> Sorry I haven't conducted any surveys?

Steam hardware survey is a bit 'finicky'. Some people are/were reporting that they also haven't seen anything related to it on their PC. It looks like this pop-up window. There were also rumors that it picks people randomly and even that it mainly pops-up once a person mounts a new Nvidia GPU in their system and starts steam. It's all faint rumors though. There were also those shenanigans not so long ago with PUBG being popular in chinese cyber cafes and for some reason it was overcounting a lot of different users who were logging on the same (mostly nvidia/intel based) systems: Link. AFAIK valve did a roll back with some fixes and everything went back to normal.

> I was simply saying that the popularity of these cards is because they're gpus that folks don't have to mess around with and upgrade anything else.

I understand that and agree, but here's what i meant - let's take a look at that steam hardware survey again - 'GPU share' tab:

  • On the 2nd place we have 1050 Ti with a share of 9.70%

  • On the 3rd place we have 1050 with a share of 5.13%

  • On the 6th place we have 750 Ti with a share of 3.84%

All those cards can be powered only from a PCI-E slot. Where i'm going with this? As we know - AMD also offers a low-end Polaris single slot/PCI-E only powered card - RX 460/560 class. It's around ~35% faster than 750ti and is basically in the territory of (similarly priced) ~1050's performance - as we can see here on the 'Relative Performance' graph. 1050Ti is obviously above all of them. Since RX 460/560 offers similar to 1050 performance then it should be around or at least not that far off 1050 in 'gpu share' at steam hardware survey right?

Quick check and it shows that RX 460 has a share of 0.43% while RX 560 is at 0.25%. Since with those PCI-E powered cards it's as you said "they're gpus that folks don't have to mess around with and upgrade anything else" - if those RX 460/560 cards were known by that group of budget gamers which are using or simply prefer PCI-E powered GPUs then those cards should have a lot higher share right? (provided that there's no brand bias) Especially when they can be paired with some cheap freesync monitor which as we know actually makes the biggest difference in budget tier since it's not uncommon for people with those low-end cards to fiddle around with graphical settings in games to get a good balance between decent FPS values and visuals. So generally RX 460/560 + freesync monitor (not even talking about hardware lvl DX12/Vulkan) is a lot more beneficial for an average gamer on a budget than having a 1050 alone (since G-Sync monitors are expensive), because freesync causes that gameplay still feels smooth even when fps are dropping noticeably below that 60fps mark (which is to be expected on low-end cards - those fps drops).

That share of RX 460/560 simply indicates that majority of budget gamers have no idea about those decent low-end RX cards and freesync. This is an interesting showcase of how big Nvidia's mindshare is in the "average gamer that just follows a brand name" community. That's the thing me, user i originally replied to - /u/pls_halp_cri and the majority of users in this 'branch' of comments are pointing out.

Again, the main reason i highlighted in my previous post those few responses from user /u/luapzurc is, because they're disregarding the power of mindshare (and you sir /u/Microsoft_Gerald - agreed with them ;). People going with 1050Ti over rx 470/570 is not only, because of "no additional power from the PSU needed". (I'm not counting here the group with (going for) cheap prebuilds with 1050's and 1050Ti's.)

After following various PC-related subs and other parts of the internet dedicated to PC gaming for quite some time now - it isn't really that hard to notice a lot of misinformed/overconfident (ala "i'm always right") people going for 1050Ti over rx470 (with a focus on raw gaming performance) as their upgrade (especially as it was during the first several months after the release of those 2 cards) - mainly, because "it's Nvidia bro, AMD drivers suck", or "Nvidia is always faster and cooler".

I mean, this whole brand loyalty in 'uninformed mainstream gamer' community is quite often on a such high levels that there are literally people saying that Ryzen is so behind intel that it's basically another FX series, claiming that there's 25% IPC difference between them, people saying "why should i even bother with an AMD card when i want to game?", fanboys literally wanting intel's and nvidia's monopoly and "AMD should just go bankrupt finally, who needs them" and people still buying 750Ti's over similarly priced RX 460/560's for budget (and older core 2 quad, 1st-3rd gen i5 based) PC's without even knowing that those RX's are ~35% faster (there's no excuse other than Nvidia's mindshare when all those cards are only PCI-E powered). Those examples i listed are what i personally noticed.

    Regards and peace :)

Looks you have 4 options...

MSI X370 XPOWER GAMING TITANIUM - Most expensive. I'd probably pass on this one personally, too expensive for the features on offer.

