Assassin's Creed is a great game series, but it's pretty violent - you play an assassin, after all. If you want to give it a shot, start with AC2 - it's a much better game than AC1.
Given that you liked Phoenix Wright (oh I do love Feenie.. there need to be more games in that series like yesterday), you could give Ghost Trick a shot. It's got a very similar sort of "feel" to it, though it's a bit more puzzle-y and less investigate-y, if that makes sense. It's by the same folks who did PW, for what that's worth, and I highly enjoyed it. I found the puzzle concepts really neat, too.
And given that you like mystery novels, I recommend 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors. Lots of drama, puzzles, decisions, and many different endings. Also lots of reading - it feels more like a book than PW did, to me. I haven't finished this one myself, but it sounds like it might be something you would enjoy. I liked it well enough, it was just more serious that what I was looking for at the time, and I haven't gone back to it yet.
Note, I'm assuming you have a DS of some fashion, since you said you'd played PW; both Ghost Trick and 999 are DS games.
Hope you find something that you enjoy, and happy gaming!
I don't know if this is really what you are looking for, as they are more academic in nature and focus more on gender representation and performance, but here are a couple that I have read recently:
From Barbie to Mortal Kombat: Gender and Computer Games - This book is pretty old, published in 2000 and references games mostly from the mid to late nineties. However, it has some pretty awesome information on the rise of "pink" and "purple" games, and the attempt of gaming developers to tap into the female market. Some interesting interviews with women in the industry, and it uses a lot of Judith Butler's theory of performativity, which I'm a fan of.
Beyond Barbie and Mortal Kombat: New Perspectives on Gender and Gaming - As the title suggests, a much more contemporary discussion on gender and gaming, although still a bit out of date since the genre is changing so rapidly. Lots of discussion of women and MMO's if you're interested in that, and sections on the need and call for more diversity in games themselves. A bit too qualitative in some sections for my tastes, but still has some really interesting chapters.
I would advise buying a mic and headphones seperately.
I just got these Sony MDRV6 headphones, and they're pretty awesome.
You can go really cheap on a microphone if you're not so concerned with your own voice quality. A $10 stand will get the job done and not sound particularly bad on the receiving end. You could also get something like a Blue Snowball for something that's as good as Jane/Joe Gamer could realistically need.
Also, hit up /r/headphones. They've got some really great recommendation breakdowns.
I found Castle Crashers to be much easier to play with a Windows compatible Xbox controller instead of the keyboard. It's very old school arcade style and I felt it needed a joystick to really make it work. My fingers were aching by the end after using the keyboard but it's doable without the controller. However lots of fun, visually looks great, and 50% off on Steam right now!!
TL;DR: Xbox 360 if the game you got really need a controller.
What games did you pick up? Many, many games for computers work just fine with a keyboard and a mouse.
If you have a two-button mouse with a scroll wheel, you're pretty much set.
That said, there are some games which work better with controllers.
For those, the Microsoft Xbox 360 controllers work well. You don't need the "for PC" version. They are all USB controllers straight out of the box.
As /u/Casey234 mentioned, the Steam controller is nice if you don't like the idea of using a keyboard and mouse. It tries to work both as a controller and as a keyboard/mouse combo for games. It's a pricier, though.
Here's some links if you need them:
Something like: http://smile.amazon.com/Microsoft-Wired-Controller-Windows-Console/dp/B004QRKWLA
(or the wireless version if you prefer. I own four and have used them with both PC's and Mac's just fine.)
Or the Steam Controller: http://store.steampowered.com/app/353370/ if you want to avoid a mouse and keyboard as much as possible.
They have a similar keyboard on Amazon that’s the same color as the razer quartz. It’s about $48 and I’ve heard really good things about it. here ya go
Now I own the quartz razer headset and the only reason I went with that was because of the kitty ear attachments and I must say it’s worth investing into. The quality of it is amazing and so is the sound quality.
I love the Sony brand Dual Shock 4 controllers. However, if you're missing the shape of Xbox style controllers, I've seen other manufacturers make them in that style.
I've played on Sony systems since I switched from X360 to PS3 (after also having been mostly Xbox) and I was tempted by these myself. However, I never did because I knew it would just stagger my transition to the feel of the new console and accompanying hardware.
If you still just don't like how the DS4 feels in your hands during play, you should check out something like this.
If you're looking for a good skin (I don't think any Sony contollers will come in purple) but I recommend DecalGirl. Lots more options than solid colors and you might find something that suits you!
I just wear regular studs and have never had any headphone issues. Any over the ear headset works great. My favorite was the MDRV6 which lasted for years and sounded great when I was a teen and regularly stole my older bro's pair, but haven't gotten around to getting my own pair due to saving up for too many other things! My current headphones do fit over the ear though, and 0 earring issues.
thanks! i got the replacement shells from extremerate on amazon (x, x, x, x, x) and watched a video to help me disassemble my switch. if you're going to do it tho i suggest using your own screwdrivers since the ones they provide are kind of shoddy and can strip the screws easily!
My favorites:
[Sweet Fuse: At Your Side] (https://store.sonyentertainmentnetwork.com/#!/en-us/games/sweet-fuse-at-your-side/cid=UP1024-ULUS10652_00-BAKUDANHANDAN001)
Hakuoki: Demon of the Fleeting Blossom
Corpse Party
Corpse Party: Book of Shadows
999 already mentioned by another in this thread.
Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward The sequel to 999.
Also, to a lesser extent anything by Winter Wolves. I've played a few and a lot of them are now on Steam too. These contain a bit more busy work than I'd like, but some solid stories there.
Hi! Thank you very much :) ! Mouse and monitor as requested!
Amazon is having a huge sale on Razer mice atm, so you might want to check that out. If a $50 mouse is in your budget, I recently bought the Razer Orochi and really like it so far. It is ambidexterous and can be used wired or wireless. It's considered a "travel mouse" so it definitely works for smaller hands. Also, a big improvement from the Wal-mart mouse I was previously using - much more precise and no more jumping about the screen.
I personally HATE the PS4 controller. My husband and both tried thumb grips, silicone skins, etc, to make the controller comfortable. Nothing. So I went and bought this: https://www.amazon.ca/PlayStation-Hori-Video-Controller-Commander/dp/B0106XFCPI/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1497370985&sr=8-3&keywords=hori+ps4. The reviews are mixed, but it's the best third PS4 controller I ever used. I went and bought 3; since we have 3 PS4s.
I also have the CronusMax, but you will need the Pro Pad on the PS4 controller to access the menu on some games.
You can also find monitors that go vertical on their own. I recently purchased this Asus monitor that looks gorgeous and goes vertical without a mount.
Sadie Plant's book Zeroes and Ones is an excellent read on Ms. Lovelace and women in tech.
Extremerate on Amazon!

