Personally I think it is worth it, especially if you do what I did. I bought mine off ebay from bestbuy as an open box, cost me 850ish dollars plus tax and an upgrade to next day shipping, which brought the total up to about $950.

At that price, for me its unarguable. If it had been like 1200 or so, i might of had to think about it. But at that price, it seems like one of the best choices out there.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Open-Box-Excellent-Dell-G7-15-6-Laptop-Intel-Core-i7-8GB-Memory-NVI/323328281085?hash=item4b47de09fd:g:RQYAAOSwx3dblLBx:rk:2:pf:1&frcectupt=true

It was indeed open box but mine came in perfect condition. You might not like this option, but it is a way to get it much cheaper. The sale price seems to change every so often

But despite the open box, I was able to get the full premium plus warranty from dell for it for roughly 4 years (3 years 7 months or so, due to the fact it was open box I believe.)

I think the ram should be upgraded however at least if you get into ram intensive tasks. And they do offer a 16gb ram openbox and new option from the bestbuy ebay store, and I am sure if you hunt around you will find an openbox at a physical bestbuy location if you look.

If anything my ram was the only down side to this buy. But I intended to upgrade this anyhow and will be using crucial's compatibility guarantee program to make my purchase of 32gb of ram. This ram issue might not be a problem for you, however I run VM's for work and genuinely need the extra ram for things to actually run or the VM's have a high likelihood of not running or crashing.

I also dropped a 2 TB seagate firecuda hard-drive (SSHD) in my laptop with no problem ( I disabled UEFI secure boot and made sure the bios was up to date, and it worked perfectly on the first try). 96$ from amazon. I got probably 1tb worth of games on it already :P.

Going with an 8gb model gave me a few advantages as well, for example this laptop seems to come with dual sticks of ram no matter if you buy the 16gb or 8gb model. IF you want to upgrade to 32gb of ram, expect to throw away the old ram. Also the 8gb version came with a 256gb ssd, which is not a bad size and one less thing I have to worry about upgrading. Consider that I have used 98gb on my installation already...

So overall for my particular case, if I went with the 16gb version, in the matter of a month or two the following things would of happened.

I would of thrown out the ram, as I need the 32gb of ram and cannot reuse the old sticks in this particular latptop after an upgrade.

I would of thrown out the SSD, because just my base install I have done now would of ate all of the storage space. For reference I am using 98gb of ssd space, and have only 1 game installed on the ssd (csgo)

And I would of thrown out the HDD, because my base install has already used the entire storage space that drive would of provided. For reference I used about 1tb of storage already but I do have like most of my games installed (something like 47 games). I did that because I can lol, The other 1tb is dedicated to VM's and production related stuff.

Your end result might not be the same, if you are not intending to use it for the type of work like I do, you might have an advantage going with the 16GB model instead. Each person's usage and goals will differ.

There are some things to consider however

This thing does not have the ultimate battery life of like 10 hours you can find on other laptops.

I find that it lasts anywhere from 3~4 or so.

You cannot play games while on battery, at least not on anything close to high or medium settings without huge frame rate drops. And expect gaming to eat battery life much quicker.

I am saying this because, if you have never had a gaming laptop, you should be informed to expect this. My alienware had the same issue on both performance and battery life.

I did find a way to cheat this, by buying one of these.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0713XJBG2

it gave me at least an hour maybe hour and a half of gaming time, and I suspect it will give 4~8 more hours of normal web browsing usage but I haven't tried it fully yet. It can be very useful if you are mobile and need to use your laptop for production. However I don't think you can bring it on carry-on at an airport due to the restrictions of battery sizes by TSA, you should be able to put it in checked luggage however.

Other than the battery life, I personally cannot find too many cons about this laptop. It seems to be a solid performer overall, and has all the modern features you need like the fancy new thunderbolt connection (40Gbps), and support for NVME high speed drives as well as a regular 2.5" drive (as long as its 7mm or less in thickness) . And the build quality seems very good.