ASUS Crosshair VI Hero - Second most expensive, but probably the best one out of the ones up for pre-order on Amazon. 12 phase power design, decent feature set.

MSI X370 GAMING PRO CARBON - Quite a bit cheaper. Seems like a fairly decent board. 10 phase power design, claims support for 3200MHz(OC) RAM. Pretty decent feature set.

ASUS Prime X370-Pro - Cheaper again, and again a 10 phase power design. Supports 2666MHz RAM, but may well OC higher. A fairly nice feature set as well.

There are a few B350s available as well, but I personally wouldn't go for one as they're a bit of an unknown right now in terms of OC capabilities.

Freesync is marginally more expensive than standard panels, it's just up to the manufacturer to set up Freesync into the monitor. Here's a $122, 22', 1080p, 75Hz monitor that has freesync (48hz-75hz range):

https://www.amazon.com/AOC-G2260VWQ6-Gaming-Monitor-Black/dp/B0158L13M4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1480820821&sr=8-1&keywords=AOC+G2260VWQ6

At this moment it is out of stock, but you can probably find it on other sites too. Another one is this $149, 24', 1080p, 75Hz monitor that also has freesync (48hz-75hz range), and this one is in stock on amazon with a used one going for $100:

https://www.amazon.com/ViewSonic-VX2457-MHD-DisplayPort-FreeSync-Technology/dp/B018MYTH9U

(Edit: both are TN panels, in case you're wondering)

Unfortunately, I couldn't find a sub-$100 monitor. My guess is it's usually not worth it to the manufacturers to implement Freesync in anything less than 1080p/75hz. Also, these monitors don't have a very big Freesync range to work with, so my theoretical 40hz situation would only work on more expensive monitors, which in their case has Low-Frequency compensation to alleviate this problem, which isn't a big issue because they usually have extremely high refresh rates already. I heard you can overclock the monitor to increase freesync range to 40 Hz, but I don't know how to do that.

Good luck with your purchases! I'm afraid the best monitor deals have come and gone with Black Friday, where I'm pretty sure we could have bought a $60 1080p monitor.

u/buki9 · 2 pointsr/Amd

Great! That's good to know. So if I won't OCing I would be good with that mobo, even for a 3900x.

Yeap, it doesn't look too wise haha. It's:

u/Koreenium · 1 pointr/Amd

It would not make a difference as long as the converter does not support your monitors resolution. Only plausible solution could be an active adapter (converter) as it supports higher resolutions but the real active adapters cost 80-100$. You can buy a new monitor for that amount. And you can tell if it is real active adapter or not, is if it has an USB cable attached to it. The ones that are labled as active adapters but don't have a USB cable are actually passive adapters and you already own 2 of them, clearly they don't work.
Here is what an real active adapter looks alike: https://www.amazon.com/Accell-B087B-002B-UltraAV-DisplayPort-Dual-Link/dp/B002ISVI3U/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1467454662&sr=8-3&keywords=DisplayPort+to+DVI-D+Dual-Link+Adapter
NOTE: I can't promise that even this would work.

I know my Radeon VII is NOT a Navi card.... however, my Radeon VII easily eats 300w of power (stated by the radeon control panel).... don't skimp with power supplies. get a large size, look for SALES that pc nose picker doesn't show.... I got an 850 platinum on amazon for 99.99 on sale.... normally sells for almost 200.... just look for good deals.

also, for a small fee of 10 dollars more, you can get a 2600 from amazon.... which will be BETTER than the 2400g and last a few years too. the 2600 is also 6 core 12 thread instead of 4 core 8 thread.... you ARE buying a navi gpu, no reason to NOT spend 10 dollars more for the 2600.....

IF you have a microcenter near you, get the inland 1tb nvme ssd, its better than the crucial 1tb nvme ssd and the same price.

that case is horrible for air flow.... everything is gonna run hot....

https://www.amazon.com/Ballistix-Sport-PC4-24000-288-Pin-Memory/dp/B07MGPH9R9/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?keywords=ddr4+16gb&qid=1564354412&s=gateway&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1

this memory is CHEAPER than your two chips.... each of your chips is 8gb for 40 bucks... 80 total. this deal, not only do you get 2 8gb chips, but its only 67 bucks... AND its DDR4 3000..... which will make your cpu run better in games and apps

pc nose picker is great for getting a generic read on what to buy, but they don't always have the best deals listed..... always shop around manually....

