Honestly mate, £50 going to direct to ANet isn't really a steep investment imho. I see no reason at all to give money to retailers that have nothing to do with the game, even if it saves me £10-15. ANet deserve all the money in my opinion, they've obviously put an awful lot of work into the game - this isn't another one of the plethora of substandard mmo's/games we've seen recently.

It obviously depends on your financial situation and how much time you plan on putting into the game, but from my point of view I've already got my money's worth from the 100+ hours I've played in betas/stress tests. If you're really into the game, then I'd say fork out the extra money, but if you're not really bothered and simply want to check it out, just stick with the regular version of the game and forego the headstart access.

If you plan on playing the game for months or years (in my case) then £50 is nothing in comparison to other forms of entertainment. Try and watch a premier league football match for less than £50 or buy a few new release dvd's. If you like the game, then you'll probably get hundreds of hours out of it - which in the long run will make £50 seem like a very cheap investment.

That being said, I believe Amazon has the 1 day preorder at £35: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Guild-Wars-Standard-Edition-DVD/dp/B007YZ5B0I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1345217955&sr=8-1

You will want to confirm this though, I don't know how it works and people in the comments there seem to be a little anxious.

Hope you enjoy your time in Tyira! :)

To add to what doug4130 said, I would suggest investing in an inexpensive gaming mouse. If you really like MMOs, it's totally worth it. You can get a decent 5 button mouse on Amazon for pretty cheap. This is the mouse I use and it's just $40.00. If that's too expensive even going with something like this for $20.00 will really enhance your play experience.

Look at it this way, you spent $60 on a game you can't play right now. You can either eat the loss, or put up another $20 which may help you a ton.

This game definitely requires a lot more skill than WoW. That's a simple fact. However, once you get the hang of it you can pretty easily do any PvE content, it's just the higher level Fractals and some dungeons you'll have problems with. However, a good mouse that you can set a lot of hotkeys on will, I promise you, help a ton.

Yeah. The Superluxx Solution with an external Mic is absolutely awesome and beats any Complete HS far 150 USD.
You can go the "New" Variant what costs a bit more:
HS: HD 681 Evo
Mic: Reloop

With this Combination youve got a real Headset Style, cause the Microfone will sit Right were other Mics are on the regular Headsets.

Now to the "Classic" Combination, cheaper but no loss in Quality:
HS: HD 681
Mic: Zalman Mic1

With both Solutions youre ready to go.
Only thing to Mention. You WILL need Soundcard with Headset Amplifier such as:
for PCI Slot: Xonar DG
for PCI-Ex Slot: Xonar DgX

Both are Equal in Sound Quality, take the one who fits in your computer, and then:

Enjoy awesome Sound :)

pre purchased on amazon july 2012 and character creation was on launch day; I got the hard cover guide as "suggested by amazon" that I still have to this day. It had a neat map atlas bonus, a top spiral binding book that stayed up when you left it on your desk.

Great to get all of those hearts and vistas early.

edit: this thing.

The MMO Mouse (twelve on the side) has:

  • Middle = F1
  • Special = double-click

  1. F2
  2. F3
  3. F4
  4. CTRL+T (Call Target)
  5. Swap layout (I have five profiles)
  6. W (Take a target)
  7. 7 (About face)
  8. 8 (Stow/Draw Weapon)
  9. 9 (F5)
  10. Mouse 4 (Heal)
  11. T (Interact)
  12. Mouse 5 (Elite)

All the F buttons are hit with the tip of my thumbnail, which makes it easy to play Elementalist and Engineer. It also makes it easy to hit the Chronomancer Continuum Split button and then drag my thumb along the line of F skills to burst people with condi's in WvW :3

When I get the mounts going, I will make them CTRL+F1-F4 because I can hold CTRL easily whilst moving since it is right at the corner of my hand.

I use https://www.amazon.com/Gaming-Mouse-UtechSmart-Venus-Precision/dp/B00FNKMVUO for reference. It mostly fits me... lower half of my thumb can hit 7-12 and upper half for the others. The buttons are all wide enough that I do not double-hit them.

P.S. Yes, I made my own keyboard layout so movement keys look funny. That side of the keyboard is laid out with:
    ;vflwc
    kontsh
    zbrdgi

If all you want to know is if gems are worth it, the answer is yes. There are a lot of good things you can get. Bag slots, bank space, more mat storage, shared inventory slots, the Copper-Fed Salvage-o-matic, and so on. And then you can also buy cooler gliders and whatnot but that's all up to you.

But don't buy the Ultimate Edition. Buy the HoT upgrade from Amazon for $40, then $50 worth of gems to get whatever you want, and you've saved $10. If you decide you also want the character slot, then blow another $10 and the only thing you've missed out on are the mini, finisher, and glider, all of which are pretty meh in my opinion (only the glider is really worth it).

Get a gaming mouse with at least 3 easy to use buttons for the thumb. It makes your life 500x easier for kit swapping. I personally use the Redragon M801 Mammoth, but something like the Logitech G602 would also work rather well.

Also take the time to learn every skill in those kits and how they can be used. Condi engineer is very powerful in open world and fractals if you can play it right.

u/marcustyphoon · 3 pointsr/Guildwars2

As far as I know yes, but HoT is $30 on DLGamer (legit, Anet authorized, I and many others have bought HoT from them) or $32 on Amazon if you can get free shipping, so unless you can get the original for less it's not worth it.

u/Brybot · 2 pointsr/Guildwars2

Here's a Link for your viewing pleasure. I got mine for a birthday gift from a friend 3 years ago and have never looked back.

u/khorren · 3 pointsr/Guildwars2

Every few months or so there's been a 50% off sale, it'll be a while til the next one though since we just had one. But Amazon has it for $31 USD right now: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000WJQXQE/ref=pe_160330_227862370_em_1p_0_ti also a place called DLGamer, which is a partner site usually has it at a discount.

Codes are one use only, so you can't buy someone else's account, no. Also stay away from grey-market reseller websites. If it's not listed on the retailers site https://www.guildwars2.com/en/retailers/ it's probably not worth the risk.

Also keep in mind the core game is play for free, so you can just download and create an account and see if it's manageable for your ping :)

I had to dust off the old Nostromo from my early WoW days.

I love being able to strafe/move with one finger using the thumbpad... plus there's enough keybinds/combinations for anyone.

u/arien12 · 2 pointsr/Guildwars2

Not the most expensive rig in the world, but I love every part of it and recommend it all:

i7 2600k w/ Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO

2x GTX460 1GB DDR5 in SLI

Corsair HX 750W power supply

It's the strategic guide that was published at release time back in 2012. It also exists in hardcover though I never saw this version in Europe.

Though most of the stuff is now outdated due to many change and game rework in term of maps change or additions (this predates the Southsun release), skills or class mechanics since release, it contains lots of nice artwork, and interesting side-development info like how Tengu could have been a playable race at release.

u/kare_kano · 1 pointr/Guildwars2

If you have USB3 connectors on your Air (ie. got it after mid 2012) you can get a regular SSD hard-drive and an USB3 enclosure. I use this SSD and this enclosure. Total cost for both should be under $50.

If not, then you will need to add a Thunderbolt to USB3 adapter (assuming you don't use the Thunderbolt connector for something already), which are quite expensive and please make sure you get it from a vendor with good return policy because there's no guarantee the adapter will work with a USB3 SSD enclosure.

Also, have you considered upgrading the hard-drive in your Air?

u/pixtax · 1 pointr/Guildwars2

IF you rather have less buttons, a Logitech G402 is nice too. Sturdy and precise, and very comfortable.

That's a pretty bad plan man theres cheaper laptops that do and dont have a GPU the most important think for gaming on a computer better to just give a budget

Acer Predator Helios 300 Gaming Laptop, 15.6" Full HD IPS, Intel i7-7700HQ CPU, 16GB DDR4 RAM, 256GB SSD, GeForce GTX 1060-6GB, VR Ready, Red Backlit KB, Metal Chassis, Windows 10 64-bit, G3-571-77QK https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06Y4GZS9C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_9DqQBb5GG0FTJ

I highly recommend a gameboard like the Logitech G13.

I have all my skills bound to the Gkeys on it, movement bound to the thumbstick, and jumping, diving, targeting and interaction controls bound to my mouse (a Logitech G700).

u/Hexea · 1 pointr/Guildwars2

Like this? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Belkin-Nostromo-SpeedPad-Directional-Throttle/dp/B0000DC643

I don't think my hands would know what to do, haha. At the moment I pretty much use Shift, W, 1234 and click everything else even though I tried binding my attacks to Z, X, C, B, G, and R. Maybe I need big stickers on my keyboard or something.

u/MyNameIsAdam · 2 pointsr/Guildwars2

The Sennheiser HD-555's are awesome. Way better sound and build quality over the gaming headsets I've used in the past. I use a Zalman Clip-on Mic and guildies have had no issue with the sound quality.

u/snuflswasmyslavename · 2 pointsr/Guildwars2

I'd recommend a reasonably fast SSD and an USB3 enclosure. I've been very pleased with this enclosure.

u/[deleted] · 3 pointsr/Guildwars2

Rebind dodge to your mouse.

As for the rest, do whatever works for you. I personally go with esdf for movement, and I rebind s and f to strafe instead of turn. I use weap skills on wqa34, r for heal, tgb class skill, v for my elite. Honestly, this is the first MMO I have played that has made me deeply consider buying a speedpad.

u/kaloryth · 2 pointsr/Guildwars2

I recently bought this mouse and am very happy with it. I shied away from mice like the g600 because they had far more buttons than I wanted. The buttons have distinct shapes to avoid misclicking.

For the lazy

Did you know Amazon will donate a portion of every purchase if you shop by going to smile.amazon.com instead? Over $50,000,000 has been raised for charity - all you need to do is change the URL!

Having an mmo mouse can help take a lot off the keys i have 10 things set to the mouse and it make smoother game play as your finger will not have to dash about trying to keep up.

u/Sontaran_Strax · 1 pointr/Guildwars2

Here is what I have https://www.amazon.com/UtechSmart-Venus-16400-Precision-Gaming/dp/B00FNKMVUO and I cannot stress enough how much better the game was after switching to it.

u/aterian · 1 pointr/Guildwars2

It looks like they've moved to only doing digital sales. The Skyrim soundtrack on there is digital only (used to have a physical copy available as well). Maybe they don't have the rights to sell GW2 as a digital soundtrack for some reason.

I wonder if ordering through this page would still work. Failing that, it looks like Amazon has one third party seller with a copy, or you could look elsewhere (eBay?) for people reselling their copies.

u/Fribbtastic · 2 pointsr/Guildwars2

there are some tracks on the official soundcloud page but other than that if you are wealthy buy it from amazon $349.99 used

Update to a question from last night - I've been looking into getting a new gaming laptop, and was suggested the Acer Predator Helios 300, with Nvidia GTX 1060 and 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7. Does anyone have any experience with running GW2 on this laptop or graphics card / processor, and if so how well did it run? I'm mostly hoping to be able to run high settings consistently without dropping below ~30fps or so, even in raids or fractals.

u/FlyingSkyWizard · 2 pointsr/Guildwars2

For an off the shelf solution, This thing is symmetrical and would work for southpaws

u/Psykotik_Dragon · 1 pointr/Guildwars2

I got lucky enough to win a steelseries shift in a contest but don't have any of the keysets for MMO/FPS/etc just the default keyboard. but remapping is always a PitA & trying to learn to use the mouse as a righty this late in my life is an all but fruitless endeavor lol...there's some gimmicky looking pieces out there for ambidexterous gaming for example Warrior Gaming Keypad or the Ideazon Fang Gamepad. but spending upwards of $40 (if it can be found @ all) for a glorified numberpad is not ideal to say the least.

u/A_cold_dish · 5 pointsr/Guildwars2

Amazon has the Platinum edition on for 9.99 right now that contains EotN
http://www.amazon.com/NCsoft-41136-Platimun1-Guild-Wars/dp/B008Y43IMG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1372696019&sr=8-1&keywords=guild+wars+platinum

Just figured I'd give you a heads up! I haven't gone and checked GW out since moving to GW2, but perhaps I should hop on for a bit!

u/Rage321 · 1 pointr/Guildwars2

Yup, I like it. If it ever dies, this seems like a logical replacement, but I'll miss the two thumb buttons! This looks cramped.

u/PhineasSurrey · 1 pointr/Guildwars2

I use the Logitech G700 (so perfect for this game!! :D)
http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Wireless-Gaming-Mouse-G700/dp/B003VAM32E

Weapon Skills: 1, 2, 3, 4, E

Self Heal: Q

Utility Skills: G8, G9, G10

Elite: R

Dodge: Shift (pls don't use double tap...)

Strafe: A, D

Mark & Call: G6, G7

Switch Weapon & Pet: G4, G5

Look behind: Mousewheel

u/onlywrin · 4 pointsr/Guildwars2

Well.... here's some great mice for under your $50 minimum. The Logitech 300 series (300, 302, 303) are all 20-40 and are my personal recommendation if you're on a budget.

Logitech G402 Hyperion Fury FPS Gaming Mouse with High Speed Fusion Engine (910-004069) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LZVNWIA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_w8pGybPC2WQKF

I've had this one for a while, but FWIW, you can get that mouse for $75 on Amazon

u/bigballer_status · 37 pointsr/Guildwars2

My life changed forever the day I started wearing my three wolf moon shirt. I instantly grew chest hair and full beard. Picking up chicks from Walmart is a thing of the past. I now get them wherever I go.

u/epictaco · 8 pointsr/Guildwars2

Is it just me or was the wolf finisher a reference to this shirt?

u/phoenixfudge · 2 pointsr/Guildwars2

I got the Red Dragon Mammoth for $40. Apparently, its on sale right now. Anyways, it's not super fancy but its damn good for the price you pay. You can find more about the Revenant profession with the link.

u/zerohaste · 14 pointsr/Guildwars2

That watch goes for $65 on Amazon, normally $120. Damn.
