Amazon Fire Stick in our bedroom and a normal PC in the living room.

The Fire Stick takes a good bit of tinkering to get exactly as desired, but once you do, it's literally a (tiny) Kodi stick, with the ability to also play games, Youtube and any other Android apps you happen to like.

In the living room, the PC I've got setup, has a graphics card with a HDMI out to my TV. Kodi obviously runs great there too, plus I've got the versatility of Windows.

Yeah, Chromecast stuff has never interested me it's just (slightly) limited in what it can do, because of this most Android stuff frustrates me.

Here's what I'd suggest, if you're not interested in always having the laptop plugged into your TV; grab one of these preconfigured Android TV boxes, they start around $40, and come with a remote control, so once you've got everything setup, it functions like a cable box. They've already got Kodi installed, plus a majority of the latest Add-Ons, so you don't have to spend a bunch of time getting setup.

Here's a couple options, the first being one of the cheaper options, the second a more fully loaded, faster option;

It's just an ordinary aerial, but what you need is a tv tuner card. I'm using something similar to this one but I've heard the ones that connect via PCI-E work better than the USB ones.

EDIT: If you want any more info about setting something like that up let me know.

Yea true again. I'm going to give the NetGear Powerline stuff a try.

Seems like a good way to wire stuff scattered around the house!

If you're looking to simulate the experience of a cable company style guide we recommand the Forumler Z7+ or Formuler Z8. They are on the higher end in terms of price and stability. As well as their app being far suppier to anything else out there.

Msg me for a trial of our service when you get your box, I'd be pleased to help in any way I could!

If you are going the android route I always recommend that people think long term and cough up the money on a Nvidia Shield. That is ultimately the "smart" play. But I get it...some just can't afford it, or more often simply can't get past feeling that they shouldn't have to pay out that much money on a device (which a lot of those people still end up doing latter mind you and after never being completely satisfied with the cheaper devices while knowing something a lot better was still out there. Me being one of them once upon a time).

General rule of thumb though, don't buy anything with under 2gb of ram. You also ideally want your IPTV hard wired, so something that has an ethernet port or a proven to work well with it adapter option (that amazon branded one sucks btw).

I believe Walmart just released the new Xiaomi Mi S box at $59.99. Amazon doesn't have the adapter in stock anymore that I found to be solid (I read the cheaper one works, although I never tested it personally though), but if you could dig it up somewhere else that would be my sub-$100 recommendation: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LLUEJXW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

You can get them refurbished for half that.

And warranties are cheap.

Add a Protection Plan:
4-Year Protection for $2.12
3-Year Protection for $1.62

I got one on an android box, and they just emailed me a gift card when they received the defective box. Best $1.50 I ever spent on a warranty.

If you have the ability to use a wired connection then this item may help. It is a VPN router bridge to the LAN you hook up to have a virtual private network. Your Mag should be able to connect then. I have one for hotels when traveling.

Hmm can't seem to find a model # anywhere. I got it on Amazon but they appear to be out of the particular model I have. They do have one with the same specs but only 128g ssd. Below is what they have now with the smaller ssd.

OP - have you seen a usb otg that works with fire 4k yet?
https://www.amazon.com//dp/B07GDBPBTR
also, most otg's are marketed to work with mice/keyboard
not for flash drives, so you sure that would actually work?
