Vinegar-based over cream-based as a general rule. For a quick German salad...this is what you do and it's fucking delicious.

You get a cucumber and a tomato. Or just a cucumber.

You get a packet of knorr powered salad dressing, the one with dill spice in it. Called - Knorr Salat Krönung dill-kräuter.

You make the dressing according to directions (ie water, oil, vinegar) and add it to your chopped up cucumber.

Toss, and enjoy. It's the shit. And takes like 5 min.

If you are up for a little more cooking and know how to boil water, you can make the best German potato salad ever. EVER. Direct from my Oma to you fine people:

1 long english (14") cucumber (or 2 med sized cukes)

8 medium sized red potatoes

2 packets knorr dill-kräuter spice salad dressing

2 chicken bouillon cubes (or use beef or veg flavor, your preference)

Apple cider vinegar

Water

Soy sauce

Olive oil (or canola, your preference)

Worcestershire sauce

Cut cucumber into thin coins. Boil potatoes with skin on till knife cuts through easy. Drain potatoes and let cool in cold water briefly until they are able to be handled without burning your fingers.
Put bouillon cubes in small saucepan, add 1/2 cup vinegar. Heat till cubes dissolve in vinegar. Put knorr powered dressing spice in a large bowl, add vinegar-bouillon liquid, add 2 tablespoons of water and 3 tablespoons oil. Wisk together. Add a 2 teaspoons each of soy sauce and Worcestershire sauce. Wisk. Add more vinegar to taste. You want to aim for a concentrated vinegary umami flavor. But tastes vary by person. I like something more vinegary so I add more apple cider vinegar.

Add in the cucumber. Let sit for 10 min to let them get a slight pickle. Now do a rough chop of the boiled potatoes into coins. The final mixing will naturally break up the potatoes into smaller pieces. Keep the skin on friends...don't be a monster.... that's flavor. Put chopped potatoes in the cucumber dressing bowl and gently mix everything together. Let sit for 5 min, then do a taste test and add more vinegar/soy sauce/Worcestershire sauce to taste. You shouldn't really need much more.

No need to add any salt or anything. All the seasoning is in the knorr powder! It's a wonder spice blend!

You can be fancy and toss in a thinly sliced red onion. You can be next level extra fancy by adding a few crushed up pieces of crispy bacon and bacon drippings. 🥒🥓🥓

The potato salad is best after an hour resting... IF you can wait that long to eat it. It's amazing the next day after being in the refrigerator overnight. It's the best side dish to take to a bbq or potluck. This is the quick salad my Oma would always make. It's 100% german grandmother approved. It's ridiculously good with seared and grilled salmon.

Thing is that it's on the hard side to find the knorr seasoning in american stores. I always had german relatives send me boxes of the stuff from Germany. I recently found that amazon sells it. The directions are in German, but that's what Google translate is for.

Sure. You can use Liquithick which is a thickening gel medium. It helps acrylics act more like oils. Which, also means that they take longer to dry. If you want it to take even longer to dry--and be workabe longer--then you can use a Slow Dry medium.

Here's a brief video of what using the Liquithick looks like. It's by a professor that developed an allergy to oil paint, so he's using acrylics now.

Using acrylics with a higher amount of pigment also give you a richer, deeper colour. If you already have the paint and don't want to buy more, you can get paint pigment powder to add to your palette. It can be pricy though and you should
always* work with a face mask so that you don't breathe in the pigment. As the compounds used to make powdered pigment can be toxic, heavy metals.

There's a great book that explains so many people who end up on this subreddit. "Mistakes Were Made (Not By Me)". It's a pretty entertaining read on the psychology of these people.

Take a dropper full of liquid ass, pull back that rubber seal where the passenger window rolls down, and empty the dropper inside the door. Even with an advanced detailing, nobody will ever think to clean inside the door and since it will be on the passenger side, he will only occasionally get a strong whiff. He'll spend weeks trying to track down where the smell is coming from.

>I really didn't understand what she meant by a cord for a telephone

Are you for real right now? Has cellular so taken over for the younger generations that they don't know what a telephone (RJ11) cord is?

https://www.amazon.com/Twang-Lemon-Lime-Salt-1-15-Ounce-Shakers/dp/B001IZHZMW . That's what they look like, I always carry them since I like them by themselves.

Mine was a this model in particular:

J.A. Henckels International CLASSIC 8" Chef's Knife https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00004RFMT/

So it has the one man on it, but I've gotten it sharpened pretty damn well. I was a college student looking for something better than the dull shit the kitchen staff couldn't be arsed to keep consistently sharpened, and they wouldn't hire a company to sharpen them either. At the end of the day, it's served me well and helped me become a faster cook while I worked at that cafeteria and still helps at family gatherings. Didn't know that tidbit about the Henckel knife grades, though, so thanks for the TIL.

My brother has a Breville loose leaf kettle and it's AMAZING. He can either put in the info manually, or in a lot of cases you choose which tea type and it will automatically fill in temperature and steep time. I always loved watching the little basket lower into the water and the colour infuse.

He bought his years ago, but this looks pretty similar: https://www.amazon.ca/Breville-BTM800XL-BREBTM800XL-Tea-Maker/dp/B003LNOPSG

Are you sure she didn't mean Heinz Chili Sauce? That's much more likely for a little old lady. It's what a lot of people use to make cocktail sauce (for shrimp).

You need this.

Knife opens without opening the whole thing and you also have decent scissors!

u/cosmicsans · 46 pointsr/IDontWorkHereLady

The knives are good, but they're not as good as what you're paying for. When you compare a Cutco 9" Chef's Knife to the Wustof 9" Chef's knife, they're priced exactly the same, but the Wusthof is significantly higher quality steel, and doesn't have a microserrated edge to make up for the lower-quality stamped steel.

I say this as someone who has a whole block full of Cutco knives. They're fine enough that I'm not going to get rid of them in place of another set, but if I knew what I know now I would have passed on them and purchased another brand instead.

I'd get some aloe for that burn, preferably with lidocaine. They can sting like hell at first, and being a former food-service worker, I swear by both that and burn patches, depending on the size of the burn.

I just finished an 8-year run at Walmart in the Electronics department. With their latest round of belt-tightening, plus shifting employees from customer service to stocking positions, Electronics is abandoned or grossly understaffed for much of the time.

No one has to ask how to use soup, or which banana is compatible with their kitchen, but there are armies of clueless people with technical questions who will now wander aimlessly, buying stuff that they don't need and that won't work with their existing stuff.

What are they looking for? HDMI to RCA cables. USB cables to get video from PC to TV. A card that makes a PS4 get unlimited internet from the air by magic. A router that doesn't need a modem, or an ISP, to "make internet".

Nice people, but clueless and ripe for fleecing...

I have this one. Only $20, and it has withstood a barrage of abuse over the last three years. Plus it has a belt cutter and a window smasher in case you're in an accident and can't get out of your car.
