As long as you're in the Xbox One neighborhood, I also recommend looking at:

• Sunset Overdrive: Launch trailer. Well-respected developer with a couple decades of stuff under their belts. You can get this one for ten bucks on Amazon.
  
  
• Forza Horizon 2: E3 trailer. I generally don't like racing games, but this one is slick, easy to get into, and is set in an open-world environment that I just like driving around in. Horizon 3 is coming out in a few months. Free demo downloadable here. If you like it, Amazon has it on sale for $35. If you have a GCU account with Best Buy, they will price match Amazon, where it's currently marked down to $35, and bring the price down to $28. This only works with physical copies. XB1 also has Forza 5 and 6, which are more traditional racing games.
  
  
• Then there's the Master Chief Collection, which lets you play Halo 1 through 4 (but not Reach). The first two games have been remastered. It's pretty cool. Multiplayer was pretty buggy at first, and by the time it got fixed, most people had moved on to other things. But the single-player campaigns are a fun ride. Launch trailer.
  
  I personally feel that the PS4 has a better selection of games overall, but if you're ready to try an Xbox, there are some worthy reasons to do so. The console also has support for HBO Now, while the PS4 does not. You can buy the Xbox One S next month, which is a revised version of the console, but it costs $400. There are cheaper versions coming (less storage) but not until December. You you can get a bundle with the regular version now.

I play the game almost daily, I think it's fun. The movement mechanics and weapons have a satisfying learning curve.

Competitive warmup is your go-to if you're on PC and want to play with a party greater than you and one other member. You can queue 5 people. We're getting ranked crossplay in the coming months.

>Is the Season Pass necessary?

Unless you host private matches and want to play on a dedicated server or solo queue developer playlist, no. The season pass is terrible value. If you want to play dev list (play new maps early with 2x XP and 20% cr boost) then I reccomend you find someone who has the season pass to host the lobby. You can queue up and play the new maps without having to own the $50 paperweight.

The game should be free to play with a $40-50 season pass that provides extra XP and CR payouts. As it stands, the season pass is basically a ripoff. If you're playing a 10man private match, find someone with season pass and have them host to select maps that are outside of the defaults.

$80 is highway fucking robbery for this game. The cost/benefit model in comparison to other games on PC. $30 is a good maximum to buy this game.

Servers run at 60/30 tick, meaning your client sends 60 updates/sec and server sends 30 updates/sec, which is baffling to me. If you play CS GO and know that 64 tick is fucking awful in comparison to 128tick, you're in for a good time on this 60/30 cheapo bullshit.

None of which might fit great now that the rubber on your controller is actually falling apart. Might require some hot glue or something else if you want them to stay in place.

A lot of people eventually switch to xbox style sticks, not just because the material doesn't fall apart but because it's actually a much better design. These compared to the DS4 sticks is night and day in terms of control and your thumb not sliding all over the place.

Not that hard to install. Hardest thing about taking the controller apart is getting the shell separated for the first time and the fact that the triggers and springs might fall out, so just work on a clean table where you'll be able to find the little springs. Watch videos on how to take it apart.

Only thing to look out for OP is to get one of the xbox one controllers that supports bluetooth, the original ones did not, meaning you would have to use a wire. So double check!

My original statement was "They'll try to pull you in with a discounted base game and then kidnap your wallet with season passes and micro transactions." which basically said that this type of $10 off discount would try to create early adopters that will later get to pay upfront for a game and then have to pay later for its dlc. The base game of Destiny dropped to $25, then $15 and now $5 to get people into it and then have them purchase newer editions. If there were no newer editions they would have to buy each dlc/expansion for a more fuller experience. If they launched at a cheap $25 or $30 it would be a larger base audience that may buy into it; however $10 off is not launching cheap when it has a history with the first game.

I never said bundled old content is the same as a season pass. Destiny basically made a Game of The Year (GOTY) edition with Destiny: The Taken King which included all the previously bundled old content and then AGAIN in Destiny: The Collection when Rise of Iron was released.

These are what I ordered, and they worked great. Unfortunately they run out of stock easily, so timing is key. However, it's a really easy fix. Just pop those suckers off and replace.

