I own these headphones, and personally I love them. I wouldn't recommend them for people with bigger heads, as I'm not sure how the supraaural would feel for them. I also have a pair of AKG K81DJs that are also supraural and are too tight so I know how uncomfortable headphones like these can be if they don't fit properly.

However, if they do fit, I would posit that they are extremely comfortable cans. Not only do I find them to sit extremely well, but they are also about half the weight of any other pair of DJ headphones, which is something you definitely notice after a few hours of performing. Isolation is awesome, sound quality is beyond good, and I find that the seem to "bring out" the kicks and snares a bit more when beatmatching, making it a bit easier to beatmatch on muddied rhythms.

The ohter ones I have heard lots of good reviews for and almost purchased for myself are the Ultrasone DJ1 Pro

Hey, not to threadjack, but does anyone know where (if) you can get colored replacement ear/head pads for the HD-25s, like the ones on these Originals

Ah I see, I noticed that the first time I DJ'd for a party. My friend had a set of wires that worked as a mixer, but no mixing controller like this. I have kept an ipod ready, because crashing and malfunctions happens far too often without a legit setup, but never considered having it ready in a separate channel, so that's awesome.

So most speakers have cords which go into mixers? if not what kind of wire setups do they have, and do most speakers need separate adapters to plug into a laptop?

and Do mixers have their own separate programs which connect straight to the computer/laptop?

I've seen preview buttons on some programs, now I can see how they are useless without having two audio outputs. I've always wanted to mix with Ableton-esque programs, so I can make legitimate remixes, rather than just looping sound and adding in samples :)

My problem is, when I watch most DJ's with professional controllers and equipment, I hardly ever see them doing any work. Many times I have seen DJ's be working on the mixing (the previews) and nothing looks live (For example, I often see a DJ scratching and changing EQ traits, while the current song is playing and never hear an alteration later). I'll definitely try out some equipment at next opportunity, unfortunately, I'm in Northern Japan for the summer and access to a good store is distant.

Thanks for the links!! I'll do some research!

I got handed these at a gig a couple months ago

http://www.amazon.com/DownBeats-Reusable-Fidelity-Hearing-Protection/dp/B00A3Z44RM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1406217480&sr=8-1&keywords=downbeats

and I haven't gone out to play or went to a club/festival without them. Custom fitted ear plugs would be ideal but these work well for me for now, I highly recommend all DJs carry some kind of hearing protection with them. I have a few DJ friends and friends from the military with tinnitus and from what I've heard it's not something to take lightly.

No problem, it's actually really common for people to ditch the distinction since in electronic music so many producers also dj and they may even have "Dj" in their name.

For production, I think the best place to start is with tutorials on youtube and a DAW (Digital Audio workstation) which is just a software client for making music. Also, if you are near a bookstore, try going there and reading this http://www.amazon.com/Dance-Music-Manual-Second-techniques/dp/0240521072/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1310497354&sr=8-3. It is a great guide, and very thorough, but it's a bit pricey so I recommend reading it at a bookstore before you consider buying it. A lot of production is just finding your own way and style, but it is hard to overestimate the value of a good resource when you are starting out.

Also, try some good subreddits. There is /r/synthesizers, /r/edmproduction, and /r/Wearethemusicmakers. All of them are really receptive to questions, I find. Starting out you will probably have lots of questions, so don't be afraid to ask.

Youtube, and this book. The book will give you the theory, and youtube will tell you how to do it in Ableton.

Look up Mr. Bill and Tom Cosm. They both have a ton of awesome and free Ableton tutorials.

Whatever you do, though, don't get sucked in to paying for tutorials (exception: Tom Cosm). With a little bit of effort, you can find anything you need to know on Youtube.

Also, check out /r/edmproduction for general production tips.

Learn how to properly roll cables over-under. This especially applies to long cables like AC extension cords, XLR cables, etc. Doing this type of wrapping in the OP will fuck up your cables pretty quickly if you use them a lot - again, especially when it comes to things like long power cords. Here's a quick demo video.

Also these velcro cable ties are great. Put them on everything you wrap and unwrap frequently.

u/whymeyoujerks · 3 pointsr/DJs

I'd go with the iM9 from Numark. amazon page for it
If you wanna get fancy, get that, then put your master output from the mixer to a Kaoss pad then from Kaoss pad to your speakers for a more interactive and funkier fx. Just look at all the effects on the KP3.

Oh, and I'm slowly losing faith in pioneer. Sure, their products are durable and trustworthy, but they're also about 2-3 or even 4 times more expensive than other DJ products. For that price, they better fucking be. If you can go all out, I would go for a Rane mixer, they fucking rule.

The (expensive) hardware solution with Serato: Get a Rane SL 2,3 or 4 interface. That will allow you use the CDJ2000s like some bigger sized DDJ platters/controllers with Serato.

