>Furthermore I just don't know what my purpose is. I don't have anything to work towards, I don't know what I want in life.

Welcome to adult life, the realisation that this is it. You have to make your own entertainment, set your own goals.

There is a massive difference between depression which is an illness and a general disillusionment with life. The first should seek medical help the second is just life, get on with it.

I can't answer to the first but the second, well I have some experience. Get a hobby, preferable both physical and social.

You have three beasts to satisfy.
The intellectual, the social and the physical.

Intellectual is easy, read a book. You were a student reading should come naturally. This time do it for entertainment and enlightenment. (I find that they are often the same thing)

Physical is so very important, we are intelligent animals but we are still animals. We need exercise! it's good for our health and mental wellbeing. Go for a walk!

Social is more tricky, picking up a book is easy, going for a walk is easy. Finding a social group is way harder. Those lucky people that have large social groups just seem to fall into them and don't appreciate their good fortune.

The good news is that it's just a skill and skills can be learnt. You learn them from reading books, see that's the first thing I mentioned.

Welcome to the world of self-help books. There is a lot of dross in this world but there are gems to be harvested from the shitpile.

First on the list is a classic. How to win friends and influence people. LINK if you find it useful, then there are several others from the same author.

TLDR: Read more, talk to people and go for a walk.

I've just recently bought a fresh batch of Ethiopian coffee from the local roaster, a nice man with a stall in the Cambridge Market. For the last few months I've been making coffee with an Aeropress - I can not recommend it enough, it's honestly the best £24 I've ever spent.

It's halfway between a French Press/cafetiere, and an espresso machine in that it uses immersion to bloom and extract the coffee, and pressure to actually get it into your cup.

Edit: my awful spelling

Anyone looking at getting away from instant coffee, or also for a nice gift, this should most certainly top the list.

Edit: Assuming you mean Americano in that you're using espresso and hot water, you'll actually get more caffeine from the drip/filter coffee! :)

Sureflap Microchip Cat Flap https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B003EGIM3O/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_Zrl.zb057N9J0

Hope that works. I got that one when I bought my house because the reviews were great. I have two cats and was able to program it to their microchips so either of them can come and go (even if they lose a collar) but no fuzzy visitors otherwise (was an issue at the old house, where the flap was very basic.) It's been great! It was easy to teach the cats to use it, and easy to see when it needs a fresh battery.

The Aeropress if you drink coffee. It's £24 on Amazon at the moment but it has been under £20 before. https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/Coffee-Tea-Espresso/Aerobie-AeroPress-80R11-Maker/B000GXZ2GS

I don't really understand how it makes such good filter coffee, it's magic or something, but it's really easy to use and makes great super-fast one cup coffee for those who want to use filter or grind their own beans but don't want to run a full coffee maker / make loads of cups / wait around.

Got one of these in my boot -

AA breakdown and safety kit plus

Contains most of what you’ll need you need and has Velcro pads so sticks to your boot floor and side.
I also have a boot organiser on the other side with essential fluids in plus a bottle of drinking water I replace every so often. Add some of the other stuff people have mentioned as you see fit.

Also congrats on passing ! :)

Why can't people provide links?

I am asuming it is this one that you bought https://www.amazon.co.uk/carefresh-Custom-Hamster-Bedding-Natural/dp/B00OUVDCVY

Whilst the description does not state expanded/unexpanded there is a clear picture of the packaging in the advert which does show it.

I think you will struggle in any legal capacity as the photo clearly shows the size, however you might have a chance on the fact that you believed it was packaged size. you would have to demonstrate that a reasonable person would have reasonably assumed the size.

That said, if it is unopened you can return it at your expense for a full refund

This item isn't dispatched or fulfilled by amazon, so their cover won't fully apply either. Contact them, be nice and you may get a good resolution.

I'm a poor student who eats a lot of cup noodles. My favourite is anything from the Nong Shim Shin brand. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B0054G7HR4. It's a Korean pot noodle, you should be able to find it in any specialty (East) Asian shop. Very nice, very spicy. Perfect for a cold weather. They have several flavours, I think.

For those 'super noodles' type, try Indomie ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WG2dLLIZK3Y&feature=youtube_gdata_player). This one comes from Indonesia, and is really nice as well. You can cook following the Maggi style, as suggested in the other post.

And Pot Noodles is terrible. Once you've tasted the East Asian products, you'd never go back to pot noodles.

Dashcams are the best purchase you can make for your car, it provides an unbiased view of what happened during an accident and will save you a lot of money in the long run. I was side swiped by a van whilst I was parked and the guy drove off without stopping, came back to my car and the camera had caught it all as soon as the car moved slightly. Highly recommend getting one and don't forget to get a large SD card for it, if you chose a high quality for the video you'll only get a few hours of footage with the 32GB size.

Would also recommend getting one that has GPS tracking on it as well as it can save your arse if you need to prove that you, or rather the vehicle, was somewhere else. Shop around on Amazon, I'm using this one and don't have any complaints.

Never submitted clips to the police of twats on the road, eventually they'll crash or be caught by a camera/officer. If you need examples of why you should get one though just look at the UK dashcam compilation on YouTube, there have been some occasions where the other drive has lied through their teeth only to be proved wrong by the camera.