Its not very flashy and the cost to performance ratio is way up there. It has the amazing 10 series nvidia graphics card and ddr4 ram and the latest generation intel processor with an insane 12 cores and even turbo boosts on 6 cores up to something like 3.9 ghz which is pretty fast.

Overall its not a bad piece of kit, and I don't think you can build a desktop for much cheaper than this with very similar specs. That is to say, I don't think its way over priced. Unlike the alienware 15 with almost the same specs for 1800

I will say however,

One of the other options is the Acer predator

https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-Overclockable-Aeroblade-PH315-51-78NP/dp/B07CTHLX8C

I might of made your decision harder, but there are videos comparing these two and some others at the same time. It might be worth the look at them, overall your going to have to decide what you like more. They basically come down to preference. There are a few laptops with these specs at this price range. For me, the dell has the understated look that can pass for professional, the capability I needed, and a brand I really trust, so it was a no brainier.

But at the end, they are all going to be great bang for your buck, the pricing on this and the other direct competitors to this laptop are solid imo.

I don't know about the reliability of the others, I don't remember having to replace lots of parts in the other brands. Only HP has really had some serious bunks that I can remember, I changed way more HP motherboards than any other laptop. But I have owned Dell's and they never failed me so I stick by what I know is usually solid..

No matter what you get, if you intend to keep it many years. You need to get the warranty and max it out if you can. If you intend to keep it as long as you say, you will want accident protection and everything, and make sure you read reviews on the warranties. You don't want to find out after you break it that the warranty you got is bulls#$%. Dell has a lot of business contracts, and they have solid warranties there, and as a result those solid warranties trickle down to consumers as well. I know I've had nothing but the best warranty support from them.

On a side note, here are a few few recommended accessories to protect your laptop no matter what you buy, its not a bad idea to get something like the following

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071HBDDW8

Hardened glass screen protector

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01DA2OMKS

Water and dust Resistant keyboard cover to give an extra step against a drop of water penetrating the keyboard and ruining the motherboard underneath.

It should be noted that I do not get paid for any of these items, you'll notice none of them are links to a compensated account somewhere.

I just like dell products and have had good experiences with them. This is just another case of a product that I think is great and worth the money.

Since you have the laptop here are a few accessories I've used and like.
This is underwatt (xps wants 45) but still accepted (min 29 watt) It will charge more slowly compared to the standard chargers, the trade off is slow charge=less battery wear. So for an end of the day plug it in and leave it, its perfect.
Anker 30 watt charger

This is a newer company. Both the battery and wall charger I received were very well packaged, built, and form factored. It charges at full speed 45 watt, ideal for on the go.
dodocool 20100mAh 45W PD Portable Charger

I tested two of these magnetic usb C PD charging cables, this one is much better designed. It works as well as the new gen apple magsafe adapter and its reversible.
Breaksafe Cable

This works well with that /\ also surprisingly hard to find good usb c couplers or extensions.
USB-C Extension Cable

Finally this thing that i begrudgingly love. The XPS screen and keyboard like to smush against each other in my bag, marking the display. I've heard stories of scratching the panel. This protector has eliminated that, protects it from dust/liquid and its quieter to type on. The adhesive it comes with is garbage and the softer keys take a second to get used to.

I have just bought an XPS13 9360 lap top from Dell. My son "checked" before I purchased and thought it had a VGA slot (one of my requirements - I ought to have double checked) but it does not (and I bought it to show slides at client offices and hotels which often have very old projector machines and to use on holiday)....

Thankfully despite reading worrying posts on various plcaes I bought a fairly cheap USB Type C to VGA adapter on Amazon which says "thunderbold 3 port compatible" and that DOES work on a first try at home on a projector ( a "screeneo" device, with VGA slot). I will need to try it with older projectors but am hopeful.
I bought:-
Cable Matters USB 3.1 Type C (USB-C & Thunderbolt 3 Port Compatible) to VGA Adapter in Black (up to 720p on Lumia 950/950XL) - https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00X4S58LQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
(UK pounds 19.99)

I bought a second different brand of VGA adapter too which I will take to the next talk just in case as a back up (but have not bothered to try as the one above works so far
My back up is https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01CY6K81S/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 UK £12.99.