Honestly, the mp is the most important part of this game, so I can't see a disparity of this size existing unless people think the mp is at least as good as TF1's.

If people believed TF2 had a better SP (since it has one) but a worse MP I can't see the reviews for TF2 being better this consistently.

Dude, these are the two things you need to get your XP400's working with the Xbox One without the need for using two different headsets:

• Xbox One Stereo headset adapter
  
  
• Turtle Beach PS4 Chat cable for XP400
  
  The PS4 cable is compatible with the Xbox adapter (They use the same 3.5mm CTIA standard jack)

You'll need to add this to your controller if its not one of the latest, It allows you to add pretty much any headphone/earbuds with or without a microphone.

So in terms of sound, you can attach headphones straight into the aux jack on the controller if you have a newer one, or buy a headphone stereo audio adapter if you have an older controller and the headphones/headset plugs into that and gives you both game sound and voice chat.

Monitor wise, get anything with under 5ms response time and you only need 60hz refresh rate as Xbox can only display a maximum of 60 frames per second (fps) so don't listen to anything trying to suggest you need a 144hz monitor as this is just a waste of money for a console, brands like BenQ, Asus, Samsung all make very nice monitors, I'll link a few below, note they will be UK links to Amazon as that's where I'm from.

Note the bottom one, the Samsung, does have speakers, so for this one you can just plug the HDMI in and use the speakers from the monitor, or turn the volume down to nothing and use headphones if you would prefer.

it's this kind of low level hardware, i wouldn't advise you to buy one as the buttons are too small and the gameplay impossible on this. You should take a wireless 8bitdo if you want a themed controller otherwise you can go with any kind of controller you want such as a Afterglow Prismatic Xbox One controller they often are in sale and look way better (it's not wireless thought).

It does require you to take apart your controller, but it's not too difficult. You can look up a video on YouTube about it. I'd order a few just in case you accidentally break one, happened to a friend of mine on his first try.


LB is boop for me but I use LB for air roll/powerslide in rocket league and it takes a beating.

$10 fix, comes with the T8 security screwdriver to remove the 5 screws holding the shell together.

The part is just as good as the OEM, although not the same matte silver.

After using it for a bit, I do think there is some merit to the post about RSI concerns but I'm trying to be mindful of keeping the rig upright to keep the weight on my palms and taking breaks. You can use an XBox One controller (or an Elite one, preferably) on PS4 using a convertor, incidentally. It's really good.

I’ve been using this thing since I have a terrible time with symmetrical sticks. Works wirelessly and since you’re just using one of your Xbox controllers there’s nothing new to get used to. Only downsides are the price (almost as much as a new controller :/ ) and the battery life, but you can charge it while you’re using it and I usually just plug it into a portable power bank. Also installing the damn thing took some tinkering so I’d recommend using a spare xbox controller so you don’t need to unplug and plug in the adapter multiple times. Not sure if the micro usb on the adapter would hold up.

If you’re worried about not having a touch pad there’s a hacky way to mimic it (hold down the View button while using the stick) but honestly it’s never been an issue for me in any of the ps4 games I’ve played. The View button acts like a click of the touchpad and there’s a button on the adapter thing for the Share button.

The adapter usually comes with xbox one compatible headsets. It can also be purchased separately and used with pretty much and headphone with a 3.5mm jack.

Want a 3.5mm audio jack on the controller? That's another £20.

If you look closely at the plug you'll notice there are 4 separate metal contacts (TRRS) instead of 3 (TRS) see this image

That extra contact is for the microphone, smartphones can utilize this as standard, letting you make hands-free calls, but will need an adapter cable to work on separate headphone and mic jacks on a PC (like this)

As for the xbox, depending on which you have there adapters for those too, this for xbox one controllers and a combo of this and this for an xbox 360 controller

As for whether you'd be better off with separate headphone and mic, absolutely, of course you would be, I can't imagine polaroid branded headphones sounding any good at all, yes they are indeed usable for all your intended applications with the adapters I linked but sound quality will be poor, especially mic quality from the tiny thing built into the cable. If that bothers you in any way, then head over to the sticky thread for advice on what to get instead, otherwise those adapters should work fine, even if they come in at just as much, if not more than the headphones cost themselves.

