents of an existing 360 HDD to the new 360S HDD. I do not know if it wipes the HDD on the receiving end, but this is the cable you're looking for.

I would actually buy a 16:9 display, not a 16:10 one. Otherwise you'll have to live with a letterbox (you can't actually change the resolution of the games).

Also, at least with the old non-slim model (I'm not sure about the slim model), if you want audio, you probably need an "audio dongle adapter", because you probably won't be able to use the audio signal from HDMI (at least if you're using regular analog speakers).

It's supposed to work like this, comm audio comes out of the controller, while game audio comes from the console's AV cable.

If your Xbox has the direct HDMI output, then you need this adapter to give the headset something to plug into. Your headset should have include a 2xRCA to 3.5mm adapter cable. You'd plug the red and white (RCA) plugs into the adapter I just linked, then plug the green 3.5mm stereo jack into the other end of the adapter cable.

Do you have component cables, hdmi or are you using RCA to hookup your Xbox?

Edit: If your using HDMI does your tv have a 3.5mm out (headphone jack)? That would be the easiest option, just plug whatever into there and be done.

You could also use a HDMI audio extractor but most will need an amp between it and your headphones.

Was the console one of the older "phat" models? Looks like this . If so, and provided is has that kind of hump, you can buy an Xbox 360 Data Transfer Cable . You are correct, there is certainly a large sports games market, as well as single player games like the FF series, but even those folks mostly got their 360s with Halo or CoD or BF3 and I bet the large majority of their online players play an FPS. Third-party hardware enabling mouse support for FPS titles isn't exactly new; accessories like this have existed for quite awhile already. They never really caught on due to the high cost (which this new device will likely suffer from as well due to the $90 price tag) and the fact that it still doesn't allow perfect mouse movement for FPS due to the way that the console games are coded.

I'm guessing you're using a HDMI/DVI converter, which of course won't carry sound.

I'm afraid that, unlike with the PS3, there is no way to output audio through a different cable than you're outputting video (unless you count the optical audio out, which doesn't exist on an HDMI cable).

The good news? You can use this cable with your monitor. Don't be fooled by the HDMI nonsense; VGA will be just as good as HDMI!

I agree with CybaRJJ here. This is becomming an oddly common issue with Panasonic TVs and 360s. Although I do see Sony having it as well. At this point there really isn't any way to remove it from the blacklist (firmware update has worked for some, but as with all firmware updates... proceed at your own risk).

I would honestly recommend picking up the Component HD cable. I'm certain your 42" supports it and it's 6 bucks on Amazon. You'll get that same HD video, but only stereo audio unless you've got an optical cable to plug into you receiver.

This is the right place, or at least the best place reddit currently has that I know of.

There's no way to cut the video feed out of an HDMI signal by cutting wires or similar. HDMI cables don't have dedicated video wires, the video and audio signals are digtally interleaved across all the signal wires.

However, this cable will probably allow you to disconnect the video signal from the audio signal if your TV supports it. I have a HDMI port on my TV that will accept an analog signal as part of the same port (It's meant for connecting to a PC that can't output an audio signal over the HDMI link).

However, I'm not sure that disconnecting the video signal will be particularly useful to you. I assume you want to avoid LCD burn-in, but does your TV blank the display when it loses a video signal, or does it simply display "Signal not found"? If so, you're just trading one kind of burn-in for another.

Here is the one I use, and it works great (no discernible lag). There are cheaper ones out there that work well apparently. Do a search on Amazon for "cross battle adapter".