I deliberately did not buy a combined one with HDMI to keep things simple and after researching this on line.
I also bought an ethernet adapter originally too when I bought the lap top as I am often in hotels which don't have wifi. I wish manufacturers would remember most of us in the real world are not always in places where hotels, conference centres, clients have the latest tech and we need lots of the old fashioned stuff too. The ethernet adapter works really well and fast from my home connection.

So that leaves HDMI which I don't often use but can sort out in due course but will be an important issue for those who use their lap top to watch on the TV which is very common these days.

I did not buy any Dell adapter (100 or 200) not because of cost but because on the Dell website it does not actually give a compatible adapter for the 9360. I think that is bad practice. To sell a machine saying it is VGA compatible but not to recommend which adapter to buy suggests Dell is not sure that there is one compatible with it. In fact it would be better if their webpage advertising the lap top said it does not have the following slots...... as many of us replacing lap tops are looking for the HDMI slot, VGA slot, ethernet slot - none of which come with it. It also does not have a CD Rom drive. It just seems to me lap tops have fewer and fewer of the features we need and it has nothing like enough slots for me to plug all this stuff in including the mouse I always use, the memory stick the slides are on etc etc. I expect I will get used to it and we can always keep buying adapters and extenders.

Anyway apart from that it is really good and the £19.99 VGA adapter which so far seems to work sounds like the right solution.

My moment of truth will be when I go to the next conference as speaker and am trying to link it to some 15 year old hotel projector and hopefully the adapter will still work.....

Apex on battery.

I have all Dell and Intel software enabled and up to date except for Dell Support Assist(unistalled because it was re-installing SmartByte), SmartByte, Killer Network and Rivet services are all stopped and disabled.

CPU/GPU was re-pasted with this.

Current CPU UV, your mileage may vary.

GPU OC/UV @0.700mV, 2nd lowest performance state.

GPU OC/UV Highest Performance State @0.813mV, it says @1733mhz but in reality GPU sits @1721mhz, this will greatly reduce GPU temps and since the heatsink is shared that includes the CPU as well.

Extra Sauce when playing plugged. Helps with random shutdowns and BSODs.

At all times even on battery, my own preference.

This is all on the latest BIOS, i've always updated it.

My max CPU temps hover between low 80c to mid 70's depending on game while the CPU sits @3.9GHz and GPU barely hits 72c at a room temp of ~34c. Tropical humid weather may simulate yours since you are indian?(wild guess sorry if your not and it's offensive D:).

Bonus round:

My laptop came with the AUO panel and it's OC'ed to 108hz LCD Reduced.

I barely use the Realtek's sound drivers, mainly use a wireless headset and bluetooth for speakers, to cope with the DPC latency issues.

Download HWInfo64 and keep an eye on the m.2 ssd and the PCH temp. Those can alter performance plugged or unplugged.

m.2 ssd heatsink link if needed.

This is not necessary but i had to do this, Dell's fault. MAY VOID WARRANTY.

If i can help with anything else, lemme know.

Edit: some fixes and clarity.

  1.

    I recommend:

  • Dell Premier Display for the color profiles, and the screen overlays while dragging apps that add an extra layer of app window auto-sizing. Do note you might have issues with automatic color profile changes during Netflix and other fast color-changing media playback, which I have yet to solve even after browsing the web and attempting suggested solutions
  • Dell Connect as it brings something that even Google or Vysor have yet to achieve - seamless smartphone integration. It's tantalizing that Dell has the best phone connectivity app around. The fact I am suggesting in keeping it, to what would otherwise be factory crapware, goes to show how good it performs
  • DO NOT INSTALL BIOS 1.3.X+ unless you want to lose S3 sleep forever. thank M$ for that one.
  • Dell Power Manager (or whatever it's called) is essential for achieving the best performance on fans and some components (CPU/GPU/Memory), and the opposite too if you want the chillest, quietest setup, which is unfortunate from Dell to not let the OS take control from. MAX and MIN fan RPM are only achieved through settings on this utility
  • Every other driver/utility you can stay away from. Dell SupportAssist is nice for checking service tag and other data on the screen, but you can do that a number of other ways. Submitting suppor tickets by phone is preferred IMHO. Dell digital Delivery and Dell update are useless, and so is everything else not mentioned
  • all other drivers, either let Windows decide or go to each individual device OEM support page and install what you think might have more impact (I suggest Killer for Wifi, LAN for whatever is in your hub, Nvidia for the dGPU, Chipset drivers and iGPU from Intel.

    2 .

Do these two (Dell BIST) tests (Dell ePSA). Also run your benchmark of choice (I suggest Unigine Superposition) while running HWInfo and see your Avg. and MAX, temperatures for CPU/GPU, SSD and Dell Chassis components (you need to allow extra sensors on HWInfo), and check throttling flags too. No matter the results, I recommend installing Throttlestop, disabling Turbo Boost for the profile you will be using most, and getting comfortable with its usage, and setting it up to launch at user logon (using Task Scheduler) A repaste might also help, and the same goes for undervolting (either with TS or Intel XTU). Some people are also adding thermal pads to VRM's either to the chassis or to the heatsink (better) for avoiding VRM reaching 100's. This used to be more relevant to 9560/9550, and I am not sure of its benefits on the 9570. If you need help with TS, message me.

I suggest setting these up on BIOS: "Force S3 sleep", F7 key for "no emissions mode", half brightness on battery and do a solid checkup of whatever you feel is better for you on the extensive optionned BIOS that Dell supplies. Once again, do not install 1.3.X+!

    3.

I would advise on a USB 3.0 Type A hub with 3- 4 USB 3.0 Type A ports and Gbit LAN like this (I have this, but apparently it went away from all amazon stores since I bought it last month).

Using this kind of dongle has 4 advantages vs dock and USB-C/TB3 dongles:

  • does not take away the single USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 port
  • doubles Type A ports from the original 2 (since you have to use one, a 3 USB hub effectively adds 2)
  • has GBit LAN
  • it's a lot cheaper and more portable than the TB3 swiss army-type dongles available everywhere, and you can always carry an extra TB3 to DP/mDP cable, if HDMI won't suit your display needs

From extensive testing, my Anker hub's LAN port (and likely the new model I suggest) doesn't seem hampered by USB port usage as some report, nor does LAN usage degrades USB devices. I manage ~90mbps on LAN downloading Win 10 from MS servers while simulstaneously doing and external HDD file transfer at around 30mbps (almost the HDD cap for the type of data I was using). My network cap is 100'sh mbps to the WWW. I still suggest using the 3 ports on this for KB/Mouse and maybe a device that isn't constantly using high data, since you're already using this for LAN. Just use the other XPS USB port (or TB3) for higher performance stuff instead. I also had no shielding problems as many users reported for my model.

If you're going for actual >1Gbps (10Gbit) performance on the LAN, I would rather suggest you look up dedicated high-performance TB3 LAN hardware such as this. But at present, that will certainly make you lose the TB3 port as there is no LAN solution with display options that performs as well as dedicated, single port LAN over TB3. But I'm sure if you need that kind of performance you wont care much for having to drive displays through HDMI and USB3 alone. Or you could buy an external PCI-E TB3 enclosure and add a PCI-E lan card for cheaper than the Sonnet I suggest.

    4.

About WiFi: I got an Intel 8265 replacement after EXTENSIVE complaints to CS on why my bluetooth devices would degrade WiFi N router speeds to 1/3 or worse (and also made BT devices stutter), and my results, unfortunately, are that the Intel card has exactly the same issues. I blame either the XPS's antenna placement, metal build or bad shielding affecting the way it interacts with other 2.4ghz technoliges, because I haven't noticed this in my other WiFi N-bound laptops and smartphones on the same router/network.

