I may be of some help. I was in the same position as you a couple months ago.

First you have to decide, wired or wireless.

Wireless: A lot people suggest the ps gold headset ($100). As a gaming headset, they're decent but from what I've read, the sound quality is not great. If all you do is plan to play games with it and you don't care all that much about sound quality then this may be your best wireless option. A better wireless option would be the Astro A50. Reviews seem to say that the sound quality on the A50 is pretty good but this comes at a much higher price ($300 new, $200 refurbished). SteelSeries also makes a good wireless option at the same price point of the Astro.

Wired: If you go on head-fi, everyone will say the best option would be to buy a decent dedicated full-size headphones(price here depends on budget), a separate mic, and something like this to connect to your controller. This is true but I didn't like this option. Having two cables going my controller to my head seemed like a bit of a hassle and I wanted as few wires as possible. I wanted a quality wireless setup, but I couldn't justify spending $300 for a setup I'd only use to game.

I did find the V-Moda boom pro which would replace the cord on their headphone's with an in-line boom mic thus eliminating one more wire. Paired it up with the V-Moda M80(You should be able to use it with anything form the vmoda line, but don't hold me to that, you should be able to find out yourself easily), which to my surprise got great reviews on head-fi. I bought them for around 80 on an amazon lightning deal. They're pretty good, especially considering the whole setup cost ~$100. Build quality is very high, sound quality is good, a little bass heavy IMO but that is perfect for gaming. I also wouldn't mind taking these out with me on the colder months as they're not too bulky. They also come with a pretty cool carrying case.

I'm very happy with this setup now and I think the next step up from here would be to get a wireless setup.

Hope this helps.

Source: I do have quite an extensive headphone collection so I do appreciate a good set of cans.

There aren't any solid solutions that will be both device agnostic and inexpensive, unfortunately. If you end up sticking with the X360, my favorite has been the XBox 360 Wireless Headset. Alternatively I had an extra set of Plantronics M Series earloop and eartips that I stuck onto the 'set and I find them to be much more comfortable / better at remaining in place. In all, with the optional kit, can run you from $25-$40 (sometimes you'll find a dirt cheap sale on the communicators somewhere, especially for like the MW3 edition). Personally I wouldn't go any higher in cost for an X360 solution, unless you go full-blown with an Astro Mixamp Pro and a favorite, high quality headset (expect to spend anywhere from $200-$500 altogether, or higher if you go really nuts).

A solid, dollar for dollar, PC / PS4 solution would be to get the SteelSeries v2 paired with an adapter like this ($60-$80 solution, depending). The DS4 has a 3.5mm jack that will support in-game sound as well as chat. The downside to it is it's a little underpowered. A lot of people don't have issues with it, but I'm rather picky. Thankfully the SteelSeries v2 only has a 32 Ohm impedance and an accompanying low-ish sensitivity level. So they don't take much to drive, but still -- to me the sounds for anything on the DS4 are a little muddy. To forego it, you would need to spend a little more money. Next step up, which works great for the PS4, would be the Sony Wireless Gold for around $80, but while it's a great solution for the PS4 I find it subpar on the PC. To get better sound out of the PS4 you would have to go the Astro Mixamp Pro route.

For PS4 you could also go the opposite direction in pricing and get the $12 PS Vita Earbuds and just shove those in the DS4 jack. While still an inline mic (will be picking up a lot of ambient noise) these are far better than what you can get out of the packaged earbud / mic with the PS4. If your soundcard doesn't support mic input via the headphone jack and only has the separate 3.5mm, can always use another adapter that goes in the reverse. Or just simply save up for a different headset for PC.

Haha, I feel you-- I do miss the days when a console was a console and you didn't have to worry about customizing it to improve performance.

