Omg I love this post so much!!! Thank you for sharing! And I can so relate to huffing perfumes at work or whenever I’m feeling anxious (despite the possibility of looking like a weirdo lol). I just bought this book on aromatherapy, Fragrant Mind: Aromatherapy for Personality, Mind, Mood and Emotion, and I’m so excited to get it. Of course, now I have to frantically add my own list before I get ready for work! :D
My favorites for anxiety, a bad mood, depression, etc:
You bet!
This shop here makes this Filipino dessert from rice flour and coconut milk called bibingka and they're delicious. Fast shipping and generous with samples as well.
Not on Etsy, but I'm a huge fan of this place for GF breads. They're very interesting; you buy basically the mix and all the things you need, including the bag to bake your bread in, in the mix along with instructions. The directions are so exact (like down to the exact number of times to stir the mix lol) that they're pretty much impossible to fuck up. And the fresh baked gluten free bread they have is really, really good. (And soy free and vegan!)
The bread place I linked in my most is also vegan I believe and soy free and is mostly famous for their brownies, which I didn't believe could possibly be any good without milk or butter but I'm thinking of going back and giving them a try.
One of my most reliable GF bread places is this vendor here who makes an utterly fantastic sourdough. See, sourdough is my favourite, along with my dad's favourite, or was before he found out he was NCGS. My GF has coeliac and absolutely swears by this place.
If your stepmom bakes at all, I highly recommend this book, especially the biscuit recipe. (Although use butter and not coconut oil, eww.) It's filled with very easy gluten free recipes that even a complete newbie could do well.
I think I might have stepped out of the indie realm for a second there, sorry about that, but I know the struggle of finding good GF substitutes for your GF loved ones. If I find any other good etsy places, I will let you know.
This year I made an amazon wishlist, and the nice thing about it is you can add items from any website to it (there's a google chrome extension but you can do it from your amazon wishlist, as well.) Some things that I added:
I basically just took a few hours one evening and surfed the web and added things that looked cool, then revised it the next day and removed anything I didn't actually want. A lot of it is stuff I probably wouldn't buy for myself but I'd enjoy having. I tried to add a variety of stuff in the price range department and I thought listing out gift cards to specific places for clothes/etsy stuff was a better idea than them picking it out because that's usually hard.
For etsy itself, I have a few different lists - things I'm going to buy, things I'll probably buy, and things that are maybes. If certain people (my mom, my sister) wanted to see it and pick something out from it I'd let them and that's part of the reason I've organized it that way (and so I know what I like from which stores without having to search through the whole store)
There are variations of it, but it's all generally based on this book. Different people do different things depending on their hair but the most common themes are those with natural curls cutting out shampoo with sulfates and silicones in hair products in order to maintain the natural oils and maximize moisture in their hair as well as just not washing your hair every day to not strip out the oils as well. Since curls are naturally dry (in most cases), and shampoos strip out moisture while most silicones prevent hair from being properly hydrated over time due to build-up, the CG method eliminates those so curls can always be hydrated and properly nourished. For most people this means an improvement in the appearance of their curls.
For me, I wash with conditioner only, use 0 silicones aside from the 2-3 times a year when I straighten my hair and never ever use shampoo unless I'm removing said silicones those few times a year. It keeps my curls from being super frizzy and has drastically improved the appearance of my curls as a whole.
How about reading a nonfiction book about fictional worlds? lol. If you feel up to it Literary Wonderlands: A Journey Through the Greatest Fictional Worlds Ever Created is surprisingly thorough in its research, despite seeming like it might just give a superficial overview of different fictional universes.
One that isn't out yet, but I'm desperately waiting to read, is Letters from Tove which is a collection of letters written by Tove Jansson, author and artist of Moomins fame.
Just suggestions though! If neither of those interest you I hope you find another good book to cozy up with :)
Oh yes, it was amazing, I must say. I get all my recipes from Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams cookbook, and the bases lend themselves really easily to adaptation. She even has a recipe for sweet potato with torched marshmallow ice cream!
I am a giant nerd.
I'm a big book nerd. I just recently discovered bookdepository.com ships for free worldwide, and got an amazingly beautiful edition of My True Love Gave To Me which is a collection of 12 winter-themed love stories. I've literally purchased this book 3 times (once was a gift, but still). And a coloring book because I like to color. Oh, and I'm reading Vivian Apple at the End of the World for ReblogBookClub. I really like it so far!
I'm watching Transparent right now, which I have to confess I'm downloading because I don't have Amazon Prime. It is amazing. I adored Doctor Who until halfway through Series 7. I miss Ten and Eleven SO MUCH. I don't really care what happens to Twelve or Clara because I don't really feel a connection to them at all. The head writer does this shit where he tells you what you should feel. "This character is important, but just for this one episode that we literally mash hundreds of years into. Look, the Doctor is sad cuz he died!" drives me nuts, I wish they would fire him and his giant ego.