If you fancy, you could read Attention All Shipping for a tour through the shipping zones. I certainly found it an enjoyable read. :)

I use this Philips one as its super cheap, does a good job and lasts ages. I think there’s a slightly more expensive model that you can rinse under the tap.

I use the VAVA Dash Cam. https://www.amazon.co.uk/VAVA-Image-Sensor-1080p-Videos-x/dp/B076FVPTLN

The Nextbase 312GW is currently the second highest rated one on Which (the highest rated one is about twice the price): https://www.amazon.co.uk/Nextbase-312GW-Full-1080p-Black/dp/B01ELRJW5Q

But if I were to get one nowadays, I’d probably get one from Anker, purely because I’ve had great experience with their other products, and their customer service is top notch when it comes to guarantees. Which would likely end up being this one: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Roav-Resolution-2560X1440-Wide-Angle-Recording/dp/B072FVX74Q/

One of the main things you want in a dashcam is a GPS sensor, this will log your drive and also show your speed on the recording.

I know I'm a bit late to this thread, but Andrew Marr's History of Modern Britain is fantastic.

u/uffa · 3 pointsr/AskUK

If you are really keen on driving in the UK think about spending £2.40 on a copy of DVSA Official 2015 Highway Code.

It is what all drivers should of read to pass their driving test in the UK. It will tell you how to handle roundabouts :)

Read this -> Chavs: The Demonization of the Working Class

Swiftly followed by this -> The Establishment: And how they get away with it

Short books. Easy to read. Fucking eye opening.

u/ud_patter · 7 pointsr/AskUK

These 2 would probably go well together The Making of Modern Britain & History of Modern Britain

Always used to think Andrew Marr had his finger on the political pulse while he still had the Westminster slot on BBC. Don't know about any good Tory books though.

u/GreenBeret4Breakfast · 18 pointsr/AskUK

I have this one, it's a sureflap one and is a little more expensive, but it detects the cats microchip so no need for a collar attachment. It's very good. Bought a cheaper one which let any old cat in and had lots of issues of other cats coming in. In fact one day I had it set to in only and left the hallway doors shut and got woken up to a random cat trapped running full speed into the cat flap trying to escape.

Humane traps are very effective. Our cat brings in mice all the time. We use this one.

I got a really good one from Amazon with adjustable volume and brightness. £15.99. It has a battery backup (not full functionality, but when the electrics go back on, it has the correct time and settings).

OCUBE LED Digital Alarm Clock, Bedside Clock with 5 Optional Alarm Sounds, USB Charging Port, Full Range Brightness Dimmer, Big White Digit Display, S https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07VKM2K2J/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_hUaycohyacQFU

> I am asuming it is this one that you bought https://www.amazon.co.uk/carefresh-Custom-Hamster-Bedding-Natural/dp/B00OUVDCVY

If it is that one then the dimensions are there "Product Dimensions: 33 x 10.2 x 17.8 cm", and come out at slightly less than 6 litres at 5991.48cc.

u/UnbandedTyping · 5 pointsr/AskUK

You can get these in most supermarkets and some smaller shops now, as a spicy Pot Noodle alternative.

u/thatbloke83 · 1 pointr/AskUK

https://www.amazon.co.uk/AA-5618-Breakdown-Safety-Inflator/dp/B00QIIZOKO

I have a kit similar to this in the boot of my car at all times. Only thing I'd potentially add is a spare blanket

u/thenewfirm · 3 pointsr/AskUK

The Official DVSA Highway Code https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/0115533427/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_toKRCb9MTTK1V

You can also Google highway code and look it up online.

u/WronglyPronounced · 14 pointsr/AskUK

Yeah you get plastic '1 way' traps which are humane. You do need to release them a couple miles away to stop them returning and being more annoying. Something like this will do the trick if you use decent bait

u/SeekTruthFromFacts · 1 pointr/AskUK

For background to the UK constitution, certainly start by reading (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Devolution-United-Kingdom-Vernon-Bogdanor/dp/0192801287/ref=sr_1_3?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1417568609&sr=1-3&keywords=Vernon+Bogdanor) or listening to (http://www.gresham.ac.uk/lectures-and-events/the-new-british-constitution http://www.gresham.ac.uk/lectures-and-events/our-new-constitution http://www.gresham.ac.uk/lectures-and-events/devolution-and-the-territorial-constitution) Vernon Bogdanor.

John Curtice is the top psephologist on Scotland. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Curtice list articles, but sadly he hasn't written a big book laying out the whole situation (possibly because he's on TV and radio every week).

David Torrance is an overtly Unionist journalist, not an academic, but I think he's the first person to write a book on the recent referendum (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Battle-Britain-Scotland-Independence-Referendum/dp/1849545944/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1417568795&sr=1-1&keywords=David+Torrance)

Also, the BBC News website has thousands of pages covering this issue. Sadly the relevant front page (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/events/scotland-decides) only covers a tiny fraction of them. Maybe start here instead? https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=Scotland+Quebec+site%3Abbc.co.uk
