I'm with you on the bandaid adhesive allergy. And yes I can use tegaderm I've actually been using it on the same two areas 24x7 for over a month now after HS surgery on my groin and thigh. It is very expensinve, however I found that you can save a lot of money buy purchasing it in 100 packs from Amazon.com. It's normally about $1 US per sheet at the store in a box of 10 but on that link it's almost 1/4th the price! I actually got Amazon Prime just for this 3 years ago after my first HS surgery and it's paid for itself. They sell larger sized sheets but you can just use multiple ones of these instead and it's more cost effective. Hope this helps you and anyone else save some money!

[Edit] I just wanted to say to anyone else I really love tegaderm this stuff is awesome it's a little tricky to use at first (kind of like how saran wrap is tricky, but not that bad) but it's definitely some awesome stuff and a lifesaver to people like me and IdahoLynxx. I really wish I could tell the world about this stuff. If I put a bandaid or tape on sensitive area of skin I will get a poison ivy like rash and have had the skin rip off when taking off the bandaid but not with tegaderm.

Like others have said, it varies so much. I really feel for you, it sounds like you are having a particularly tough go of it. Nightshades do indeed bring me trouble, personally. Also, I haven't found supplements to be of any consequence. I am a dairy-free vegetarian myself. I shower once a day and I only ever use Hibiscrub on my body. I believe that this product helps my skin. I cannot recommend Sudocrem enough, both for soothing existing wounds and healing quieter/inactive wounds. I only trust Jason Deodorant. I find it soothing and effective. I wouldn't make a homemade deodorant, but that's down to my own ignorance on the topic. Jason works for me. You can find the products on Amazon but they are reasonably popular - if not available on Amazon you should be able to find other vendors on other websites.

Sudocrem: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sudocrem-Antiseptic-Healing-Cream-Eczema/dp/B012CDLHR2

(I know I've included Sudocrem twice, but it really has made my life easier and if I can share it with anyone I would love to. Also sidenote, I also use it as a face cream twice a week when I go to bed. I use white pillow cases because it is a thick cream. It's my skins best friend)

Good luck OP.

hi there, please read!! there is hope:)!!

i had hidradenitis suppurativa from the age of 11 until i was 26 years old on my bikini line and butt. It was painful, embarrassing and really affected my confidence. At 26 I finally went to see a dermatologist in Manhattan who gave me two options. the first option was to go in antibiotics for two months or go a natural route and take a combination of two supplements for 6 months twice a day. I chose to try the supplements and it fucking worked!!!! I am 28 now and RARELY get a flare up, and if i do its tiny and goes away quickly.

Here is what to take and how often:
two times day daily (in the morning and in the evening before bed) take 500 mg of Niacinamide and 25,000 IU of vitamin A (beta-carotene).

Here links to the supplements (make sure buy a quality brand) :

Other notes from my dermatologist:

Although u may think working out can make flare ups worse because of sweat, sweating is very important to help detox the skin!!! Just make sure to shower shortly.

Use a body wash with tea tree oil.

Stay away from inflammatory foods, especially dairy and processed oils.

Drink LOTS of water.

I hope this helps someone. It really worked for me and i am so
relieved.

I started a modified Paleo diet a year ago and I've seen a dramatic improvement. I'd say 95% improvement. There are days and weeks where I forget I even have HS. The diet change is difficult--I would get depressed at the thought of food--but I adapted to it after 6 months.

Castaway Kitchen (Cristina Curp) and Curious Coconut (Amanda Torres) have very good AIP/Paleo recipes. They both have HS and have put it into remission using diet.I've tried their recipes and they taste very good. I've made the chicken more times that I can count.

Also, this is a great book - Mickey Trescott's Autoimmune Paleo Cookbook

I use the winter squash soup recipe quite often.

Cristina Curp's book 'Made Whole' is excellent.

This is sort of expensive but I eat tons of it. It might be all in my head but I seem to absorb better the nutrients when I eat gummy vitamins. I've actually had some success with the flare-ups going down.

Since I'm a compulsive overeater I have to be careful cuz sometimes I can really go to town on these.

Hey guys this is the one I use it has no adhesive but an absorbent patch in the middle and I tie the gauze around the abscess. It’s super great and doesn’t bother the area. No tape is needed which is good since the glue from the tape can cause rashes and irritation. Hope this helps !

Then it must be a different trigger, here is a book that I highly recommend: https://www.amazon.com/Hidden-Plague-Overcoming-Hidradenitis-Suppurativa/dp/1939563011/ref=nodl_ I’m currently reading it right now.

ucg is just alternative notation for mcg (micrograms)

1000 micrograms = 1 milligram (mg)

I use Solgar selenomethionine 200mcg, I take one every other day. This is what I use.

Tegaderm bandages work wonders for me. You can put additional absorbent dressings under if needed.

One of the frustrating things about HS for me is that it seems related to other issues in my body. I see a dermatologist for HS but if it’s caused by hormones then my dermatologist is only a temporary solution. Finding the solution to hormone imbalance is something you probably will have to do separately.

Being overweight messes with your hormones. Losing weight messes with your hormones because estrogen is stored in fat, so when you lose fat the estrogen has to be processed. Once you are at a healthy weight and stop losing fat your hormones will settle. They may be balanced or not. You won’t know until you get there.

I recommend reading Taking Charge of your Fertility. It’s about female reproductive systems and the involved hormones. Many women use it to get pregnant but it’s also great for learning and understanding what hormones do to your body. Once you understand that you’ll know if your hormones are doing what they are supposed to do. If they are not you should bring it up with a gynecologist and push for a referral to an endocrinologist.

Birth control to treat irregular periods is a temporary solution. You are not fixing the problem you are putting a band aid on it.

It is unhealthy to go too long without a period. The uterine lining is meant to be shed. When that does not happen the cells that sit there too long may reproduce and cause cancer. Birth control forces a period. You can also get a prescription to force a period that is not birth control. My doctor told me 3 months was the longest I should go without forcing a period if it’s not happening naturally.

Right now weight loss seems to be reducing your HS symptoms. Losing weight might put you into remission. This could be your long term solution. If I were you I would continue that path. BC might help or it might make it worse. You don’t want to be on it anyway.

i got mine in china town in Philly. here is an amazon link. it's sold as a spice for like 5 bucks.

never tried it on the groin, but i imagine it would still work, as it's the same kind of sore or lesion or whatever you wanna call it. my groin usually doesn't flare up as bad as my pits, so i never tried it. hope it helps.