Do you have the Xbox One already? If you buy it brand new, the controller will have the 3.5mm socket already, but for some reason it doesn't like the QC35's and you have to plug it in really, really slowly (it's best to have some audio playing like a title screen of a game so you can hear the music pop in) but if you want to save that trouble here is the Stereo Adaptor and here is the QC25 Android Cable i purchased, i can assure you that it works. and yes the microphone works too.

Any Xbox compatible 3.5mm Jack headset can be used with the official Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter. They are about £16 ($20?) on Amazon (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Official-Xbox-Stereo-Headset-Adapter/dp/B00I41H7US/). This plugs into the rectangular port on the bottom of the controller, and gives you mute, chat / game balance, and volume up / down buttons. It's very simple to use, and gives you full control over the volume balance for game and chat.

You can also get aftermarket pads from PDP, which have a 3.5mm socket for any Xbox compatible headset with a 3.5mm Jack, and they have a special dedicated button by the right thumb stick, which when double tapped, mutes the mic, and when held down, turns the D-Pad into a volume up / down and chat / game balance control.

This is what I use, and it is so easy to adjust game and chat volume on the fly, I'm actually surprised MS don't do something similar - it's such an intuitive way of doing it. One thing though, is that I don't know whether PDP do a wireless pad with this feature, (I'd have to google it) as the ones I've seen on Amazon are wired (as is mine). They are only about £35 / $40 or less though, and the cable means the controller is light, and never runs out of battery! :D

Edit - Had a look and can't find a wireless version, but this is the one I have, and I am very pleased with it, cable is nice and long, and fits securely. It feels a bit different to a regular controller, some things better, some things worse. The home button is much easier to use, but the triggers are flatter. I would suggest the hyper X cloud 2. I have had headsets that are cheaper and headsets that are several hundred dollars more (Astro) and I can assure you the sound quality is on par with more expensive headphones, the comfort is the best in gaming headset, the mic is also really good both in sound and in convenience as it's removable and easy to reposition. also the convenience of having the USB sound card in case you ever want to use it on PC is a nice bonus. Even the packaging is top notch lol.

You will want the headset adaptor for the controller though as it is easier to adjust volume settings (although this can be done in the guide)

I have changed them on both of my DS4 and they are awesome. You can actually get them cheaper if you don't feel like spending $15 on them. Check sites like http://tinydeal.com or http://dx.com

For start, turn off any and all forms of auto-aiming where possible, as it's inconsistent in different games and really only helps if you're very casual and have blocks for hands. Start your aiming sensitivity on a lowish setting, then increase it by a notch every few games until you're at the highest one you can comfortably snipe with.

Also do yourself a favour and get yourself a pair of Xbone analogue stick caps and put them in your DualShock 4. It's very cheap and easy to do, sticks and instructions here:

Say what you will about Microsoft, but they understand gamepad ergonomics far better than Sony do... the reason that the left stick is high on their controllers is because that's a more natural resting position for your thumb that causes less strain when pressing the stick forward for long periods of time, which is what you're doing in most games, most of the time. Getting Xbone caps won't give you that but it will give you the other smart little touches they added.

Concaves: it's harder to pull something than to push it, and pulling something without a proper grip is even harder again. You get a proper grip by applying force perpendicular to the object you're pulling, not sliding parallel against the sides. The convex stick tops that Sony uses ensures that there's always a degree of sliding against it, which is obviously not as effective as getting a proper hold into a concave like you can in the Xbone sticks.

Ledge: there's also a hard "ledge" at the outer edge of the concave that makes sure your finger doesn't slip off the stick, as opposed to the soft bump that allows more slippage on Sony's sticks.

Textured edges: these are there to ensure that you have as much grip as possible while moving he stick up and down, as your thumb doesn't push/pull from directly below or above the stick, but off to the side at an angle. While Sony's sticks have a texture too, the softer blunt bumps found on it will never allow as much grip as the harder sharp texture on MS's sticks.

You're probably thinking these are tiny things that won't make a difference to your aiming, but in terms of ergonomics, those little things all work together to make a pretty big difference. Try the yoga mission in GTA V with both sets of sticks and it'll become very obvious which ones allow a better, more precise grip.