Here's the drive and the external enclosure I'm using, total $59.98:

Original link (see edit below; might not want to get this one): https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-240GB-Solid-State-SDSSDA-240G-G26/dp/B01F9G43WU/ref=sr_1_6?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1537193290&sr=1-6&keywords=250gb+ssd

Better link (Samsung, $8 more): https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-250GB-Internal-MZ-76E250B-AM/dp/B07864WMK8/ref=sr_1_3?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1537193972&sr=1-3&keywords=250gb+ssd

https://www.amazon.com/UGREEN-External-Enclosure-Adapter-Housing/dp/B06XWRRMYX/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1537193304&sr=8-4&keywords=external+enclosure+2.5

There are better SSD drives that that one, but the PS4 OS is not optimized for SSD so other people's tests show the better drives aren't any faster than lower-end drives. If you're buying one for a PC, then you might want to spring for a Samsung or something, but it's not necessary on PS4.

Edit: Ah, wait, that's not the exact same drive I'm using. Mine is listed as 250GB. This one is listed as 240GB. I think the minimum PS4 can use externally is 250GB. I know there's funny business in hard drive capacities due to the next step of bytes being 1024, not an even 1000, but I don't know if it would make this 240GB not meet PS4's "250" requirement or not. Might want to go with something explicitly 250GB to be safe.

Edit 2: Wow, Amazon actually has the Samsung brand 250GB for only $57 on sale today. I added that link if anyone's interested.

u/RaxZergling · 10 pointsr/DestinyTheGame

I bought this back in 2013 on a super sale (it was like $80) in preparation for moving my main computer over (currently 80gb SATA2 SSD for essentially the OS). Turns out I am lazy and never did it so this drive was literally empty in my case for 5 years lol.

I bought this this week to get it hooked up to the xbox. Took all of 5 minutes of painless setup and about and hour while I prepped dinner to transfer. I've already easily saved that time in loading screens.

It's worth it, I'm definitely happy. Be sure you get at least a 256GB SSD (xbox requirement).

u/Gomerpyle80 · 1 pointr/DestinyTheGame

I bought the PS Gold Wireless Headset and it has been awesome - the one thing is figure out if you like the virtual surround sound or not. I really don't some people do. My favorite setting is the default bass boost #2 on the switch. Do not create your own profile and max the bass thinking it will boom-- it is too much for them and it will sound bad. - When I am not playing I hook it up to my Wii or my ps4 to have it charged up next time..

Also - yes it comes with a cable so you can use it direct connect to the controller if the battery dies.

Look for deals - I got mine for $60 new

Edit - also for a super cheap quality ear plug headset get the ones made for the ps vita.. they work great on the PS4 as well

u/SkywalkerJade · 2 pointsr/DestinyTheGame

If you need recommendations, These are the exact ones I purchased, but basically just look for good price and decent ratings on amazon. Make sure to get a good usb 3.0 enclosure too, if you didn’t know that already, ssd’s won’t come with a way to connect to USB already in the box.

enclosure

ssd

Edit: looks like I was off by $3. The total is about $43 (before tax, prime shipping).

u/thexawakening · 1 pointr/DestinyTheGame

Yeah that's pretty much it. Just make sure it's USB 3.0.

For reference I bought this SSD https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071KGRXRG?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

And put it into this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XWRRMYX?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Note: You can just get an external SSD and be good. I only went the route I did cause it was cheap for a lot of storage. Still works like a champ.

u/zildjianate · 1 pointr/DestinyTheGame

Here is the best external SSD from a reputable company (ADATA) for a good price that I've found after browsing Amazon for a few minutes. 256 GB is more than enough to hold D2 with all expansions and it's only $62. You won't even need to buy an enclosure for it like some of the other recommendations for internal SSDs, just plug, transfer, and play!
https://www.amazon.com/ADATA-USB3-1-Ultra-Speed-External-ASD600-256GU31-CBK/dp/B06XRT23D5/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1537219323&sr=1-2&keywords=external%2Bssd&refinements=p_72%3A1248879011%2Cp_n_feature_three_browse-bin%3A14027458011&th=1

