If you've contacted the location holding the exam to schedule and that's what they told you to get, then yes. They told me to get this study guide when I took it, though.
The questions were not exactly the same, got at the content in slightly different ways, but fairly similar. I found memorizing the key points of each article and amendment was really helpful, in addition to going through the actual study questions.
You can use a regular student permit ($178?) for both your motorcycle and car. UTAPS sells a "permit holder" (a plastic thing) for about $10. When I ride my motorbike, I lock the permit holder to my bike. I used to use an over-sized pad lock, but last semester I saw people using cable locks which is a MUCH better solution (link below). When I drive my car, I put the permit holder in the lower right corner of my windshield.

An alternative self defense tool is a powerful flashlight like this one. Most attacks occur at night and you would use the flashlight to temporarily blind your attacker while you ran away. Flashlights are not against the weapons policy. I encourage you to also take self defense classes as you mentioned and know where the nearest "emergency call station" is.
