I'm 10 weeks and also a preexisting diabetic. Somewhere between a type 2 and a type 1...started as type 2, but at a very young age and have been insulin dependent for years. Had some relief in the year or so before getting pregnant due to surgery (long story).

All of that being said, my blood sugars also went crazy pretty much as soon as I found out I was pregnant and I'm back on my insulin pump. It definitely is getting better as I approach the end of the 1st trimester though. Try and hang in there.

And maybe you know this, but as long as you keep decent control, diabetes doesn't necessarily mean scary outcomes and interventions. In some ways, we're ahead of those ladies that get diagnosed with GD much later in the pregnancy because we know how to take care of ourselves, we know what to expect, and it's not this new scary thing to adjust to. We also know sooner and can be more proactive, where many women could be having blood sugar issues before the GD screening but not looking for them.

If you haven't seen it, I'm a big fan of the book "Balancing Pregnancy with Pre-Existing Diabetes" by Cheryl Akon (a Type 1 Diabetic mom herself). Empowering, not scary, and plenty of good info for either Type 1 or Type 2 moms.

Good luck to you and your tiny LO.

I have had 4 miscarriages. The first 3 I got pregnant with 1 or 2 cycles immediately after the previous loss. I never learned the reason. The 4th was a D&c and did have a genetic issue.

From my personal experience, In retrospect, I wish I had spent some time to:

  1. Properly heal from the loss both physically and mentally
  2. Taken supplements and have a diet that supported optimum egg and uterine health before trying again. After reading "It starts with the egg" and "the woman code", I believe I could have done something to help my situation before trying again. It may not have made a difference, but what if it had?? It could have saved me much grief.
  3. Did some accupunture treatment. I truly believe it helps with circulation to the uterus.

I want to be clear, MOST MCs are caused by genetic abnormalities and it is Not your fault!

I totally understand that you want to move forward by moving on to the next pregnancy. This is just one person's experience and you have to do what is right for you.

Here are the books I mentioned if you want to read them:

It Starts with the Egg: How the Science of Egg Quality Can Help You Get Pregnant Naturally, Prevent Miscarriage, and Improve Your Odds in IVF https://www.amazon.com/dp/0991126904/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_RlyjzbFS27J4J

Thanks! :) I love his unique name. DH and I both have incredibly common names, and we don't really care for them much. He can read Old English, and I can kinda read it too, with his help. I first heard the name Hengest from us reading the Anglo Saxon Chronicle together. According to the Chronicle, Hengest and Horsa were brothers, and leaders of a war band. They were hired as mercenaries by the king of the Britons to fight the Picts, and later revolted, which led to the Anglo Saxon invasion of Britain. Here is a funny video portrayal of the tale. This happened in the 5th century, so the details of his deeds are somewhere between historical and legendary. He is mentioned in legendary/mythical sources like Beowulf, and JRR Tolkein adapted these sources into a historical fiction called Finn and Hengest.

Æþelwulf literally translates to "noble wolf". I picked it out because I like the way it sounds. I came up with some criteria for a middle name to go with Hengest (not hard to say, flows nicely, initials not embarrassing, etc.) and DH made a list of words for us to match together. It wasn't until after we'd settled on the middle name that I googled the names together and found out that Æþelwulf was also a ruler of Kent. We obviously can't put Old English characters on a birth certificate, so we chose the spelling that academia prefers.

It's amazing... I too LOVE to record things. It has spots for like what events happened each month and what movies you watched. What was your craving this month vs adversion. I really love it.

Here is The Belly Book.

And The Baby Book. This I'm going to get after babe is born for his/her first year because I love The Belly Book so much. AND plus side is they aren't super expensive either.

Little peanut gave me an AWESOME night of sleep last night. I didn't wake up til 5 AM, and even when I woke up, all I had to do was pee. Wasn't nauseous or stomach cramping or anything!

Hopefully all of August (and September) goes this way :)

[EDIT] Oh yeah, DH took me to a Barnes & Nobles after puppy class yesterday and we picked up 3 books!

Oh lady. I'm glad you have a sweet husband and a tiny sprout to keep you company. Tears come so easily at this stage and while you have a reason, you also have a lot of hope and love around you. Have you ever seen this children's book? I think you would like it... (on phone so apologies for messy link)

I never read any baby books... Just had a few apps on my phone. Baby is not dead. You'll be OK!

I do recommend this, just because it's handy and kind of funny: http://www.amazon.com/The-Baby-Owners-Manual-Trouble-Shooting/dp/1594745978

I agree with mostly not focusing on the kid, although if you want to do something fun/goofy and geeky in with a gift I'd suggest either of these:

Amazon! I am a 32GG and the XL fit well, a little big in the band, but they hold things in nicely

This was the most memorable one, in my opinion, as far as the mom books went. I'll probably end up doing what you're doing--finding a cute book and writing notes and thoughts to the baby.

I might get this for my daughter though. I think she'd have fun with it.

We're both engineers, so we're thinking of a picture of two of our textbooks with something silly like Introductory Calculus for Infants between them.

It's a little silly, but more cute than just posting an ultrasound picture to facebook.

My skin has been ok for me so far. I have had bad skin and suffered from acne for over 17 years. I think I finally found what works for me and I have already checked with my Dr. to make sure I can continue my normal skin care routine. I do have some chest acne but it's not too bad.

I did notice that many of the ladies on here have commented about dry skin. I had dry skin too for a looong time (pre-pregnancy of course). I tried so many moisturizers. Drugstore to high end and nothing worked. Then, some one on makeup alley suggested this!

It is a game changer! Very few ingredients, lasts forever as you only need a pea size amount and very affordable!

I also use a clarisonic every other night and it helps a lot. I know that is a pricy item and I probably would not buy one just for pregnancy but it works for me so I wanted to throw that out there.

I just did a bunch using this book and really liked it.
