With coffee, herbal teas, mate, and postum, you're going to be used to a much stronger flavor. Tea can be very subtle. If you drink it right after a cup of coffee or spicy/ strongly flavored food, you won't taste it.
It can also be made pretty weak, if you're using single serving loose leaf packets in a 12oz mug, it'll be pretty weak. Those are meant for closer to 6oz. Try adding a lot more tea. Add 4 times what you normally do, and steep it for the same amount of time you normally do (unless it's usually bitter, then do less). You can make it really strong if you just add more. I like to do that with a good Irish breakfast tea.
Also, explore flavored teas! Earl Grey, genmaicha, Lapsang Souchong, mint, and jasmine teas are some really good teas.
This jasmine tea has a great jasmine flavor, it's made with real jasmine instead of sprayed with oil or flavoring. It's also super cheap for pretty high quality tea.
Harney & Sons makes a good Lapsang Souchong. It's really smoky and tastes like a campfire, if you like strong drinks, you'll probably like it. It's very polarizing, though, some people love it and some people hate it.
Taylor's has good Earl Grey, which is flavored with bergamot. It tastes like fruit loops. Fancy.
Rishi makes good mint tea. It's very forgiving, if you like mint, it'll cover up most flaws you'll find in tea. The flavors compliment each other very well.
Genmaicha is made with puffed brown rice. It tastes a little bit like popcorn, it's a little sweet because of the rice, and it can have a strong flavor.
Try other things with tea, too. An Arnold Palmer (half black tea, half lemonade) is great in the summer. A squeeze of lemon or lime juice in any tea totally changes the flavor.
Hey there. If you haven’t already you should browse /r/tea. I know it’s a bit overwhelming, but their tea FAQ breaks down a lot to of good info for beginners.
I currently use a fancy multi temperature electric kettle that my husband bought me (this one by Cuisinart ), but in the past I brewed tea by using a stove top kettle or even just a pan on the stove. How you heat the water is up to your preference. Just make sure you’re heating the water the right temperature and the correct steeping time for the type of tea you’re brewing (covered in the tea FAQ).
If I want more than one cup of tea, my electric kettle actually keeps the water at the correct temperature for 30 mins so I can easily go back and pour another cup. I also have a 6 cup ceramic tea pot that I use and I find it reasonably keeps the tea warm enough, though I usually only use it if I’m drinking tea with someone else. If a tea pot doesn’t seem to keep it warm enough you can knit or crochet or buy a tea cozy to insulate the pot.
I only use loose leaf teas now since the price is better and it’s much fresher than bagged teas. I shop with Asiago since I can order online or go to their shop downtown, but there’s tons of tea shops to choose from.
I would trust your knowledge more than random internet sources (what a compliment! I meant I DO trust your knowledge), so great--I don't need a new kettle!
A french press is not a bad idea, I'll think about that. I was thinking about something like this for brewing/storing iced tea:

Any comment on that?
I've been drinking this matcha over the last couple of days:
https://www.amazon.com/Matcha-Green-Tea-Powder-Organic/dp/B00PFDH0IC/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8
I add a tsp to a thermos of hot water and shake it up. Even though it's culinary grade, it mixes fine. Most people probably won't enjoy the grassy taste, but I don't mind it.
As far as how it makes me feel, it's not as stimulating as coffee and really not too calming. It's overall more mild than expected. The Rev Up (black, green, oolong tea mix) from Teavana provides more of what I'm looking for. This matcha was really cheap though, so maybe I'll try a different brand later.
Edit: nm this matcha is pretty damn good in the mornings.
