Thanks! I'll check on the bulb. Something like a 6200K 23 watt I think. Daylight with blue end mostly. CFL to keep heat at 80 deg works perfect at 10 inches away. About 10 bucks on amazon plus another 10 for the reflector is best I could find. Will get a 2800k for the peppers and tomatoes to induce flowering after I get them on the hydro for a month or two. The lettuce stays on blueish since it's all veg growth you want.

I grew some herbs on the deck this summer and really enjoyed it. Now that it’s getting colder I’d like to continue growing them inside. The trouble is that we don’t have a single sunny spot in our house. After doing some research, I purchased the shelving unit and grow lights shown in the picture. The first two images are the plant about a month ago right when I brought them inside. The last is my poor basil now, wasting away to nothing.

The lights are LED (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07C24ND5C/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and I keep them at 100% for roughly 16 hours a day, but all of my plants are dying. Any suggestions to how I can save them? This is my first time growing anything indoor or using a plant light so I’d appreciate the help. Thanks in advance!

So the one you see on the top is this one:

Winjoy Grow Light, 30W LED Grow... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07JLJFWNY?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

But my plants don’t love it, they kind of put up with it. They seem to do better with this light but they only come with two heads and the cart needs three for good coverage.

Grow Light, Ankace [2018 Upgraded... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07H57K565?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

The succs stress better with this second light than they do with the first one too! The third row I have this lamp for my light hogs.

50W LED Grow Light,Growstar... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07LF21378?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

I only keep one side on at a time because I’m afraid to melt my plants but I just got this one and am a novice user!

Hope this helps you decide on one! I know how tedious it is to pick some lamps out, especially online.

u/heydoughnuts · 2 pointsr/IndoorGarden

Sure, here ya go! It’s pretty affordable and has held up all the plants wonderfully!

Not sure if this will help but I'll chime in with my experience. I went to home depot and purchased regular old LED bulbs (5500k) daylight. I also got one of these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B014ZZLP8G/ref=sr_ph?ie=UTF8&qid=1465930547&sr=1&keywords=taotronics+led. I hung em using standard clip aluminum hoods. I grew everything from seed using this set up (3 of the LED daylight bulbs) and that LED growlight. Basil, Parsley, Coriander, Nasturtium flowers, Tomatoes, Cucumbers and peppers. Now, I'll say, that the lights were perfectly fine to grow everything, but once the plants were big enough, I would transplant outside or place in my sun room with sound facing window.

I got this one which works pretty well! ThermoPro TP50 Digital Indoor Room Thermometer Hygrometer Monitor Temperature and Humidity Meter for Home Office Nursery Comfort, Min/Max Records https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01H1R0K68/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_eRYmDb0S18K0B
Also, have you considered filtering the water before you put it in the humidifier/water the plants? Calatheas etc don’t like hard water.

u/orcinovein · 6 pointsr/IndoorGarden

Easy answer: Purchase a daylight 42 watt CFL bulb for bigger/more plants or a 23 watt CFL if you're growing smaller/less plants. The standard bulb you have wastes a lot of energy (money) on creating heat.

Complex answer: If you are trying to grow plants that flower, you need both red and blue light. Red for the flowers to grow and blue for the vegetation/leaves. You'll want to purchase an LED grow light bulb that emits both forms of light. These are the most energy efficient bulbs converting nearly everything into useable light for the plant. The only downside is they emit an ugly purple color and it can be unsightly in the home when it's on.

if you just want a simple cheap system to get started with this is quite good. http://www.amazon.com/Hydrofarm-JSV2-2-Foot-Start-System/dp/B0006856EQ - you really do not want or need HiD lamps unless you are growing MJ. CFL/T5 are perfect for most veggies and herbs, (much) less heat, less electricity, cheaper bulb replacement, etc.

You have a lot of VERY tolerant plants. All of the snake plants, the rubber plant, prayer plant, and ZZ are fine where they are. Like the other commenter said, put the fig right at the window.

Don't get a lamp until some of the plants start proving that they need it. If you do need one, go with this bulb in a basic clamp light setup. This can be kind of an eyesore though.

u/micjkitsmike · 69 pointsr/IndoorGarden

Saved this from the last time they posted the unit and linked the shelf.

I use something like this and my plants love it! Neptune's Harvest

Warning: its REALLY stinky...

I installed a shelf i got off amazon as you see in the picture

Shelf:
AmazonBasics 4-Shelf Shelving... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0727YYPR2?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Light:

FECiDA 2-Pack COB LED Plant Grow... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07TL9VFD4?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Pulleys:
VIPARSPECTRA 2 Pair of 1/8 inch... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B010PYWCX8?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

I have 2 lights but it looks like i only need to use 1 right?

