Don't download a ton of apps that are supposed to "optimize" your device. That's like eating a ton of snacks that are supposed to help you lose weight: you're gonna get fatter. Keep Greenify, forget the rest.

THIS is the best optimization: download apps you ARE going to use and delete everything else.

About CM... Do you know anything about rooting? Custom recovery? Bootloaders? Custom ROMs? I see you quite interested about the benefits of using CyanogenMod, but keep in mind that if you mess up during the process, you can brick your phone, lose it forever (I think you'd have to be pretty clumsy for this to happen, though).

Games: Duet, Mountain Valley, The Room (1 and 2), Leo's Fortune, Two Dots, Rayman Jungle / Fiesta Run, MyBoy! (Game Boy Advanced emulator; you can download the roms from the internet).

You have to remember this, though: games will drain your battery, no matter how good your phone is.

For a person that seems so enthused about the whole smartphone thing, I think you should really think about saving some money and buy a good phone. Some off-contract options:

  • Moto G (1st Gen): $179

  • HTC Desire 816: $179

  • OnePlus One: $300 (if you can get an invite)

And if you ever go to China, Meizu MX4 or Xiaomi Mi4.

Personally, I think if you live in the US the HTC is the best option.

The note4 is expensive, but very feature packed and worth it for many people (like me).

The screen is rather awesome, so if you take a bluetooth keyboard with you (folding), you should be able to type away.

Using the stylus is like writing with a pen, but it is short/lightweight, so if you end up doing more than a new quick notes, you'll want something a bit larger like what Bamboo makes.

Yeah, transcoding is pretty slow. If the system doesn't have Bluetooth, you can try one of these for an easier solution. http://www.amazon.com/HomeSpot-NFC-Enabled-Bluetooth-Receiver-System/dp/B009OBCAW2

Does the touchscreen work? If so, get an MHL cable, and use it with an HDMI cable to cast the screen. Then you can see what you're doing.

If touchscreen doesn't work...I'm not sure if the S5 supports 11 pin MHL, if so you can use an adapter like this that takes an HDMI cable and a mouse.

If that doesn't work, unfortunately replacing the screen will be your best bet. I wouldn't trust random recovery-ware that might compromise your phone or computer.

I assume you meant unbreakable, but virtually all cables are the same. Some advertise rugged/reinforced/durable, but honestly just don't buy cheap unbranded crap.

Also if you're constantly stepping on them, then stop buying ridiculously long cables. Get either 1, 3 or 6 feet at most, setup a dedicated charging area on a nightstand or your computer area, lay down some 3M Gripping Material, and use cable ties to keep the cables close against the walls and up the edge of your desk so there's no slack.

Anything from Anker or that has a braided cable will do fine. Like the Anker PowerLine, or Tough Tested micro-usb cables are both fine.

What you are hearing about is the Type-A to Type-C USB.

The two powerbanks which I know of are: Anker and RavPower

Here is a Anker comparison of cable to stock. Updated PSA

Here is a discussion between those two.

There is(/was?) an issue with the USB-A to USB-C cable included in the Anker; however, if you use the Type-C to Type-C cable you should be fine. Additionally, Amazon now forbids non-compliant USB-A to USB-C, so you can go through them to get a fix

The RavPower is working great for me (when I need it).

I have tried many Bluetooth to 3.5mm adapters, some cheap, some very expensive. All have been fine for playing music, but the only one that has had a microphone as good as my Motorola Roadster BT speaker is this one. This one may be a bit faster but really Sandisk drives are usually the fastest but 128Gb MicroSD cards are pretty new so don't have the same kinds of speeds yet.

One that I've seen recommended a lot is the Logitech K480. It's a bit bigger than your tablet but you'll be doing your fingers a favor by going with a bigger keyboard.

u/Spoon815 · 1 pointr/AndroidQuestions

I don't have one, but I'm willing to bet no. That isn't flash memory, its a spinning drive, which needs power.

Also depends on the phone. Samsungs work with otg drives. Nexus devices you can use stick mount.

I know this is not the same size as that drive but I have this this works great.

Edit: You can also try

I use this. Sadly doesn't have an extra battery, a trackpad, USB ports, or anything, but it's better than nothing, and I haven't had any problems with it at all.

