A.Lakota student oboe reeds provide a much better alternative to the traditional mass produced reeds. A.Lakota student reeds provide much better tone, intonation and response at the same price as reeds available in the music shops. The A.Lakota student oboe reed is designed to be slightly less resistant than the professional reeds. This is done by making the heart slightly thinner than other reeds in the shop. Slightly more cane from the heart and leave the back slightly thicker to compensate for pitch. The result leaves a fine working reed but not quite as refined as the professional oboe reeds. i am currently using a Pfieffer/Mack shape on student oboe reeds. i am constantly testing ideas on my own beginning students to find the best student oboe reeds for those players in their first few years on the instrument.these student oboe reeds work best with students in their first 1-4 years of playing. Student oboe reeds are made over the course of 2-3 days. This is less time than the professional level reeds. i take more cane off the reeds initially, especially in the heart. i spend less time defining and balancing the very tip with the rest of the reed. The windows and spine tend to be less defined as well due to less balancing. These reeds are made from the same high-quality materials as all other A.Lakota reeds, but have a synthetic cork, which allows easier insertion and removal to and from the oboe.
