This was one of the first Bond films I ever saw {introduced to the franchise via [this boxed set] (https://www.amazon.com/James-Bond-Collection-Vol-Special/dp/B00006BH8G/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1469022358&sr=8-4&keywords=James+Bond+special+edition+dvds)}, so that probably counts for a lot, as this is my second favorite film of the franchise, second only to Casino Royale.
+Timothy Dalton is at his best here. He's angry, he's out for revenge, and he is the Bond of the novels.
+Robert Davi as Franz Sanchez is great. He's charming, funny, but also a terrifying villain. For a drug-dealing villain, he's actually likeable.
+I don't hear or see many people giving Pam Lowell any love. She's one of my favorite Bond Girls. She's tough, badass, doesn't need saving like so many of them do, and is really helpful to Bond. (I generally am not a fan of 'useless' Bond Girls who are only there to look pretty)
+I am a sucker for revenge tales. The more gruesome and painful for the baddies, the better.
+Benicio Del Toro as Dario...ooh, this guy is creepy, scary, and out of his mind. Great performance.
That being said, I am not letting nostalgia cloud my ability to see that this film isn't perfect. I don't like Talisa Soto's Lupe in this film, as I find her quite wooden. Wayne
Campbell'sNewton's character feels totally out of place here. Finally, I don't like the high school drama between Lupe and Pam; could totally have done without that. But these are minor gripes and don't take away from the overall awesomeness of this film. For its dark, serious tone, great characters (Bond, Sanchez, Dario, Pam, Q going out in the field), great action (Awesome pre-credits teaser, the underwater fight, and the tanker chase in particular), and great score, it's no surprise that this is my second favorite Bond film, and is one of only 3 films I feel comfortable giving a 10/10.
They're called VARGR. Strange title I know haha. I have yet to read them but ONLY because the first volume is coming out next week with the first 6 issues. If you can wait a little longer, you can get all of them for a little cheaper than if you got them all separate! And in a nice book.
Edit: Amazon says it comes it July 5th, but any good comic book store would have it when it comes out on June 15th

A cool gift that won't break the bank: the Union Jack bulldog from Skyfall is $70.
If you want to get something that's not just a curio, you can search eBay for single volumes of Easton's leather-bound reprints of Ian Fleming's books. Right now The Man With the Golden Gun is going on eBay for $100. I've seen the whole set go for $4k+, but individual books are not super-expensive.
I didn't see any, but the Tom Ford sunglasses from Casino Royale can also be found on eBay occasionally for about $100. The Skyfall version usually go for $300+.
Authentic (non-repro) movie posters for the more recent films can also be had for around $100 in good, unfolded condition.
Coffee table books like James Bond: 50 Years of Movie Posters and others can be had on Amazon for around $30, or so, new.
Or you could go the more consumable route: Bollinger ($50-$65) or The Macallan (the 12 is about $50 or so) and a Bluray. The La Grande Annee 1990, if you can find it, would be more authentic but probably a little pricey (last I saw a few months ago it was $200) and, if a tailored suit and a Rolex are out of the question, then The Macallan 1928 is as well (about $40k, give or take...if you can find it).
> Oh boy..
Haha why, is the authenticity of those two constantly in debate?
Anyway, thank you I made sure to get one with Spectre and this one should be ok!
The short version is that Thunderball was originally developed as a screenplay with producer Kevin McClory in the late '50s, and when it didn't come together as a film, Ian Fleming thought he was free to develop it as a novel and sell it separately. McClory disagreed and sued Fleming, and won the rights to Thunderball (when EON decided to make it as a film, they had to partner with McClory to get it made).
After that, McClory spent the rest of his life trying to bootstrap the Thunderball rights into a claim to the underlying film rights to James Bond, which he was never able to do.
The book [The Battle for Bond] (https://www.amazon.com/Battle-Bond-Robert-Sellers/dp/0955767008/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1503192255&sr=1-1&keywords=the+battle+for+bond) lays out the case in great detail.
the ultimate book that every james bond fan needs is the james bond archives by taschen. it's gigantic and the most beautiful coffee table book one can get! highly recommended!
Here's Casino Royale in the copy that's my favorite. The rest are in a similar style. Just great all around.

My son gave me "Bond by Design" and "James Bond: 50 years of Movie Posters." Both are excellent books.
> But the version of the film itself--is it the complete version that contains all the scenes deleted from the theatrical cut?
Unfortunately there hasn't been a full uncut release in the US.
The release of "The James Bond Collection" Blu-ray set from the UK includes all 24 movies and appears to have the uncut (UK rated "15") version of 'Casino Royale' (the disc is shown very briefly HERE in an unboxing video of the version released before the set included 'Spectre'), but it doesn't have the bonus disc that's in the "Ultimate Collection" release.
I think that's going to be your best option to get a full collection set with the uncut version of 'Casino Royale', but I can't guarantee it.
If you think that's exciting, grab a copy of the james bond archives:

This is a collection of comics made in the Daily Express, based off Fleming's books. I highly suggest the Omnibus series, I have 1-5 and hoping to get 6.
Dude buy the blofeld trilogy. Its Thunderball, OHMSS, and You Only Live Twice all in one paperback
Plus it looks badass on a coffee table. amazon
because I wasn't thinking straight, and I should've just posted the Amazon link.
Here's the Amazon link
Not with this particular jacket style. On Amazon you get covers with just white, black and red color published by Thomas & Mercer. I really prefer the Penguin publisher series from 2002.
As a side note, all the books were serialized as comic strips in the 50s and 60s. You can get them now as books.

Never mind, costs $124.86
Not the 100th like you want but Amazon has a more recent binding of the books in paperback
Here are a few that might be what you're after, Anderson & Low: On the Set of James Bond's Spectre, The Man with the Golden Eye: Designing the James Bond Films and Bond by Design: The Art of the James Bond Films.