For sub $200, I feel pretty confident you won't do better than this:

https://www.amazon.com/ROG-Crosshair-VI-Hero-Motherboard/dp/B06W2L6GBX/

And it has all of the fun precision boost overdrive, voltage offsets etc. fun you could want. It even has presets, you can run performance enhancer if you've got good cooling and it will set precision boost overdrive settings for you. That's going to be the lowest touch for maximum performance, plop the chip in, set performance enhancer to level 3 and go. If you have a really good chip and cooling, set it to level 4 and offset votage to -.075 and you should get very nearly max of what your chip can do.

u/defiancecp · 78 pointsr/Amd

Build details:

Streacom FC8 Alpha case - $190

Ryzen 5 2400G - $169

Gigabyte GA-AB350N-Wifi - $125

G.Skill 2x4GB 3200 DDR4 - $115

Mini-Box picoPSU-120-WI-25 - $60

19V 120W AC Adapter - $18

CPU power connector - $5

ATX extension - $6

So the case is WAY expensive, but options with internal passive cooling hardware aren't exactly frequent, and the build quality is great. The Motherboard did pose a little trouble, since it came with an ancient bios... But I kinda knew that might happen. I have another PC with an 1800x, so I just borrowed it for a bit to do the bios update.

With the build complete, stress testing using intelburntest on extreme does get it a little hotter than I like - quickly rises into the 60's and by the time it really plateaus it's in the low 80s. Admittedly, that's sustained stress, so probably not a concern, but I felt a little better after underclocking to 3.4 and pulling the voltage back to 1.18 max using the pstate OC options. After that, it now never breaks mid-60s under stress, and cinebench score dropped from 880 to 818 - acceptable for the particular use case. I also tested heat buildup in the 3dmark paraglider stress test, and video underclocking wasn't necessary. Underclocking will also likely help with the power limitations --- Although in both stress tests, power was a non-issue, the PSU is just 120w. One side note about psu selection: There are a lot of picoPSUs out there, but almost all of them NEED 12v from the brick, and just directly pass that 12v input to the 12 rail. That's a good solution, but 19v high-current bricks are a LOT less expensive than the 12v equivalents. Especially when you consider the possibility of replacing a brick, I think it's a better solution to get the slightly more expensive picoPSU that accepts higher input voltages (12-24 all OK). Plus, that means the 12v rail is likely better regulated than raw output from a brick.

The PC is my wife's - She just changed jobs, and her computer resides in our bedroom. She uses it for some Android development, accessing her work vm, general purpose pc (browsing, bills, you know), skype, and some light gaming. The old one was a basic build with inexpensive PSU, so when it was on it was crazy loud. Now?

Utter. Dead. Silence :) Also a LOT less space occupied. Total cost was just under $700. Case was of course a huge part of that expense.

Edit to add: forgot to mention, had a MyDigitalSSD 240g m.2 drive in hand already, so that's the drive in use here.

Found this ViewSonic XG2401 24-inch 144Hz 1080p Gaming Display with 1ms, HDMI, DisplayPort and FreeSync for $269. It looks pretty awesome, I know its more than $200 but it is 144hz and looks good overall. After reading this post i got curious, if anyone else has any suggestions that would be awesome.

> n OC upto at least 3.8, while the 1600X can go max 4 (4.1 if you're lucky I guess). The cheaper FlareX is a scam, get anything rated at 3200 CL16 or better, it should run at at least 2933.
> Try to wait a couple of weeks before buying the GPU if you can. The fall in ethereum prices has at least resulted in increased GPU availability. Hopefully, prices will normalize soon. You should definitely be able to go for the RX 580 8GB then.

You could probably save on the cost of your OS just get a windows 10 pro key from a digital store from anything from $15-$45 dollars
or go here /r/microsoftsoftwareswap/ they also have them for sale for about $40.

That would save you $100.

That should work with the budget. I have mortar max instead of tomahawk max, which aren't much different but in size. I expect it to work pretty well for next 5 years. If you want/need new faster memory which ryzen loves, I would go with something like https://www.amazon.com/Ballistix-Sport-PC4-25600-288-Pin-Memory/dp/B07MNJP6RW

Guessing that you are in Europe so here's a RX580 8gb around 330.

The RX580 is a fantastic card and in combination with Freesync it will provide you with a wonderful 1080p experience. Being a RX580 user myself, I suggest undervolting and overclocking the card. It's really easy in Radeon Software and the free performance is totally worth it!

u/iiTz_SteveO · 2 pointsr/Amd

I would personally recommend the Nixeus Vue 24. Best 1080 monitor I have ever purchased. I play "competitively" so having 144Hz is great! Plus it is FreeSync as well!

