Hey, welcome! I'm Justin, co-host of TCBCast, an Elvis podcast and I was in the place you were back in the early 00s when I was just discovering Elvis so this is an exciting time for you!

A lot of other Elvis fans will try to overwhelm you with recommendations about what they like most and why you should like it, but everyone's tastes are different. So the easiest thing you can do is just listen to his biggest hits and see what resonates with you. They were his biggest hits for a reason - they were good!

Do you have Spotify/Google Play/Prime Music? There's a compilation called The Essential Elvis Presley that really does a good job covering a lot of his big hits and some of his more minor hits - did you know that up until Drake & Li'l Wayne, Elvis had more Top 40 hits than anyone else? So even some of his songs that didn't become big #1 hits were still very influential!

This set is a good starting place because it's not too much but it covers a lot of ground! Elvis sang in a lot of different genres and he sounded different throughout his life vocally as he grew older, so you'll probably find that some of the songs you like more than the others.

If you do, then you can use Google or Wikipedia to look up what album the songs you like best originally came out on, or what year they came out, and then look for albums that came out that year and listen to them see if you like that, too!

I would also really recommend watching the documentary HBO put out last year called Elvis Presley: The Searcher. It's a great film that puts his career into context and might help you understand his life better. There is a soundtrack album that came out to accompany the documentary and I would happily recommend that also.

Exploring Elvis' music can be exciting but also very confusing to start with since he recorded over 700 songs and starred in over 30 movies, all of which had music in them, too!

Feel free to shoot me an email over at [email protected] if you ever have any questions or want some more advice!

Are you going to be there with her?

If so...I got this! First you order these:

Elvis Sunglasses with Side Burns - 6 Pairs - amazon $12.98 https://www.amazon.com/Ocean-Line-Elvis-Sunglasses-Burns/dp/B07PJBQ7T1/ref=sr_1_5?crid=3CXOWBA5JJESZ&keywords=elvis+sunglasses+with+sideburns&qid=1574456262&sprefix=Elvis+sunglasses%2Caps%2C211&sr=8-5

Then you get together you, friends and a couple family members to sing live Elvis Presley's BLUE CHRISTMAS song as a live concert performance in front of her. Get yourselves dressed up in the most ELVIS'Y clothes you can dig up for this live performance. Sing it along with the real Elvis record on a nice loud speaker.

Maybe set up a nice little colorful light display to turn on when the music and your live Elvis concert starts.

Before the performance begins you can announce it with, "GRANDMA, WE THOUGHT LONG AND HARD WHAT TO GET YOU THIS CHRISTMAS AND WE CAME UP WITH THIS!" --- then start the music and the lights.

^((maybe rehearse it a little bit))

Order some of these plastic ECHO MICROPHONES for $16 and give her one also! Will make all your voices sound so much better! https://www.amazon.com/Windy-City-Novelties-Microphone-inches/dp/B002C186PG/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=echo+microphone+for+kids+12+pack&qid=1574457001&sr=8-4

And by all means, listen to the Elvis BLUE CHRISTMAS song a few times in advance so you all sound like pros!

Take a bunch of photos and videos and that moment and memory (and framed pictures) will be more valuable than any cheap Elvis trinket you could ever buy.

A few days later, before New Years Eve print out the best photo of the night and put it in a nice frame and give it to her.

edit: While you're all at it maybe you can play a few other Elvis songs and have her sing some too. Take photos of everything! Print and frame the best pics in a collage.

I think this a no go unfortunately :-( If you can get your hands on it, you should without doubt get This Is
Elvis
. There's about 5 minutes of made up stuff at the beginning, but the rest is all real footage of The King from his beginnings to his sad end.
