I'm going through it too. You're not alone!! I'm here if you need to talk. Hang in there, friend.

I love a good yoga session even though I'm not very good at it. I love going to a trauma sensitive class that my local studio provides. It's such a nice change of pace when things get rough.

My doctor explained to me that sometimes the brain can get "stuck" in a pain loop, long after the original injury has healed. Since it's been 2 years now, this may be the case with you. I read in a book about "mirror therapy" for this. Unfortunately my back pain is centralized so this won't work for me, but it may work for you. How it works:

  1. Get a full length mirror that is not attached to a wall, and have someone hold it for you.

  2. Stand on the side of the mirror, with the mirror held midline to your body, with the half your body that has no pain (your right half) reflecting in the mirror, and the side with the pain (the left half) tucked behind the mirror. You'll be seeing the pain-free side of your body duplicated in the mirror, i.e., two right halves making up a whole.

  3. Now move your right arm around, lift a weight, shrug your shoulders - whatever you might do that would typically set off the pain, except with the side of the body that is pain-free. Watch yourself in the mirror as you do this. You are essentially tricking your brain into thinking that the left side of your body is pain free.

Report back if this actually works for you. I've always been quite curious.

Otherwise, I agree on the yoga and the new mattress suggestions. I also swear by yoga ball therapy - try this one, it comes with a CD showing you what to do -

This is an awesome contest, for many reasons.

This is the item that would help me the most. Not only to get into shape and healthy (which I desperately need), but it would also help with stress with the meditation aspect. Plus, from what I've heard, yoga can be pretty intense. Thankfully, it's a beginner kit, so I'll be able to stick with it.