Have done exactly what you are asking.

I am typing this on the lowest end 9570 (refurbished Dell Outlet) with an upgraded SSD and 97whr battery.

These are the exact parts and where I got them:

You will have to take out the HDD to put in the bigger battery. You may also need to change BIOS settings to get the best SSD performance.

You will need a special screw driver to open the case, use the biggest one that will fit and remember rigthty tightly lefty lucey. :)

Older Thunderbolt 1 and 2 devices, such as those designed for Apple Mac products, would need an adapter to work with Thunderbolt 3, since Thunderbolt 1 and 2 used Mini DisplayPort (mDP) ports while Thunderbolt 3 switched to USB Type-C.

From slowest to fastest, you have:

  • 480 Mbits/s: USB 2.0
  • 5 Gbits/s: USB 3.0 (aka "USB 3.1 Gen 1", confusingly)
  • 10 Gbits/s: USB 3.1 Gen 2 (aka true USB 3.1)
  • 40 Gbits/s: Thunderbolt 3

That's for speed. For the shape of the plug, you can either have USB Type-A (traditional USB shape) or Type-C (the new shape). There's not necessarily any connection between the shape of the plug and speed, though on the XPS 15 9550 the only Type-C port is a Thunderbolt 3 / USB 3.1 Gen 2 port, while the other Type-A ports are USB 3.0. The new MacBook and Chromebook Pixel have USB 3.1 Gen 1 (equivalent to USB 3.0 speed) Type-C ports, while many smartphones coming out with Type-C ports are still working at USB 2.0 speeds.

USB 3.0 or above would be preferable, so that gigabit Ethernet is supported. You can get one that uses the Type-C port if you want, but it will still work at the same speed (USB 3.0) as the normal Type-A version. Adapters that take advantage of USB 3.1, much less Thunderbolt 3, are still rather rare. In any case, using Thunderbolt 3 just for Ethernet would be overkill: better to save the Thunderbolt 3 port for a full-scale dock or an external graphics card.

    So, enough background. Some options:

  • AmazonBasics USB 3.0 to 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet Adapter ($16.95)
  • Anker Unibody Aluminum 3-Port USB 3.0 and Gigabit Ethernet Hub ($26.99)
  • Anker USB-C to 3-Port USB 3.0 Hub with Ethernet Adapter for USB Type-C Devices ($27.99)

The two Anker devices also include a three port USB 3.0 hub, for connecting other stuff.

  1. Remove all Killers wifi drivers & then install the latest Intel wifi driver. Very easy, 3 minutes top.
  2. Get the Grizzy thermal paste, open the back of the laptop, clean & repaste the CPU thermal.
  3. Install ThrottleStop, undervolt to the max amount on all. Guide here.
  4. Install Dell Updates app. This will scan your laptop and update any drivers all at once.
  5. Run Windows update utility. Start button, then select Settings \> Update & Security  > Windows Update.
  6. Sleep issue. This is not cause by Dell but Microsoft as a whole for Windows 10. Google the keyword: "connected standby" for more info. Basically when you close the laptop for it to sleep, it keeps background connection active to get updates for Windows, causing battery drain and sometimes, keeping the computer on even when the lid is closed. Work around: 1) Registry fix. 2) Change from Sleep to Hibernate in the Power setting. This is much better and has 0 drain at all. Lots of people do this on here.
  7. Enjoy it!

I have the same model only I paid a little less. The gaming experience is like night and day I swear it feels like a brand new laptop. The colors are much better and the screen is more vibrant, you can tell this is a high quality display. Oh and another thing I forgot to mention is that you will have to set a custom resolution to 120hz using the CRU (custom resolution utility) because the Intel custom resolution tool doesn't work. Just set it to 1080p 120hz, reboot, and you'll never have to touch it again. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CWSWX4Q/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_tRMTCbEG5GADH

I used this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01FH3OUSC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It makes the whites look a little rainbowy when you get really close but other than that I think it's great. It can be a little tricky to install since the fit is so precise though. I can upload photos if you want.