u/Not_enough_yuri · 2 pointsr/DestinyTheGame

The headphones and mic? The easiest way to do it is by using something like this to combine the signals from the mic and the headphones and plug it into either your PS4 controller or X1 chat adapter. In the case of headphones like the Philips X1 that use a 3.5mm input (you plug one of these into the headphones), you can use this, which automatically combines the audio output and mic input signal. Once again though, that doesn't really matter as of now. TL;DR: Use an adaper to combine the mic and headphone jacks and plug them into your controller, piece of cake. If you want more info, you can check out /r/headphones and ask some questions there. We're generally a nice community :)

u/chickendenchers · 1 pointr/DestinyTheGame

SSD: Samsung 860 EVO 250GB 2.5... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07864WMK8?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf

Case (comes with cable): UGREEN External Hard Drive... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XWRRMYX?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf

Case lights up when powered.

I plugged mine into the usb slot in the back of my PS4 Pro (I think normal has one too). Works like a charm. Game loads before the primary theme finishes, and in-game menus and planets/zones load substantially quicker (but not instantly, still some wait).

Worth the ~$60 when you think of the cumulative hours saved on even just sifting through menus.

NOTE: I have noticed a bug that crops up now from loading “warp” too quickly. The “takeoff” animation will run without my ship following (just camera), causing the game to take a few beats on a black screen before loading the “warp” part of the load screen. It’s not a big deal, just wait a few moments and everything goes back to being its normal, speedy self :)

u/celestiaequestria · 1 pointr/DestinyTheGame

The PS4 controller uses a 4-pin 3.5mm connector. You can get an adapter for $6 that will break this out into a standard stereo headphone jack and a microphone jack, which will let you use a standard PC gaming headset, or separate headphones and microphone.

Here's the splitter:
http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-MUYHSMFF-Headset-Splitter-Adapter/dp/B004SP0WAQ/r

Then you can use literally any pair of headphones and microphone, or PC headset (non-USB). For example:
http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Stereo-Headset-H150-Cloud/dp/B005DKZTNK/

Obviously some of the ultra-nice headsets like the Astros sound well, like you'd expect something that costs hundreds of dollars to sound, but you can find "middle ground" headsets that are good enough.

If you want game audio coming through the headphones, make sure to set it in the audio options on your PS4!

u/hSix-Kenophobia · 2 pointsr/DestinyTheGame

This was an excellent find. I went and even ordered myself ones. Thanks for sharing! I also included a quick link to the Amazon.com reseller link.

u/LuckyNumb3rSeven · 1 pointr/DestinyTheGame

Your best bet is probably to find a discounted TTK Legendary Edition to go with your code, since I believe you can't play it without TTK and you definitely can't without the base game. Here's one I found for only $26.

EDIT: If your question is that can you buy RoI on its own on xbox one if you already own destiny and all the DLCs, then the answer is yes.

u/Dark_Tlaloc · 4 pointsr/DestinyTheGame

I mentioned to another poster that I don't want to recommend a specific one since I'm not really super savvy about the latest SSD tech, but:

  1. the big brands should be good (Samsung, Western Digital, etc.) and 2) if you don't mind small capacity and a little risk, you can do something like this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XRT23D5/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

    (that's what I got)

I usually would make sure the SSD has a fair amount of reviews and more than a 4* rating. Personally at $40, I was willing to take a risk that this was a crappy SSD, since it's mostly for Destiny anyway.
u/ACESandElGHTS · 1 pointr/DestinyTheGame

This guy has on-and-off been sold for $40 (typically $55-$60) and is the best off-the-rack set of wireless 'phones for the money. The cord you see plugs into the XBone controller. Good stuff really.

Not quite the sound odyssey of those Turtle Beaches but for the econo player they're nice.

u/bigd5783 · 1 pointr/DestinyTheGame

LOL! I have EVERY Destiny Mega Bloks set available to date along with 6 multiples of the two sparrow kits that come with a captain and a shank. I will have to remember to take a picture when I get home. And yes. Slippery slope indeed. I already preordered the new $200 Cabal dropship that comes out next month.

u/Waldo42 · 1 pointr/DestinyTheGame

Have you considered an ethernet power line kit?