I'm obsessed with the Nexus 9 my boyfriend gave me for Christmas. I'm constantly using it. He gave me a Nexus 7 for my birthday 2 years ago that I used like crazy, but this one is much faster and the screen is huuuuge!
And I'm still desperate to get engaged/married. My boyfriend and I have been together just over 7 years. We are waiting to hear on a job he tested for in Detroit and I think he's waiting until he finds out to get the ring (because the new job would pay him twice as much as he makes now). I swear when I get engaged I'm doing an indie polish review post. Get ready, because when you think "psh she's just showing off that rock" YOU'LL BE RIGHT. I have no shame.
OMG SHAMELESS CAME BACK ON SHOWTIME! So exciting.
Welcome! I too enjoy reading about the mystique and history of perfumery, I know of 3 titles that may interest you:
https://www.amazon.com/Essence-Alchemy-Natural-History-Perfume/dp/1586857029/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=history+of+perfumes&qid=1554130685&s=books&sr=1-1
https://www.amazon.com/Fragrant-Secret-Scent-Mandy-Aftel/dp/1594631417/ref=sr_1_8?keywords=history+of+perfumes&qid=1554130685&s=books&sr=1-8

Alkemia was also my first exploration into the indie fragrance world, which samples did you pick up? (Oh and there is nothing wrong with fishing for extra compliments;) )
Hyperion and WoT yes yes yes; the other two, I haven't tried. The last book I read was Vermillion, which was good enough, but not something I will remember for long. I picked it up because a half-Chinese lady protagonist in fantasy lit is basically a unicorn (though unicorns are way easier to find in fiction) and I had to give it a shot.
I have these cute little 2 ml roller balls that I decant samples that I really like into (it's great for the Sixteen92 2 ml samples or duplicate 1 ml samples). I keep my other samples in ammo boxes. Here's an example (not mine). I have these ones.
I'm kind of a sample hoarder, lol. I only swap/sell samples if dislike the scent or feel meh about it, have duplicates or if I buy a full size. I've had hit or miss blind buying full sizes (and have then had difficulty reselling them), so I'm not keen on buying FS "blindly" unless they're limited edition and I think I'll like them (for example I just blind bought full sizes of DC's recent releases, but I have faith that I'll either like them or be able to destash them fairly easily).
Have you read John Barry's book about the 1918 influenza? I love it so much. I love reading about diseases! I know too much about the bubonic plague for my own good.
you can still buy bottles of Exclamation online!! :)

i know that i saw them at Walmart this year. Look in the boxed perfume section :)
Well this week has been pretty crazy for starters! I came back to work after 12 days off and had to turn in my two weeks because I was offered a job at a new employer! So this week has been just getting paperwork done for the new employer and training in the new girl for my position.
This morning my bf's cousin posted on FB that she published her first book so I grabbed a copy of that from Amazon and I'm super excited to read it.
Then I had a stupid long meeting this morning and I decided that I deserved to order $20 in Vietnamese food from GrubHub this morning :P
Yay congrats! You did awesome! As someone who suffered from severe anxiety for a long time I can understand how you are feeling. I have a book that has really helped me in the past called the anxiety and phobia workbook. Here's a link to it on amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Anxiety-Phobia-Workbook-Edmund-Bourne/dp/1626252157/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1467669588&sr=8-1&keywords=the+anxiety+and+phobia+workbook
I highly recommend this book to people with anxiety issues. A therapist suggested I buy this book because I was having a hard time even getting to appointments sometimes and it has been so helpful.
I love it, but I am kind of biased. My hubby lived in New Orleans for 5 years. He brought this deck back with him. It gives almost 100% accurate readings. It has this knack for reading people and their spirits in a really cool, but spooky way.
Theres some info about it here: [whodo that voodoo] (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0892813636/facade09/)
Favourite books I read quite a bit so my favourites change often, but I really like The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafón, Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë, The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley, and The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett. I also really like somewhat unusual children's books like, The Trouble with Gran, MacMurtrey's Wall, and The Pobble who has no toes.
Favourite films The Princess Bride, About Time, The Neverending Story, and Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (yes, the terrible one with Kevin Costner and his American accent!) and I wouldn't call it a favourite, but for some reason whenever Practical Magic is on tv I have to watch it. It's like a weird compulsion.
Favourite bands/singers My musical taste varies widely, so I will try to cover a few genres, Led Zeppelin (always and forever), Stan Rogers, Blood for Blood, Hozier, Richie Havens, Flogging Molly, Dead Can Dance, Sheer Terror, and The Pogues. I'll stop there!
Weird facts about me I have a mild form of Synesthesia, I'm afraid of spiders, and I HATE onions, I don't even like to look at them!
