System Era Softworks are looking for C++ developers, so your information seems accurate.

I’d recommend you start out [playing around(https://www.amazon.com/Python-Cookbook/dp/1449340377) with Python before committing to C++. It’s much easier to achieve to some tangible goals. Maybe start out scripting some simple tasks. E.g. create ten files that each contain their own creation date and file path. Then progress through making some short text-based multi-choice adventure game (Gender-Neutral-Internet-Person and the Quest for the Reddit Upvotes). Start out simple and see if you enjoy the challenge before committing to learning C++ through game development.

P.S.: System Era lists familiarity with Python as a desired skill. It’s still relevant for automating tasks and getting stuff done even when you learn more complex languages.

P.P.S.: Python 3 is the right choice. 2.7 is an outdated dialect. You’ll know what this means soon enough.

You are correct, it does need a hub. /u/Wintonson you can buy the bulbs in a kit with the hub or you can buy the hub standalone. I have some of these and they work pretty great for my purposes. There is an API so if you’re a coder you can control them through code, some applications such as f.lux are compatible, you can control them with Apple HomeKit/from your phone, etc.

Do note that they’re not all RGB. They also sell ones which are shades of white only. You need the White + Color “Ambiance” ones to do like the OP. The one you linked as well as the ones I linked are the right kind.

The Echo Plus (2nd Gen at least) can also work as a hub for them, so if you happen to have that anyway then you don’t need the standalone hub, but I don’t have one and can’t speak towards how well that works.

Depending on where you live, you can start similar setup with 75 euros, there is a good deal on Amazon.de for 2 color bulbs + bridge, down from 150 euros. it is a killer deal. You need bridge to make it work like in the video and use color bulbs, otherwise it will not change colors.

The link for Amazon deal is here: https://www.amazon.de/dp/B0797WGVWW/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&linkCode=ll1&tag=1322b-45545v-96656-32d21b232-92d078879-d798a-4537d-a53b5-aec4-21&linkId=12d71c1bc3e74301212b0e491b76008d&language=en_GB

Nowadays Amazon makes good deals on Hue Bulbs.

Since your PC is based around an Intel CPU, I'd recommend the GTX 1050 ($109) or 1050 Ti ($139). This Zotac GPU should work just fine for Astroneer, considering my old GTX 660 pulls 60 FPS (at least in a new game)

Bubble? You'll need lots of compound 😜 maybe something like https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CLGGYOM and some grey spray paint?

(Maybe ping-pong/table tennis balls would work too? but might be too big?)

Hey op, if I was to get this for my lamps by my tv, do I need a hub or anything else to do this? (connecting to pc as well)

Hey back at my computer. Specs:

water cooled i7-4770K, Two XFX AMD Radeon R9 graphics cards, 16GB RAM.

I had no issues at all with lag during my journey, but oddly enough DID have an issue right as I returned to my base with lag. I chalked it up to me having played for so long. I also need to update the drivers.
