I'd say so, yes.
Component 1 is pretty easy, all you need is a good textbook and you're sorted. You may run into trouble with component 2 as you can't solely rely on a textbook for it. My advice would be to get pretty good over summer at programming, it will deffo help with such component if you're self-teaching. As for the programming project, you'll need to find somebody to mark it for you. It's pretty hefty (I think the average page count is 100 or something) and so it might be hard to find a teacher willing to help you with it.
Some resources I highly recommend:
• PG Online Textbook
• CraigNDave YouTube videos
I was considering self-teaching as well, so if you have any more questions just PM me :)
Me too, I just applied!
In that case, start reading about medical ethics. You'll need to have a grasp on key issues like assisted suicide, patient confidentiality, alternative medicine, etc. This book is great (I'm sure you could find a PDF online for free if you looked). You won't need in depth knowledge, but it's good to have a grasp of ethics as it's likely you will be asked at interview.
Read the health and NHS news everyday. Make sure you're aware of the significant happenings in the health world. Also, the history and core values of the NHS are important things to know as well, the Wikipedia page is alright for that. Finally, have a read of the GMC's Good Medical Practice.
This expensive little thing is basically the official AQA course textbook:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Physics-Level-Second-Student-Book/dp/0198351879/
This one seems to be the main book for OCR chemistry now (assuming you're not taking the stupid Salters spec):
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Level-Chemistry-OCR-Student-Book/dp/0198351976/
And this book contains the AS content of your course!: http://www.mediafire.com/view/7b356tq3wbt7ptn
These are pretty expensive books, but if you need a textbook, it's your best option to get the current, official books.
Here are some miscellaneous textbooks you can download for free - but remember they're not designed for your course!
Edexcel AS Physics (new spec, concept led course): http://www.mediafire.com/view/2v3c7lvd5jty0y4
Edexcel AS Physics (new spec, context led course): http://www.mediafire.com/view/3572bx3dojvssx7
A link to that would be great thanks!
Yeah the main book I used is the AQA AS Biology 2nd Edition
If I haven't sent them in a few hours don't worry about prompting me for them, and I will try to send you more whenever I do them. I should be making notes on another big chapter tomorrow, maybe chapter 1. Although I would still say its vital to make even smaller notes as flashcards just as a good way to remember it and revise the day before the exam (My psychology side coming out again)
Yeah they're pretty good. My teacher has gone more in depth on a thing that was just a side hint in the book so might not have everything for AQA.
AQA Physics A Level Year 2 Student Book https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/0198357729/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_r9ztybN3M0W4D
This is the one I'm currently using however I do have the CGP one for both years:
New A-Level Physics: AQA Year 1 & 2 Complete Revision & Practice with Online Edition https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1782943048/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_w-ztybS84ZP9R
And pretty sure this^ one has everything
Balliol College provide a reading list
As do Cambridge University
I definitely recommend (As do Balliol) Engineering Mathematics (or if you're comfortable with the material there is an advanced version) . It dips your toe into all of the mathematics you should study in your first year, it's a heavy book, but it will definitely give you an advantage when you start.
Just so you know OP there's an excellent book which more or less covers your course called The Making of The English Working Class by E.P. Thompson, which, if you still do history next year, you would probably gain a lot from reading. (you can probably pirate it off bookzz.org to save £16)
What I would suggest you do is make an excel file with all the topics you need to cover and give a deadline for each one (like this http://i.imgur.com/OWj8D8D.png) Try meeting the deadline obviously. Revision guides are worthless, dont buy any. You wont need them. What I would recommend is using Edexcel and your exam board as they have something called "solution bank" which comes on a CD supplied with the book which shows the worked solutions for every question. Use examsolutions as well when doing past papers and thats all you need. I only recommend buying this calculator as it allows for numerical integration and differentiation which makes it easy to double check your answers.
I did OCR last year and got an A*. The only book I would ever recommend is the Heathcote textbook. Honestly it's fantastic and a million times better than the crappy purple one they gave us at school. It's worth the money 100%.
Here is Amazon link OCR AS and A Level Computer Science https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1910523054/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_.eNSzbMBEEJ5V
Or if you don't mind a used book, PM me and we can arrange something as I no longer need mine.
Thanks!
I will look into finding a viable argument. The only concern is the activity log. You said you made it up? What is it anyway.
Also, sources. Do you have to find internet sources or sources by conducting interviews outside of school and those shenanigans?
Lastly, regarding the actual thing, I can write a dissertation pretty easily. I want to do something economics related. Perhaps about this?
I use this one which is pretty good as it has everything you need to know (plus ideologies) as well as it having an online version.
For maths Edexcel publishes a lot of resources, however it's sometimes hard to access if your not a teacher and they're alright for maths but further maths loads of the answers were wrong in all the textbooks. I don't remember hearing too many bad things about AQA maths and further maths but definitely look into both
I did AQA physics and this book was good, I personally think the AQA spec is pretty good too, but I haven't looked at it in depth.
Yeah this covers both years. Here's the cheaper one which only covers AS if you're interested. Link
Could read a book based on your interests in computer science, e.g. AI, Machine Learning, data science etc.
A good book that I recently picked up was
[Code: The Hidden Language of Computer Hardware and Software by Charles Petzold] (https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/0735611319/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_qB4TBbG90ANHN)
This one was perfect for learning the content imo;
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Advanced-Maths-AQA-Core-C3/dp/0199149879/
Also has a ton of practice questions.
This is the textbook I have, which my school recommends: https://www.amazon.co.uk/OCR-AS-Level-Computer-Science/dp/1910523054.
Ask your school if they sell or recommend any textbooks - they might have them sell them at a discounted price...
If you're doing OCR https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/Books/Level-Biology-Student-Book-Science/0198351925 , can't answer for other exam boards. There should be a list of endorsed textbooks on your exams website
Why 4? That should be your first question when you consider the work load. Especially with bio one (if not the) most demanding content based course. If you're struggling with chemistrys math, then this book was useful for the majority of my class.
Many six forms around the country are asking students to get that calculator for the new A levels as you can do spreadsheets calculations on them.
The previous calculator that was widely recommended for A level was this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Casio-null-FX-991ESPLUS-Scientific-Calculator/dp/B0034BAQS8/ref=sr_1_3?s=officeproduct&ie=UTF8&qid=1504215120&sr=1-3&keywords=casio+calculator.
This one can't do spreadsheet calculations.
This is the one we were recommended to buy (even normal maths students, so count yourself lucky).
I'm am international student for what it's worth. Tha's how much they retail everywhere here...
Even on amazon.uk it costs 100+£ while being on a discount too. Idk how you guys get them for much cheaper
this one
I found the maths section harder in the book than the real thing though
This one ye
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Get-into-Medical-School-Questions/dp/1905812264
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/1137031204/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_30?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE
If you're on the new spec then you need to do statistics and mechanics. The Oxford AQA A level maths text book has all the modules you'll need to cover in it.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/AQA-Level-Maths-Year-Student/dp/0198412959/ref=sr_1_fkmr3_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1506758813&sr=1-2-fkmr3&keywords=a+level+maths+aqa+2017
Im gonna self teach a module of maths next year and my plan is to use the books to learn the majority of the content and FMSP videos for anything I'm struggling with
