Hello 90-dayers!

I think this is a great initiative. I was previously at /r/BTFC, which I found extremely useful to get focused on goals. As there will be many changes for me in the next months (taking a leave of absence), good to have a place, community to track my progress and focus on my goals. This is my first 90 day challenge, so I'm somewhat lost on procedure, I'll wing it!

++++ Stats ++++

  • M/35/183cm
  • Current Weight: 88kg
  • Highest Weight (2012): 93kg
  • Lowest (recent) Weight: Either current, or need to go back in time to when I was 17, as I've been putting fat on progressively (thus my username of becoming_dr_slump).
  • Current Body Fat: 25%
  • Diet: Mediterranean, with too many sugary snacks.
  • Exercise: YAYOG (Currently 1st class, week 4) + occasional biking + some running + occasional Kettlebell

    ++++ GOALS FOR FITNESS & DIET ++++

    Diet: Clean eating. Quit sugary snacks. I eat more or less cleanly, except for chocolates on sugars. By October 22, I am extremely proud that I've eaten sugar free on 80 of the 90 days.

    Fitness - Sprint 1: July 15 - August 13: I am feeling strong as I'm on Week 7 of Yayog 1st class. Also, I feel the burn from doing Enter The Kettlebell 3 days a week.

    Fitness - Sprint 2: August 19 - September 17: I am walking tall and confident as I've finished 1st class. To celebrate, I ran my own sprint triathlon on rest week.

    Fitness - Sprint 3: September 23 - October 22: I am strong and generous as I'm in the next 10-week program, week5. I can complete a Turkish Get Up with my 16kg Kettlebell. And do a pistol on either leg without it.

    I have no goals on dropping weight, as long as it remains around current level or lower. But I'll be tremendously pleased if body fat goes down to 20%.

    ++++ GOALS FOR SPIRITUAL CARE ++++

    In the last six months, I've become aware of a lot of crap heritage I carry on my shoulders from growing in a narcissistic family. I need to do a lot of cleanup as I choose to (1) have a good life, (2) stop the cycle of narcissism so I don't become narcissistic myself and (3) build an alternative mindset for me and my family. The narcissistic circle finishes with me.

  • By Oct 22nd, every single week, I've taken time to review my goals, the blueprint for the life I want to build, plan action and adjusted my plan. And taken time to care for my mindset and goals.

  • In sprint 1, I feel liberated and full of energy, as I complete all the exercises on The Happiness Trap: How to Stop Struggling and Start Living: A Guide to ACT: Russ Harris, Steven Hayes:

  • In sprint 2, I'm a generous and happier recovering nice guy, as I've completed all l the exercises on No More Mr Nice Guy: Robert A. Glover. Plus another difficult book.

  • In sprint 3, I've read 4 more difficult books and done exercises. Books to be determined based on needs I determine in the next month.

    ++++ GOALS FOR PROVIDER ++++

    By Oct 22nd, I'm confident on my future as I've built a local network of work contacts of 50 people, and identified 10 new positions I'm going to apply to for my next position.

    ++++ OTHER ++++

    I need to clean up a lot of my psychological heritage, as it's negatively affecting my relationships and life in general.

    I start a leave of absence this summer, to recharge batteries and reconsider next career moves.

    I will travel to my country for one month with my kids (source of fun and stress), which will allow me to better understand where I come from and how is my family working.

    ++++ Let's Be Friends ++++

    I'm on Fitocracy. I invite you to friend/follow me/message me!

    Also, if anyone else on Europe time, support PMs & checks are an option. PM to discuss (never done this one before, seems like a good idea).

    Good luck, everyone! We can do this!

Hello everyone! I'm /u/silent0siris here for the first time, and I found this from over on /r/bodyweightfitness and thought I should give it a try!

I'm living in Montreal and just started going through a separation-and-divorce (started Dec 1), so I'm trying to focus on taking care of myself and getting my single life in order. I've been pretty slight for my whole life, so I'm excited to try and put on a few pounds of muscle. I've also had a persistent pain in my left leg for a few years- had it evaluated a year or two ago by a PT, just have to do some flexibility work to keep it down, but it's hard to keep consistent about it.

I'm also creating my first on-my-own game in 6 weeks, following along with a group in Montreal. I'm excited to see what I can do!

    It's inspiring to see others goals! I'm excited to give this a shot.

Hello friends! I'm very excited about this whole process and just trying to better myself. Every day seems to be a different struggle, but I really think it's worth it - seeing a whole community of people really pushing to better themselves every day is awesome!

  • Listening So I'm a huge Hans Zimmer and 8tracks fan (computer version, I don't like the mobile interface) and I have a big playlist of epic/superhero/soundtrack music that really gets me going every day. I have that on repeat, for sure.
  • Reading Textbooks and journals for class. And when I'm trying to avoid screen time before bed, I pick up Whispering Vivaldi, a book that is about stereotypes.
  • Watching Recovering Netflix addict, here. Currently watching Criminal Minds straight through. I try to keep myself to only about one episode a day.
  • Playing around with baking. I'm really into trying to convert recipes into healthier options, so I've gone on a crazy oatmeal muffin kick.
  • Loving where I'm at in my life right now. I'm in a transition point, I'm back in school, I have a great support system... I really couldn't ask for more in terms of my overall place in life. I love this community and support it offers. Just overall happy thoughts!
  • Hating that I'm stressing about applying to doctoral programs. It consumes my thoughts.
  • Hobby-ing I believe my cooking falls under this category!
  • Excited about Going for a walk outside tomorrow - it is beautiful!
  • What else? Just a little about me: I am in a one year (which really equates to less than one year) master's program in which I'm expected to do the research for and then write a thesis (I know I'll be okay) while taking classes. It's stressful. I gave up on life today and took a nap. I binge on rice cakes. But I'm trying to learn to move through it. I love where I am in life, but at the same time I know it's a short transition so I am also stressing about applying to doctoral programs. Just really stressing about this next step, all while trying to enjoy where I am. rant over

    Thanks for listening!