One more thing, Qi chargers are pretty picky about placement. This charger has multiple coils so you can just slap your phone anywhere on it and it should work. I haven't bought one yet because I heard the placement thing was annoying, but I just saw this one last week and was thinking of giving it a try.

That may be worth a shot.. I'm trying something similar with a friend's Moto x but this should let u use a tv as a monitor and a mouse could be plugged in so you could run sms backup and restore.

Otherwise you might be able to do other things if I have debugging enabled

You can get a BlueTooth keyboard for pretty much any tablet. I use this keyboard and case with a Nexus 10.

u/mitchsurp · 3 pointsr/AndroidQuestions
  1. Your phone has to support USB Host Mode (what kind of phone is it?)
  2. This piece of equipment
  3. This adapter
u/graesen · 1 pointr/AndroidQuestions

Sounds like you might want to get a USB OTG adapter and flash drive or something then. I picked this up a little while back and keep it on my key ring. Comes in handy once in a while.

u/Super_Midget · 1 pointr/AndroidQuestions

If the tape deck works you just need a regular ole cassette adapter you can pick up at most stores like Walmart, target and such. If it doesn't work you need an FM transmitter instead

I actually think the Nexus 4 uses SlimPort instead of MHL. So something like this.

u/jalabi99 · 1 pointr/AndroidQuestions

You can get around the lack of SD card slot on the Motorola Moto X very easily. Just get an OTG cable or an adapter like this, or this. Then plug a 64 GB microSD card like this into it. Problem solved!

u/fliptrik · 1 pointr/AndroidQuestions

This is a pretty solid charger. Some users report a little heat but I've never noticed anything I wouldn't already get from a regular plug-in charger.

u/fineimadeanaccount · 1 pointr/AndroidQuestions

I do that as well. I just use one of these, hook up directly the camera, and it will import your photos.

Then you can do whatever. Most likely upload to G+.

u/NightFuryToni · 1 pointr/AndroidQuestions

I got this one for one of my cars: https://www.amazon.com/SoundBot-Bluetooth-Hands-Free-Wireless-Streaming/dp/B00RH29CJO?th=1, and my other car I have a Belkin CarAudio Connect. Both powers on when power is supplied and auto connects, and launches DriveMode for me. As for a mount I went with one cup holder mount from Macally and a generic CD slot clip, you can find these on eBay.

u/UndeadStormtroopers · 1 pointr/AndroidQuestions

Based on what I'm trying right now, I think that particular problem was the movie I was watching, and one poorly recorded song. The problem with line-in, though, is that my phone, regardless of which music player I use, will pause itself like the cord was unplugged after 1-10 seconds of playing. This has happened with both the line-in cassette tape in my car (like this), and trying to use the line-in on my old iHome. It doesn't do this with headphones, both small IEMs and a larger pair of over-ear ones. This started happening maybe a week ago.

If you do go the extended battery route, I picked up the 10,000 mah battery from zerolemon (off amazon) and I've never given battery life a second thought in the 7 months I've had it. The sucker lasts DAYS. Typically, 3 hours of regular screen use over 17 or 18 hours will drop the battery from full to 80%.

If you're an average worker, turning your phone on a few times during the day, at lunch and using it to listen to music, your battery will last 3-5 days.

An EXTREMELY heavy resource day (gps/data/3d rendering/ingress-type day), I'll still get 15 hours of screen time. I've managed to use up the battery in a full 20 hours once or twice.. but that's when I had the phone on literally all day using every single resource the phone had.

u/dsrtwhlr · 1 pointr/AndroidQuestions

I've got a 6p - I just bought the Micro adapters.
No - it doesn't rapid charge, but it keeps it charged, and charging, with screen on navigation.

These are what I bought. Some reviews say it didn't work for them, but i haven't had any issues.

Maybe try a [slimport] (http://www.amazon.com/SlimPort%C2%AE-SP1002-Connect-connector-Supports/dp/B009UZBLSG) adapter? It should mirror the screen to anything with an HDMI input. As long as your digitizer works you should be able to interact with it, but I think you lose USB when it's plugged in.