Any 3000/15cl 3200/16 cl ram...
It's not quad channel, but 4 ram sticks will work just fine.
Best option would be something like Ballistrix 3000/15 cl AES ones, like

I ordered these copper heatsinks https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00637X42A/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_t1fyDb8YAG6RD

Not pictured: I have a few aluminum ones on there now with Thermal Grizzly Minus 8 thermal pads, but they are too tall (14x14x8mm), they are getting replaced with the smaller copper ones on Monday.

Drilling... Yes. Yup. I did that. I barely enlarged the holes by say .2mm. Just a hair. I had a vacuum on while drilling, which I couldn't capture in the photo. I cleaned everything super well afterwards.

Idle is now 32C (GPU temp) with the card overclocked to 2160mhz, 1199mv, +90% power, and 910 MHz memory. Junction temp also idles at 32C.

Would I recommend doing this? Only if you are comfortable completely disassembling your expensive GPU, drilling out two holes on your card, and figuring everything out, including vram heatsinks.

I put a 2 fan to 1 fan adapter to my motherboard's AIO header, which is powering both of my pumps (CPU and GPU). Two pumps or fans should be ok on one header.

Attempt this at your own risk.

EDIT: CARD IS UNSTABLE DUE TO MEMORY TEMPS, ABANDONED IDEA

Samsung b-die @ 3200 with CAS 14 (at least) timing is the RAM you want.

Here is a better deal for the same price: https://www.amazon.com/G-SKILL-Flare-288-Pin-Memory-F4-3200C14D-16GFX/dp/B06XFT7DF9/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1536593608&sr=8-6&keywords=3200+C14

For the RGB fan: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820236442

Timing 14-14-14-34

Both of these are the same price or lower than what you have.

Here's one that is better and will save you QUITE a bit of money, but I'm not sure about their customer support with great timings 14-14-14-31 and is Samsung B-die: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820313712 or https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820313711

There are current BIOS issues that make it perform horribly above 3000MHz (Should be fixed soon), but my ram can do 3400MHz before destabilizing, but that's probably just my ram not being a very good overclocker (Hynix MFR can typically only hit ~3333/3400), I think if I had better ram (like these Micron E-Die modules or some B-Die modules), I could probably get 3733MHz (above that you can't get very good performance because of infinity fabric)

I strongly recommend the x470 Taichi, it is an excellent board, and with VRMs powerful enough to overclock a 3950x.

u/jeremiahs_bullfrog · 1 pointr/Amd

You should check the prices at launch though, some of the better coolers are quite inexpensive.

I don't OC, but my wife's FX 6300 would overheat playing some games (stock settings), so I bought a new cooler for ~$35 that significantly cut core temps and also had a quieter fan (much larger than stock) and moved so much air I actually took another fan out of the case.

If the spread between OEM and retail versions of the same chip is fairly close to a quality aftermarket cooler, I recommend getting the aftermarket cooler even if you're not planning to OC. My computer is still on a stock cooler (Phenom II x4) and it's fairly loud, but I haven't had a crash so I haven't bothered upgrading. I'll likely buy the OEM chip with a better aftermarket cooler OOTB this time around though.

If you're getting a 1080p Freesync monitor, then THIS is the one I recommend.

You can save a further $30 by getting the one with the "simple" stand, HERE.

I've used this monitor, and it is by far the best one for the price, and better than some monitors that are much more expensive.

u/dannyd1999 · 1 pointr/Amd

Well for $250 there's not many 1440p options to go for so your best bet is an ultrawide IPS if you can sacrifice the 144hz. https://www.amazon.com/LG-29UM68-P-29-Inch-21-UltraWide/dp/B01B9IDLAW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1474659083&sr=8-1&keywords=freesync+ips

People have reported being able to successfully overclock it to 75hz if you wish to do that. Seems like a nice monitor to me, I haven't seen it in person but judging by what they're saying the colours on it are great.

Stand looks a little bit flimsy to me though. I'd get a VESA mount.

u/videogameenthusiast · 7 pointsr/Amd

I'm more on the "70 bucks is not worth it, the 2200g is just too good " side of the fence, and i'm glad that the prices here in germany are reflecting that. I think 50% more for SMT is totally justified.

