I probably won't respond to every comment but I just want you all to know that I'm happy if this helped you in anyway.

I know how frustrating, demoralizing, and even depressing one can feel when struggling to enjoy what should be a happy pass-time.

I have several good resource to recommend, if you want to get better. Some of them are books. A lot of Smashers practice and watch Smash, but don't do much else to improve their mentality.

At the end of this comment I'll paste a short list of some books that I found very help for my improvement in Smash and then a link of a list of Smash resource I've compiled.

** Please feel free to send me a Reddit Chat or PM if you wanna talk more about Smash! **

It makes me very happy to share happy vibes with fellow Smashers. Like I said, I can relate to the feelings of frustration that you've all felt but I am also very fortunate to say that I've gotten a lot from this game and the community and I wouldn't change it if I could.

Playing To Win: Becoming the Champion

by David Sirlin

Link: http://www.sirlin.net/ptw/

This is a book on how competition in gaming works and having a "play to win" mentality. This means taking responsibility and accountability for everything you do and not putting excuses that only hold you back. Very helpful for your mindset. You can find a free audio version that covers most of the book here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0y6KU7ZGeMs&list=PLZbBoZgd9o1mVN2-CnS4yfbhIEbpJFrWp

The Will to Keep Winning

by DAIGO UMEHARA

Link: https://amzn.com/B01JOEKKWU

Written by one of the world's best Street Fighter players, Daigo, this book talks a lot about consistent growth, the benefits of staying humble, innovating, taking risks, and how to play with the mentality of learning and growing rather than focusing on just the win. Despite having the word 'Winning" right in the title, the book teaches the value of focusing less on the results and more on the process.

Yes this is a book on Tennis but it talks about the inner workings of your mind and how to get the best out of competitive performance and practice. Very much worth the read.

I haven't read this one yet. i'll be honest. But I've heard many trustworthy Smashers recommend it. It is said to be about "how to overcome difficulties, steadfastness, courage to take risky decisions."

I'm in the same situation as you. This is my first Smash game and when Smash released I bought a Pro Controller. I figured it was better to buy a Pro Controller so I could also use it for other games, as the GC controller doesn't have motion controls or rumble.

Three months ago, I got a PDP gamepad controller Zelda themed and I really enjoy the notches and, once used to the buttons, is amazing. The build of this controller is really good (it took a heavy hit recently and it is in top form), and it doesn't have the bumpers of a GC controller (I have tried them a bit from friends and it is plain weird for me) but regular bumpers, with the ZL that the GC lacks.

Lately I've been going back and forth between the two. I got to say, I enjoy them both for different reasons. The PDP controller has the notches, that special button layout, and doesn't sacrifice the bumpers. The Pro Controller has rumble (yeah, I like it), build quality, and it's wireless, which I prefer over wired. I'm also experimenting with a "Zachray" configuration (specials to X to do the A + Special input easier) and B to grab. I feel the GC layout has less flexibility in customization.

Right now I prefer to play with the PDP gamepad controller, but it could change in the future.

As long as it's a Gigabit adapter, they're honestly all the same speed. I bought the Plugable because it was recommended by lots of others, has great reviews for Switch use, it's affordable, AND it's USB 3.0 compatible. Works perfectly btw, perfect size for the side plate.

The Hori/Nintendo one is more expensive (more than double the price) and doesn't have 3.0 capabilities. Now that doesn't matter right now, but people believe that the Switch console is also 3.0 capable, they just haven't provided an update to "activate" it. If they ever do, and there's any speed increase to be seen, you won't get it with a 2.0 adapter like the Hori/Nintendo.

What do you think about one of these? I just picked one up, there's a wired/wireless version and so far I love it.

I can short hop just fine with the L button, sticks feel great (I just discovered they even click if you ever need that for other games or something) and just overall feels good-quality.

I bought Circle Pad Covers on Amazon for like $10:

I use the "Gamecube style" one can't go back to the regular circle pad. They feel like hard plastic but the grip is actually really good, and don't feel "sticky" like the circle pad does.

Get a LAN adapter. Even if it's not the Nintendo branded one, it's better and more stable then wifi. This is the one I bought recently and The amount of lag has good down A LOT
sorry for mobile link if anyone replies with normal link I'll replace it

Best bet for a one handed controller setup imo is getting one of these. They have an extra button under thr controller so you'll have easy access to 3 buttons. You'll need stick jump on, set A and B to bumper and trigger, and set grab to the button underneath. You could also try no stick jump and setting grab to the Dpad but then you'll need to take your hand off the stick which could be inconvenient.

Yeah they’ve got them for the console itself and the joycons it looks real nice

I use antiperspirant for under my arms, but I think there's stuff for sweaty hands too. Try looking into something like this: Antiperspirant

u/Soup-Master · 2 pointsr/CrazyHand

I have noticed I am misimputting some commands sometimes, but I am still unsure if it’s just me in the heat of the moment or the controller.

Getting an official GCC is a lot easier said than done. Amazon has refurbished controllers but reviews seem very mixed, some saying they are poorly fixed. The Smash one that Nintendo released recently are all $100+.

>The lag I experience because of my terrible internet doesn't help either. I wish I could go to tournaments but I don't have any time to go to one and there aren't ones that close to me.

That could be a source of bad habits - lag turns online play into a more defensive and predictive affair than it would be otherwise, and it's harder to punish/avoid punishment.

See if you have a local scene that plays online (for a better connection) or try using Anthers. Also look into getting an Ethernet adapter, such as this one:
