First off, there is no "Grasshopper Labs". The company is called "Hopper Labs". That is a common misconception that a lot of people make, but I don't really get why.

Now to respond to some points you made.

>The GH has bad battery life

Get multiple batteries and an external charger and you won't have to worry about not having a full battery when you need it - personally recommend the Efest LUC v4

>is hard to refill

/u/Delta3DStudios makes an excellent little funnel to make refilling super easy - https://delta3dstudios.com/grasshopper-mini-loading-funnel/

>hard to clean

No, it really isn't. It's extremely easy. Just take the top end off and soak it in rubbing alcohol for a while. Then use a Qtip and scrub the inside of the front-end. Then scrub the inside of the body with a dry Qtip. And if you empty it out right after you are done using it every time and get a natural bristle brush to wipe off the inside of the chamber, then you can go quite a long time without cleaning it.

>needs cleaning a lot

Again, empty it out and wipe the inside with a brush every time after you are done using it. The MFLB brush is cheap and works great - http://sales.magic-flight.com/cleaning-brush-1/

>the plastic mouthpiece isn't good and falls off

I haven't had any issues with the silicone mouthpiece, but I don't really use it often. My lips aren't very heat sensitive, I guess. Although one time I got it back and it got hotter than it usually did and I needed the mouthpiece. It seemed to work OK.

>the body gets too hot

It's malfunctioning if the body is hot to the touch. It should only be warm.

>and it breaks all the time.

We're in agreement here.

My only real quarrel is that it breaks all the time, but back when I could get it back within a week, it wasn't so bad. This latest hitch in warranty service is pretty demotivating though.

Get the extra battery (each one can get me through around 1.5 bowls), WPA piece (water pipe attachment that works better than the normal front end - less draw resistance) and an external charger. I recommend the nitecore D2 - the one I bought can be found here:

Enjoy your Hopper! Thing is amazing.

Solar should work fine, but keep in mind that solar chargers are very inconsistent and the rating shown is in optimal conditions, the real world output is far less than that.
That said, the goalzero Nomad 20 should do nicely, my Nomad 7 didn't charge the battery to any useful amount.

If you're going to try this make sure to use food grade silicon tubing like this one: http://www.amazon.com/High-Temp-Grade-Silicone-Tubing/dp/B00FXAA0BQ

Yeah, the internal one is the ring charge, this is my external (you can get cheaper ones that work as wel)

Hey there you are, I was hoping you'd see my thread since I knew you had experience with other chargers. :)

I now have 4 ways of charging the hopper's batteries, and 3 of those methods involve constant current. The hopper charger is the only one that dances around all over the place.

3 other chargers I have (in no particular order)

  1. Nitecore F1 - Charges at a constant 1 amp
  2. XTAR MC1 - Charges at a constant .5 amp
  3. Olight UC - Charges at a constant .75 amp

I'm going to contact hopper labs and see if they'll provide some insight on this. Perhaps these batteries are designed for variable charging? I'm no expert on the matter, but constant amperage/voltage seems like a more normal method of charging batteries. Every lithium battery I've ever charged has been that way.

Hot is one of the more subjective words in the dictionary. What's hot to you may be warm to me. Fortunately, they make a thing called a laser thermometer that will tell you exactly how "hot" your grasshopper is. Here's one for example. Take measurements of the parts in question.

Any old case will do, but these are good, as they're opaque, and the cap is greenish :).

These are also surprisingly capacious, no doubt to sell more contact lens solution.

tweezers with a needle point (like these), you can put them down into the front, and then use it to 'screw' the screen back in.

Oops, sorry. I spoke too soon.
This is the "PU leather" one I had. It felt very real. I liked that it has a zipper pocket...great place for the extra batteries to go. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008QTN6BC?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00

I got a cheap pill holder key chain that works well, but I keep a mini swiss army on that key chain too because weed will get stuck.

I plan on lining this cigar case with some thin foam form my Ti. Airtight and will stop the button from accidentally bring pushed. Kinda fat though.

Real talk... I had a similar problem, and on a whim tried some generic Sticky Tack!

Wrap it around the very tip, press slightly to seal. Booom! Easy, resuable, rolls into a ball the size of a penny, doesn't leave a residue, and has no problem taking the heat!
