Notice to collectors! To celebrate 60 years of the legendary Egg armchair designed in 1958 by Danish designer Arne Jacobsen, Fritz Hansen pays homage to this design icon by offering a special edition, limited and numbered (1958 copies). It is a future collector’s item! This brand-new version is dressed with noble, luxurious materials: the full-grain leather shell is matched with a superb 23-carat gold-plated base. The 100% vegetable tanning allows the leather to take on a nice patina as well as offering an exceptional velvety touch. The Egg chair was originally intended to furnish the lobby and reception of the Royal Hotel in Copenhagen.

An opportunity for Arne Jacobsen to put into practice his theories on design integrated into architecture. The Egg chair, contrasting with the exclusively horizontal and vertical lines of the building, was a total success. Very innovative at the time, the “Egg chair” uses a moulded fibreglass shell, combined with padding in cold-hardened polyurethane foam. The covering is then perfectly stretched onto this frame to the ideal shape. For this limited edition, Fritz Hansen has chosen noble materials that improve with time. The covering is a natural full-grain leather, made from very soft hides from the Alps.

The 100% vegetable tanning means the leather takes on a nice patina as well as offering an exceptional velvety touch. The base is in 23-carat gold-plated aluminium: the shine of the gold will soften over time and blend in harmoniously with the patina of the leather. A classic of Scandinavian design, the Egg chair stands out for its welcoming curves and high backrest (H 107 cm) that create a real cocoon in which you feel protected, tucked away out of sight… Thanks to its reclining backrest with adjustment handle, you’ll feel comfortable whatever your build. The Egg chair is an armchair you can pass down from generation to generation: basically, it’s immortal. A timeless design that will continue to stand the test of time. Its vintage style will always be sensational!”
