There have been successful campaigns, but, to my knowledge, they all had a physical component that was sent to the network e.g. letters, tabasco, peanuts. If people start doing that for Dirk Gentle, I suggest Panic Pete squeeze toys.
Here's one that claims to be "inspired by" Dirk's jacket. It looks like it for sure, but I have no idea if it's a reputable seller or if it will be good quality.
Positive I've seen them in at least 3 films.
