Miss Appropriation Cushions

Reviewed by

Portuguese postmodernist artist Joao Figueiredo works in acrylic with a strong black palette for maximum impact. Using half-seen fragments of older paintings, the Miss Appropriation cushions juggle modernity with tradition and infuse the whole with humor, playing with the whole concept of art and how we appreciate it. By appropriating these traditional portraits of women of yore and taking something away Figueiredo has created a set of surreal cushions. Digitally printed in England on cotton satin, backed with black cotton and with feather filled pads.