I installed this panel. There are youtube videos with instructions. Basically you carefully pry the bezzle off, undo 4 small screws, and undo a connector. Reverse those steps with the new panel and boom, you've got a 120hz panel with 8-bit color depth and much higher brightness. I would highly recommend, the factory panels on these things are garbage unless you lucked out and got an AUO panel instead of the normal LG panel.

u/IntrepidHour · 1 pointr/Dell

I heard this one is good. $63. 120 hz. Better colors, but its a TN panel so viewing angles are worse than an IPS panel. I heard that this one lets you change brightness, but not sure. 300 nits which I'd certainly appreciate since mine (2018) is below 250 nits.

https://www.amazon.com/Screen-Display-N156HHE-GA1-7RG-078US-Leopard/dp/B07CWSWX4Q/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1548253476&sr=8-2&keywords=N156HHE-GA1#customerReviews

Your main choices seem to be the Chi Mei N156HHE-GA1 Panel which is what I just mentioned above. Or the AUO B156HTN05.2 Panel which has no brightness control, worse colors, is difficult to find, also a TN panel. It goes up to 400 nits which is nice, but again you can't turn in down. At night 250 nits can be a lot so unless I was using it only during the day I'd go with the Chi Mei.

Comparison.

Unfortunately I have not seen a 120 hz IPS panel for the Dell G7. Otherwise I would've replaced it myself ages ago. Hopefully another commentor know about one, but for now those are your options.

I went with Initek 14 in because I wanted to be able to slide the PC in and out when the sleeve is in my backpack when traveling. To be honest it is a little tight sliding it in and out with just the "side" open, but it works. As a plus, the sleeve is good on its own if I just want to just take my laptop to a coffee shop.

I use this in my 9550. It goes in a little PAST flush, but I looped a piece of clear tape on it to create a flexible pull tab. I've used it for a little over a year now with no issues. I carry the laptop daily so it gets pulled in and out of my backpack daily.

Good evening bud,

I had the same issues last week. 3D Mark Time Spy would never finish. The computer would restart every time on test number 2. I used hwinfo64 to monitor the temperatures which were close to 100C.

Bought https://www.amazon.co.uk/Thermal-Grizzly-Kryonaut-Compound-Compounds/dp/B011F7W3LU/ref=sr_1_17?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1526925000&sr=1-17&keywords=thermal+paste, repasted, and issue was fixed. Max temperature now is 86C.

Give it a try. You won't void your warranty, unless you damage a part. If you can't do it on your own, call the tech support and ask a technician to do it. Be sure to supply them with your own thermal compound and not let them apply a ton of it.

I bought this one for my 9350 and it's perfectly flush:

Probably cheaper/easier to buy 2 cables.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00X4S5C7G/

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00X4S58LQ

There are cheaper adapters than these 2, but these seem good quality.

Those thermal pads are good by arctic and non conductive so they should work fine.

I took a leap of faith and got this, even though it's made for the 9000 series

It fits the 7590 just fine.

From what I've read, any 14" laptop sleeve will work. FWIW I bought [this one] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00XJBDM98/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1), I heard the Amazonbasics sleeve is good too.

Thanks, man. I ended up getting this one yesterday, which seems to be the same thing:

I just ordered this one, and it should be coming in tomorrow. I'll check back in when I get it and let you know how it fits and feels. My dog sheds all year round and got tons of fur under the keys of my last laptop. Hoping to keep this one clean.

u/gmanyy · 1 pointr/Dell

And why would you get this if you could get two of these - https://amazon.com/-/dp/B07N124XDS/ they are the same sticks and they worked perfectly in my XPS 15

Edit: am dumb, this is an Australian link. Still, would probably be cheaper to import from the US Amazon.