I know lots of people swear by them. Can be a great solution. Can't vouch for this exact model, just pulling a link as an example: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00AWRUICG?cache=f3df3ca8d37cd422144d765e1d2b5795&pi=SX200_QL40&qid=1406631768&sr=8-1#ref=mp_s_a_1_1

Also I believe you can listen to it on Spotify as well.

u/SlothGSR · 1 pointr/DestinyTheGame

Think you can buy TTK for cheap now which includes everything. Now is great time to buy it. You should be fully leveled up before RoI drops.

edit: $30 on amazon. https://smile.amazon.com/Destiny-Taken-King-Legendary-Xbox-One/dp/B00ZJ211Q6/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1468846221&sr=1-1&keywords=destiny+xbox+one

u/MilitaryThyme · 3 pointsr/DestinyTheGame

Sure i'd be down! Although you can find it on Amazon here if you want i can ship it from Amazon to you in trade for the posters.

u/rsbresny · 1 pointr/DestinyTheGame

Not trying to get involved in all the poop throwing in the comments, but Powerline Adapters. Give it a try, might make things better for everyone involved - cheap too.

I bought this https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01F9G46Q8 and https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00HJZJI84
the UASP is the important bit for utilising the speed of the ssd.
I also did a full ntfs format of it on my pc and checked if the firmware needed updating before I plugged it in my xbox1 reformatting and copying the games over, hope this helps, John

u/mythosaz · 2 pointsr/DestinyTheGame

If he's on an older non-X XBox One, for about $80 you can get him an external SSD that'll vastly improve his load times and menu responsiveness.

If his current chat equipment is "meh" you can get him a much nicer headset.

The Mega Bloks (or Mega Construx) Destiny sets are a hoot to build and make for nice pieces if he's into curios. There's lots of little ones, but the Fallen Walker is one of the cool bigger ones.
https://www.amazon.com/Mega-Bloks-Destiny-Fallen-Walker/dp/B01ARGB8GG

u/JoinTheBattle · 5 pointsr/DestinyTheGame

Alternatively, if he already has decent non-gaming headphones that he finds comfortable, you could get him the BoomPro mic by V-MODA. It will transform any headphones into gaming headphones for about $30.

u/rubBeaurdawg · 2 pointsr/DestinyTheGame

Less expensive at Amazon, even after the crimsondays discount. Even better with Amazon's free shipping compared to Bungie's absolutely terrible rates.

u/BerserkRonin · 1 pointr/DestinyTheGame

Alright so last question.

Is this and this from amazon or a separate company and how would I know?

u/SMB73 · 2 pointsr/DestinyTheGame

I'm really hoping for a Art of Destiny 2 HC. I try to always pick these up when published by Bungie.

Edit: Shit, never mind. There is one already

u/moresadnods · 1 pointr/DestinyTheGame

Yeah, here is the one I got on Amazon.

u/imitebmike · 1 pointr/DestinyTheGame

Oh, i think you can find the legendary edition (contains everything you need to be up to date, vanilla game + 3 DLCs) of the game for around 40 now (or even less) due to the holiday sales

although that would be physical copy and delivery during this time period dont tend to be great...

http://www.amazon.com/Destiny-Taken-King-Legendary-Xbox-One/dp/B00ZJ211Q6/ref=sr_1_1_twi_sof_2_twi_gam_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1450690737&sr=8-1&keywords=destiny

u/dreadpiratej · 1 pointr/DestinyTheGame

I got the expansion but this "support bungie" kind of doesn't work here in the UK when they openly rip us off with the DLC charging us £19.99/$30.89 for TDB. £34.99\$54.89 for the Season Pass. Not exactly something that should be supported.

Anyone considering the game in the UK go to Amazon for the limited edition and get the game and season pass for £39.99 and don't be ripped off with the season pass & DLC prices.

TP-Link AV600 Nano Powerline Adapter

Not as good as true Cat-5 cable direct to the modem, but better than WiFi with minimal latency/packet loss.

u/north7 · 2 pointsr/DestinyTheGame

I did this too and it's night and day.
You will not regret it.
Just get a decent 256gb ssd (make sure it's 256 and not 250 or 240), and an enclosure and you're good.

Just to clarify, all standalone editions of the game get this early access. This info is also showing on the base game, but not yet on the bundle. No telling whether or not it will be added to the bundle (here's hoping, though).

For anyone looking. I went to the Bungie store to buy one and the shipping was 18 bucks alone. Went on Amazon and found this one which says it will be available Oct 4th. for $10. just FYI.

u/j_fuze · 1 pointr/DestinyTheGame

This cable is probably the best/most low profile option.http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HJZJI84?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00

Keep in mind that an SSD won't make a huge difference in situations like Crucible as you're still waiting on all the other players before the match starts, but it does make a substantial difference loading into any other activity, especially when you're solo.

u/FlexibleCloud · 1 pointr/DestinyTheGame

I'd say your best bet is to just buy The Taken King: Legendary Edition. It comes with the base game, expansions I & II, and The Taken King.

It's only $32.99 on Amazon right now!

It's cheaper than buying everything separate, because, sadly, you will have to re-buy expansions I & II since they no longer carry-over to Xbox One.

u/Vartemis · 3 pointsr/DestinyTheGame

I have done the same. For anybody trying to do so, just buy these 2 items off of amazon:

Samsung 860 EVO 250GB 2.5 Inch SATA... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07864WMK8?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf

ORICO USB3.0 to SATA III 2.5"... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M08LCXW?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf

Those links contain everything you need. Once you have them, connect it to your xbox and transfer destiny to the ssd from the internal storage and you're done.

u/RunBoston · 1 pointr/DestinyTheGame

Not on BungieStore.com, but it's listed for Preorder on Amazon for $27 instead of $45, listed for release on November 28: https://www.amazon.com/Art-Destiny-2-Bungie/dp/168383111X/

u/BlitzKraig1 · 1 pointr/DestinyTheGame

Yeah it does sound like the splitter is the issue, I managed to find a few other people with the same problem and they fixed it by messing with audio settings, which didn't do anything for me. So it must be this thing. Kinda a long shot, but any suggestions for one? I got this one because it got decent reviews, but I guess it wasn't compatible with PS4.

u/m477z0r · 2 pointsr/DestinyTheGame

You definitely can plug in any old SSD. I'm connecting my old Samsung EVO 840 to my Xbox via a USB 3.0 to SATA adapter and some duct tape.

I haven't gone out of my way to do any timed testing, but anecdotally my buddies and clanmates all notice that I load in considerably faster than they do.

u/sudosudash · 3 pointsr/DestinyTheGame

Not quite sure I follow. I bought this with an enclosure, so it’s used externally. You just plug it into your XB, format it (it walks you thru this as soon as you plug it in) and then just transfer the game over.

Edit: read your edit. Yeah, you need to buy an enclosure. I bought this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XWRRMYX/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_2n7PBb6VZR5NY

I mean, I'm not trying to be insensitive to people's financial statuses but it was $60. If someone can afford an Xbox One, plus Destiny and all the expansion costs I don't think the SSD is going to be the make or break factor.

It's an official headset.

Yesterday I was playing a mission with my headset plugged in and halfway through the mission (my first one after undocking the controller from the charger), my controller disconnects from the game in the middle of a firefight due to the battery dying. My character ended up getting killed - my first solo pve death. I was sad.

Maybe it didn't dock right on the cradle and wasn't actually fully charged. I didn't check the battery level before playing. I just assumed it was due to the headset because without the headset my battery life has been excellent.

I do also have an Astro A50 I am considering moving off my PC to my xbox, as it has its own power source. The only downside is it has more configuration to undergo and there doesn't seem to be any app to test my microphone to make sure it is working.