2200g 96€

2400g 149€

Those chips are amazing.

u/[deleted] · 2 pointsr/Amd

Assuming you're going by current Amazon prices ($179/$189), and you're already a fan of XFX, then you might want to consider the XFX RX 580 w/ 8GB VRAM: https://www.amazon.com/XFX-Radeon-1386MHz-Graphics-RX-580P8DFD6/dp/B06Y66K3XD/ which they are currently selling for $189

I can't speak to XFX as a brand, but if you already considering them, then this card seems like the best bet -- You get the RX 580, plus you get the 8 GB of VRAM.

Single channel memory will hold you back, but the difference in practical use is less than some people would think. It's on the order of 10% or so except for certain games and software. Examples of outliers include Hitman 2 or Counterstrike: GO, 7-Zip compression software, etc. Those can see increases of +30-50% vs a single channel setup. An example of a less sensitive program is Cinebench, where you may see only a 1-5% difference.

That said, memory kits are pretty reasonably priced right now and you could jump to a 2x8GB DDR4-3000 kit for $66 if you're in the US. With the frequency increase and moving to dual channel mode, you'll see around a 15% difference on average in games and applications - noticeable.

Edit: Fixed memory kit link.

https://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-RR-212E-20PK-R2-Direct-Contact/dp/B005O65JXI something like that on a budget. Noctua's are good for more $.

XFR and PBO are ryzen 2 features that auto-overclock your cpu based on thermal sensors.

https://www.anandtech.com/show/12625/amd-second-generation-ryzen-7-2700x-2700-ryzen-5-2600x-2600/5 is a good write up on the tech.

From posts here, dialing in manual overclocks and voltages will rarely offer much higher performance than turning those on with a good cooler.

u/MrWally · 3 pointsr/Amd

That's good to know. I was basing my opinion off of a few reddit posts and LinusTechTip's video on the LG 29''. He felt like it wasn't quite large enough.

I feel like if I can get an LG 29" (preferably this one) on sale at Black Friday or sooner, then that will make my decision.

Thanks for your comment, it helped a lot. I haven't talked to anyone who actually uses the card I have with the monitor (or a similar one) that I'm looking at.

And as u/Ovlovian has pointed out (Happy Cake Day!), the Vega 56 Pulse is only $320 right now on Amazon.

I had my old 8320 at 4.5 ghz on a Hyper 212 evo and it was certainly worth it over the stock clocks, but definitely get a better cooler, the stock one cannot handle overclocking.

u/SE_Apocalypse · 3 pointsr/Amd

95° is nothing to worry about on a 290x, though throttling indeed starts at that point. PUBG is a piece of shit, so I would not be concerned about AMD performance on that nvidia game either.

But the sound of the fan makes me think your fans are in for a replacement, which is annoying. Card is most likely out of warranty as well. Undervolting, accepting the throttling for a while and waiting for vega sounds still like the best option. Your 290x should not throttle hard enough to make it a real problem.

You could try to ask gigabyte if they can send you an replacment cooler kit for your card or try a cheaper air cooler set for your 290x.

Arctic Accelero IV for example is just $50 and is actually slightly better than most 3rd party 290 coolers. Was the way to go when the 290x still had only reference design cards on the market and is cheap enough. Still, redoing the VRam pads might do the trick too, hard to tell.

In general, it is a great monitor, one of the cheapest 144hz 1ms 1080p monitors you can get right now if I'm not mistaken. Freesync is the only grudge I have against it, I feel like AOC did a terrible job making sure it works properly in all games, which is why mine is currently sent in for an RMA to see if anything is wrong.

The Verdict: Make sure the drivers are properly installed, then try every game you own with freesync on. If you encounter any major artifacting with it on, return it and go for the ViewSonic XG2401 if it's in your price range. If you want to be on the safe side, just simply go for the ViewSonic in the first place.

>Don't sweat your voltage if on stock.

Help me understand this one. When Ryzen was coming out, I know a lot of people were worried about stock voltages. Is this turning out to be a non-issue?

One more thing... know anything about RAM voltage and what's considered safe for that? (This will be my kit). I'm going to try to OC to the best and tighten the timings.

u/4ssyr · 2 pointsr/Amd

It'll run completely fine but won't overclock.

Fast memory bandwidth is highly beneficial for Ryzen. I'd advise going for a 3200 CL14 B-Die kit like this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/G-SKILL-F4-3200C14D-16GFX-PC4-25600-Channel-Memory/dp/B06XFT7DF9

Nixeus Vue 24" 144Hz Gaming Monitor, AMD FreeSync, 1920x1080, 1ms, Adaptive-Sync 30Hz to 144Hz

This one has widest operational range for freesync that i have found, and i really like it. but you do need to play with gamma and other calibration setting a bit.

link goes to nicer stand you can get it cheaper with more basic stand.