My wife got me the Turtle Beach Stealth 500x. I'm not a super competitive gamer, but the completely wireless 7.1 surround and completely wireless chat is completely worth the price tag. As of right now, it is the only completely wireless setup for game audio and chat (Other options require the chat adapter connected to the controller) Also they have an internal rechargeable battery (which is nice not having to buy batteries or use rechargeable AA) that lasts 15+ hours and recharges in 3 or so.

Hands down the best headset I have ever owned is the turtle beach stealth 500x. They are amazing. 100% wireless, great sound, 3 levels of mic monitoring and tons of other features with presets and things. Ear muffs are kinda stiff for my liking so I removed them and put the cushions from my x41's on. Much softer feel. Battery lasts about 4-5 days when its been fully charged and that playing like 4-5 hours a night on avg. I also use them to watch TV when not playing games they are that great!

After looking up the replacement sticks specifically for the Switch Pro on Amazon, it looks like they share the same design but the skirt size and depth might not work. If they aren’t just right, they’ll come in contact with the rocker or the casing and be useless.

You might be interested in knowing that most analogue pots (the things that the analog joysticks are put onto) are reverse compatible with other analog sticks.

That is to say, if you have a controller you prefer for hand feel, and another you prefer for analogue stick feel, odds are you can buy the analogue joysticks online and swap 'em out. It's like eight screws, and they pop right off.

On this Amazon page, you can see someone replaced the PS4 joysticks with the XBox One joysticks.

My 360 controller's joystick broke, and I replaced with the joystick from a Duke. It works!

Good call! I forgot that model existed. I noticed it has the exact same design as the 500P headset i own for PS4. I'm not very happy with that headset the plastic they use for the hinges are really cheap and crack easily and the headband part just isn't comfortable but that's just my opinion, to be fair I know other people who own the design and have no problems with it so i might just be picky.

I personally like the Afterglow controllers because they're well built, proportioned correctly, and feel good in the hands. Also, the annoying glow effect can be disabled...there's a button on the back side that changes modes from on constantly, flashing /w rumble, or off completely.

I mean there's this thing here But it's nothing like the actual Elite Controller. As a proud (and very cheap) owner of the Elite controller, I'll tell you it's definitely worth that $150.

I didnt spend 300. I bought scuf extended domed sticks ($13) and scuf grips and trigger stops ($25) and installed them on my controller that came with the console. ($0). So $28 for a better preforming controller (In my mind at least). Debating on wether or not to get paddles for around $50 and installing them. $78 for a homemade Scuf is a lot better than 300 IMO.

Personally don't like either. The Elite's thumbsticks are too loose for me, and the paddles are mushy and don't click or provide feedback when you push them. They are also incredibly sensative.

Yes, the SCUF grips are cheap and feel great out of the box. I thought the same thing. Then a few months in, the rubber on one of the thumbsticks felt loose and started to pull away from the metal. Even then, I told myself “no biggie, I’ll just replace it with another thumbstick.” Then another thumbstick went. Suddenly, the grips started to feel like they’d expanded. They had. The rubber had deformed and expanded like a sponge. On top of all that, the SCUF logo pattern had taken on a ton of grime that I’d never gotten on my stock elite grips.

All of that happened within six months. I’m a neat freak and make a legitimate effort to keep my stuff clean. Save yourself the headache of having to replace your grips in six months and just order OEM parts. Anything but SCUF.

I bought these replacement grips and they look exactly like the ones that came with the controller. You just pop off plastic pieces on the controller and snap these replacements on. Still annoying that this happens in the first place, but if you don't want to send your controller in or Microsoft won't help you out, this is an option.

I just had my Elite controller bumper break, the little piece of plastic inside is so tiny its no wonder they break so often.

Dead Cells is a fine example of why it matters.

It's a great game if you have even the most remote interest in Metroidvanias. It runs like shit on the Switch. The crappy framerates of the game significantly impact the gameplay in a game where careful timing and reflexes are required.

They make grip cases for both the Switch and the 3DS that significantly improve their feel. My hands hurt holding either of them outside their cases. For the Switch, I recommend the Satisfye grip although the Skull and Co Gripcase is a close second. For the 3ds, I personally use the Monster Hunter Cross that I've modded with a rubberized grip. This is a pretty expensive option, however, so there are cheaper ones for people who don't want to invest that much.

