I'm only 1.5 months post ablation but doing great so far. I would recommend just going straight for the ablation, it's almost an inevitable outcome and will save you years of research/hassle of trying to figure out triggers, get meds working, etc... Here's a great book to read:

Kardia Mobile is the closest thing you can get. I have the fitbit blaze and it will detect your pulse but it gets less accurate when you get to a high high rate like 200. I had my fitbit on when going in and out of afib while trying to prove there was something wrong with me to the doctor other than “nervousness or panic attacks”. It didn’t help so much and I ended up with a halter monitor for a month. If you are trying to catch it and get it corrected, the halter is the way to go.
I’ve had an ablation since then and it has helped immensely.