Review I went off of.

Thanks for the heads up! Your post has convinced me to buy the 2x16GB kit from Amazon. Hopefully I can get a similar overclock once I complete my 3700X build.

Edit: Not sure if these support 144hz properly, but works for 60hz. If anyone knows, please chime in.

Edit2: After some research, you need an active adapter, which are very pricey for proper 144hz output.

You're lucky I just spent my day researching this as I plan to do it. Get the twin turbo III. Then I'm buying ram heat sinks off of Amazon and buying the vrm heat sinks from the hybrid 120 III off arctic cooling's page. From what I'm reading the vrms get fairly hot 91 celcius with just the backplate heatsink which is why I'm installing extra on the front. Also make sure there is enough clearance on your board, front fan = 53 mm, rear heatsink = 23mm.

That being said my comp needs a primary card to recognize the Rx 480 for some reason, so personally the heat sink from my quadro nvs 295 at 18mm will just touch the twin turbo rear heatsink who knows maybe that will dissipate vrm heat further. When I get home I'll link you the vram and vrm/fet heatsinks.

imho buying a non-freesync/non-Gsync monitor nowadays means you are really missing out. 2k IPS adaptive refresh is a good place to be right now I think, since next years GPUs should destroy games at 2k. This monitor looks good.

http://www.amazon.com/Acer-XF270HU-27-inch-Widescreen-Monitor/dp/B0173PEX34

the official reviews are not out yet but the G-sync version got great reviews, and it should be the exact same panel. Just my two cents.

Edit: Also don't forget that with freesync you don't get LFC unless the panels max refresh rate is 2.5x the min refresh rate. so 4k panel that can refresh from 30-60hz WILL be choppy and tear under 30 FPS

u/Austinaveous · 1 pointr/Amd

Stock bios had mine at 1000 mv. I upped mine to 1050. The timings helped a lot. Also my cooling is pretty top notch. I'm using these heat sinks, this thermal paste and this cooler. I removed the thermal pads that come on the heat sinks and I'm using the thermal grizzly for the ram heat sinks and the GPU its self. Not to mention that cooler comes with a huge back plate for additional dissipation.

u/randobilau · 2 pointsr/Amd

I would suggest a tower style air cooler in the $30-$40 range. They are the most reliable and simplest solution, and offers the most value for your money. There's quite a lot of options:

bq! Pure Rock Slim $30 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01KVNCEIG/

CM Hyper 212 EVO $35 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005O65JXI/

Enermax ETS-TF40F $36 https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16835214064

There's like a half dozen more options, these are some highlights looking at the current cooler prices on pcpartpicker.

If you can add some money, buy this monitor instead which has FreeSync and is 144Hz.

Otherwise, if you can't spend 50$ more, check out this and this.

Don't buy a non-freesync monitor.

As for the 480, no it won't overheat, the node202 has a big grill right where the fan is, so it can take as much air as it wants. MOreover, since it's a blower style card, the volume of the case doesn't affect the cooling (cold air is taken by the fan and hot air is spit right out of the case through the rear. Hot air doesn't remain in the case)

Good for the rest ;)

u/Drama100 · 1 pointr/Amd

----------------------------------------------------------------------

A note on the overdrive, and supposedly not being able to enable it while Freesync is on, overdrive works together with freesync. It's not that overdrive is turned off, it's that the option to turn overdrive on/off is disabled because overdrive is always on with freesync while using displayport.

Furthermore, from what I understand, it is ONLY enabled while freesynce is running. Therefore, if you're not using freesync while using display port, overdrive will be disabled, and may run into bad ghosting.

Even if you have freesync turned on in AMD settings, freesync will not work unless a game in fullscreen. Playing a game in windowed or windowed borderless, will result in freesync not working, and in turn, no overdrive.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Here is the only real review I found online,

-----------------------------------------------------------

This is a review for the XF270HU, the IPS version of this product, I think the XG270HU is a wonderful monitor, I loved it, but the IPS version? Well, read on.

This is an expensive monitor and the amount of issues on it makes me sad, sad to think Companies are willing to charge so much for such garbage products.