I disagree. I use a cheap little xbox controller phone clip to hold my phone when I game. The controller connects bluetooth and provides a generally superior experience to gaming with my Switch. My phone has better audio, a better screen, and a more powerful processor. It also has free cloud saves and can connect to the internet without wifi (anbd has a superior wifi antennae).

I’m sure there are a ton for more hardcore gamers than me, but I use the Turtle Beach Stealth 600 and love them. They’re wireless but have a good charge life, charge quickly, very comfortable (I have glasses too) and you just flip the mic up to mute which is super convenient for me compared to old pairs. They’re also much more durable than previous pairs.

You can definitely find better, I’m sure, but they’re def worth checking out for a cheaper price tag. Good luck with whatever you decide!

When you unplug your controllers, do you do it by grabbing the base and pulling it out or do you just tug on the wire so it pops off easily? I used to do this and eventually that messed up the wiring and I could only hear out of it but couldn’t talk.

As far as recommendations go, I think it would be worth it to drop the money on something decent. I personally use the Turtle Beach Stealth 600 and I love it. Have never had any issues with it.

I got it off Amazon. I know this is listed as "discontinued" but that's just because Microsoft doesn't actually have a non-bundle SKU anymore. It was still supposed to be new in box, and as far as I can tell it's all original packaging. Just the game pass and gold trial are missing

What do you consider usable? Because it doesn't actually take much to hit 30fps at 1080p which is what most console games run at. It is expensive to run the latest games at the highest possible settings at high resolutions but if your target is just a "console like experience" it is not true that a PC is more expensive they are very comparable in fact.

Now take out $200 (buy an older GPU/CPU) and you can build a PC that matches the capabilities of a console. Playing games on medium/high (which is what consoles run) at 1080p and 30fps.

Also that PC has room for improvement throughout the years of ownership. It can use an SSD and another 8 gig stick of ram and more HDD storage. Possibly even aftermarket fans to put on the CPU to overclock it.

The ONLY advantage that consoles have over PC is exclusive titles that never get released outside of that particular console. And even that eventually becomes false because it is only a matter of time until every console can be emulated on PC.

Edit: Also you can add $60 to the price of the Xbox because if you want to play multiplayer you need xbox live. So really its $160 more. This also doesn't include the fact that no storefront can even come close to matching the sales during steam summer sales. Let's be super conservative and say you save $30 a year on steam sales for games that you wanted to buy, so that puts us down to $130 more than an Xbox One X while having higher graphical capabilities and also having the benefit of being a PC and not just a console that plays games/streams netflix.

I use the 700 version which is very limited in its difference. These are very nice because they actually pair to your Xbox in the same way that your controller does. They use Windows Sonic which was referenced above and it does a nice job with footsteps. I think with your price point you can't go wrong with these. I will advise that I have a pretty large head and it took some wearing before I adjusted to the feel of these but I don't think someone with a smaller to normal sized head would have the same experience. No matter what you do its important that when you get your gaming headset you go to your settings and change the audio type to the appropriate setting(Sonic, Atmos etc).

Have you owned the Afterglow Controller? I'd be curious how they compare. I just bought this controller and it's so much better than the original xbox one controller. The build quality is amazing, the buttons, bumpers, and triggers all feel far superior to me.

Replacing the sticks also is not soldering, it is replacing the mechanism below it that would. I just opened both kinds of controllers this week and the sticks easily pull off. Literally just turn it upside down and they'll fall off if the faceplate is off.

I think this is pretty interesting considering the difference in marketing budgets between the two games and the fact that PS4 and Xbox One are pretty close in sales in the US. inFAMOUS: Second Son is turning out to be a bigger seller than anyone expected.

Still, it's pretty much a given that Titanfall (Xbox One) still outsold inFAMOUS: Second Son thanks to the bundles that basically gave Titanfall for free and in some places was even discounted by $50. That brings the question as to why didn't Sony bundled inFAMOUS in the US just like they did in Europe, specially with the PS4 still selling so much, that would have boosted the sales of the game significantly.