Hi, no, I never tried charging via usb type c. You need some usb type c charger:

https://www.amazon.com/Dell-130W-Type-Adapter-Compatible/dp/B07FJ76DCN

Always take a careful look what wattage the charger is able to output. There are various 45W or 60W chargers, but it won't be sufficient to charge your laptop while in use, since our laptop might draw more power than charger is able to provide. Of course it should work fine if laptop is powered off or idle.

You can get a sneak peak of the pricing on amazon's page for XPS 13:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B019TTJ80K/

For me, the important bits are how they are priced relative to the non-Iris builds.

Amazon claims to have 32GB DDR4 singles for $150: Samsung 32GB DDR4 2666MHz RAM Memory Module for Laptop Computers (260 Pin SODIMM, 1.2V) M471A4G43MB1 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07N124XDS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_xsVoDbV5P9833

I asked today at a Microsoft Store and they didn't know. Although I did find the i7-6560u, 8GB, 256GB version on Amazon and it claims to have the Microsoft Signature install of Windows on it. http://www.amazon.com/Dell-XPS9350-5341SLV-Touchscreen-Microsoft-Signature/dp/B019TTJ80K/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1457668885&sr=8-2&keywords=6560u

You could try the Dell WD15 - no thunderbolt ports but they have HDMI ports.

There's also this one which I've seen recommended around the sub as a replacement to the TB 15.

u/Fwank49 · 1 pointr/Dell

That won't work, since the XPS models lack a Mini DisplayPort connector, you would need something like https://www.amazon.ca/Plugable-Chromebook-ThunderboltTM-Supports-3840x2160/dp/B01FIVSC6Y/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1485650405&sr=1-3&keywords=usb+c+to+hdmi+2 this, since it's thunderbolt port uses a USB Type C Connector.

I actually got it from Amazon. Ordered it last Friday and quickly noticed that it was pulled. Not sure if it's a inventory problem, because the device certainly works. I'm on day 2 without a single issue.

Alternatively, they have a single display version for users that won't ever need more than the standard extended display.

I just bought this, I will let you know if it fits when I get it

u/hmaarrfk · 1 pointr/Dell

Basically and MacBook pro 15 inch case will do.

I got this one, but the side padding is almost non existent, which I was kinda looking for.

I've read Feb 2nd somewhere, but not sure. I have this this in my wishlist waiting to pull the trigger. It doesn't show any release date on the product page yet.

I also use Ubuntu 18.04. Replace the wifi card with the following as I had bad experience with a similar killer wifi card.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B079QH5KW1/

Intel Wireless-Ac 9260 works perfectly in ubuntu.

this is what i used

yeah i used an external monitor but the laptop lid was open. I have never tried playing on the laptop screen its too small for me lol i have bad eyes. your fans are turning on to keep the surface temps of your laptop cool. its controlled by the intel process.

if your goal is too keep the fans from turning on during low usage, this mod will actually make your fans turn on more due to the surface temps raising. you could always apply the thermal pad mod and turn off intel dptf but i dont think its worth it if your only problem is your fans turning on. I see this mod as a last resort to VRM overheating.

this is strictly for dispersing heat from the VRM and chokes to the chassis to prevent VRM overheat during 100% GPU usage which will require a lot of fan use.

u/FishPotatoWalrus · 1 pointr/Dell

>How bad is the screen glare? Is it bad enough not to get it?

Possibly moot. If the glossy screen was a problem, you can just get a matte screen protector (this kind of thing) for $10-20.

u/RocketSquidFPV · 1 pointr/Dell

Shitty Killer card is shitty. Spend 11$ on an Intel 9620.

Intel Wireless-Ac 9260, 2230, 2X2 Ac+Bt, Gigabit, No Vpro https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079QH5KW1/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_pXznDbVDQEF8Y

Have just ordered this, I will let you know what I think. According to everyone else, this fixes the problem.