List of reasons why this monitor makes me sad:

1-) First of all, the Overdrive on this monitor is Broken, the Overdrive function is greyed out when using DisplayPort, its usable on HDMI or DVI but as you may already know, this monitor can only do 1440P 144Hz on DisplayPort so you're pretty much left on the dirt, also the FreeSync function only works on DisplayPort.

2-) With Overdrive disabled and broken you are left out with huge amounts of Horrid Motion Blur thanks to the atrocious Rise and Fell times of this panel making up for choppy and blurry frame transitions, this panel is the same as the one you find in the more expensive XB270HU so you can use TFTCentral's benchmarks on that panel as a precise baseline for this one, that means this panel have 12ms response time when using DisplayPort, 13.2 Choppy Rise Times and 9.4 Horrendous Fall (Fail IMO) Times, this is just hilarious!

3-) Have you ever wondered how this Monitor managed a 40-144Hz FreeSync Range while the more expensive higher Quality Eizo FS2735 couldn't? or why the MG279Q was limited to 35-90Hz? Well, that's because this monitor is forcing a Frame Scaler that doesn't support these FreeSync Ranges, the result? A Blur Fest like no other, one on top of the already Blurry Moving Image thanks to no overdrive, I kid you not I felt like this monitor was streaming its images from Netflix and that every time there was a moving object the resolution would drop to 480p and go back to 1440p as soon as there was a non moving scene, this was the main factor behind me returning this piece of garbage, If I buy a 1440p monitor it should look 1440p at still and moving images.

4-) Like if all of that wasn't enough I did ordered two of these monitors in case one of them was bad and I had to return it given the atrocious Quality Control, I'll upload a picture you can see below of my 2 monitors, Both presented Backlight Bleed and IPS Glow, one of them had a like a Lake Spot in the middle, one big patch of inconsistent brightness, it just makes me cry.

5-) As if that wasn't enough there were several Bugs/Glitches in the OSD, there was one specifically in the Color Temperature setting, this kind of careless programming makes you realize how little Quality Control these monitors have, probably all failed Panels from the XB270HU are Re-Used to make these monitors, they couldn't even bother to make FreeSync and Overdrive to work.

This monitor should be pulled from Amazon right away or force Acer to fix it ASAP, things like FreeSync Blurriness and Ghosting can't be fixed thought, as this is a hardware problem caused by the Scaler and not fixable with a Firmware update.

I can't believe I'm going to do this, but I'll also make a Pro List of things for this product.

1-) Believe it or not, the color reproduction on both of my samples were superb, absolutely stunning, especially if you calibrate the 6 Axis Saturate to 60-57-57-57-58 for Vibrant Colors.

That's where the pros End, even that one good thing this monitor have can be replaced by a TN monitor thought, I got the BenQ XL2730Z after getting this one, you can check my Amazon Review on that Awesome Monitor, that's got to be one of the best TNs monitors on the Market, it was hard to even notice a difference between the XF270HU and the XL2730Z unless you compare in Un-Natural viewing Angles, considering the XL2730Z is a TN that means a lot.

while that person did try to help, he is a bit out of touch with ssd prices..

sata ssds haven't gone down in pricing in a meaningful way for the past year, they are still around ~110$ for 1tb and samsung likes to charge their tax on top of that too..

instead, you can get nvme ssds such as this or this for the same price..

their performance and warranty is equivalent to a samsung 970 evo, if not better.. and are miles faster than a sata ssd...

RAM: while the one you picked is 3600mhz, it's running at cl18 the memory latency will be same versus a kit running at 3200/cl16 or 3000/cl15.

get these crucial ballistix sticks instead, you can overclock them way beyond their rated speeds (Search for E-Die overclocking on the web to see approximate results) make sure they have "AES" in the model name and you're 100% guaranteed to have E-Die sticks.

CPU Cooler: while noctua is great and all , i personally think the NH-U12S is a waste of money at that price point, just use the stock cooler that comes with your ryzen cpu for a while and save those 70$ towards a noctua nh-u12a or a Noctua NH-D15 (Comes in black variant too now).

Swap out your corsair kit for either one of these kits.

This kit will be able to pretty comfortably overclock to 3733/3800 cl16 without issue and with pretty low voltage, and this Viper kit is samsung b die which will clock to 3733/3800 cl14 with very tight timings.

Wouldn't recommend the corsair kit if you want maximum performance.

I also just got a 480 and a good monitor for the price is a Viewsonic XG2401. 1080p/144 Hz. The free sync range bottoms out at 48 Hz but with a 480 that shouldn't be a problem. It is a TN panel so viewing angles aren't as good as IPS, but that really depends on your setup.

