Vintage Playgoer for the Pre-Broadway engagement of William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, at the Cass Theatre in Detroit, MIchigan starring Olivia de Havilland. This Playgoer is from January 22, 1951, Volume 25, Number 16. The revival would open March 10th, 1951 at the Broadhurst Theatre in New York City and run for a limited engagement of only 49 performances…… The play starred olivia de havilland (in what would be her Broadway debut) and jack hawkins and featured evelyn varden, malcolm keen, james hayter, isobel elsom, douglas watson, gregory morton, archie smith, william smithers, herbert ransom, john McKEE, michael higgins, carl harbord, karl light, buck kartalian, rudy bond, jack fletcher, john perkins, raikin ben-ami, page johnson, robert burr and dorothy patten ….. credits: Book by william shakespeare; Incidental Music composed by david diamond; Sets and Costumes designed by oliver messel; Directed by peter glenville; Produced by dwight deere wiman ….. The 24 page magazine measures 6 1/8″ x 9″ inches and includes full production credits, cast list, synopsis of scenes, bios of each of the leading actors and wonderful vintage advertising but with the exception of the front cover, no cast photos or bios With the exception of minor edge wear, this playbill is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any theatre aficionado or historian. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective, carded sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard The ads in the book are wonderful and frame-worthy. Miss de Havilland’s picture on the front page is lovely.