They offer a lot of color options as well!
The latest run on Wonder Woman is fantastic. Blood, Guts, and Iron are the first three collected TPBs. I think vol. 4 War is also out at this point.
Fables is one of my favorite ongoing comics, about Fable and Fairy Tale characters who've been driven out of their fairy tale homelands and are now living in New York. Snow White is a major player (and kind of a badass).
Wired 360 controllers already have a USB ending. They will work out of the box for windows 7 and 8 machines, and there's drivers for XP, Mac, and Linux systems.
If you want to use a wireless 360 controller you can buy either the stand alone adapter or the adapter controller combo! http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Controller-Windows/dp/B004QRKWKQ
Hi! Here's a link to the mat, I bought it on Amazon!

I thought I'd link to the review instead of the book itself because that's how I found out about it and because it gives a nice overview of what the book is about and why it might be worth reading.
Amazon Link.
I wanna buy it but it's a bit expensive.
the mouse is from razer, keyboard from amazon!

Ah, it was a middle chapter in the book "Taking on the System" by Markos Zuniga but I can't seem to pull it in the books.google.com sample.

I found it at a used book store for a buck. It may not be that hard to find.

I found it on amazon after a little looking around.
Amazon! It's called chameleon
[Here you go!] (https://www.amazon.com/DualShock-Wireless-Controller-PlayStation-Chameleon/dp/B075XS65T9) it's on the pricey side, but in my country considering the shipping cost and everything, it's similar to the price range of plain ones
Ajazz AJ52!
This is the version I went with which is rather cheap for a gaming mouse.
Your link didn't get created right, and the actual link shows up as mouseover text for me.
For people trying to click the above link:

This is my baby; I use it for everything, including my Switch and I highly recommend it. Great refresh rate, solid construction, lots of adjustable settings.
The first one I got had a cluster dead pixels and I immediately returned it, no problem. It's also a rotating set up if vertical monitors are your thing.
If you like the Xbox controller, there are three easily solutions for you, by increasing price:
http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-360-Wired-Controller/dp/B003ZSN600
http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Controller-Windows/dp/B004QRKWKQ
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-One-Wireless-Controller/dp/B00CMQTUSS
I use the middle option, as I prefer not having any more cables than necessary, plus any Xbox 360 controller can connect to the wireless dongle, meaning you can buy extra, new model controllers (not Xbox One) or use any controllers you can borrow. The Xbox One controller must remain plugged in via Micro-USB (included,) and the wired Xbox 360 controller obviously is wired. Microsoft has released drivers for all three and they should install automatically. For right now, there is no way to connect an Xbox One controller wirelessly.
For PS3, you will have to find a driver package. I used motioninjoy so I could use my PS3 controller for emulating SNES games, but it messed up other drivers and I ended up uninstalling it and using my 360 controller exclusively. Once the drivers are installed, you can use a Bluetooth dongle to connect the PS3 controller to the PC wirelessly.
A PS4 controller can also be used via Bluetooth, but requires DS4Tool which maps the buttons on the DS4 controller to their corresponding Xbox 360 buttons.
Not op but I bought one too and it’s from amazon. The description is one of the reasons I purchased it.
“Accompany to cry, you are girl, arrogance is your symbol..”