For now its not making any noises idk why it stopped now but i didnt do anything , my friend told me stock heatsink are not good and he told to get a hyper 212 cooler master https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B005O65JXI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_ly0mDbJXEM8P3

Other than that for the rgb for the fans where do they go usually ?

Do you know if this one works or know one that does?

Refurbs of similar monitors can be had for $280 to $350, if you are patient, and get lucky.

u/matusrules · 3 pointsr/Amd

Micron e-die is much cheaper and could potentially reach that, depending on how much you wish to tweak the memory.

u/chimarz · 2 pointsr/Amd

if you can afford it honestly get a 1440p ips panel with freesync you can get them refurbed from acer for 430. the difference between ips and tn is huge to me at least its all subjective tbh but i feel that it is a large upgrade. here is the link to the ips version of that acer https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0173PEX34/ref=twister_B018FLZ63G?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Add 80$ extra and get this https://www.amazon.com/LG-29UM68-P-29-Inch-21-UltraWide/dp/B01B9IDLAW/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1519603952&sr=8-2&keywords=lg+29um58
Trust me 25 inch ultrawide is like 22 inch classic monitor. Also you will get 15hz extra with the model above and freesync.

Like This one

Also look for others in the comparison table on there.

u/ZorglubDK · 2 pointsr/Amd

Was looking at nitro+ ones like OP mentioned he got, didn't realise that was the price for used ones on amazon - new ones are $240 it seems.

Although, you can get an 8GB XFX rx580 for only $190.
So 580s for 200 or less, is quite possible currently.

u/AMD_Mickey · 6 pointsr/Amd

Are you located in the US? Sapphire has an RX Vega 56 Pulse for $319.99 on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BGZNTQJ/

This also comes with The Division 2 Gold Edition and World War Z.

You can also look at XFX's RX Vega 56, similar for $299 from Best Buy, only today: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/xfx-amd-radeon-rx-vega-56-8gb-hbm2-pci-express-3-0-graphics-card/6183041.p?skuId=6183041

That monoprice adapter will not work for 1080p144hz

You need a powered displayport to dual link dvi adapter. These are pretty expensive.

https://www.amazon.com/Accell-B087B-002B-UltraAV-DisplayPort-Dual-Link/dp/B002ISVI3U?ie=UTF8&keywords=bizlink%20active%20displayport%20adaptor&qid=1435597922&ref_=sr_1_2&sr=8-2

Beware adapters that are listed as 'active' adapters, but do not actually have an external power input.

u/DavidGman · 1 pointr/Amd

in the amazon page it doesnt mention rev 2.

is it the same cooler?

u/Mageoftheyear · 1 pointr/Amd

You know... Acer's XF270HU might be more what you're looking for.
It's a 27" 2560x1440 IPS with a FreeSync range of 40-144Hz retailing for $599. But Amazon has it up for $550.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002ISVI3U/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 bought. tested on vega 64. works. My 120hz montitor only has dvi-d so no hdmi option for me.

u/ubercritical · 2 pointsr/Amd

That would work but for a couple dosh more, I would go with the 212 EVO instead. Unless, for some reason, you NEED the T2.

u/looncraz · 1 pointr/Amd

Personally, I would not go with water. I'd get this:

https://www.amazon.com/ARCTIC-Accelero-Efficient-VRM-Cooling-DCACO-V800001-GBA01/dp/B00HHMJIIO

Another user on here has one and the GPU maxes out at 65C or some such.

u/Coroner117 · 4 pointsr/Amd

You didn't mention the refresh rate you're targeting, but have you checked out the Acer XF270HU? It's a 27" 1440p IPS FreeSync panel with a FreeSync range of 40-144Hz through DP at a reasonable price (549 USD on Amazon).

I heard it had some issues with Overdrive, but I didn't do enough research to discuss any of that.

u/CptBrian · 2 pointsr/Amd

Do you mean this one? The one you linked is only 75Hz 2ms.

u/darienswag420 · 1 pointr/Amd

for 1080p 144Hz go with the Viewsonic XG2401

for 1440p, i'd probably go with the Korean Crossover 27V. it's around $330 on eBay. also has Freesync which is rare for that price and size. you could also try to catch a refurbished BenQ XL2730Z in the upper $300 range.

My personal choice will be the LG + RX 480 / 490.
Edit: That LG's FreeSync range might be expandable to 32-80 hz (LFC sweetspot), source:
