Have you tried looking for online, work-from-home jobs? If hearing is a problem, you could look for jobs that involve primarily written/typed communication, whether it's real-time chat or time-shifted like email. That's my primary suggestion, if you choose to stay in El Paso.

I'm somewhat hard of hearing too (mostly in my left ear), to the point that I used to wear a hearing aid when I was a kid. I'm learning Spanish, and what I've found is that it has very consistent pronunciation. It is far, far more consistent than English. My vocabulary in Spanish is poor, and I really only know present tense conjugations, but I've been told by several people that my pronunciation is excellent. If you give me a random sentence in Spanish, I probably won't know what it means, but I can pronounce it like a native speaker.

If you have enough hearing to thoroughly practice a few lessons on the Spanish alphabet and pronunciation (enough to be understood), then you can base the rest of your Spanish learning on the written language. Couple those two things together, and maybe they'll help you hear and understand spoken Spanish somewhat better. You'd still be limited by your hearing, but it would be closer to your ability to understand spoken English.

For learning pronunciation, I started with Pimsleur's Quick and Simple Spanish and then moved on to some episodes of Coffee Break Spanish. The first 24-40 episodes of CBS are probably enough to help you with Spanish pronunciation.

For the written language, I suggest Duolingo, Memrise, and About.com.

Learning a language takes time, a lot of time, but in the meantime you'd still be able to earn a living from those English-only work-from-home jobs. And Spanish is valuable throughout the state and the country.

I hope this helps and I wish you well!

I just gotta chime in here.
I use Walmart family mobile and it's awesome.
I did the math and I'll save like $2000 over the span of a 2 year contract with little trade off.
I'm always on the look out for the best deal and I would appreciate anyone double checking this for me.

Samsung Galaxy S9 (Aprox what an S10 goes for now) $864.47
Walmart sim kit - about $25
Actual monthly payment $27.83 x 24 months = $667.92

This is about $1558

BUT with no phone insurance (which is a whole separate debate).
you can add a extra $864.47 though for good measure so... $2423
$2423 for a top-of-the-line phone (and 1 replacement) and 2 years unlimited talk, text, and data of great (not perfect) service.

I've had it for years and NO issues to report, I love it.

El Paso has a surprisingly good public wifi setup. Public libraries, rec centers, larger bus stations and some parks provide free, no-sign-in wifi with the SSID "digitalelpaso". The wifi runs 24/7 and reaches nearby street parking.

I live in a campervan and use the public wifi for email, browsing, and other bandwidth-light purposes. I don't stream video or anything like that, as it is a shared resource and I am grateful for it.

If you are using a laptop, you could pick up an Alfa usb wifi for about $30 that will greatly extend your range, both in the car and at home.

I am aware that they share the bus and the question asked about gigbit internet but i added what i said in response to you about setting up a cheap VPN service since there are multiple ways of doing it.

EDIT: Alternative to the raspberry would be ASUS SBC Tinker board since it does have a non-shared usb/ethernet bus.

UTEP doesn't really sell player specific jerseys. Would be more of a one off collectors item. Try: https://www.amazon.com/Aaron-Jones-Packers-Autographed-Jersey/dp/B07CK5LSHN
