Ok this might be a lot of info but I’m taking my answers from a book the church leadership published called, “Right Thinking in a World Gone Wrong” which discusses “controversial issues” and can be found here: https://www.amazon.com/Right-Thinking-World-Gone-Wrong/dp/0736926437

On immigration- the general church position is that illegal immigration is wrong because a Christian is responsible to submissively obey their government unless they require a believer to disobey God. (Romans 13:1, 1 Peter 2:13-17, Titus 3:1). “If a believer is illegally residing in the United States, he should take active steps to to rectify that situation.” So seeking residency or leaving the country.

They go on later to say, “As evengelicals, we embrace the opportunity to preach the gospel to those who come to us, whether they come through legal channels or otherwise. ... In evangelistic encounters with those who are illegal residents, if such is even possible to determine, the Christian’s focus should be on reaching them with the gospel and not on confronting their immigration status.”

AND (looking at you Derick) “We do not agree with those who want the evangelical church to take a political stand on illegal immigration. While we affirm the right of each American citizen to vote according to his or her conscience, we believe it is an unnecessary distraction (away from the gospel) for churches to advocate political activism on issues such as this. Those who oppose illegal immigration run the risk of viewing illegal immigrants as enemies rather than a mission field (Matthew 9:36). On the flip side, those who advocate increased immigrant rights must be careful not to promote attitudes of insubordination or contempt toward the government (1 Timothy 2:1-4, Romans 13:1-7).

On birth control - “Nothing in Scripture prohibits married couples from practicing birth control, either for a limited time to delay childbearing, or permanently once they believe their family is complete. At the same time, Christian couples should prayerfully consider their motives before the Lord, carefully evaluating their reasons for postponing or preventing pregnancy. As in every ethical decision believers make, reasons for using birth control should reflect a biblical worldview and should not simply be dictated by the default practice of the culture.”

They go on to say that not all methods are acceptable but they conclude that nonabortifacient oral contraceptives, condoms, tubal ligation, and vasectomies are fine. The chapter discusses the science behind the birth control pill and why it is safe to use and doesn’t cause abortions. If it did the church would obviously be against it.

Personally that is one thing that really upsets me about Michelle - making people believe the birth control pill caused the miscarriage of their second child. That is simply not true and if only she would look up the science behind it and understand what actually goes on in her reproductive system. But it seems like they are opposed to rationally thinking through things and educating themselves.

The church would believe that it is sin that an unmarried couple would have sex so they wouldn’t necessarily have an opinion of that. I think a lot of church-members would think forcing an “abstinence-only education” on unbelievers would be futile and so the birth control methods stated above are also ok for non-Christians.