The (free, but maybe time intensive) software solution with Rekordbox: Download Rekordbox, reorganize your library in Rekordbox (this might help) and either

For mobile gigs I use a Lifetime 4428 folding utility table. They come in 4/6/8 foot lengths and have adjustable legs to make them counter height. Buy or make a nice table slip cover that reaches the floor or buy a facade and it'll look sharp and be mobile/versatile. I leave mine down relatively low and put my SKB R106 rack on it to raise laptop/lights/mixer up to 42" which is perfect for me at 5'10". Here's the amazon link:

so here's the setup starting with the mixer plug the rca end of [this] (http://www.amazon.com/Hosa-CPR201-Dual-Cable-3-25/dp/B000068O16) into the tape out of the mixer the 2 quarter inch ends go into the center of each of the xlr inputs on this (they double as quarter inch inputs) make sure left and right don't get mixed up of course. That interface is then linked to my computer using a usb cable i set the input on an audio track in ableton for the focusrite in's and record away. Hope this helps!

u/NarwhalTeamSix · 0 pointsr/DJs

Here try this. I apologize for my earlier comment. I didn't mean to come off as mean but after reading it I realized it was a little blunt. Anyways, this is what I started on and it was a good little controller that you can learn a lot on.

u/regreddit · 3 pointsr/DJs

You should try the Monoprice 8323s (Available via Amazon). These are $25 USD headphones, and can easily pass for $200 cans. They seal up nice and tight to block out noise, and have really decent bass, mids, and highs. I've had mine about a week and like them as much as my Grado SR60s.

u/DeepNode · 1 pointr/DJs

I use a Rane SL3 currently, recoring through serato. But previously I used a RCA -> 1/8" connector going from the record out to my laptop's input with Audacity. You should probably look at getting an external ADC if you are having problems with the cable, laptop, or mixer out. Introducing a ground loop eliminator between your mixer and laptop doesn't hurt. From what it sounds like you might be looking for something like this: USB ADC, Amazon, $79.00

u/owlicks58 · 1 pointr/DJs

Just FYI -- I recently addressed this problem for less than $20 by buying the iPad camera kit and this USB sound card.

Thus, a stereo monitor as well as the normal headphone stereo out. Here's a write-up on the setup.

u/GDIBass · 4 pointsr/DJs

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A3Z44RM/ Not as much noise reduction, but they'll fit under all headphones.

u/0dh · 2 pointsr/DJs

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B000VO8PR0 I use these, adjustable depending on what you are doing and key chain for easy access.

u/gus_honeybun · 1 pointr/DJs

I have this sat on my desk. Its not a DJ mixer, but it does what you want.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Behringer-802-8-Input-2-Bus-Mixer/dp/B000J5XS3C

Alternatively, if your dead set on using a DJ mixer, just get something cheap and cheerful like the numark m4, I don't see much point in spending silly money.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/NUMARK-M4-Mix-3-channel/dp/B00PYVST58/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1457884561&sr=8-1&keywords=numark+m4

u/waitwhatthefudge · 1 pointr/DJs

you could buy a usb audio driver to get a "second" audio card. I bought this: http://www.amazon.com/Syba-SD-CM-UAUD-Adapter-C-Media-Chipset/dp/B001MSS6CS/ref=pd_cp_e_1 and I would recommend it. I use it for djing sometimes. It works with macs (mine is a mac)

u/Bragnagar · 1 pointr/DJs

Well, i have always wanted to try these ones, they have interchangeable filters if need be anyway (I'm a musician myself). I can't try them tho, cause it's hard to reach amazon stuff from my country.

Alpine Hearing Protection MusicSafe PRO Earplugs

They are 29.99 btw.

u/makar1 · 1 pointr/DJs

You need an Ethernet Switch, as well as either a Thunderbolt-Ethernet or USB-Ethernet adapter for your laptop.

u/PolyComForYou · 3 pointsr/DJs

An audio switch to select the signal you want to hear might be practical. Example from Amazon

u/Jeffrah · 2 pointsr/DJs

PVC Laptop Stand.

Newmark Mixtrack Pro

Microphone.

(Edit): XLR Snake to connect mic and Mixtrack to PA monitors on floor.

u/Phreakiture · 1 pointr/DJs

You have a ground loop. One of these should put you right. Put it inline between the controller and the monitors.

u/danny-green · 1 pointr/DJs

Are you looking for something to complement your current DJ software?

If you're using Serato/Serato DJ you could get a MIDI controller ranging from this to this.

For Traktor, there's lots of native instruments controllers, for example, this.

u/cmfreeman · 3 pointsr/DJs

This will work.

Hosa CPR-201 Dual 1/4" TS to Dual RCA Stereo Interconnect Cable, 1 Meter https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000068O16/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_UurSCbMWAW3S3

u/Kapsize · 1 pointr/DJs

Yo man it sounds like you might have a "ground-loop" issue.. I had a similar problem when I connected my DDJ-SB2 to my sub/speaker's so I invested in a ground loop isolator similar to this. I picked mine up from Radioshack, but the concept is the same. It basically grounds all of your sound cards/peripherals with a 'common' source & eliminates the buzzing/white noise you are hearing.

u/ihaveabu · 1 pointr/DJs

what's wrong with behringers?

I'm looking at these specifically:

http://www.amazon.com/Behringer-B215D-Eurolive-1-35-Inch-Compression/dp/B002ZX80V6/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

I'm def gonna have to get active. Probably at least 400W with decent bass. I won't have $ for a separate sub.

I'm a college student. I sold my xbox to pickup the RMX ;p

or you can just DJ in the Jordan pose for the rest of your life.

ninja edit- this table isn't super sturdy side to side so if you're doing like crazy turtablism routines i'd sand bag it down

u/arrestedfunk · 1 pointr/DJs

So what did you use to practice before buying speakers? Monitors? I need to replace my speakers but i am having a tough time deciding wether i should buy speaker for gigs or just have monitors and rent speakers. Which after your advice im leaning towards.

u/djdementia · 6 pointsr/DJs

No it isn't. If you are using a low end consumer grade controller with RCA outputs going to powered speakers just put a switchbox inbetween and hook your phone up. One flick of the switch and it changes the input to the phone:

http://www.amazon.com/3-Way-Switch-Selector-Splitter-XBOX360/dp/B004T8KZCM

just ignore the yellow / video cable input.
