Birch wood is light comparing with oak, elm or ash wood which are considered as hard wood and more difficult to work with. Besides, pine tree and fir-tree (spruce tree) have resin or pitch but birch tree is free of it (this is very important if you want to make some hand burned engravings). These wood cutouts are made from dried birch this wood was dried more than one year.
