Headset or buds? The i edition of the RHA MA750s I linked above should be pretty great if head-fi is to be believed. You should definitely check out the table too if you're looking for IEMs.


EDIT: Some table usage tips: narrow by budget first, then look for a high average rating. If you don't know what criteria you're looking for, leave them blank and try to find a good balance. I personally don't care much about accessories or microphonics, so I look for high average values despite those things since that means everything else must be super high to compensate. In your case, microphonics might be more impactful so you could keep that high.

For software, Audacity is definitely the way to go if you're looking for the cheapest route. It can be a bit clunky at times, but it can get the job done.

For hardware (eg. microphones), you might have to spend quite a bit for solid and clean audio quality. There's a lot of technical background on microphones (and audio recording in general) you should keep in mind before choosing an appropriate one. For example, a pop filter might also be another thing to look into. It's fairly cheap, and you could potentially just craft your own by watching different Youtube tutorials.