Also should i leave the plants in their bins?

Any recommendations for an large enclosed greenhouse cover i can use instead of inidividual bins?

Is the light too close to the plants?

u/ziggy222 · 1 pointr/IndoorGarden

I found mine on Amazon. So happy with it!

u/schwat · 2 pointsr/IndoorGarden

Oh yeah I forgot to mention one thing, you might want to grab a set of these so you can raise & lower them https://www.amazon.com/VIPARSPECTRA-Adjustable-Fixtures-Gardening-Capacity/dp/B010PYWCX8

The lights come with wire hanger + a carabiner but it's a fixed length. You could also just use a cheap chain and manually raise/lower lights by moving the carabiner but those pulley ones are really nice.

I had it recently as well... screw Home Depot's gardening section.

  1. Gnat sticks... sticky yellow traps, stick in your plants to catch some adults.. less adults = less babies. Cheap quick way to knock them down a peg: https://www.amazon.com/Springstar-S5333-BioCare-Gnat-Stix/dp/B000NCUTS8

  2. Minimal watering . Let the soil dry out between waterings. They need moist soil to grow.

  3. Consider replacing the top inche or two of top soil once the strips have been out for a few days. Will get rid of lots of eggs and disrupt their lifecycle. Give you a chance to get things under control.

I ended up doing #3 a second time but with this stuff in the replacement mix:
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000MRD5JO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Not cheap, but didn't want chemicals... it worked very well.
u/rhymes_with_pail · 11 pointsr/IndoorGarden

Would a fixture like this solve the directional issues of a bulb style light? Just downloaded a light meter, what lux measurement is the goal at the leaves?

u/withfriesplease · 6 pointsr/IndoorGarden

I found that taking care of plants helped me fight those feelings worthlessness that my depression brought about. Glad to hear you're doing thing to take care of yourself post-breakup! Here are the lights I use; they have a timer setting and various intensities: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07C24ND5C/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00__o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Hm, if I'm watering too much as is do you recommend I wait and let the soil dry out before watering with a "citrus fertilizer"? Or should I get the fertlizer and water it right away to balance out the All Purpose Plant food?

u/PuddlePirate1964 · 5 pointsr/IndoorGarden

Not OP: You'll need

One shelf board, I'd recommend hardwood vs. MDF board as MDF board will blister when water sets on it.

A lot of people get those closet organizers that have a rod and sometimes shelving, something like this. You can hang a bunch of plants from the rod.

I'm using an LED lamp array with a florescent tube. The space I have is small also, but I made it work.

There grow lights I purchased on Amazon. I have a timer set up to give them more light during the winter months.

u/mommystorms · 1 pointr/IndoorGarden

Oh and you can also order not only through the Hirts website but they (and other sellers) sell through Amazon too. Here's a link to where I ordered my monstera from: https://www.amazon.com/Split-Leaf-Philodendron-Pot-Pineapple/dp/B00MUY4TCE

u/Arctic172nd · 3 pointsr/IndoorGarden

I'm using this lamp cord with this grow light and these smart outlets for my monstera. Granted its a new addition so I dont have time to say if it works but I dont see why it wont. I have it around 2-3 feet above its upper most leaves and fashioned a shade out of black paper my wife had (its VERY bright). The outlets let me set a timer or turn it on and off remotely for whatever reason.

I did not have studs by the window so i used anchors, which came with the metal pipes (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071X6KLK9/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_zu1KDb13EZBSG).

The insecticides (this one) and mild sprays that others are suggesting sometimes work. However, there are some other approaches, if they don't work for you:

  • Fungus gnats dry out and die easily. If the plants are very hardy to a period of minimal watering, refraining from adding water until the soil is dry can kill most of them. This is a reliable method that always works, but it's not practical for all plants. It sounds like some of yours probably could, though, but I'm no expert.
  • The bacteria species Bacillus thuringienis produces a substance that kills the larvae of fungus gnats. You can buy it on amazon and add it to the soil. It does not affect the adults, but they are short lived, so if you consistently kill the larvae you will eliminate the infestation relatively quickly. This is the single most reliable treatment, when done right. It combines well with the other treatments, both the ones I list and the ones others have mentioned, too. (Note: Don't let the bottle get too hot. Since they're bacteria, you can kill them, and then the product doesn't work.)
  • Sticky yellow traps will kill a lot of the adults. This won't fix a big infestation, but it can control mild ones or act preventatively. It works great in combination with the bacteria treatment, turning it into a two-pronged attack on the larvae+adults. I find it works best to place them such that they touch the rim of the pot, where the gnats seem to like to walk, but you have to play with the positioning.