Hey everyone! It is a gorgeous sunny day so I took my strength training workout to the beach today. Hooray! I have also lost 2 inches from my waist this month so I am beyond happy.

I also got the "last resort" sports bra from Title9 and am SUPER impressed. Love love love it!

I have no recipes. I have literally been so bad at cooking lately. I will throw out there though that my favorite cookbook in the universe is definitely the Well Fed cookbook. I have made about half of the recipes and love 99% of them.

I just bought Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrammage on Kindle, plus I got A Tale for the Time Being and A Constellation of Vital Phenomena on Audible for long runs and entertainment while doing Christmas food prep :)

What to Eat looks interesting - would love to hear if you find it useful!

Happy Day 1!

Yesterday / Sunday - Cooked my second meal in my new slow cooker. Beef stew over cauliflower rice. It was amazing, and will give me meals for days. Did dumbbell weight training at my apartment.

Today / Monday should be easy enough.

  • Cardio in the morning.
  • Work all day.
  • Won't be able to begin with my portfolio as I have to get ready for a blizzard that's coming over the Northeast and I have to prepare for that.
  • Definitely need to clean my apartment.
  • I'm going to learn some more guitar chords after work

    And from my Intro here are my Sprint 1 goals:

  • Continue workout schedule.
  • Avoid unnecessary snacks throughout the day.
  • Avoid unnecessary drinks at night.
  • Complete a design for personal portfolio.
  • Clean the apartment for at least 20 minutes a day.
  • Play piano or guitar for at least 30 minutes a day, four days a week with no distractions.

    I also want to add reading a book this sprint. I am reading one that I try to read once a year, Chasing Daylight by Eugene O'Kelly

Congrats on the interviews!

Hmm, re-reading Dan Brown, eh? I liked his stuff, but I probably wouldn't read it again. Have you ever read/heard of The Book of Air and Shadows by Michael Gruber? It's similar to the DaVinci Code in plot, but much better writing. It was one of the best books I've read.

u/nanochic · 1 pointr/90daysgoal

I love the cookbooks that I have. They're Pilsbury Fast and Healthy, Pilsbury Good for You, and Betty Crocker Quick and Easy. They all require things that are cheap and easy to find.

u/Rorcan · 1 pointr/90daysgoal

This is the book i'm reading/drawing from! It starts from an extremely basic, "you've never drawn before" sort of standpoint, which I liked.

I've made a lot of progress so far, in just 6 of the lessons. Although, I've taken a little more than a day a lesson.

Yeah, Pete Pfitzinger wrote the definitive guide to marathon training, it's considered to be the bible on /r/running and /r/advancedrunning... http://www.amazon.com/Advanced-Marathoning-2nd-Pete-Pfitzinger/dp/0736074600

In the book there are sample training regimens for all sorts of scenarios, weekly milages, skill levels, etc. Hal Higdon also has this sort of thing on his website, but I think Pfitz does a better job with speedwork.

Book recommendation: I highly recommend the biographic trilogy of Theodore Roosevelt by Edmund Morris. Trust me once you start you will not want to do anything but read until all three books are done.

First book is called The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt

I think I read in [Willpower] (https://www.amazon.com/Willpower-Instinct-Self-Control-Works-Matters/dp/1583335080) that the benefits start at 5 minutes, grow until 12 (which is why I picked it) and then it's diminishing returns after that. That said I've had incredible experiences meditating for longer periods- it's just not practical to do more that 15 for me on a daily basis.

Books

  • All About Roasting, Molly Stevens - I just want to roast everything, this is my bible. The roasted carrots and beets alone want to make me cry and I've gotten several non-beet people to eat the all.
  • Joy of Cooking - My reference book for basic stuff
  • Food Substitution Bible - For every thousand times I go, "Huh, I don't have that...what the heck do I replace it with?" and it is fairly international reference

    Sites

  • Smitten Kitchen - I want to be her when I grow up. Seriously.
  • Chocolate Covered Katie - For all my healthy desserts
  • Budget Bytes - Thanks to y'all!

A VERY recent (as in July 2014) Cold War biography that has gotten attention is A Spy Among Friends. Here is a NY Times review of the book. It sounds fascinating, though I haven't read it myself!

Try this.

When it comes to learning about nutrition, a textbook is your best bet. Much more science-heavy, but engineered for someone who doesn't know the material, and not full of bullshit pseudoscience and fad diets.

[EDIT]: Just because i'm killing time at work: There is a big difference between learning about nutrition and learning about diet/eating habits. The two are very very connected, but often you'll find diets and eating habit information/books are just so much bullshit. It really pays off to ground yourself in the science so you can differentiate between what is real and what is not.
