A little late here, but let me add: Get ye to training, and read. Especially if you're getting a puppy. Training a good dog is actual work, and not something to just improvise through if you haven't done it before.

Puppy Perfect I picked up this book before we got ours, and it helped us set a regimen of positive reinforcement training. I liked it because it walked through the stages of growth, and what to work on at each stage. Ended up working very well, and we've got two very awesome bostons because of it. We also took them to classes because it was helpful to get a professional trainer's advice, and a good socialization exercise.

I know you said no balls, but one of our guys loves Chuckit balls. When he isn't just chewing on it, he'll push it around with his nose and make it fall off of the couch and down the steps then chase after it. And these things are indestructible. They make a bunch of different types, but his favorite is the original. We got the medium size and it's perfect.

If you have room for her to run, invest in the chuckit ball launcher. It makes throwing the ball so easy (and you don't have to get your hands all slobbery!)

I know what you mean I have a boston of my own and she goes through some toys like there made of tissue paper.

The one we did get her that she loves and is still like new (minus a few chew marks) is a rubber Bamboo shoot and she just loves playing and chasing that thing all over our apartment.

My guy loves planet dog toys. We also have a shark http://www.amazon.com/Tuffys-Shack-Shark-Sea-Creatures/dp/B002O4W14I that is holding up well.

Antlers are amazing for chewing.

The breeder we got ours from was feeding him this, which we continued to feed him but he never seemed that keen on it. He started to have issues with scratching his eyes and ears so one of the measures we took was to change his food, to some wet stuff. His scratching cleared up but his poops were quite soft and we often needed to clean him up after he'd been for a poop. We then changed again to this, which firmed things up but he would skip meals often.

Around 6 months ago we changed to this, and it was remarkable how different things were almost immediately. Like I say, number of poops per day were reduced and they were healthier looking. He also eats the full bowl as soon as it is put out 99% of the time.

Just trial and error really, try some different foods out and see how he/she responds.

When my dog is super antsy, I'll put half of his dinner in one of these. Then he spends the next half hour chasing it around the house to get his food out of it, and by the time he's done, he's tuckered out. I also make sure he has lots of toys and bones and hoofs to chew on so he has something to do so he's not bored.

$45 for a 30lb bag Taste of the Wild. Sometimes he gets buffalo breath, but he scarfs this shit down like noone's business. I remember this particular type getting an A or A- on one of those food rating sites, the top ingredients are all meat.

Easy Walk dog harness Otto is 21lbs and he uses the small medium. Fits great and it works.

Edit: This page has the sizing chart.

This is what we've been feeding ours and he almost never farts anymore unless we feed him too many treats for being a good boy.

I've tried so many harnesses and the best I've found are the Ezy Dog Harnesses. The go on so easily, they are solid, they have reflective stitching and they are cushioned around the chest and armpits. My boston's run like crazy with them on with no problem.

Try one on for size because Boston's can be tricky to fit (not quite small and not quite medium often).

i had the same problem with mine. we used this :

http://www.amazon.com/Nutri-Vet-Nasty-Canine-Chewables-60-Count/dp/B0015GQ0U2

their recommendation seemed a bit much, so i gave her one half of a tablet once per day. it makes her poop more frequently when she takes it, however she stopped trying to eat it. i would give her the half in the morning with breakfast, before bringing her to my parents house to be watched. it would change the smell of her poop until the next morning. i do not use it regularly any more. only when i feel that she may be unattended and able to eat her poo.

hope this helps, good luck!

try one of these out. they’re not so clumsy. KONG CloudTM Collar - Plush, Inflatable E-Collar - For Injuries, Rashes and Post Surgery Recovery - For Medium Dogs/Cats https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B0045Y1JG6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_bDZwDb5V87855

This is what we get ours.

We noticed that it greatly reduced the potency of his farts.

u/reticulatedspline · 1 pointr/BostonTerrier

I've evangelized these here before, but consider getting him an inflatable collar instead of the typical cone of shame. It's sort of like one of those neck pillows you you see people use on airplanes. It's thick enough that it prevents the dog from bending enough to reach the wound. It also doesn't block their peripheral vision as much, nor does it interfere with eating or sleeping as much. Boy my boys vastly preferred it to the cone.
